Into The Depths

Ash laid on the floor, still unconscious, but was jolted to consciousness by someone shaking his shoulder.

Misty: Ash, Ash, please wake up!

Brock: He's coming around..

Ash groaned and opened his eyes, spotting Misty, Brock, Cobalt, and Green looking worriedly at them. He felt like he had been run over by a Rhyhorn. And had he hit his head or was everything upside down?

Ash: What happened? There was this storm and people were running for the lifeboats…. Someone knocked into me…. Did we get off the ship?

Green: Well….. Define "Off the ship".

Ash: Wait…. Why is everything upside down?

Cobalt: That kinda leads to part 2 of our predicament.

He got up and ran to the window before Brock and Misty could answer. To his horror, he saw nothing but water and fish swimming outside.

Ash: Fish swimming?... It can't be! That means…that means the ship's sunk and we're trapped inside!

Meanwhile, Jessie and James were relaxing on a tropical beach, James having a smexy tan and Jessie sipping a Pinap Colada.

Jessie: To protect the world from devastation…

James: To unite all peoples within our nation.

Jessie/James: To denounce the evils of truth and love. To extend our reach to the stars above." they both said together.

Jessie: Jessie.

James: And James, with a sexy tan.

Jessie: Ah….. There's nothing like a tropical vacation.

James: The blue sea.

Jessie: And the white sand.

James: And that blazing sun…fiery and burning…and burning…burning… *pained* AHHH! Something really is burning!

The tropical beach disappeared and Jessie and James found themselves in the kitchen of the St. Anne, lying right under an upside-down stove. They saw Meowth's face right in front of them.

Meowth: You picked a bad place for a catnap!

Jessie and James ran out from under the flaming burners, yelling and trying to beat the flames off themselves. Finally, they managed to douse the flames with water that was coming out of a broken pipe. After sighing in relief, Jessie had realized something… troubling. That being they were walking on the ceiling.

Jessie: Why is everything upside down?

Meowth: The ship capsized and sank to the bottom while you two were sleeping!

James: *horrified* We've got to abandon ship immediately!

Meowth: I'm afraid it won't be so easy to get off while the ship's underwater!

James: AAAHHH! The ship's sunk! We're doomed! *sobs* I always thought I'd die this way!

Jessie: *shakes him* Calm down, James! I've already thought of a plan to get us out of here. Ekans! *realeses Ekans* Use Acid to make a hole so we can escape!

Meowth: Wait, no!

But it was too late. Water came through the hole and Jessie and James tried desperately to cover it.

Meowth: Didn't I tell you numbskulls we were sinking? We don't need any more holes on this ship!

A spout of water came through the hole, knocking Jessie and James into the air and filling the corridor. Trapped underwater, Jessie, James, Meowth, and Ekans tried to hold their breaths as long as they could.

—-

Back with our heroes, they had just exited the room they were in and encountered a stairwell, much of which was below water.

Ash: What do we do? The ship's leaking everywhere!

Misty: We've got to keep calm. As long as there's air in here, it'll take time for it to fill up with water.

Brock: Sure, but we better not waste any time escaping.

Misty: Well, we can either go up or down.

Ash: Well, if we're sinking, up would definitely be better. And if the ship is flipped upside down, the deck would be below us and the hull would be above our heads. If we dive down to the deck and there's a dead end, we're done for. But I'm not sure if we could break through the ship's bottom.

Misty: I know what to do. *takes out Pokeball* Go, Bella!

Misty released her fish Pokémon, who was given the rundown, much to her horror.

Misty: Bella, we're trapped aboard a ship and it's underwater. We need you to go down to the deck and see if you can find an escape route. If you do, come back and tell Ash.

Bella: On it. Stay there and be careful.

She then dived down into the water, searching for a way to get her friends to safety. Swimming through the corridors, she came upon a dead end and her heart sank. Suddenly she heard something behind her and turned to see Team Rocket floundering in the water. She gasped in horror, then pushed them to the surface, not about to let someone drown.

Ash: What's taking Bella so long?

