A little boy, no more than eleven was tied down to a metal chair. He then felt another zap of electricity run threw his body. He cried out but it didn't stop immediately. It only stopped after a few minutes and he finally caught a breather.
He looked up with teary eyes at the mirror in front of him. But he knew it was a two way mirror.
"Wha-What did I do?!" he cried out. He got no response for a few seconds until the speaker in the corner spoke up.
"It's not what you did, it's what you didn't do" it said before giving him another electric shock.
"Let's review. I let starving dogs into your room and instead of killing them, you got out of their reach by placing your bed on an angle and cut off pieces of your arm and fed them!" It yelled as the electricity stopped. The boy cried before looking up.
"They didn't do anything bad, they were just hungry puppies" he said. Suddenly the door flew open and the scientist Dr Smith ran in.
"They were made to be like that! You were supposed to kill them!" he yelled before he brought his fist down to the boy.
DJ woke up with a jolt and quickly sliced his claws through the air multiple times before he realized he was alone in his room in the mountain.
He fell back into his bed and slowly his face dropped until he was crying. This wasn't just a one time thing now. It was now happening a few times a week since it started two weeks ago. Between the dreams and his body doing... Whatever it's doing at times... He doesn't know how much more he can handle.
Training room, Mount Justice.
Artemis and M'gann watched as Superboy and Kaldur'ahm sparred in the training area. Wally was off to the side eating and DJ was in his room having a nap. Batman had called Robin off to do some work in Gothem.
"Kaldur is nice don't you think? Strong, commanding. You should totally ask him out" Artemis said to M'gann. Ever since the mission with doctor Roquette, the two had grown very close.
"He's like a big brother to me. But you know who would make the cutest couple? You and Wally" M'gann fired back. "You're so full of passion and he's so full of... Um" she paused seeing Wally devour his food.
"It?" Artemis guessed. The two shared a laughed as Superboy flipped Kaldur'ahm on his back. He dusted off his hands and smiled at his opponent.
"Black Canary taught me that one" he said as at the same time DJ and Red Tornado came out of their rooms.
"What about DJ then? Artemis tried again. "Strong, rugged, fit, sexy" she said. M'gann looked over at DJ as he walked past them shirtless. He had heard them talking so he sent a wink her way, making the Martian laugh. But she noticed something else about him.
"He's hot for sure. But he's got that rough kind of love. More of a one night stand kinda guy for me" she said. Artemis laughed before she felt the familiar pain in her head. She went to shout but M'gann's face told her not to.
'Have you noticed something off about DJ?' M'gann asked through the mental link. Artemis looked over at DJ who was drinking orange juice straight out of the carton. He then stopped and let out a loud burp before continuing. Artemis was about to make a sly comment when she noticed that his eyes had bags under them and she could see sweat in his hair.
While the girls had their private chat, Wally zoomed in front of Red Tornado who had almost made it out.
"Do you have a mission for us?" he asked. Red Tornado looked at the speedster with his normal look.
"Missions are the Batman's responsibility" he said simply.
"Yeah well the Batmans with the Robin, doing the dynamic duo thing in Gothem. but you're heading somewhere right? Hot date or a mission" Wally said.
"If we can be of assistance" Kaldur said coming over along with the rest of the team. Red Tornado walked over to the computer and typed on it until an old man appeared on the screen.
"This is Kent Nelson, a friend. He is 106 years old" Red Tornado said.
"Guy doesn't look a day over ninety" Wally comments in Artemis's direction. M'gann steps up on his left, immediately drawing the ginger's attention away from the archer.
"And he has been missing for twenty-three days" Tornado continues, either not hearing Wally or ignoring him. "Kent was a charter member of the Justice Society"
The image on the holoscreen changes to cover Kent's face with a golden helmet and his clothes turn royal blue with a gold belt, breastplate, gauntlets, boots and cape.
