Hypno Havoc

After winning the Rainbow Badge from Erica, our heroes forged their path to Ash's next gym battle, but first decided to make a pit stop in HopHopHop Town for Misty to compete in the local Water Pokemon Tournament.

Cobalt: So, this is HopHopHop Town. Wonder why it's called that.

Green: Better question; who could live here without laughing at the name.

Ash: Gee, it's like the buildings are closing in on us.

Misty: And they're so tall, we can barely see any sky. I wonder where the Water Tournament is.

Ash: Hey Brock, why is this place called HopHopHop Town, anyway? It's more like a city.

Brock: Well-

?: Arnold!

Suddenly, a woman rushed up to the group, hugging Ash tightly. The boy blushed heavily as he was pulled into the woman's chest, snuggling him close as the others watched in shock…. Or jealousy in some of them.

Brock/Azula: Lucky bastard.

Woman: *frantic* Where have you been, Arnold? Your father has been so worried!

Ash: Excuse me, but my name is Ash!

The woman then ooked down, realizing she was hugging the wrong boy and immediately releasing him.

Woman: Oh my, I'm so sorry!... But you look so much like my Arnold.

Ash: Huh?

Misty: What happened to him?

Woman: Arnold, my son…. He's missing…

The gang looked in shock, sympathy filling them as the woman escorted them to some place to sit so she could go further into detail.

Woman: My dear Arnold's gone missing. I haven't seen him for 3 days. I haven't heard a word from him since then.

Ash: Could he have gone off to be a Pokemon trainer?

Woman: He did like Pokemon, of course, but he never said anything about becoming a trainer.

Misty: Don;t you think he'd come home by now?

The woman only looked down, trying not to sob in front of them only to point at a nearby wall. On the wall, several missing posters of various young boys and girls.

Woman: See those posters? Those are of all the children that have gone missing in town for the past 2 weeks.

Misty: That many?

Ash: Must be a pretty dangerous town.

As the gang looked on, an officer similar to the ones they had met before came up to the wall, about to put up another poster. Confused, Ash comes up to her.

Ash: Excuse me. Are you the cousin or second cousin of the Officer Jenny in Cerulean City?

Officer Jenny: Actually, I'm her cousin's cousin.

Ash: Of course you are.

Brock: *blushes* This one's the most beautiful one yet.

Green: They all look exactly the same, you moron!

Cobalt: Actually Green, if you look closely, there are subtle differences between each.

Ash: *whispers* Really?

Cobalt: Yeah. For example, the Jenny in Cerulean has a deeper shade of red in her eyes than the one in Saffron. And the Vermillion Jenny's hair is a bit longer than the one in Pewter. This one's different though, not only does the HopHopHop Jenny have a different type of lipstick, but she's slightly shorter than the other Jenny's.

Azula: Wow, that's some analysis. How do you know so much of the finer details of a person?

Cobalt: It's a given when you can read people's aura.

Brock pulled Ash aside, Green catching him as he glared at the young teen as he flirted with Jenny.

Brock: It must be terrible searching for all these lost children. I would be very happy to help you in your search.

Officer Jenny: What?

Brock: We can both work together hand in han- AAAAAHHHH!

Brock then collapses, showing Coragunk was behind him and had hit him with a Poison Jab, where the frog like Pokemon drags him off.

Brock: Or… Maybe we should… Not resort to deputism….

Officer Jenny: I'd appreciate the help. But just don;t get in the way.

Ash rolled his eyes at Brock's antics, where he then sees both of his starters looking at the woman in empathy, tears seemingly brimming in her eyes.

Cobalt: Woah… That poor woman…

Green: Yeah… You know, Cobalt. The way she;s worrying about her kid. It kinda reminds me of…

Cobalt: Mom…. Ash, I know it's none of our business, but-

Ash: I know. And I agree, we'll help her.

Azula: But where do we even start? We don;t have a single lead.