Misty: *worried* Maybe she can't find a way out.

Suddenly, a blue face broke the surface and the group screamed in horror, thinking someone had drowned. With a hard shove, Bella pushed Jessie, James, Meowth, and Ekans out of the water.

Ash: It's Team Rocket!

Brock: They look terrible!... And they look like they almost drowned.

They coughed up water and started muttering their motto before turning to see the "twerps" looking down at them.

Jessie: You twerps again?!

Jessie and James grabbed their Poké Balls. Brock reached for Geodude's Poké Ball, but Ash stepped in between them.

Ash: Look, you guys don't like us, and we don't like you. But this isn't the time for fighting! We are aboard a sunken ship; do we need to make any more holes with a Pokemon Battle?! I don't know about you, but I don't want me, my friends, or my Pokemon to die!

Misty: I'm with Ash. If we want to get out of this ship alive, we need to work together.

Jessie, James, and Meowth glared at them but reluctantly nodded. Unless they wanted to die aboard the St. Anne, they didn't have much of a choice.

Jessie: This is just a temporary truce until we get off this ship.

Ash: Fine with me.

James: So it's agreed. We work together.

Suddenly, from behind Jessie, another Pokemon popped up; it was a blue blob-like creature with closed eyes and a black tail, saluting and randomly yelling out of nowhere.

?: That's right!

Brock: ….What the hell is that?

Jessie: I don't know. I got it at one of those booths earlier and it keeps popping out its ball by itself. And what's worse; *depserate* it won't leave me alone.

?: That's right!

In order to calm himself down and not panic, Ash took the time to get his Pokedex, scanning the new Pokemon in order to get his mind off of the cirrent events.

Pokedex: Wobbuffet, the Patient Pokémon. A Psychic type. If two or more Wobbuffet meet, they will turn competitive and try to outdo each other's endurance. They often reside in dark places in order to hide their tails.

Misty: Bella, did you find a way out?

Bella sadly shook her head, much to the other's chagrin.

Ash: So how do we escape?

Cobalt: We could use some Water types to swim out, but we need an idea of how the ship's built. Otherwise, we'll just run into dead ends until we drown.

Misty: Leave it to me. I built my own St. Anne once. *everyone stares* It was a model…. But it taught me about the structure of the St. Anne. Since the way to the deck is blocked, we need to travel to the bottom of the ship. We can cut a hole in the hull to escape.

Ash, Brock, the Pokemon, and the Rocket Trio looked around, wondering how they were supposed to do that.

Ash: At least it's a plan.

Luckily, Brock saw a staircase.

Brock: We need to get up there. Go, Onix!

His Rock Snake Pokemon came out, looking at Brock in confusion. Onix saw Team Rocket and his eyes narrowed. He started to go into a battle stance, but Brock stopped him.

Brock: Onix, we have a temporary truce with them because we've got a bigger problem. We're trapped aboard a ship and it's underwater. I need you to make a staircase to get us up to the next level so we can get out of here.

Onix looked incredibly worried, but nodded, stretching up and resting his head on the staircase. Brock, Ash, Cobalt, and Green hurriedly climbed up him. However, before Misty climbed up she yelled at Tea Rocket to follow.

Misty: C'mon guys, move it or lose it!

They nodded and followed her up.

Brock: Thank you, Onix.

Onix: *nuzzles* Be safe, Brock. Please be safe.

Brock couldn't understand Pokemon like Ash could, but after six years of being with Onix, he could read his starter pretty well.

Brock: It's alright, buddy, I'll be fine.

He reassured Onix, stroking his starter's head before returning him. After leaving the staircase, they entered a pitch black hallway.

Brock: The power's out; I can't see a thing.

Ash: Hold on; I'll get my flashlight.

Ash fumbled through his backpack until finally, he found his flashlight and turned it on, lighting up the hallway.

Misty: Thanks, Ash.

She was grateful that Ash had the foresight to pack a flashlight for his journey.

Ash: No problem. Where does this hallway lead us to?

