Itsukishima Residence

10:00 A.M

In the confines of the Itsukishima estate is a room filled with books. Most people would think it's a small library, but in the far corner of the room is a bed, its occupant is still sleeping peacefully even though the sun is already shining brightly.

The bright sunlight can be seen peeking through the curtains of the window and the chirping of birds resting on the window sill can be heard. In response to that, the red haired girl continued sleeping peacefully, unbothered by all the noise.

A polite knock came from the entrance of the room. "Sahori-sama, are you awake?" The woman waited for a bit, seeing that no reply would come, she opened the door and sighed as she saw the piles of books on the ground that her charge left around her room.

Walking around the mess that her charge created, she was unsurprised to see her still sleeping.

"Sahori-sama." The girl burrowed her face on her pillows in reply.

"You leave me no choice, then." The maid opened the curtains and windows in the room to let the sunlight in. The effect was immediate, the sunlight hit Sahori, waking her up in the process.

Sahori blinked blearily as she glared weakly at the maid who was cleaning up her room. "You could've just shook me away, Misaki."

"That would be futile, Sahori-sama, the only thing that would wake you up when you're in such a state is the sun." Misaki put the last of the books in the bookshelf where it rightfully belongs. "And I've told you numerous times before that you must return your books to the bookshelves. If you do not take care of your books then, it will be damaged or worse."

Sahori pouted and looked away. "I know that, I was just too tired from reading all night."

"Yes, speaking of which, please don't stay up too late. Lack of sleep will hamper your growth, both in body and mind." Misaki's eyes softened as she saw Sahori nodded to her in acquiescence.

"I will, Misaki. Now, can you please leave. I have to get ready for the day." Sahori stood up and headed for the bathroom.

"Of course, Sahori-sama. I've already put your clothes in your wardrobe and when you're done, please come downstairs so you can eat breakfast." Sahori thanked her for her thoughtfulness and shut the door of the bathroom. Misaki thanked the gods that for someone who was born rich like Sahori, she's naturally polite to anyone, regardless of your standing.

Seeing as Sahori is getting ready, Misaki left the room and went downstairs to cook her little master's breakfast.

After half an hour had passed, she could hear footsteps going down. Misaki hummed as she finished her preparations for the breakfast. Pork curry for her young master and an extra portion for herself.

She heard the table chair being dragged and hurried her steps to serve Sahori's meal.

Misaki saw her master sitting and drinking tea elegantly. She was wearing the red sundress that she always favors and her long red hair has been meticulously combed. A stark contrast to her earlier disheveled appearance.

"Breakfast, Sahori-sama." Misaki placed the plate of curry in front of her master.

"Thank you, Misaki." Sahori put down her cup of tea into her saucer adjacent to it is the tea set, something that Misaki thinks is much more expensive than her monthly income.

Misaki stood nearby the table, waiting for any commands from Sahori. She watched as her young master ate and she couldn't help in becoming a tiny bit jealous as Sahori showed impeccable grace as she ate. Misaki thought to herself that this must be the difference between lowborns and high class people.

'Although, she does look quite lonely, eating alone like that.' Misaki thought as she continued observing her master.

Sahori looked at her maid, swallowing her food before speaking. "Have you eaten breakfast, Misaki?"

The sudden question threw Misaki for a loop, but she recovered fairly quickly, she was a competent maid for god's sake. "I have not, Sahori-sama." Misaki answered courteously.

"Hmm…then, perhaps you should join me." Sahori smiled and pointed at the seat across from her.

"It is not right for a maid to be eating with their master, Sahori-sama." Misaki's body became stiff as she refused and Sahori raised her eyebrow in amusement.

"Eating by my lonesome makes the food quite tasteless, I would appreciate it if you would eat with me. Please." Sahori looked her straight in the eye and Misaki faltered as her master's piercing red eyes bore a hole through her soul.

"I understand." Sahori smiled pleasantly at her acceptance.

Misaki got her breakfast and sat across from her young master. They ate in silence, but Sahori had a look of contentment in her eyes as she continued eating. Misaki thought that it was the right decision to accept her master's offer if she could see her like this. Still, it wouldn't hurt to break the silence and talk to her, right?