"The precursor to your mentor's Justice League" with that Kent's picture became Doctor Fate's.
"Of course" Kaldur realizes, sounding annoyed with himself. "Nelson was Earth's Sorcerer Supreme. He was Doctor Fate."
"Pfft" Wally snorted. "More like Doctor Fake, guy knows a little advanced science and Dumbledore's it up to scare the bad guys and impress the babes" he whispers to Artemis. Tornado turns to the Team again.
"Kent may just be on one of his… walkabouts, but he is caretaker to the Helmet of Fate. The source of the Doctor's mystic might, and it unwise to leave such power unguarded" Red Tornado said as M'gann smiled.
"He's like the great sorcerer-priests and priestesses of Mars, I would be honored to help find him" M'gann speaks up, everyone pays her attention, knowing that it isn't often she would bring up her life on their sister planet, much less her religion. Wally's hand shoots up instantly.
"Me too" Everyone turns to him, surprised. "So honored, I can barely stand it" Wally continues, suddenly sounding sheepish as he realizes all attention was focused on him. Behind him, Artemis glares.
"Magic rocks" he added, throwing in a Rock and Roll hand gesture. The blonde rolls her eyes and she crosses her arms.
"Take this, it is the key to the Tower of Fate" Tornado says, offering up an old brass key. Aqualad takes it from his waiting hand.
"What are the chances we both so admire the mystic arts?" Wally questions M'gann. She gives him a small smile, but nothing more. DJ rolled his eyes and grabbed a spare tank top from the arm of the couch.
Inside the Bioship, M'gann was at the helm, Artemis directly in front of her, Wally and DJ to Artemis's right, with Kaldur and Superboy in that order on her left.
Artemis looked over at DJ and smiled. He had kept his word and hasn't told her secret to the team. But she knew eventually someone else would figure it out. She already had Red Arrow on that trail. She then smiled and looked at Wally with an evil grin.
"So Wally, when did you realize your honest affinity for sorcery?" she asked smiling like the Grinch.
"Well, I-I don't like to brag" Wally stumbles over his words, but his attention is fully out of the corner of his eye right at M'gann who turned to look at him.
"But, uh before I became Kid Flash, I seriously considered become a wizard myself" he said. Seeing that he has M'gann's attention, he puts his hands behind his head and visibly relaxes.
Artemis rolls her eyes, and Kaldur looks away from KF.
"We've reached Tornado's coordinates, but-" M'gann starts, as she brings the bioship down in the street. Everyone stepped out and seen a large open field.
Kid zipped around the field looking for the tower while DJ smacked his lips.
"Do I whistle?" he asked Kaldur who waited for Wally. Wally skidded to a stop in the middle of the field, confused.
"Nothing" he says, looking to Artemis. "This isn't simple camouflage" The whole team looks to the ginger speedster, but Artemis is smug when she responds.
"What do you think, adaptive micro-opto-electronics combined phase shifting?" She asked hoping to catch him in a lie.
"Absolutely…" Wally starts, but as M'gann appears in his line of sight the slight smile drops from his face.
"Not. Clearly mystic powers are at work here" he said while looking at M'gann with a lustful look.
Artemis glares, while Superboy and Aqualad look skeptical. M'gann is oblivious to what is happening. DJ just rolled his eyes while the scent of testosterone filled his nose. Kaldur looks to the key in his hand.
"A test of faith" he repeats, looking to the handle on the key where it says 'INSERT'. He walks past Artemis, DJ and Superboy.
"Stand behind me" he commands as the team does so. Stepping up so he is more than three steps ahead of the closest team member. Raising the key, it disappears and sounds as though it clicks into a lock. Turning his hand the tumblers thud to the unlocked position. As this happens a massive stone tower comes into sight, much to Artemis's, DJ's and Wally's surprise. Though Superboy and M'gann seem rather calm about it.
