Hiya everyone! I hope y'all are doin well. I know that the chapter updates are taking some time and I apologize for that. I've been pretty busy these last few months. We're getting do close to the chapters that I have lots of plans for! I also have been wondering what element I'll have Izuku gain next.
Chapter 18: Test Results
A week has passed since the exams and the fight between Izuku and Katsuki. During the week he has been training every day with breaks and food in-between each one. His research in finding a more modern fighting style has been interesting so far. Rengoku has agreed to contact a friend of his to see if they can train the boy as well. So far it has been a few days so he goes over what he alreadys knows.
His experiments with the electricity part of his quirk is going by leaps and bounds. He has gotten enough control of the amount of power to charge his phone without fear of blowing it up. The anticipation of the test results has made him train more just so he has something to do. Fire bending and flame breathing are also improving more than before. He can now use the first four forms of flame breathing perfectly.
-Midoriya Apartment-
Izuku stood in the center of his room looking at his father's blade hanging on the wall. During the week he put up a sword holder on the wall so that the blades wouldn't be on the floor or under the bed. The blade is so different from the one Iroh gave him and feels like the complete opposite of how the flame sword is. He noticed that when he holds the dark blade that it feels like it's almost vibrating. When he holds the flame sword it feels like it warms up.
'Why did dad leave me his sword?'
Before he could think about that longer his nother knocks on the door frantically. He can hear her talking but couldn't make out what she is saying. Opening the door he sees Inko holding an envelope with a worried expression.
"Izuku, your test results are here!"
After hearing that his eyes widen like dinner plates. He carefully takes the letter and looks at his mother. She nods and slowly walks into the living room to give him his space. Closing the door and making his way to the desk Izuku thinks about what the letter says. He tears it open only for a small projector to fall onto the desk. He stares at it with a surprised look. He checks the envelope for anything else and finds a small letter.
'Fancy...:
He thinks to himself. He pushes the button on the side of the projector and a hollowgram showing All Might appears. Izuku's eyes wide. at seeing his favorite hero all of a sudden. The man's smile basically shining as bright as the sun. His suit also being yellow makes him chuckle a bit.
"Hello young Midoriya! It is I, All Might in hallowgram form! All the faculty were impressed by your display of stacking up points!"
Izuku nearly fainted from hearing his idol say he did an amazing job. The only thing keeping him from falling over is the iron clad grip on the desk.
"With your interesting flame and lightening quirk you were able to take down a large number of villain bots, but that wasnt the only way to gather points. There are also rescue points that are added to the scores. With you saving the young woman by stopping the zero pointer, sixty more points were added! Welcome to your hero academia!"
The hallowgram shuts down leaving Izuku speechless. He stands up and raises both fists into the air with flames following after his arms and lets out a happy shout. Inko on the other side of the door knocks worriedly at hearing her son shouting.
"Izuku, baby are you okay in there?!"
Izuku opens the door with a wide grin. Inko sees the grin and tears fill her eyes while she throws her arms around him. They hug for a moment and then head to the living room to sit on the couch.
"I passed with a really high score on the physical portion with extra rescue points. The written part is also passed with an almost perfect score."
Inko smiles more with more tears falling down her face. She is shaking with excitement and slight fear for the safety of her son. Izuku places a hand over hers to calm her down.
"I'm so proud of you son. I know you've wanted this since you were little. Just don't do anything that will put you in too much danger."
The boy looks at his mother with a look of confliction. He wants to be a hero so that he can save people and help anyone he can. There is no doubt that he would definitely be in the way of danger at some point. He squeezes her hand to comfort her. She looks at him with slight fear.
"Mom, I want to be someone that can help people. Danger is part of the job. I will do my best so that you don't have to worry as much as you already are."
They share a hug as Inko almost squeezes the life out of Izuku. The crying that she is doing breaks Izuku's wall and he joins in on the water works. The Midoriya apartment is full of emotions that others in different apartments can hear.