"May I ask you a question, Sahori-sama?" Misaki asked. Sahori gestured for her to go on. "Why have you been staying up so late in the past months? Usually, you'd be sleeping early after playing games with your friend."

"Oh, I was just studying. I want to beat Jasper's grades for a change." Sahori said with an embarrassed look on her face.

Misaki looked at Sahori with surprise written on her face "Jasper? You mean Ja-chan? I didn't know he was that smart." Misaki knew that Sahori was quite the brilliant child, especially when her parents constantly tout their daughter's achievements.

Sahori nodded "He is. I see him as my rival when it comes to academics, so I started studying more to surpass him." She pumped her fists, determined to fulfill that promise.

Misaki let out a soft smile as she saw her young master's competitive side coming out. "A laudable goal, but you shouldn't sacrifice your health to achieve such a goal, Sahori-sama."

A flash of hesitation appeared briefly on Sahori's features, but she nodded in acceptance to Misaki's advice. "Very well, I will endeavor in heeding your advice, Misaki."

"Thank you, Sahori-sama. I only want you to succeed in any of your aspirations without you abandoning your health." Misaki gained an impish smile "Besides, if you become sickly your lovely skin and charming beauty will be lost. I'm sure that Ja-chan will be sad if you become like that."

Sahori blushed a fine red. "Misaki!"

Misaki giggled as she teased her adorable young master. She looked at the clock and was surprised when she saw what time it was. She stood up and collected both of their empty plates. "I must return to my duties. Thank you for inviting me to eat with you, Sahori-sama."

"You're welcome, I did enjoy our chat, Misaki. I hope we can do this again." Misaki smiled and bowed to her. She turned on her heels and walked towards the kitchen.

Making sure that Misaki is truly out of earshot, Sahori took out her phone and called her dear friend. She sipped her tea while waiting and not even a few seconds passed until someone answered the call. "Good morning, Sahori." The sound of her friend's voice made her smile.

Sahori put down her cup of tea on her saucer and picked up her cellphone. "Good morning to you as well, Jasper. Any unusual news about our fine city?"

Sounds of papers being shuffled around can be heard "Nothing yet, just the normal stuff. Politics, the economy, you know, the usual."

"I see." Sahori hummed "Have you been reading the book that I lent you?"

"I have," A sigh can be heard coming from the other end. "But I'm having trouble doing the spells, it is quite annoying."

Sahori felt amused when she heard that her perfect friend is having a hard time doing something. "Do you need my help?" The words slipped out of her tongue before she could stop herself.

Sahori heard a grunt and she had to suppress her laughter "Thank you for the offer, Sahori, but I do not need your assistance in dealing with this." And there was the pride of her beloved friend making itself known.

Now to push the knife deeper "Well, if you ever need my help, know that my door is always open to you. The gods know that I've already mastered it a month ago. I wonder what that says about you?" Sahori smiled teasingly, knowing that Jasper is thoroughly annoyed right now.

He ended the call abruptly.

Sahori laughed as she set down her cellphone. She really loves that she can tease her friend like that and he will just let it slide, for he knows that she didn't mean any of what .

Hearing laughter, Misaki walked towards her and looked at her questioningly, somewhat bewildered that her normally composed young master was laughing loudly. "Did something happen, Sahori-sama?"

Sahori wiped her tears from laughing so hard and calmed herself to answer Misaki "It's just," A giggle escaped her lips "It's just Jasper. I was just talking to him and he said something funny."

Misaki slowly nodded "I see, speaking of him, it's rare for him to not be visiting you. Normally you two would be playing outside." That or they would be playing video games in Sahori's room.

Sahori finished her tea and stood up "Yes, well, he has something important to do today." She looks outside, towards the city, and whispers "I just hope that he'll be careful."

Minato Ward, Tokyo

5:00 P.M

Jasper walked the cold streets of Tokyo in silence, his mind drifting to the events of the past months.

The first day after that fateful encounter, he immediately went to Sahori to learn how to use magic. It turns out that magic is really, really hard to do. Not for Sahori though, she quickly learned how to use the magic spells that the mysterious voice taught her. Unfortunately for him, he didn't have a natural talent for the esoteric arts, but he is trying. Thankfully, all that hard work is slowly paying off.

He still wasn't as good as Sahori, but at least he won't be defenceless if or when he fights a demon.