Misty: This corridor leads straight to the engine room, where the hull is the thinnest. With a little luck, we should be able to cut our way through.

They did just that, careful not to step into a hole. However, when they stepped into the doorway, they realized the bottom of the room (actually the top) was on fire.

Brock: *frantic* Oh no! Now what do we do?" Brock asked frantically.

Ash: Calm down. Yami can fly us across.

He released his Gengar, who looked around in confusion, then saw the flames.

Yami: Ash, what the hell's going on? Did we die? *worried* Are we in Hell?! *points at Team Rocket* If they're here, it kinda proves we're in Hell.

Meowth: Hey, that is an extremely- Good point.

Cobalt: Yami, the ship sank. We need you to get us to the engine room so we can cut a hole in the hull to get out before we drown.

Yami looked even more worried, but he nodded, lowering herself so Ash could get on his back and flew him across, then returned for the others, even Team Rocket. Though Green didn;t need it as he simly climbed along with walls. The group entered the engine room, Yami behind them.

Ash: How do we get through the hull?

Brock: Maybe Aidan can melt a hole in the ship's hull or Cobalt can do it with Aura Sphere.

Ash: Brock, Cobalt's Aura Sphere doesnt have the direpower to melt us out and if the water puts Aidan's tail out, he'll die!

But then, he had an idea as he took out Aidan's Poké Ball and released Aidan, who smiled at Ash, then released he was inside an upside down ship.

Ash: Aidan, we're trapped aboard the St. Anne and it's underwater. I need you to melt a hole in the ship's hull so we can get out. Get on Green's shoulders so you don't get hit by the water.

Aidan looked frightened, but he nodded. Jumping onto the Grovyle's back, he used Flamethrower, cutting a hole in the hull. Misty turned to the others, grabbing some extra rope she had just found in the engine room.

Misty: Okay, here's what everyone needs to do. Strap onto a Water Pokemon and swim to the surface.

She tossed Brock Staryu's Poké Ball and took out Loki's as Ash took out Azula's as he recalled Yami, since Cobalt absolutely refised to go inside of his ball until he made sure Ash was safe. He wasn;t sure if the Sobble would be strong enough, but he had to try.

Jessie: But what about us? We don;t have any Water types!

Misty: You guys don't have Water Pokémon?

James finally remembered his newest Pokémon, taking out a golden Pokeball.

James: I have my Magikarp!

Jessie: I don't have a Water Pokémon!

Mewoth: Neither does Meowth!

Misty: *releases Starmie and Bella* Take Starmie and Goldeen, but don't try anything funny, or you WILL be on the receiving end of my Misty Mallet.

Wobbuffet: That's right!

Jessie: *returns Wobbuffet* Get in here, you!

Ash: It's almost burned through!

The hole broke through and water started pouring in. Green and Aidan moved closer to Ash and he quickly returned them, both of them telling him to be safe as they entered their Poké Balls. With no time to waste, Ash quickly released Azula.

Ash: Azula, the ship sank and I need you to get me to the surface.

Though the Sobble grew nervous, Azula nodded as her trainer tied a rope around her as he tied another rope around his and Cobalt's waists to keep them together. She knew Ash's life was in her hands, well weird toe things, and she would not let her new trainer down. The others did the same with their Water Pokemon. They all took a deep breath and held it as they jumped into the water that was pouring down, their Water Pokémon pulling them towards the surface.

Staryu, Starmie, Bella, and Loki quickly got their passengers to the surface. Azula, a small but strong swimmer, would have gotten Ash safely to the surface too, if a school of Tentacool hadn't suddenly slammed into them, not seeing the child, Lucario, and Sobble in their hurry. The first of the school hit them, sending Azula spinning and snapping the rope connecting him and Ash.

Azula: Ash!

Ash and Cobalt struggled to swim back to Azula, but another Tentacool slammed into them, knocking the rest of the air out of their lungs. Seeing both of them weren't going to make it, Ash untied the rope keeping them together, pushing the resisting Lucario away as he rocketed to the surface, gurgling screams directed at him. Water flooded into the boy's mouth and he began to sink. The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was a small wavered form, almost as if something was invisible….