-The Jasmine Dragon-
Izuku walks through the front door of the place where he learned to master his fire bending. The air in the building smells like all kinds of amazing teas. Iroh spots him and immediately sends a fire ball towards him. On instinct Izuku raises his hands and moves them in a circular motion to snuff the fire ball. The elder man and young boy stare each other down intensely.
A moment passes before they both smile widely and laugh out loud. Iroh comes out from around the bar table to greet Izuku with a pat on the back. They both take a seat at the table while Iroh gets a pot of tea ready.
"Its good to see you Izuku. How is the training going? Also how is your mother doing?"
Izuku waits for the tea to get ready. The smell of a fresh pot makes him smile happily. Iroh's tea is his favorite beverage of choice and he's glad that he taught him how to brew different teas.
"Thank you sir, its glad to see you as well. Tbe training is going pretty good. I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate my fire bending into a more modern fighting style. My mom is doing good as well though she is a bit worried at the moment."
Iron takes out two tea cups from the table and carefully pours the tea into them. He raises an eyebrow at the last part of what the boy said. Before serving the tea he takes two small honey combs snd drops them into each cup with a pinch of cinnamon. Offering the cup to Izuku he takes it happily and lifts the cup to his nose to smell it and lets out a satisfied sigh.
"What has her so worried? Have you been getting into trouble young man?"
The older man says jokingly. Izuku surpesses a chuckle before taking out the envelope he got from U.A. He takes out the letter and hands it over to Iroh, who takes it curiously. A monent passes and Iroh sets down the paper before capturing Izuku in a big bear hug while laughing with joy.
"You did it my boy! Congratulations, i knew you had it in you! We have to celebrate!"
Izuku hugs the man who taught him back while tears slowly slip down his face. He couldn't have gotten in if it weren't for everything that his teachers did for him. They stay like that for a moment longer before going back to their tea.
"I couldn't have done it without you or Mr. Rengoku. You guys made me stronger than I thought I could be."
Iroh has a tear fall down his face at hearing what the young man said. He looked at Izuku with the tears falling down his face as well. For a monent he saw his grandson Zuko standing in his place. Iroh smiles at the image before he sees Izuku again. The older man places his hand on the boys shoulder and squeezes a bit.
"I'm so proud of you Izuku. In so many ways you remind me of my grandson. You both strive to do what you believe in."
Izuku smiles softly at Iroh and nods his head. They drink their tea in a short silence while watching the younger kids in the training yard. The tea always made Izuku feel calm.
-Rengoku Estate-
Izuku stood in front of the gate of the Rengoku estate with his katana in hand. He can hear the footsteps of Kyan running towards the gate with a happy cheer. The little girl has basically become a little sister go Izuku whenever they see each other. Her quirk has come in a few weeks ago that allows her to control fire but not make her own.
"Izu, Izu! Look what I can do!"
Rengoku is running after her with a worried look on his face. In kyan's hand is a tiny ball of fire that looks to be flickering. Rengoku picks up the girl when she stops in front of the hate and the fire goes out. Izuku smiles at the display of father/daughter shenanigans.
"Good job Kyan! You're getting better at holding a flame. Make sure to be careful, it looks like you're going to give your dad a heart attack."
Rengoku lets out a light chuckle as he places Kyan on his shoulders and opens the gate. Izuku walks in and bows to the man. He bows back as they both walk to the house. Izuku is always amazed at the size and look of the Rengoku household. Kyan is singing a made up song while they make their way to the training grounds.
"What brings you here today lad? We don't have training till tomorrow morning."
The man asks with the same up beat attitude he always carries. Izuku smiles more at the man. The attitude is contagious and always makes the boy feel better. He takes out the envelope that he showed Iroh earlier that day. Rengoku raises an eyebrow just like the older man did. They make it to the training grouds and Izuku hands Rengoku the note inside the envelope. He takes a moment to read before his face ignites in a huge smile that shines brightly.