Speaking of demons, he was surprised to see a few demons in Tokyo. Namely in cemeteries, abandoned buildings, and other places that are less traveled. He thought that those demons were doing harm to humans, but as he followed them around, he realized that they were just going about their day. Most hide from humans, but others are more bold or oblivious, he doesn't know which is which. Seeing that there were different kinds of demons with different temperaments he figured that maybe he could go talk to them and, ultimately, learn about them.

Stopping in front of a derelict three-story building, he looked around to see if there were any people in the vicinity, finding none he quickly went in. The inside of the building is obviously in a state of ruin.

This building was supposed to be a mansion for a wealthy family, but during the course of its construction, many incidents plagued the workers.

At first it was miniscule, some missing materials there, people being tripped up, and machinery malfunctioning or even outright broken. Then, it all went downhill when they chopped down a large tree near the site. People were being injured and sent to the hospital, machines exploded when they were used, and metal beams were thrown towards the car of the foreman.

Because of all those incidents, the client was notified that construction would cease and then they packed up and left. In the wake of all those incidents, no construction firm ever dared to accept the job and the client also lost interest and walked away.

After that, odd events started happening. When people walk near the vicinity of the building they are pelted by various objects by some unseen force. When the police came because of all the reports of disturbance and assault. They just saw an abandoned building and couldn't find anyone to arrest. Due to those incidents, he suspects that there is a demon here.

Jasper carefully walked around the building while holding his flashlight. His senses tell him that something unnatural is in this building with him and it's watching him.

He slowly climbed the stairs towards the second floor and he shined his flashlight on a room on his right. A flash of blue zoomed out of his view as soon as he looked at it.

'That's definitely not normal.' Jasper thought as his body tensed.

He entered the room and sweeped the large area with his flashlight and was surprised that the room was full of construction materials. Cement bags piled up in the corner, bricks stacked against each other and a plethora of items.

'Looks like the stories were true, they did leave in a hurry. Didn't even bother to pick up their belongings, must have been scared witless.' He thought as he felt a presence circling him.

Jasper heard something to his left and pointed his flashlight to it. His eyes widened as he saw metal bars being lifted off the ground and blasted off towards his position.

He dodged the projectiles by a hair's breadth and heard them impact the ground. 'That would have seriously injured anyone.' Darkness enveloped him as his flashlight was destroyed and he could feel the demon hurtling towards him, it was now or never.

The boy closed his eyes and concentrated. "Just like how I practiced." He pulled on his Mana and molded it to his will.

[Sukukaja]

In an instant Jasper's eyesight became sharper and his movements faster. He dodged the demon's attack with ease, almost tripping when he landed due to him not being used to that kind of speed.

He held his rosary and pointed his right hand towards the demon's general direction.

[Hama]

A bright white light erupted inside the building, staggering the demon in the process. The light stayed for a few seconds and it enabled him to see the demon clearly. It was a levitating blue demon, in its hands a hammer and a wrench. It has a small mouth, a small spike on its head and pure black eyes. More importantly, it seems that it has to make a conscious effort in making itself afloat, signifying that he has at least injured it.

The light dissipated, but darkness did not return as the demon charged up its attack. A blue light coalesced near its mouth and Jasper realized that it was electricity.

[Zio]

Electricity arced towards him blindingly fast, but, fortunately, he dodged the attack using his enhanced speed.

'That was close. If I didn't cast Sukukaja earlier I would have been electrocuted.' Jasper thought as he warily stared at the demon. He touched the floor and left holy energy on it to act as a light source.

He could see the demon slinking back away from him towards the darker part of the room. It might seem to be running away but he can still feel its hostility towards him. 'Maybe it's time I talk to it.'

"Excuse me!" The demon stopped "I'm not here to hurt you. I'm only here to talk." He looked at the darkness and waited for a reply.

"To talk?! You think I'm dumb, human!?" A small angry voice echoed around the building. "After what you did to my friend, I'll never forgive you!"

"What are you even talking about? I haven't even been here before today." Jasper was baffled by the words coming out of the demon.

The demon scowled at him "I don't care! It's enough that you're human so I'll get my revenge."

"Revenge? What did humans do to your friend?" The question made the demon stare at him. It was looking for something, for what, he did not know.

