Shinra Headquarters, Junon
Reeve Tsueti sighed and finished organizing his desk. Looking around he wondered where he would be in 5 years working for Shinra. It was his first day and he already had 6 projects that looked like they would be nearly impossible to complete. Taking another look around his small cubicle, he sat down and booted his computer. 'Might as well get started and see what kind of budget I have.'
The engineer reviewed the project guidelines and the allocated budget. He started banging his head on his desk. His budget for each project was overdrawn and he couldn't ask for any more funds. Sighing he pulled up the simplest project and started working on how to salvage it.
Shinra Headquarters, Midgar, 10 years before Meteor
Reeve scrubbed his hands over his eyes and sighed. He helped design and build the city but he was disappointed that the President chose the cheapest design. Midgar could have been so much more but profit won over safety and security.
Looking out at the cityscape, the man wondered what he could do that would allow him to learn about issues and problems with the structure. It was a given that a city such as Midgar would have a lot of problems and quick fixes would be the norm. If only he could have spies and cameras to see all of the city.
Just as he turned from the window, he had a thought, why couldn't he build what he needed. Once the idea was planted, Reeve became obsessed with seeing it through.
Reeve worked and reworked every design spec; making sure each segment from materials to programming was perfect. Finally, he had a prototype. The little cat doll, with its red cape and crown looked innocent. No one would suspect it of being his spy. The recording devices and analyzers were well hidden and the data would be retrievable via Wi-Fi.
Looking at the completed doll, Reeve flipped the switch and watched as it came to life.
Small fluttering movements, little jerks and soon the doll started to move. The first thing it did was look around. Once it saw Reeve, it spoke, "Heya boss. What's the first assignment?"
Reeve was giddy, this doll, this Cait-Sith was going to be the first of many. With them he would be able to find and possibly fix issues with the city.
The man smiled, "First, your name is Cait-Sith. Your job is to wonder around the city and find problems. Things like structural issues, monsters' nests, mako leaks, and any rumors about gangs and attacks on the reactors."
The doll looked a little confused, "That's a lot for just one of me. I'll do my best though."
Reeve laughed, "Don't worry. I'll make you some siblings so you have help. For right now, just explore the building were in and report back once you have some ideas on what the best way for you to do your work is."
Cait-Sith nodded and looked thoughtful It hopped of the work bench and started walking around the room. It was a large work room and had everything an engineer needed. The doll started digging through boxes and then shooting off questions.
Things like: how extensive are the vents, can I fit in them, would it be possible to have a way to protect itself? A lot of questions.
Reeve shook his head, "I don't know about a weapon but I can get you the schematics for the city and a majority of the buildings in it. What kind of weapon were you thinking of?"
The little doll sat down and thought for a little while. "It should be something that doesn't look like a weapon. Something that a doll would carry."
Reeve thought for a moment and nodded. "How about a megaphone. I see them all the time and many provide boosts in battle."
Cait-Sith nodded and was happy. After getting the schematics, the doll jumped int to the vents and vanished.
Reeve let out another laugh and turned to build siblings for his creation. 'Megaphones, haha.'
Midgar, After the defeat of the Diamond Weapon
Cloud wondered the Shinra HQ locker room in a daze. He had no idea why he was here. He just had a feeling.
"Cloud, why are we here," asked Tifa. Her and Cait-Sith had followed the blond back to the Shira building and wondered what he was looking for.
"All must be armed for that which is to come. The souled creation needs that which will allow all to hear." The echoing tonal voice startled the girl and the doll. Both looked at Cloud as he walked among the lockers. Wary but not willing to let him out of their sight, they followed.
When the blond reached the last row, he started testing the locker doors. He pulled out a couple potions and elixirs until he reached to second to last door. From the locker he pulled a beautiful gold and blue megaphone. It looked like it had been polished and cleaned before being put away. Cloud turned to the duo and walked up the Cait-Sith, "Remember, not every soul is human or monster and not every being is created by the goddess. Know that life is the path for all born or created."
Cait-Sith took the megaphone from Cloud and stared. Tifa was worried, she didn't know how Cloud would handle this latest episode.
Cloud woke from his trance and looked around the locker room. He was confused but satisfied. He guessed the feeling found what it needed.
Cait-Sith watched as his friends left. His creator had told all of them that many would not consider them living beings but that they were alive and that they had the right to live. Hearing the planet speak through Cloud was always an ordeal. Many times, it was advice or warnings but this one seemed to be a reassurance. Cait-Sith smiled; it was nice being told that you had a soul.