"You did it lad! The flames of hard work burn brightly in you! Did you tell Iroh?"
Izuku almost had to cover his face at the bright smile. He nods at the question and tries to cover a laugh at seeing Kyan play with Rengoku's hair.
"Yes, I was actually there before coming here. He did the usual surprise attack everytime he sees me. We had some tea and gave me a few pointers on my fire bending for more modern combat."
Rengoku nods with his wide grin. They stand in front of the training dummys with their blades in hand. Before they begin to train Rengoku looks at Izuku with a proud smile on his face. Izuku smiles back used to seeing the usual smile on the mans face. The man places a hand on the boy's shoulder and points at the blade with flames on it.
"Izuku, as a gift for your acceptance into U.A I will begin to teach you the fifth form of flame breathing."
Izuku is surprised to hear the Man say that. He told him that he would have to hone his skills as a swordsman to get a grasp of the fifth form. Even after he mastered the first four forms Rengoku had said he wasn't ready. He looks at the man with a wide smile and nods excitedly.
"Thank you sir. I will do my best to master this form like the others."
Rengoku nods as he makes a motion for Izuku to stand back. This is when the boy notices a bunch of training dummies scattered around the training field in different positions and areas. He watches as Rengoku gets into a high guard stance while raising his blade as if to perform the third form. He can hear the breath that the man takes before he whispers.
"Flame breathing, fifth form: Flame Tiger!"
In a dash that Izuku could only see because of the man's hair and cloak the man dashed through all the dummies. To Izuku it looked as if a tiger of flames had engulfed the man and went through all the dummies. He appeared at the end of the dummies in a crouched position while sheathing his blade. It appears that nothing happened at first but a few seconds later all the dummies fell into pieces on the groud. Izuku watched in shock at how fast the attacks landed without them looking like they hit anytning.
"Wow, that was amazing! It looked like you didnt even touch any of them witj your blade. That technique is so cool!"
Shouted an enthusiastic Izuku. He held up his own blade and looks at the man with awe. Rengoku stands up showing that same smile he always does. He walks back over to the boy and points at his blade.
"That blade belonged to my father before being passed down to me. Then I passed it down to Zuko who showed great promise. After his passing I left it as a gift for Iroh. It's your turn Izuku to show everyone what someone with great determination can do."
Izuku takes in the words and thinks about the weight of them. He nods at the olderman and raises his blade so that he gets into the same stance that Rengoku did just moments ago. This makes Rengoku grin as he points at his feet then at the position of his arms and hands.
"Your feet are too wide and your stance is too loose. Your arms are also too tensed and the hold of the blade is off. This isn't like the first four forms. This one requires you to think on the fly while you move."
The flaws being pointed out make the boy sweat drop. He could have sworn he copied the same stance he saw. He lets Rengoku correct his stance as he tries to dedicate every move to memory. The stance feels strange to Izuku as if his body is heavier. His legs feel too stable to move as fast as he saw Rengoku did earlier.
"Now when you move use total concentration to boost your muscles and speed so that when you go in for the attack you can cut away at anything in your way or what comes at you."
Rengoku says with his arms crossed and the same smile. Izuku nods as he takes in a steady breath. Then something feels wrong. The stance makes his sword feel like it weighs more than a boulder. He almost drops it but keeps it barely in his hands. Then he notices that his legs aren't moving at all even though we wants to. He pushes on through the struggles and begins to move.
Izuku bursts forward but doesn't get far as he stumbles into the ground and with the speed he had rolls for a couple feet. He holds his chest as it feels like his lungs are about to explode. Rengoku is at his side in an instant with a water bottle and slowly helps the boy into a sitting position.
"You did a lot better than I thought you would for your first try lad. I am very impressed."
That marks up chapter 18 everyone! I know the chapters are taking awhile to get out but I'll try to do better. I hope you guys are enjoying the story so far. Like I keep mentioning I have so many ideas for later chapters. please feel free to give me feedback, I would greatly appreciate it.