"The humans cut down my friend's home and because of that my friend died. We were just living peacefully here, but you humans ruined all of it!" The blue demon shook the hammer and wrench in its hands angrily.

"Cut down?" He remembered the news article that he read yesterday "You mean the big tree that used to be here?" From what he recalled, that tree was quite old, dating all the way back from the Meiji Era. "So you hurt all those humans because they took someone from you."

"That's right! When the land was cleared for this big building, we were content with just watching and playing pranks on them, but that all changed when they cut down the tree. Kodama withered away and died because of that!" It shouted, anger palpable in its inhuman voice.

"I see." Jasper could understand why the demon was so angry at humans.

"I'm sorry for your loss, but I can't condone your attacks against humans. You must understand that ordinary humans can't even see you, thus they would have no knowledge of you or your friend." He sympathizes with the demon, but he can't accept that it will attack any human regardless if they did something to it.

"I know that, but I still can't forgive them after what they've done!" The demon swung his little hammer around in anger.

Jasper looks at the demon and understands that the demon's anger is clouding its judgment.

"In that case," The aura around him shifted and the demon immediately took notice "We will fight. State your name so I may know who I am fighting against."

The demon narrowed its eyes and held its hammer and wrench tight, now knowing that the human child is truly dangerous "The name is Gremlin of the Jaki race."

"Very well then, Gremlin, my name is Nitta Jasper and in the name of all that is right and holy I will put a stop to your attacks against humans." Mana flared in his body and he ran towards the demon.

[Hama]

Gremlin darted away from the burst of light and retaliated.

[Bufu]

The air became cold and Jasper's eyes widened as several shards of ice were sent careening towards his way, he dodged away from it, but one of the shards grazed his cheek, causing it to bleed slightly.

Undeterred, he slammed his hands on the ground.

[Hama]

A pillar of light erupted directly below the demon. An inhuman scream of pain echoed in the building and he saw Gremlin unsteadily, but quickly, flying away from him. It flew to another room and he hurriedly pursued.

As he went inside, he saw a blue light on the far side and immediately dove to the ground. His hair stood on end as a [Zio] passed above him. He immediately stood up and looked at Gremlin on the far side.

Moonlight shines through the open spaces of the building and because of that he could clearly see it was heavily injured by his earlier attack, but it was still stubbornly putting up a fight.

The boy let out an exasperated breath and a gust of wind blew through the building.

Jasper suddenly broke out in a sprint straight towards the demon. The demon, in response, summoned two magic circles in the air.

[Mabufu]

Jasper's eyes widen as a hail of ice is sent hurtling towards his direction. Seeing that he can't dodge this he braced his body.

[Rakukaja]

The ice impacted the ground and mist hindered the vision of anyone trying to look. Frost grew around the area of the impact and silence followed.

Gremlin sighed in relief as it finally killed the crazy human. "That human was tough, I thought I was going to die here."

[Zan]

Gremlin screamed in pain as it felt force energy blowing it away. The demon was blown away into a solid brick wall. Footsteps can be heard in front of it and it struggled to lift its head to see who attacked it. It was surprised to see that the human was still alive.

"How are you still alive?" Gremlin whispered

The human was wounded in several parts of his body and there was frost caking parts of his body. There was also a noticeable limp in his steps.

"I had to fortify my body to take a hit like that." Force energy gathered in his palm and he pointed it at the demon "It was a tough battle, Gremlin. Any last words?"

Gremlin looked at its body and saw Magatsuhi emanating from it. Seeing that its life was at an end it let out a sigh and looked at the human.

"I'm sorry." He looked at the demon questioningly, "I'm sorry for hurting all those humans. I just wanted them to feel my anger, but I guess I went too far."

Jasper felt the sincerity in the demon's words and dismissed the magic in his hand. "I see. For what it's worth, I know you're not a bad demon. Just someone who lashed out because of your anger."

The demon weakly chuckled as it looked outside, "Maybe in another life I'll do something right."

"Why wait?"

"What do you mean?" Gremlin looked at the human curiously.

Jasper held up his hand and a green healing aura swirled around it "I'll heal you, in exchange, you will be working for me."

Gremlin looked at Jasper consideringly, " A demon contract, huh? If I did, what would you have me do?"

Jasper divulged what he had in mind and Gremlin listened to his every word.