Kaldur keeps a hand on the key, pushing the ornate wooden door inwards. The Team following him in without a command. The door slams shut, but the key remains in the door.
"Uh, where'd the door go?" Superboy asks, confused and the entire team looks around the blank four walls. Until a gold-tinted projection of Kent Nelson appears.
"Greetings" the projection of Kent's magic power begin to speak. "You have entered with a key, but the Tower does not recognize you. State your purpose and your intent" Wally looks back at M'gann before smiling and stepping forwards.
"We are true believers, here to find Doctor Fate" he said with an overdramatic smile.
Kent looks at him sadly, then fades from view. Wally's face falls until he hears the sound of the floor creaking loudly. Looking down just in time to see the whole segment give out from underneath the Team. Dropping all six of them towards the magma at the bottom.
DJ and Superboy fell the fastest being the heaviest. M'gann grabbed Wally and levitated as best she could, but couldn't keep it up because of the heat. Artemis grabbed Kaldur and pulled her side weapon, which was a small crossbow. She then shot a grappling arrow at the wall.
DJ grabbed Superboy's forearm and went to dig his claws into the wall however nothing came out. He quickly tried again as they normally came out. He dug the claws on his into the wall hoping no one noticed that. The two slid down getting closer to the lava until they both stopped less than a foot from the bottom.
"Thanks" Superboy panted. DJ nodded while breathing heavily as well. He never heard if Adamantium can be melted, but it was probably best not to find out this way. He looked up and seen M'gann and Wally slowly falling, slowing and speeding up as M'gann power wanes and waxes.
"Having trouble… maintaining altitude…" she wipes sweat from her brow. "Ugh, I'm so hot" Wally looks at her and smiled.
"You sure are" he says not even thinking.
"Wally!" Artemis both gasps at and reprimands him as the two passed the archer and Atlantian.
"Hey, inches above sizzling death, I'm entitled to speak my mind!" he snaps back. Kaldur also wipes the sweat off his brow.
"My physiology... and M'gann's are susceptible to heat, we must climb out quickly" he said as DJ nodded.
"Yeah and we're not doing so good down here neither" he said as sweat from his and Superboy's hands made it harder to hold on to one another.
"Hello, Megan" M'gann said through gasps. "We never… truly answered the question. Red Tornado… sent us… to see if… Mr Nelson and the Helmet… were safe"
A panel slides shut underneath Superboy's feet, calmly he steps on the panel as DJ landed next to him. Wally falls, landing on his butt while M'gann falls next to him on her knees. Artemis and Kaldur belay down to the panel.
"Hey" DJ said crouching down and touching the floor. "Shouldn't this be hot, or at least warm?" he asked. Kaldur also crouched and touched the floor.
"He is correct, this platform is cold to the touch" he stated. Artemis then looked over as Wally helped M'gann up.
"Don't worry Megalicious, I gotcha" Wally said. Artemis scowled and shoved Wally into the wall.
"Enough" she yelled in his face. "Your little 'impress M'gann at all cost' game nearly got us all barbecued" Wally glared back at the blonde.
"How is this my fault" he asked as Kaldur got ready to restrain Wally as DJ got ready to do the same to Artemis.
"When you lied to that... whatever it was and called yourself a 'true believer' " Artemis snaps. Superboy and M'gann looked at the redhead from behind her while Kaldur and DJ looked up from the ground. Once again all the attention in the room was on Wally.
"Wally... You don't believe?" M'gann questions, stunned. Wally glares at Artemis before speaking out in exacerbation.
"Fine. Fine! I lied about believing in Magic! But magic is the real lie, it's all a major load!" He shouted.
"Wally, I studied for a year at the Conservatory of Sorcery in Atlantis" Kaldur says, his hand still on the floor. "The Mystic Mages created the skin icons that power my Water-bearers"
"Dude, you ever hear of Bioelectricity?" he asks, seeming annoyed, but not demeaning.