Green: I dunno. *to Croagunk* Hey, Croagunk! You know anything about missing kids?!

Croagunk: ….. if I was lookin' for a lost kid, *walks off with Brock* I'd try the Pokemon Center.

Ash: The Center, of course!

Jenny looked to the boy in confusion of his outburst, only for Ash to look around nervously as he looked for an excuse.

Ash: Uh, I mean… Why don;t we try asking at the Pokemon Center?

—-

After Brock recovered from the Poison Jab, the team made it to the town's Pokemon Center, where Jenny questioned the children present on the missing kid rpeorts while Ash and Misty talked to the Nurse Joy, Croagunk making sure to keep his trainer in line while Cobalt and Green talked to the Chancey.

Ash: I bet you're related to the Nurse Joy in Saffron, aren;t you?

Nurse Joy: Well, you win that bet.

Cobalt: We're here about the missing child reports. Do you or Nurse Joy know anything?

Chancey: Sorry, dear. But I'm afraid we don't have any leads for you.

Ash: Please Nurse Joy, is there anything you can tell us?

Nurse Joy: I'd love to help, but I'm afraid we have out own mystery we're stumped with.

Misty: Why, what's wrong?

Nurse Joy: All of the Pokemon that have been admitted here have been acting rather strangely.

She led the group to the back of the Center, where a Cubone and Oddish looked severely ill as they lay on a table as Nurse Joy held a Magikarp in her arms.

Brock: That Cubone looks absolutely exhausted. And that Oddish's leaves are wilting a bit.

Nurse Joy: Even Magikarp isn;t moving and the only it usually does is splash. But now…

She set the fish on the table, where it simply fell onto its side, not moving a single inch. The group looked concerned as the woman then held up a feathery yellow Pokemon with a bill on its face as it clutched its head.

Nurse Joy: And this one has just been in horrible shape.

?: Ow, my head….

Ash: *takes out Pokedex* What is that?

Pokedex: Psyduck, the Duck Pokémon. A Water type. Psyduck suffers frequent headaches and can exhibit mysterious attacks when they become especially intense. If Psyduck lets the power out, the pain subsides for a little while.

Brock: So, what's causing this?

Nurse Joy: That's the thing, I have no idea. We' ve been having Pokemon admitted here in this condition starting 2 weeks ago.

Misty: 2 weeks ago? That's when all the children started disappearing, right?

Officer Jenny: I wonder if there's a connection between the children and the Pokemon's current status.

Green: Just as we get one piece of the puzzle in, another pops up. This is getting more and more mysterious.

Suddenly, the room filled with a strange ringing as Jenny reached into her pocket and pulled out a cell phone like device and looked at it, the beeping emanating from it as a wave similar to a heart monitor showed on the screen.

Officer Jenny: How peculiar….

Brock: *leans closer* I bet I know what that is. A handsome guy detector~.

Suddenly, he felt the gaze of his Poison type burning into his head, causing him to step back as he looked to Croagunk.

Brock: *nervous* I'll be good.

Officer Jenny: This is a REM wave detector. Lately, I've been picking up a heavy amount of REM waves.

Misty: "REM"?

Nurse Joy: Rapid Eye Movement. It's something that happens during sleep. But I don;t think there are any Pokemon that emit that type of wave in this Center.

Officer Jenny: You're right. It's coming from outside.

Azula: Hmm…. What if the REM waves and the Pokemon losing energy are somehow connected?

Ash winked at Azula, sharing the idea his Pokemon had in order to make progress on the case.

Ash: Just a thought, but maybe the REM waves have something to do with the Pokemon.

Officer Jenny: Yeah, maybe they could be connected. We need to find the source of the REM waves.

After leaving the center, Ash and his friends followed Jenny as she read her device.. She stopped them in front of a tall building.

Officer Jenny: It's coming from the roof of this building.

Brock: Alright then, let's go.