"So that's the gist of our contract. What do you say, Gremlin?" Jasper held out his hand. A [Dia] ready to be used.

Gremlin looked at him and nodded "I accept."

In response to his acceptance, a [Dia] healed Gremlin's wounds and restored its body.

Gremlin floated unsteadily, still feeling the effects of the fight. The demon looked at Jasper and smiled. "Once again, I am Gremlin of the Jaki race. Call me when you need me, summoner." A magic circle appeared and he was gone in an instant.

Jasper stared at the space where Gremlin was and a thought came to him "Maybe I should make a pokeball, but for demons." With that bewildering thought hanging in the air, he jumped out of the building and hurriedly made way to his home. Oh and he'll have to show Sahori the demon tomorrow. He wonders what she'll say?

"Please tell me you're not serious." Sahori said with a deadpan expression.

"Quite serious, I'm afraid. Would you like to see it?" Jasper smirked at Sahori's expression.

Sahori can already feel the pounding headache that this conversation will bring.

"Let's start from the beginning, you said that you fought a demon and recruited it. Correct?"

"That's right." Jasper nodded

"Hmmm… yes, that's the part that I am confused about. You told me that you were just going to scout places that might have a demon in them." Sahori gripped her teacup tight

"Ah." Jasper became sheepish "I did say that, yes."

"Then why did you engage a demon without informing me." Sahori might not have shouted, but Jasper can tell that she is quite livid.

"Well, I was attacked by said demon when I was scouting the place, so-"

"You could have just ran, Jasper." Sahori interrupted, her eyes sending him a hard look.

"I…well…" Jasper's hesitated

"Well, what?" Sahori sent him a challenging look, daring him to lie to her.

Jasper sighed "I just wanted to test myself against an actual demon. After being beaten by that goat demon, I wanted to know if I could actually defeat one. I don't want to become a burden to you, like last time." He averted his eyes from hers and crossed his arms.

Sahori's eyes softened "You're not a burden, if anything I was the burden. You got hurt because of me." The memory of him getting badly hurt is still fresh in her mind.

A hand landed on top of her head. Sahori looked up and Jasper smiled at her "I hope you can forgive me this time. I promise I won't do it again, Sahori."

"You promise?" Sahori looked at him hesitantly

"I promise." Jasper held his hand over his heart and looked at her resolutely.

"Ok. I forgive you, then." Sahori sipped on her tea to calm her nerves and Jasper knew that she's beside herself with worry. Time to distract her then.

"So. How about I show you the demon that I got?" Jasper said eagerly

"I suppose, but please make sure that it won't ruin my room. Keep in mind, I always keep this place tidy." Sahori ignored Jasper's whisper of 'Doesn't Misaki keep this place clean?' and finished her tea.

"Alright then. I summon you, Gremlin." A blue magic circle appeared in front of Jasper and Sahori and Gremlin materialized in front of them as the magic circle collapsed.

Gremlin looked around the room and saw a red haired human girl along with its summoner "Summoner, why did you call me?"

"I just wanted you to meet my best friend, Gremlin." Jasper pointed at Sahori.

"My name is Itsukishima Sahori. It is nice to meet you, Gremlin." Sahori smiled and waved to Gremlin. In response, Gremlin just stared at her.

"So you're the boss's partner-in-crime, eh? You don't look so tough." Gremlin said as it scrutinised Sahori.

Jasper was about to interject, but was stopped when Sahori touched his shoulder.

"I don't like to make shows of force, but I can make an exception for you." Sahori smiled, although it didn't quite reach her eyes.

"Hoho, looks like she has fangs." Gremlin flew closer to Sahori, but Jasper grabbed the demon before it got close.

"Do not test her patience if you want to live a long life, Gremlin." Jasper's eyes sharpened "Or mine."

"Wah, what a scary summoner that I have." Gremlin wriggled out Jasper's grasp and put its hands on its body. "Let's not beat around the bush here, summoner. What did you really call me here for?"

Jasper almost rolled his eyes at the impatient demon "Well, if you're so keen on getting orders, then I'll give you one. Scout the whole of Minato ward for any signs of demons then report back to me."

Gremlin looked at him dumbly "What's a Minato Ward?"