—-

Back on the surface, Misty, Brock, Jessie, and Meowth had made it to the surface, standing on a giant platform floating on the waves as a makeshift raft. Misty and Brock watched antsy for anysign of Ash, only to see a bubbling spot and a form rise. However, it was Cobalt who gasped as he broke the surface.

Brock: Look, it's Cobalt!

Misty: Quick, pull him up!

The two ran over to the edge, each grabbing an arm and pulling the jackal up. After getting onto the radt, Cobalt coughed and hacked, shakily getting onto his back and lifting himself up with his arms.

Misty: Are you okay? Where's Ash? He should have made it to the surface with you.

Jessie: James isn't here either.

Meowth: I really hope they're okay.

But before Cobalt could point to the water, another smaller form rose to the surface. Much to their surprise, it seemed to be a floating rope tied round the air. As the rope climbed onto the raft, Cobalt hgasped, realizing what it was. He pulled on the rope, reaching into the water and pulling out an unconscious Ash.

Misty: It's Ash! So that rope…..

Suddenly, the rope began to waver, revealing a now visible Azula.

Brock: Of course, the Pokedex said Sobble turns invisible when it touches water. It had to be Azula!

Azula rushed over andclimbed onto her new trainer's chest a little more roughly than he had meant to, but the impact made Ash start coughing up the water he had inhaled, and he began breathing again. Jessie and Brock pulled James aboard and he coughed up water and opened his eyes.

Jessie: James, you're alive!

Misty and Brock ran over to Ash and Cobalt, hoping he was okay. Ash felt something nudge him. He let out a soft groan and opened his eyes, nearly jumping a foot in the air when he saw a big blue face inches from his own.

Azula: Ash, don't be afraid. It's me; it's Azula.

Ash: Azula? What? How?

Then he remembered. The Tentacool slamming into him, sinking, and the wavering form. Cobalt lunged at Ash and first punched him in the arm, then hugged him tightly.

Cobalt: Don't you EVER scare me like that again, you hear me!?

Ash gave a watery smile and hugged Cobalt tight, Misty and Brock joined the hug as well. wrapping their arms tightly around their friend, relieved that they were all alive and together.

Ash: Okay, with heartfelt reunions out of the way, what do we do now?

Brock: We need to get to some dry land.

Misty: *worried* But I see nothing but ocean.

Misty then got an idea as she then took out Alex's Poké Ball and released her Butterfree.

Misty: Alex, we need your help. Can you fly up and see if you can spot any dry land?

Alex: On it.

With that, he flew off, quickly disappearing into the distance. Ash grabbed a wayward paddle from what he assumed was from the ship's nautical display and beegan rowing in th direction Alex was flying. After releasing Green and showing he was okay, Misty Brock, Azula, and Cobalt joined the on one side of the raft and sat down. Jessie, James, and Meowth sat on the other. James's Magikarp went over to her trainer, but James glared at her, then pointedly ignored her, making Magikarp look down, hurt. Misty glared at James, then went over and sat next to Magikarp, petting her scales. Magikarp cooed, leaning into the touch. Now the only thing they could do was play the waiting game.

After a few hours later, Alex came back. By then, Misty, Brock, Jessie, James, Ash, Cobalt, and Meowth were asleep on the raft, Misty's arms around Magikarp, and Ash was asleep holding Azula while Green had taken a shift on rowing.

Alex: I can see some islands over to the west. I'm guessing they're several hours away by the distance.

Green: Awesome. Tell me where to go and I'll get us there.

Alex: *nods* Follow me.

He took to the skies again, though she remained in sight, and began to head west, while Green carefully turned the raft, following her. The movement woke up Ash.

Ash: What's happening?

Green: Alex was able to find land and I'm taking us there. Go ahead and go back to sleep.

Ash: *sleepily smiles* You guys are the best. If you get tired, take a break. I don't want you to….