"Hey in primitive cultures, fire was once considered magic too. Today, it's all a bunch of tricks" he said.
"You're pretty closed minded for a guy who can break thesound barrier in his sneakers" Artemis spoke up.
"That's science" Wally says simply. "I recreated the Flash's experiment, and here I am!" he says.
"DJ, back me up here" he then said pointing all the attention at the teammate who had stayed quiet this whole time. However DJ shook his head and stood up.
"Can't do that. Since we've been here, I've seen a tower appear out of thin air, a holographic image that seemed to respond to your voice. And we are currently standing on top of metal that should be glowing orange" he said as Wally just continued to scowl.
''Everything can be explained by science" he said crossing his arms. Kaldur smirks.
"Let us test that theory" then grabs a handle for a hatch on the floor.
"Wait, the back draft from the lava will roast us alive!" Wally protests, but Kaldur opens it anyway. Only to reveal snow.
They all jumped inside and landed on the snow. Artemis then shot a look over at Wally.
"Well?" Artemis asks, a confident look on her face.
"Every hear of string theory?" he questions sarcastically. "We're in a pocket dimension."
"Ugh" Artemis growls angered by Wally's absolute lack of faith.
"What's that?" M'gann questions. What she's looking at is Kent Nelson's cane floating above the snow. Artemis slowly walked over to it.
"Ooo, maybe it's Kent's magic wand" Wally says sarcastically before speeding over hoping to grab it before Artemis does. However they grabbed it at the same time.
"I got it" they both said. They both tried to let go but found they couldn't. It then began to glow gold. DJ quickly ran forwards to help them however the wand shot upwards taking the two teens with it.
DJ landed in the snow as Artemis and Wally disappeared in a gold portal. DJ slammed his fist in the snow and stood up before looking around. He sniffed the air a few times before he smiled and pointed in a direction.
They walked through the snow in silence until M'gann spoke up.
"I don't understand Wally, it's like he needs to believe that the impossible can't happen" she said. Aqualad stopped walking as did everyone else.
"Wally uses his understanding of science to control what he cannot comprehend. Acknowledging magic would relinquish the last vestige of that control" Aqualad said. He was about to continue but he heard DJ sniffing more hardly.
"Something wrong?" Aqualad asked. DJ turned to his leader with a slight look of concern.
"I'm smelling more than Wally and Artemis's scents, all males. One's definitely not human, but the other two are humans. One old and has the slight scent of fear. Another late thirties, early forties. smells like confidence, but also slight fear. And for some reason I don't know... a cat?" DJ said.
"The old guy might be Kent Nelson. And the other two may be his captives. DJ lead the way" M'gann said. DJ chuckled before he sniffed again and started walking the same direction as before. Suddenly a door opened up in mid air as underneath it stairs appeared leading up to it.
"Okay, now I belive for sure" DJ said as they walked to the door.
On a nearby platform where the teen is watching Kadabra torture Kent, Artemis and Wally suddenly come into existence. Neither lets go of the cane as they move from lying on their sides to kneeling on one knee. Kent sees them instantly.
Once Wally's looking in the right direction he recognizes Kadabra.
"Abra Kadabra" he growls as Kadabra stops zapping Kent. Kent relaxes and gains a slight smile.
"Well, would you look at that" he said as the cane glows in Artemis and Wally's grip in response. Kent's whole body then glows the same gold. Kadabra and the teen barely glance at the teen-heroes as Kent begins to float and fly past them. Grabbing the cane with both hands, it immediately lets Wally and Artemis be able to let it go as Kent's bonds come undone.
"In here" Kent says, standing up and using his cane to create an elevator in the wall. All three rush in.
"No! No! No!" the teen working with Kadabra shouts angrily. "I want that helmet!" he raises his hands, red magic gathering as the door to the elevator begins to shut.
"I want it! I want it! I want it!" the red lightning only hitting after the doors are fully shut.