Jasper sighed and rolled his eyes and Sahori giggled into her hands. What followed was two hours of a basic rundown of the places in Tokyo and the special wards in Tokyo including Minato ward.

In the span of that time, Misaki brought them food and drinks and was baffled when she saw a large map of Tokyo on the floor. With Jasper and Sahori poring over it and audibly pointing out the special wards of Tokyo and the landmarks of it.

Misaki stared at them blankly, thinking that her young master and friend are quite the eccentric people and left the room.

For Gremlin, the impromptu lesson made it more confused, but it did understand the gist of what they were saying. Tokyo was big, so don't go leaving the Minato place, ward, whatever and look for other demons and note their location. When that's done, report back to summoner.

Gremlin bit into the, what did they call it? Pineapple pie? And let the words wash over it. These two humans like to talk about things it didn't care about. Like, who cares about the change of the address system in 1969 and another reform from 1998. It doesn't even know what an address is. What it does know is that this Tokyo is far more beautiful than the Tokyo from where it originally came from and it likes living here.

The two children finally finished speaking and noticed that the food Misaki brought was devoured by Gremlin.

"Did you even listen to what we said, Gremlin" Jasper asked as he narrowed his eyes in annoyance

"Yeah, yeah, I did. Look for other demons in the Minato place and then report back to you."

"And?" Jasper pointedly asked

"And to not fight with them. Like you did with me." Sahori giggled when Gremlin smirked and added that last part. Jasper grumbled about Sahori and her loose lips.

"If that's it, then I'm going to leave now." Jasper nodded and Gremlin flew through the open window and into the city.

Both of them stared at the retreating form of Gremlin as it disappeared into the horizon.

"Do you think that Gremlin would really do as it's told?" Sahori asked, her features filled with doubt.

"The demonic contract that Gremlin and I have will make sure that it will do what it is told. In truth, the only thing that can break our contract is if the order I gave it runs contrary to what we agreed upon in the contract." Jasper produced an old parchment paper from thin air and handed it over to Sahori.

Sahori silently read the contract and was impressed in its thoroughness. She couldn't see anything wrong with it, but she had a question as soon as she saw the writing of the contract.

"Is this blood?" Sahori could sense that this wasn't written in ink or any other writing instruments.

"My blood, to be exact. To enforce my will upon the contract, one must have their life tied to it. What's more appropriate than using my blood to write this contract, wouldn't you agree, Sahori?" Jasper responded to her with a calm expression and Sahori couldn't help but be impressed by his willingness to use anything, even if it's his life's blood.

"I suppose. When dealing with demons, any advantage we can get over them is a must." Sahori sat at the table and poured herself a cup of tea. Even though Gremlin ate a lot of the food, it didn't touch the tea set aside for them.

'Perhaps it isn't partial to tea?' Sahori thought curiously.

Jasper joined her and grabbed a muffin "I think we can rely on Gremlin, for the time being. The worst it can do is stand idle and prolong my orders. If it disobeys me it would be punished by the contract." He poured himself a cup of tea and took a sip. Nodding in satisfaction when he felt it was still hot.

Sahori smiled in contentment as blissful silence reigned as they ate. After they were done eating they went downstairs to put the dishes in the sink. They hurriedly went back to Sahori's room to play video games and unwind from the events of the day.

Hours passed and Misaki knocked on the door informing them that dinner was ready. Jasper teased Sahori over not beating him in Advance Wars and Sahori pouted while vowing that she will defeat him one of these days.

When they arrived in the dining room the television across the room was tuned into the evening news and a news flash was currently being aired.

Seeing them arriving, Misaki was about to turn it off, but Sahori stopped her and she obliged.

A beautiful field reporter was covering the news "Several mangled corpses have been found in Odaiba." Behind her were five body bags and a group of policemen and investigators combing through the scene. "Witnesses on the scene stated that the identities of the victims were said to be unrecognizable due to their injuries. Furthermore, they saw big bite marks on the victims and plenty of them with missing body parts. The police have not corroborated the statements of the witnesses, but-" The three of them filtered out the words of the reporter.

"Oh my." Misaki held her hand on her mouth in disgust. "Such a gruesome crime, I hope the police stops whoever is responsible for this."

Jasper and Sahori looked at each other in worry. The two of them ate dinner silently, their minds occupied with the disturbing news that they had seen.