Ash was asleep before he finished the sentence. Green chuckled and continued to row, following Alex and occasionally looking back at his trainer and hsi friends, just to make sure they were still safe.

Harsh, blinding sun in their eyes was what greeted everyone the next morning, this time being Cobalt the one to row the raft. As they traversed through the sea, Ash's stomach rumbled.

Ash: I'm really hungry.

Brock: It feels like forever since we last ate.

Misty: If I had known I was going to be starving, I would have stuffed my face full on the St. Anne!

As Ash and Brock dug through their packs for any food, Green was just seen kicking back as his leaves basked in the sunlight.

Green: I don;t know what you guys are complaining about, I'm perfectly fine.

Cobalt: Well, not all of us can photosynthesize, dear brother!

James: I want some food!

Jessie: Stop it!

Meowth: Yeah, your whining is making me even hungrier!

They suddenly started staring at Magikarp in hunger. Ash, Misty, Brock, and the others looked totally creeped out by their behavior as Azula sunk more into Ash, nervous.

Jessie: Like filleted carp.

Magikarp looked at her in horror.

James: Or fried carp.

Magikarp started backing away towards the water, terrified.

Ash: Knock it off!

Misty: Yeah, leave her alone!

Meowth: That's it! Dinner is now served!

Meowth then leapt forth, biting into Magikarp before anyone could stop him. Thankfully, he broke his teeth on her scales and she was completely unharmed.

Green: HA! You idiot! Magikarp have armor-like scales, they're impossible to bite through raw!

Meowth: *pained* Wish you told me that sooner.

Misty: *concerned* You okay, Magikarp?

Magikarp nodded.

Misty: She's your Pokemon and she saved your life! You're not supposed to try to eat her!"

Brock: She's your loyal Pokemon, not breakfast!

James: That stupid, worthless fish nearly drowned me! And not only can it not swim and not fight, it's not even edible!

Jessie: See, I told you it was a waste of money!

James: You good for nothing trout! I don't want to be your master!

James then kicked Magikarp and made her fly into the water. She began sobbing, shaking all over. Ash and Brock rushed over to her, trying to comfort her, but she didn't even register them in her hurt and sadness. Cobalt growled and glared at James, wanting to knock him into outer space.

Misty pulled out her mallet and smacked James in the head.

Misty: How could you do that to her?

Tears in her eyes, she started to walk over to Magikarp.

Misty: Oh, Magikarp…

James smashed Magikarp's Poké Ball.

James: Good riddance!

Cobalt: Wow, way to release with dignity. *mutters* Blue-Haired Himbo.

Green snickered at what Cobalt said, though Ash didn't mostly because he didn't hear. However….

James: I'm not a "Blue-Haired Himbo"!

James suddenly realized what he said and covered his mouth as the others looked at him in confusion, Cobalt and Green however looked in shock.

James: Just uh…. Heat syncope….

Cobalt: Did….. Did you just-

Green: We can question that later! *points* Look!

Magikarp glared at him, her sadness turning to anger, as she suddenly began to glow.

Misty: Oh no…

The Magikarp increased in size, causing everyone to back up as Magikarp rapidly evolved. Becoming a massive blue sea serpent. And boy, was she pissed.

Misty: Now you done it! Magikarp evolved into Gyarados!

Wobbuffet: *pops out* That's right!

Growing concerned, Ash scanned the serpent with his Pokedex, hoping to probably find a way to calm her down.

Pokedex: Gyarados, the Atrocious Pokémon and the evolved form of Magikarp. A Water and Flying type. Gyarados are prone to going on violent rampages that last for weeks to months on end. When it is angry, Gyarados won't stop unless it has destroyed everything in its surrounding area.

Green: Hey, listen! I know you're angry at your former trainer, and you have a right to be, but my trainer and his friends are here too. They stood up for you, they care about you, you don't want to hurt them!

Gyarados's eyes softened and she seemed to calm down a little, but then James stepped forward and had to screw everything up.

James: I'm James, your master. Obey me.

As Ash facepalm at the man's words, Gyarados glared at him with pure hatred, her rage quickly returning. She roared and James cowered in fear.