In the building, Jenny noted that as they rose, the signal seemed to be getting stronger, especially from the elevator. As the elevator stopped, they got out to see a large mansion on the roof, complete with hedges and a fountain.

Ash: What the- What is that?

Brock: A mansion on top of a skyscraper?

Officer Jenny: It's coming from inside there.

Ash: Alright.

He rushed ahead as the others followed, Cobalt placed a hand on the door, his dreadlocks rising as he glowed and closed his eyes.

Green: Well?

Cobalt: Someone's inside. We need to get in there.

Green: Right, everyone stand back! *repares Leaf Blade* I'm busting the door down!

Azula: Uh, here's an idea… What if we just check if the door's unlocked?

Green: ….*crosses arms* You guys never let me have any fun.

Ash opened the door forcibly, gaining the attention of what seemed to be a massive room full of wealthy aristocrats and two Pokemon sitting on a table, btoh of them being yellow with big noses; One having a brown lower body and the other having a white mane and holding a pendulum.

Pokemon 1: …Hey.

Pokemon 2: How's it going?

Brock: What is this place?

Ash: What's going on?

Man: Are you all new members?

Ash: Members?

Officer Jenny: We've been following a signal of REM waves and they led us here.

Man: "REM waves"?... Oh, I know. Our Drowzee and Hypno must be the cause of it?

Ash: *confused* Drowzee? Hypno?

He brought out his Pokedex, scanning the pair on the table, starting with the shorter Pokemon.

Pokedex: Drowzee, the Hypnois Pokemon. A Psychic type. Drowzee puts its victims asleep and uses this opportunity to feast on their dreams. However, they avoid people who have PTSD and chronic nightmares, since their dreams often make Drowzee sick.

Pokedex: Hypno, the Hypnois Pokemon and the evolved form of Drowzee. A Psychic type. Hypno holds a pendulum in its hand to amplify its hypnotic powers. The arcing movement and glitter of the pendulum lull the foe into a deep state of hypnosis. It is unknown what it uses to polish this pendulum.

Misty: So Drowzee evolves into Hypno?

Man: Yes, that would be correct. You see, our oldest Drowsee finally evolved 2 weeks ago.

Misty: *gasps* Two weeks ago?

Cobalt: That's when the disappearances started and the Pokemon started losing energy.

Man 2: We've been using Hypno's abilities instead of sleep medication.

Misty: What do you mean "we"?

Man: Why, members of the Tri-Regional Lodge of Pokemon Lovers.

Brock: "Tri-Regional Lodge of Pokemon Lovers"?

Man: Precisely. You see, all of our members absolutely adore Pokemon and Hypno has been our favorite. Drowzee evolving into Hyppno is the result of all of our hard work. Living our lives in the city can be rather stressful and all of our members suffer from either stress disorders or insomnia, so we've come to love Hypno's ability to lull people to sleep at night.

Ash brought out Psi to observe the phenomenon. Cobalt explained to them the situation as they watched the Hypno hypnotize a lodge member.

Hypno: Sleep… Deep… Sleep… Deep… Sleep… Deep… Sleep… Deep…

Ash: Hypno's psychic waves must be affecting the Pokemon a the center.

Man: Pardon?

Misty: Pokemon admitted to the city's Pokemon Center have been the victims of having their energy sapped.

Psi: Of course, it all makes sense!

Green: Really?

Psi: Hypno's hypnotic powers are mostly used on other Pokemon during battles. But now that the lodge members are altering Hypno's waves to work on humans, it is creating an adverse effect on the local Pokemon.

Brock: Maybe the wavelength is affecting the kids if they're sensitive to things like REM waves.

Ash: They can even affect humans that aren;t even near it.

Misty: *approaches Hypno* Let me see.

Hypno: Um… Okay then. *waves pendulum* Sleep… Deep… Sleep… Deep… Sleep… Deep… Sleep… Deep…

As Hypno hypnotized Misty, she didn't fall asleep as expected. She instead started clapping her hands, shouting "Seel, Seel!" over and over out loud, since that's what the other humans heard from her.