Elevator music plays in the background as the number shown increases. Both teens look to Nelson, unsure who should say something first.
"Uh, I'm Kent Nelson. By the way" Kent finally speaks up.
"No duh" Wally mumbles. Only to be hit by an elbow to the chest by Artemis. He hisses in pain as Artemis steps up.
"I'm Artemis" she tells him. "Miss Manners here, is Wally" Kent smiles.
"Well, Artemis, we're up against an opponent that with tremendous mystic power" he said as Wally rolled his eyes.
"Abra Kadabra?" Wally questions rhetorically then scoffs. "Flash proved that he uses futuristic technology tosimulatemagic" he says directly at Kent. "Guy's all show and no biz."
"Right you are" Kent agrees. Much to Artemis's shock. As Wally smiles proudly, looking at her shocked expression with a little too much pride.
"He is?" she asks, stunned.
"Abra is a charlatan" Kent said. "But Klarion, the Witch Boy. The kid with the cat, he's an actual Lord of Chaos, the ultimate enemy of a Lord of Order like Doctor Fate" Kent said.
"Right" Wally drawls. "You're a Lord of Order" though he sounds hesitant and confused.
"Oh, no. Not me" Kent says with a smile. "I'm just an old coot Fate used to put on. Until my wife Inza convinced me there was more to life" he opens his watch and looks down at her picture.
"Ah, she was a real pistol, that Inza" he said. he then snapped it shut and got back on track. "Anyway, Klarion's after the helmet. If he gets his sticky little mitts on it, he'll turn the planet into his own personal playground of pandemonium" he said.
The elevator dings, and the doors open. The three walk out, seeing a giant golden tower-bell hanging on the platform before them. Following Kent, Artemis and Wally ascend the stairs.
Suddenly a portal opened up fifteen feet off the floor. DJ came through spinning in the air, landing in a perfect superhero landing... Until Superboy and Aqualad came crashing down and landed on DJ.
Miss Martian then floated down peacefully and landed beside the boys, giggling slightly.
"Friends of yours?" Kent asked. Suddenly red lightning went in between him and Wally. They both turned and seen Klarion, his cat Abra Kadabra standing there.
"Friends of yours?" Wally asked sarcastically before grabbing him and getting him out of the way of Kadabra's next shot. Artemis, Kaldur, DJ, Superboy, and M'gann are all forced to dodge it as well.
Kent and Wally crouch near the bell, until Kent stands, raising his cane, and hitting the bell.
As the bell tolls, it gains both Klarion and Kadabra's attention. Keeping Teekl in his arms, Klarion takes off into the air as Kent and Wally walk into the bell. Klarion following them in without any hesitation. DJ seeing this quickly runs to the bell while the rest of the team has Kadabra distracted. He enters the bell just as it stopped ringing.
Wally and Kent appear on the roof of the tower, floating just above their heads. Is the golden helmet. As Kent reaches for the helmet, he's hit by a bolt of Klarion's magic.
"Mr. Nelson" Wally gasps, grabbing Kent to stop him from hitting the ground. Klarion smiles and prepares another shot until his cat hisses and growls behind him.
Klarion turns only to meet a fist sending him back. DJ smiles as the cat at his feet only hisses at him. DJ looks down unimpressed before lazily kicking the cat to the side, barley even moving his body. He then jumped out of the way as a recovered Klarion fires at him.
Kent stands, despite the fact that he has to groan through the pain, before raising his cane as begins to cast a spell. At the end of the spell, he slams his cane down on the ground, creating a golden shield around the helmet, Wally, and himself.
"Not bad for a former Dr Fake, eh kid" Kent said to Wally before he loses his balance and falls into Wally's arms as his cane falls to the side. "The bubble'll give you just enough time-" he gasps for a breath. "to do what you need to do."
Wally's eyes go wide before he looked up and seen that DJ was barely dodging Klarion's attacks. And judging from his body there was a few that he didn't dodge.