Misty: Now you've done it!

Gyarados began trembling and clouds formed overhead, blocking out the sun.

Brock: What's happening?

Misty: I've heard sailors tell stories about Gyarados. This must be Twister!

Cobalt: We have to get out of here! Now!

In the sky, Alex heard Gyarados's roar. Turning, he saw a Gyarados near the raft, this one angry and powering up a Twister. Screaming in horror, he rushed back to save his trainer and his friends, only for Misty to recall him.

Ash: Grab onto the raft!

He grabbed Misty's arm and pulled her down, clinging to the raft. Everyone else did the same and just in time as Green took the oar and Cobalt spawned a bone staff, the pair rowed as fast as they could. But Gyarados chased them, quickly gaining on them. Cobalt had no choice as he began powering up an Aura Sphere, hoping to distract her and buy enough time for them to escape. Green, who had handed the oar to Brock to attack had leat off the boat, hitting Gyarados with Iron Tail. Gyarados roared in pain and tried to hit him with a Dragon Rage, but Green easily evaded the blue flames, running along her back before flipping off her tail and back onto the raft.

Misty broke free of Ash's grip and ran to the back of the raft, facing the serpent.

Misty: Gyarados, please stop! Green, Cobalt, don't attack her any more!

Cobalt stopped his Aura Sphere and Green stopped back, though he readied a Leaf Blade just in case. Gyarados's attention turned to Misty, her eyes still showing anger.

Misty: Gyarados, I know you're upset and angry and you have the right to be, but this isn't the answer! I know how you feel. I've been put down and thrown away too…. But I found friends that were there for me. Let us be there for you.

This broke the hold the rage held over Gyarados's mind, and her mind flashed back to the kind red-headed girl that had sat with her and petted her as a Magikarp and how that girl and the raven and brown haired boys had defended her when her trainer had cruelly insulted her. Gyarados felt guilty that she had forgotten their kindness and came so close to hurting them. The wind surrounding her stopped and the clouds cleared, making everyone sigh with relief. Letting out a soft rumble, Gyarados leaned down to Misty and gently nuzzled her.

Gyarados: I am so, so sorry.

Misty: *pets Gyarados* Thank you, Gyarados.

Suddenly, the water began to bubble again and several wild Gyarados, angry about their territory being invaded and riled up by the Twister attack, burst out of the water. They all began shaking and the clouds reappeared overhead and the wind blew more strongly than before. After Ash returned Azula, Cobalt, Green, and Gyarados moved between them and the terrified humans, but there was no stopping the wild Gyarados. A massive water cyclone built up, headed straight towards them. Team Rocket was blasted off immediately into the cyclone. Brock and Misty grabbed onto Gyarados and Ash tried to return Cobalt, but the cyclone hit and Cobalt nearly flew off, both Ash and Green grabbing onto an arm to keep him from flying off.

Ash: Hold on! You're gonna be okay!

Cobalt: We both know I'm not gonna make it! Don't let anyone read my diaries. Burn them, Ash! They're embarrassi-

The Lucario then screams as the Hurricane hits again, causing Cobalt to be flung far off from them.

Green: COBALT!

Ash: NO!

He was nearly pulled away too, but Green grabbed onto him. However, several Poké Balls were torn from Ash, Brock and Misty's belts, and they tried to catch them, but couldn't, and could only watch helplessly as they were flung into the cyclone. Misty's grip on the raft slipped, and she was pulled away, screaming. Brock, Green, and Ash tried to grab for her, but missed. Suddenly, a blue tail wrapped around her waist, catching her before she could be thrown into the sea. Misty looked up to see Gyarados, who pulled her close and coiled around her protectively.

The Cyclone stopped as quickly as it began, and the group hit shallow water right next to an island. However, as they remained on the raft, Ash looked despondent, tears flowing down his face as Green collapsed to his knees as his eyes flooded, all hope being drained from them as he looked up at the sky, right where he saw his brother get carried off.

Green: …..Cobalt?