Officer Jenny: She's turned into a Seel from the REM waves!

Brock: *whispers to Ash* Ash, you can understand her, right? What is she…. Are you all okay?

The camera pans down to Ash and his Pokemon, who are all staring at Misty with Ash, Cobalt, and Green having their mouths agape, Psi covering their mouth in shock, and Azula staring in horror… Though this was interrupted as Green hissed in rage.

Green: DON'T YOU TALK ABOUT MY MOTHER!

He would've leapt onto Misty and eviserated her had it not been for Psi holdin him back with Psychic.

Cobalt: We gotta fix this before something goes wrong…. Or before I join Green in beating her to the ground.

Suddenly, Misty got off the chair and ran off, sprinting past the open doors.

Ash: Misty, where are you going?! Come back!

Ash, Brock, Jenny, Cobalt, Green, Psi, Azula, and one of the lodge men followed Misty down the building and eventually into a park, her clapping and shouting "Seel, Seel!" the whole way. Green shook it off as Cobalt covered his ears.

Cobalt: I'm a minor, stop!

Ash: Why is there a park this big in the middle of a city?

As they made it through a clearing, the group gasped as they saw Misty by a lake. Not only her, but other children were there as well, all of them with the same glazed look and acting as if they were Pokemon.

Officer Jenny: These are all the missing children!

Azula: That kid over there is somehow able to crawl up a tree without the use of his limbs…. I wanna learn how.

Brock: Pokemonitis.

Ash: Poke-what?

Brock: A classic case of identity dysphoria, where the victim believes they're a Pokemon. That new wavelength from Hypno made the children think they're Pokemon now.

Ash: And now, so does Misty.

Misty: *claps* Seel, Seel! Seel, Seel! Seel, Seel!

Green: Stop saying that, there are children present!

Brock: Why are they so mad? What'd she say?

Ash: I don;t wanna be too much of a pottymouth, but… She said-

Suddenly, a large truck horn could be heard, heavily overlapping what Ash was saying. However, by the horrified look on Brock's face, it was probably really bad. Officer Jenny tried to wake up a girl who thought she was a Magikarp, only to be met with resistance and for her to go back to splashing in a puddle.

Green: Great, she's brainwashed AND she's gonna get pneumonia.

Officer Jenny: It's just no use.

Ash: What do we do now?

Man: Say, I know! What if we use Drowzee's Dream Eater to cure the children?

Brock: Dream Eater?

Psi: That could work, actually. Dream Eater is a move that only works on sleeping Pokemon. If Drowzee were to use it on one of the children, it may reverse the effects.

Ash: Well, I think it's worth a shot, let's try it.

Back at the mansion, Misty is set back in a chair, still clapping and going "Seel, Seel!", but she has a handcuff connecting her ankle and the chair leg to keep her from escaping as Drowzee is set in front of her.

Man: Okay Drowzee, use Dream Eater on this girl.

Drowzee: Gotcha.

The Psychic type took a deep breath in front of Misty through its trunk as a pink mist enshrouds Misty and gets sucked up into the trunk. As the mist dissipates, Misty then slumps over unconscious.

Man: Good. Now use Wake-Up Slap.

Nodding, Drowzee walked up to Misty and hopped into her lap, getting closer to her face…. Before slapping her across the face and waking her up.

Drowzee: Wake up!

Misty: Huh what?! Where am I? What happened?... Why is my leg handcuffed to a chair?

Ash: Is she back?

Green: Only one way to find out.

The Grovyle walked up to Misty, unlocking her ankle to free her…. Only to then punch her in the stomach, making her keel hard.

Green: That's what you get for saying that shit about my mom, bitch!

Suddenly, Misty's eyes caught on fire with rage as she slammed Green on the hea with her Misty Mallet, sending him to the ground.