"I have no idea what I need to do" Kent opens his watch, looking up at Wally.
"Have faith in what you can't explain. Believe in what you can no longer deny" with that Kent falls limp in his arms, his watch falling out of his hand as it hits the floor.
Wally can only look upon the scene, stunned. He quickly placed his hands on Kent's chest before doing CPR.
"28. 29. 30" Wally counts the chest compressions. "Come on. Come on" he begs Kent. However the man laid still on the ground.
DJ growled and ran at Klarion but the Lord of Chaos shot at the teen with both hands. DJ threw his claws up in the shape of an X as the magic deflected off them. He gritted his teeth and took a few steps as lightning blasts his claws. Klarion growled slightly before he closed his eyes and roared, his blasts growing bigger.
Finally DJ was shot backwards and over the edge of the tower. He quickly jammed his claws into the side of the tower only falling twenty feet down. He lightly touched his burned and charred chest before hissing slightly.
Klarion then begins firing shots with each hand, throwing them almost like baseballs at the bubble. Which is enough to take Wally's attention away from Kent.
"I want that helmet and I want it now!" he growls. Through the bubble, Wally can hear him. he looked up to the helmet, then down to Kent.
"Wally, we're in trouble" M'gann's voice cut through telepathically into Wally's head
Within the tower, Kaldur and Superboy are trapped in electrical cages. While Miss Martian keeps one hand out to deflect shots telekinetically, and Artemis shoots at Kadabra.
"Tell Kent we need Doctor Fate. Now" she continues as Artemis tries to shoot Kadabra with her crossbow. He then fires a lightning blast at the two heroines.
The jolt snaps the connection between Wally and M'gann. Bringing his mind back to the rooftop with a gasp.
Gritting his teeth Klarion pauses, then forms a magic circle with symbols around his feet. Gathering power between his hands until they expand to create two red hands that instantly shoot out and manage to get a grip on the shield surrounding the helmet, Wally, and Kent.
The claws sinking in as Kent's cane begins to burn. When the cane runs out, the shield will break. The claws screech against the shield, ignoring it Wally looks down at Kent.
"A test of faith" he agrees. Standing, he takes the helmet in his hands. Though, Klarion grabs his attention before he can put it on.
"Hey, dumb kid. You put that on, you may never get it off!" he warns as he rips the shield apart.
Wally raises the helmet, ignoring the teen. Klarion gathers more magic, shooting it at Wally. However, he puts the helmet on before it can hit him. Though the magic does absorb him.
DJ finally made it back to the top and seen Klarion and Dr Fate trading a few blasts. But he didn't see Wally.
"Kid!!!" He yelled out only to be ignored by the two magic beings since they couldn't hear his yell over the blasts. Getting no response from K.F, DJ's breathing became rapid as he wondered where his teammate had gone... His friend.
Slowly the breathing became deep growls as his pupils shrunk and slowly the hazel in his eyes was replaced by blood red.
"Give it up Nabu, Order went out of style in the 20th century" Klarion shouts, still throwing magic, but they all hit a projection of Doctor Fate's cross that acts as a shield. Nabu holds out both hands.
"This battle is pointless" when Doctor Fate spoke, Nabu and Wally's voices overlap. "You sought to take the helmet before it gained a host. But you are too late."
"SHUT IT, YOU OLD FART!" Klarion snaps, drawing two large stone columns from the tower, and moving them so they slam against Doctor Fate's sides. Only for his symbol to show on the outside of the rock before it blows to pieces.
Just as Nabu was about to retaliate, he looked behind the Lord of Chaos.
"One thing that you should never mess with brat, friendship" Dr Fate said. Klarion was confused until he heard the low huffing. Turning around, he seen DJ walking towards him. The appearance of the razor clawed boy made even Klarion take a step back.
His eyes were now a blood red and they only showed the crazed look of a Warrior. His hair had a wild style to it now making him look like a rabid animal.
