Hello, everyone! Lately, I have had the urge to start a new fanfiction within the universe of My Hero Academia. I enjoyed watching and learning about this world of superheroes and its colorful cast, and it inspired me with this story. I am watching the show on Netflix but am currently in the middle of season 3, so please, NO SPOILERS FOR SEASONS 4-6 IN THE REVIEWS! I will continue to watch the anime as I write this story. Though most of this fanfic will focus on a whole new cast of characters I created, they will interact with existing characters from the anime. I do not own My Hero Academia. The anime is the property of Bones Studio while the manga is the property of Kohei Horikoshi. I hope you enjoy it!
Prologue
Somewhere in New York City
Four-year-old Max skipped down the sidewalk on his way home from school. The spring air was warm with a slight breeze as peddles drifted from the tree branches.
However, his moment of serenity was interrupted when he heard a mixture of laughter and crying as he skipped passed the park. Max stopped and backtracked to witness a sight that made his blood boil. Three older boys surrounded a fourth boy who was the same age as Max. The younger boy's face was covered in bruises with blood dripping from his nose as he tried to wipe the tears from his eyes.
One of the older kids snickered and said, "What are you going to do now, you quirkless wimp? Cry out for a hero? None will come, because you're not even worth saving!"
Max could feel his rage build up inside of him as his hand tightened into a fist and gritted his teeth. He could not take it anymore. These bigger kids were picking on the poor defenseless boy and Max needed to do something about…like his mother.
Max dropped his backpack and marched to the bullies shouting, "Hey! Leave him alone!"
The bullies turned their attention to the Asian American kid who stood tall before them with anger in his eyes.
They just smirked as the leader said, "Or what? You going to fight us three against two?"
Suddenly, the leader's skin changed into stone, activating his quirk. "We'd be glad to plow the grass with both of you quirkless dweebs."
Max smirked. "Who said I had no quirk?"
He began to concentrate as his body started to glow, like the sun. The bullies stepped back in shock and fear as the victimized child stared in awe.
Max's body glowed brighter and brighter; his black hair turned into a shiny golden color. Eventually, the Asian American boy let out a loud cry as he reached out both hands and shot a beam of solar energy toward the bullies. Quickly, they jumped out of the way as the beam hit a nearby tree and blasted it into splinters.
The bullies now knew this kid was serious.
The leader's face scrunched into anger as he shouted. "Get him!"
The other two bullies displayed their quirks. One shot electricity from his hands while the other grew cephalopod tentacles from his sides. They charged each other as a great battle ensued between Max and the bullies. Luckily for the Asian American boy, the sun was brightly shining today, giving him all the energy he needed to power his quirk, and he already knew unarmed combat thanks to his mother.
Max was able to dodge the strikes from the lead bully and blast him away with his solar beam. He had to be careful in focusing the beam so that it only caused minimal damage and did not severely burn the kids. Max also learned how to focus his solar energy into his fists when punching, capable of delivering enough force through the leader's rocky armor.
With their leader knocked down after several blows from Max, the remaining bullies continued charging. Like before, the young boy used his self-defense and quirk to face them.
Max also learned some of these moves by watching his mom on the news, when she fought villains. But the boy knew he was nowhere as powerful as his mother, especially at the age he was now. The Asian American boy was only four and was still getting used to his quirk since it manifested on his last birthday.
Regardless, the two bullies struggled to land blows on Max. He received a few shocks from the electric bully and got whacked by the other bully's tentacles, but the boy still held his ground, willing to stand for this poor kid being harassed. They were villains picking on a defenseless civilian and he was the hero to step in and save the day.
Eventually, all three bullies lay on the grass, groaning in pain and exhaustion from the fight as Max stood triumphant. Though he was victorious, he too was exhausted from the fight, especially when he overused his quirk.
All three bullies stood up, battered and bruised.
The leader growled and pointed to Max yelling, "This isn't over, twerp! Someday, I'm going to stomp out that smug smile of yours and everyone will see how much of a hero you really are!"
The bullies ran out of the park as the bully with the tentacles whined, "I'm telling my mom!"
When they were all gone, Max turned his attention to the boy who was victimized by the three delinquents. His demeanor became more calm and sincere as he walked over and knelt in front of the child, offering his hand.
"Are you okay?" asked Max.
The boy slowly smiled as he grabbed his savior's hand. "Yeah, thanks. That was awesome what you did!"
Max chuckled as he scratched the back of his head. "You think so? I know I'm not as strong as my mom."
The boy's eyes widened in realization. "Wait, your mom?...No way! I thought I recognized that quirk. Your mom is Solar Flare!"
Max gave a nod. "That's right."
"Cool!"
"If you want, you can come to my house and see her in person."
"Really?"
"Yeah, maybe she can take us flying later."
"That would be so cool!"
Max gestured with his head. "Come on, my house is down the block. My name is Max by the way."
"I'm Patrick," replied the boy.
The two boys walked down the sidewalk as Patrick turned to Max. "Does this make us friends?"
The Asian-American boy could only smile. "I'd like to think so."
Hope everyone liked this little prologue introducing the main character of this fanfic. I know it was highly familiar with the prologue of the anime, and I apologize if that disappointed anybody. But believe me, Max is a different character from Midoriya (obviously being he was born with a quirk). So, feel free to give me your feedback on what you think so far from this little sneak peek. I will try to post the first chapter as soon as possible. Again, NO SPOILERS FOR SEASONS 4-6. If I get enough positive reviews, I might continue writing this story. I want to introduce the lineup of new characters I created as well as their interactions with existing characters from the anime. Until next time!