Misty: What the hell was that for, Green?!

Brock: Yep, she's back.

Misty: Huh?

Officer Jenny: Now all we gotta do is use Drowzee's Dream Eater on all of those kids at the park to turn them back to normal.

Cobalt: Alright, let's finish this.

The Lucario lifted the tapir onto his back as he and the others ran to the elevator, all the while Ash gave Misty the scoop on the situation.

Misty: I thought I was a Pokemon?

Ash: Yeah, you turned into a Seel.

Misty: And Green punched me… Why?

Ash: You weren;t in your right mind and said some…. Stuff.

Misty: How bad was it?

Brock: Well…. You said-

Brock's dialouge is overlapped, this time by a lodge member making a smoothie with a blender. As the sound ceased, Misty looked horrified and disgusted with her behaviour, looking at Cobalt and Green while feeling horribly guity.

Misty: I am….. Sorry is just not enough for what I said…. I… I feel dirty….

Brock: Same here…

Suddenly, they stop in their tracks as they look up. In the sky, they see three descending shapes coming right at them.

Brock: What's that?

Misty: Whatever it is, it's coming right for us!

Ash: You gotta be kidding!

Jessie: Prepare for trouble!

James: And make it double!

Rolling their eyes in annoyance, Psi simply shot a Thunderbolt at the three as they begun their stupid little motto.

Jessie: To protect the- What in the name of Dialga?!

The three are suddenly struck by the Thundebolt as their momentum was cut off, causing the three to fall to the guard, charred black and dazed.

James: *dazed* Note to us; Wait to do the motto until we're on solid ground….

Jessie: Forget that, James! Now is the time for action as we got to-

Ash: Let me guess; you have a plan to steal Drowzee and Hypno to use their hypnosis powers to make any Pokemon you want yours, all yours. *evil imitated laugh*

Meowth: *surprised* Wow, I can't tell if you're sarcastic or psychic.

James: Uh, guys… We have a problem.

James reached behind him, pulling out a now cracked mirror with several pieces missing.

Jessie: Dammit! Well, seems we'll have to go with plan B.

Both humans unfurled a whip as they both wrapped around a Pokemon; Jessie catching Drowzee and James catching Hypno.

Meowth: We got them! Now we'll just fly off with our catch!

James: This is much easier than the mirror plan. Why didn't we do this sooner?

Jessie: We have to fill 15-20 pages, you know.

Wobbuffet: *pops out* That's right!

As both tried reeling in the Pokemon, Ash grabbed onto Drowzee as Misty got out a Pokeball.

Misty: Hang on, Ash! *throws Pokeball* Harold, use Mud Shot!

Releasing her Wimpod, Harold nervously spat blobs of mud on the pair, covering their eyes and blinding them as they held tighter onto their whips.

Ash: Cobalt, cut the ropes with Metal Claw!

Nodding, Cobalt's paw spikes curved and turned metallic, slicing the whips and causing them to stumble back while Misty let out Loki, who had grown tired from the journey to HopHopHop Town.

Loki: What's happening, Red?

Misty: Loki, use Water Gun on them!

Ash: Azula, help him out with a Water Pulse!

Nodding, Loki fired a Water Gun at the group as Azula slammed her fist hard onto one of her water balloons, making it pop and fire a Water Pulse which collided with the Water Gun. This caused a huge collision, sending the four flying into the distance.

Harold: *sighs* Glad that's over….

Brock: Come on, guys. Let's go.

Nodding, Ash picked up Drowzee as he and the others followed Brock to the park, where the other children resided.

—-

After Drowzee snapped the children out of their trances and made sure they all went home, they took Drowzee to the Pokemon Center, where he managed to get the Pokemon being treated there back to their old selves.

Nurse Joy: The Pokemon are all back to normal, than you! How can I ever repay you?

Misty: Well… Would you mind telling me where the Water Tournament is?