DJ unsheathed his claws and then started running at the Lord of Chaos. Klarion smiles and raised his hands only to have Nabu shoot his back with a blast.
The sneak attack created the distraction DJ needed. He jumped in the air clearing a twenty foot leap and aimed for Klarion's throat.
Klarion only just had enough time to duck, however the claws from the boy still left three cut marks on the right side of his jawline and cheek. DJ then rolled to a stop under Nabu's floating feet
"Ow, hey! You could've killed me!" He yelled. Of course he'd just regenerate in his own dimension, but it still hurt.
"I know" DJ said, his voice deeper than usual. Klarion snarled and shot a blast the two. Nabu raised his hands to create a shield as DJ ducked behind it.
"Heroes do not kill" Nabu said over his shoulder. He knew that the Witch Boy would regenerate, he knew from his host's brain that this boy had no experience with magic or Lords. DJ looked up at him and snarled.
"I'll kill whoever I need to until I find what happened to my friend" DJ snarled. However he then sniffed the air and looked at Nabu.
"Kid?" he asked as Klarion's attacks stopped and Dr Fate fired one of his own.
"Yes, your friend put on the helmet and has become my new host. But he is fine" Nabu said turning slightly so DJ could see Wally's green eyes. DJ nodded slightly calming down.
"Okay, so what's the plan Dr Fate?" DJ asked. Fate turned back and seen the shield was crumbling.
"Create a distraction and I'll do the rest. There's two of us and one of him" he answered. DJ nodded before running out from behind the shield, yelling.
Klarion directed his attacks to the razor clawed boy, but DJ avoided them using some moves that Black Canary had taught him. He finally was on the other side of Klarion and jumped over the edge of the tower, this time only going down a few feet.
Dr Fate took the chance and fired a shot at the Witch Boy's back making him scream in pain while disintegrating.
However he immediately appeared behind the Lord of Order and fired at his back making him fall to the ground. He smiled before summoning a large red dragon before throwing it at the downed hero. However DJ ran and jumped in between of the downed Lord and the dragon. He knew Wally didn't have healing powers and he wasn't sure about Dr Fate.
However before the dragon could make contact with him. Dr Fate grabbed the boy and jumped out of the way of the Dragon before shooting it when it came back around, destroying it.
Klarion then shot a blast at the two sending them to the other side of the roof.
As Fate gets his hands under him Klarion changes the flames in his hands to red dots that hang in the air. Before he uses finger guns to have them start shooting at Doctor Fate.
The Lord of Order barely has time to get a shield up to protect himself as DJ used his claws to deflect shots again. Though each shot cracks the shield until it shatters, knocking Fate even further back as well as DJ, who was shot in the chest while distracted by Fate's injury
Though Fate rolls to his feet to dodge more red fire. Taking off into the air to continue to avoid the red fire Klarion is spewing while DJ ran at Klarion, but the Lord of Chaos caught his punch while forming red fire in the other. He punched DJ several times in the head before he threw the boy back against the edge of the tower.
Grinning devilishly, Klarion raises a hand at Fate now, creating red columns that Fate dodges. Until right before Klarion he gets hit by one. Knocking him to the ground beside DJ where the helmet hits with a clang.
"You're out of practice, Nabu. And that pathetic host body" he said rubbing his fingernails together making a sound as if they were made of metal.
"Zero affinity for the mystic arts" Klarion raises his hands, thunderclaps in the sky, as a full storm brews over the tower. Red lightning raining down.
Just in time Fate gets a barrier up over himself and DJ, though the energy that comes off is rainbow rather than gold or red.
"Ooo, rainbow power" Klarion taunts before his cat meows and he starts arguing with said cat. Meanwhile DJ got back up and looked up at the colours.
"I don't get it" he said gaining the attention from Dr Fate. "Shouldn't coming over to our dimension have weakened him somehow or something like that."
