As they continued to make their way back to Bella's apartment, the chilly night air nipped at their cheeks, but their hearts were warm from the evening's excitement. The streets were quieter now, the market's glow fading behind them, but the twinkling lights that adorned the houses and trees still cast a magical glow over the town. Edward carried most of their shopping bags, his arm looped comfortably around Bella's shoulders.

"You know," Bella mused as they walked, "I've always loved Christmas, but tonight just felt… different. It was really special."

Edward squeezed her closer, glancing down at her with a tender smile. "I know what you mean. I can't remember the last time I had a holiday like this. I've missed this feeling—being home, spending time with someone who means so much."

Bella blushed at his words, her heart fluttering in her chest. They finally arrived at her apartment, feeling the warmth and as soon as they stepped inside, Bella flipped on the fairy lights, instantly filling the space with a cosy glow. They set down their bags, and Bella began to unpack their finds, admiring each wrapped gift and sweet treat they'd picked up.

Edward chuckled as he pulled out the ridiculously large box of chocolate truffles he'd bought. "I might have to ration these if I want to fit into my uniform when I'm back on duty," he joked.

Bella laughed, tossing him a playful look. "You deserve to indulge a little. Besides, I'm more than happy to help you eat them," she teased, poking him gently in the side.

As Edward organised his gifts on the counter, Bella quickly slipped her secret package into a drawer of her sideboard, hiding it away until the right moment. She watched him from the corner of her eye, enjoying the simple pleasure of being together like this, doing everyday things that felt extraordinary simply because they were shared.

"Shall I put on some Christmas music again?" Bella suggested, moving to the small sound system in the corner of the room. She picked a playlist of soft, nostalgic holiday tunes that filled the room with a gentle melody.

Edward nodded, settling onto the sofa and patting the spot beside him. "Perfect idea."

Bella joined him, curling up beside Edward as they relaxed, listening to the soft hum of carols. She rested her head on his shoulder, feeling completely at peace. It was these quiet moments she cherished the most—the ones where nothing needed to be said because the comfort of each other's presence was enough.

After a while, Bella headed to the kitchen and lifted up the box of the hot chocolates they'd picked up at the market, along with some peppermint-flavoured marshmallows. "Hot chocolate time?" she suggested with a grin, wiggling the box.

Edward's eyes lit up. "Now that's a tradition I can get behind."

As Bella finished heating up the chocolate into some warm milk in a pan, she poured a generous amount into large mugs and sprinkled the marshmallows into them, and they clinked their cups together in a little toast before taking their first sips. The rich, sweet taste was the perfect way to end the evening.

As they settled back on the sofa, Bella couldn't help but feel a swell of anticipation. Tomorrow was Christmas Eve, and she knew it would be another day filled with joy and little surprises. But tonight, she was content just to be here, wrapped up in Edward's arms, knowing that the best gift of all was right beside her.

"So what would you like to do tomorrow? I've got a bit of prep work to do for Christmas day, and at 9pm there is a Christmas service at the church, just a short walk from here. It lasts until midnight and we all sing Merry Christmas and other carols" she smiles.

Edward smiled. "Tomorrow sounds perfect already," he said, his voice warm and relaxed. "I'd love to help you with whatever you need for Christmas Day. I'm pretty handy in the kitchen, you know," he teased with a wink.

Bella chuckled, her eyes sparkling. "I might just take you up on that. You can be my sous-chef."

"Deal," Edward agreed, enjoying the idea of spending the day together, even if it was just doing simple tasks. It all felt special because it was with Bella.

"And the church service," Bella continued, her smile softening, "it's kind of a tradition here. I've been going every year since I moved to this town. I love how everyone comes together; it's peaceful and kind of magical. We sing carols, light candles, have some refreshments— it just feels like the true start of Christmas."

Edward's expression grew thoughtful. "I'd love to go with you," he said sincerely. "I haven't been to a Christmas service in years. It sounds like the perfect way to spend the evening."

Bella beamed at his words, feeling a surge of affection. "I'm so glad," she said softly. "It'll be nice to share it with you this year."

Edward pulled her closer, his arm wrapped around her shoulders. "I've missed a lot of things over the years, but being here with you… it makes everything feel right. I'm glad I came home."

Bella snuggled closer, resting her head against his chest. "Me too, Edward. This is exactly where you're meant to be." She closed her eyes, letting the quiet, comforting moment sink in, knowing tomorrow would be just as wonderful as today had been.

With the gentle sound of Christmas music still playing in the background, Bella and Edward sat quietly together, dreaming of the day ahead and the glow of the twinkling lights made everything feel so beautifully right.

As they sat there in the soft glow of the Christmas lights, Bella turned her face up to look at Edward. His eyes were warm, his expression relaxed in a way that made her heart flutter. She could see the contentment in his face, and it made her feel a rush of gratitude that he had come all this way to be with her.

"Do you know what else we should do tomorrow?" she asked, a mischievous twinkle in her eye.

Edward raised an eyebrow, curious. "What's that?"

"We should bake cookies," Bella suggested with a grin. "I've got all the ingredients—flour, sugar, chocolate chips, the works. It's been a while since I've made a proper batch, and it would be fun to do it together."

Edward laughed softly, clearly liking the idea. "That sounds like a challenge I'm up for," he said. "Just be prepared for a mess. I don't promise to be a tidy baker. I may be clean usually, but baking is another story"

Bella giggled. "Messy is good. It's part of the fun. We'll make a whole day of it, baking, singing along to Christmas songs… maybe even dancing a little around the kitchen."

Edward's smile widened. "Now you're talking. I might not be much of a dancer, but for you, I'll give it my best shot."

Bella leaned closer, kissing his cheek, letting her lips linger just a bit longer. "I'd dance with you any day, Edward Cullen, even if you're good or bad" she whispered, her voice soft.

He turned his head slightly, catching her gaze. "And I'd hold you close every chance I get," he murmured back, his hand brushing a strand of hair from her face.

They sat like that for a moment, eyes locked, the world around them fading as the warmth of the season and the comfort of their closeness filled the room. Bella felt a swell of happiness; she knew she was exactly where she was supposed to be.

Eventually, they decided it was time to head to bed, knowing that tomorrow would be another day filled with laughter, joy, and the sweet simplicity of shared moments. As they climbed under the covers, Bella snuggled close to Edward, her head resting on his shoulder.

"Goodnight, Bella," Edward whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.

"Goodnight, Edward," she replied, her voice filled with a quiet contentment. "I can't wait for tomorrow."

With a final smile, they closed their eyes, drifting off to sleep in each other's arms, surrounded by the glow of the fairy lights and the promise of a perfect Christmas together.