Both Jenny and Joy looked confused at the girl's question, looking to each other, then to her.

Officer Jenny: The what?

Misty: The HopHopHop Town Water Tournament… You know, the tournament for the greatest water Pokemon trainers. The Super Rod?... The Lure Balls?... *holds up flyer* You had a flyer in Saffrom. I had to bring back my Tentacool to be prepared for any Pokemon I catch.

Officer Jenny: Flyer? Let me see that. *reads flyer* Oh….. Sorry, kiddo. But there isn;t a water tournament. This flyer was printed 10 years ago.

Misty: What?!

The girl read the flyer's publication date and just as she feared, it was printed 10 years in the past.

Misty: So….. No Water Tournament?

Nurse Joy: Sorry, sweetie. But I'm afraid not.

Officer Jenny: Not only that, but the very last tournament was held a decade ago. It was such a success, the prizes flew off the shelves and now they've run out of money for the Rod, Nugget, AND Lure Balls. From what I hear, the owner even dropped out of the Pokemon typ tournament business entirely. Yeah, I mean, why wouldn't he, huh? He's made his money.

Misty: So…. We came here for nothing?

Ash: That;s not true, Mist. Thanks to us, we solved a case none of the local police could and we reunited the families that suffered from the losses.

Cobalt: All in a day's work for *puts on sunglasses, tough tone* Cobalt Lucario; Pokemon Detective.

Loki however, didn;t find it funny as he climbed onto Cobalt's shoulder and took the sunglasses off him.

Loki: Gimme those back.

However, Nurse Joy sighed in grief as she looked to the Psyduck, causing Brock to smile and walk up flirtaciously.

Brock: What;s the matter, Nurse Joy? A beautiful woman shouldn't have too much to be sad about.

Nurse Joy: All of the Pokeon are better, but this one's still holding its head.

Brock: Leave it to me. Caring for Pokemon is the sole purpose of my life, the reason I exist.

Nurse Joy: Then maybe you can help it?

Brock: *nervously gulps* Uh…

—-

As they were leaving the city limits, Psyduck followed the group, clutching his head and muttering with every step.

Psyduck: Ow, my head. Ow, my head. Ow, my head. Ow, my head. Ow, my head.

Ash: Why is he following us? Why didn;t you treat him, Brock? You were the one that said, "Leave him to me".

Brock: But Psyduck is a Water type, I know next to nothing about those. Maybe you should take it from here, Misty.

Misty: Why would I know how to help him?

Sighing, Ash stopped and turned around, Cobalt and Green joining him as he knelt down to talk to the Psyduck.

Ash: Hey, I'm Ash. This is Cobalt and Green, I can talk to Pokemon. I couldn't help but notice how much you were saying your head hurt. Mind telling me what's going on?

Psyduck: Wait, you can understand me? Well, sorry to bother you, I'm fine… Oh, my name;s Perry, by the way.

Green: Okay then, Perry… Then if you're okay, why were you complaining about a headache?

Psyduck: I'm a Psyduck, we get headaches. It's our thing.

Brock: Well, what'd he say, Ash?

Ash relayed the information he had gotten to his friends, making Brock facepalm and Misty to stop and become fuming mad.

Misty: You mean this thing gets permanent headaches!? Ever heard of Tylenol- WOAH!

However, Misty accidentally tripped, causing a Pokeball to stumble out of her pocket and roll in front of the Psyduck. Curious, Perry tapped the ball, getting sucked in and immediately caught, making Misty gape at what happened.

Misty: I…. I caught it?

Ash: Good job, Mist. You got a new member of your party.

Misty: *groans* Now I have a headache.

Though disappointed at the news of no Water Tournament, Misty captured a new friend; Perry the Psyduck, and helped solve the mysteries plaguing the town of HopHopHop. Way to go, Misty.

Misty: Don;t congratulate me!

…Sorry.