Nabu was about to correct him when the realization hit him.
"The cat. Stay behind me" he said only confusing the boy. A golden glow then appeared on his chest before exploding outwards making Klarion cover his eyes when he looked back up golden flames surrounded the two.
"It is difficult for a Lord of Order or Chaos to maintain a presence on the physical plane. I don't know how I did not remember that until the boy spoke" Fate said standing tall.
Angered to be compared to a Lord of Order, Klarion's whole form changes, dropping any resemblance to a normal human. As he erupts in a red fire that covers him and Teekl, before launching fire at Fate with a screech.
"I am bound to the helmet and use a human host" Fate continues, dodging all of Klarion's attacks while DJ circled to Klarion's back. Seeing a pause in he attacks, Fate unleashes his own, which Klarion barely blocks with stone from the tower.
"But that is not your way" he added almost teasing the Lord. Klarion snarled.
"You're babbling, Nabu" he said his hands gathering red flames again.
"Am I?" Fate questions, drawing his hands to his chest. Where a yellow beam shoots out.
Klarion raises a shield quickly, looking away because he knows it's not strong enough. However, the beam misses him entirely. Teekl's hackles rise as she hisses, and yelps at the impact that sends her flying back. While distracted, DJ body checked Klarion sending him laying beside Teekl.
"Teekl!" Klarion shouts, rising to his feet and turning to Fate and DJ, who stood back with his friend. "I can't believe you assault a defenseless pussycat."
"We both know that creature is no cat, Witch Boy" Wally's green eyes narrow in accusation. "And without your familiar..."
The yellow flames that surrounded Teekl fade out as she warily stands to her feet. The yellow flame now gathered in Fate's hands.
"You have no anchor in this reality" he added. Proving it, Klarion fades from sight in staggering increments.
"Bullies! Killjoys! Geezer! Dummy!" Fate and DJ looked at each other before DJ ran at him while Fate raises his hands, shooting another beam, this time at Klarion.
"Holy crap!" the Witch Boy yelps before jumping into a red and black portal. Another forming above Teekl, where he drops out and picks her up in his arms.
"We're out of here!" both of them fully dissolving into black and red outlined before they both disappeared from the tower leaving just Fate and DJ on the tower. Fate then turned to DJ and bowed.
"It has been an honor to fight along side you, honorable Warrior. And I thank you for defending me" Fate said. DJ smiled.
"You too Dr Fate, and I hope one day we will fight along side one another again. Okay, Wally time to go" he said only to have Nabu stand still.
"You don't seem to understand. Your friend has put on the helmet of Fate, so he will become my new host" Dr Fate said.
"Wha-what, hang on. Wally put the helmet on to defeat Klarion. Now that he's gone you can release Wally" DJ said angrily. If he was going to try and keep Wally, DJ would rip that helmet off despite what he just said.
"Hang on" he said before he just stared dead ahead, like he was in a trance. DJ paced back and forth worried. He couldn't take Wally, I mean he couldn't, but he shouldn't.
Suddenly a flash of light filled the whole tower as DJ turned and seen Wally standing there in his normal clothes and the helmet in his hands.
"I'm back baby" he said half jokingly half 'Oh thank god.' DJ ignored his comment before walking up to the speedster.
"You see what happened was, energy from the helmet rewrote my brain's Beta Waves. I was-" he couldn't finish as DJ got to him and wrapped his arms around Kid. Wally was stunned, but slowly hugged him back. This was the first time DJ hugged anyone that he knew of. After a few seconds DJ shook him off and stepped back.
"I uh, I would've missed your jokes around the base" he said before he quickly walked away. Wally smiled before looking down at the helmet of Fate. This was probably the best souvenir yet, but that's not what he was thinking about.
"I promise to find you a new host soon" he said quietly, knowing that M'gann still had the mental link on. He then smiled and walked with DJ to find the way down the tower.
