Crisis At The Corral
After filling Brock in on the last fre days and the group returning to the Ketchum residence, Brock and Misty had stepped in to help Ash with his training for the incoming Pokemon League. Harold had become a real help with defensive training due to his armored body and Loki had helped with having Ash's members keep their awareness up.
Ash: Alright, everyone, I think that's good! Take 15!
Nodding, the Pokemon scattered across the yard, some relaxing along the grass while other like Yami decided to head inside the house. Though Cobalt and Green stuck close to Ash as he, Misty, and Brock treated themselves to a small lunch while Brock had given everyone a serving of his famous Poke Chow.
Green: *while eating* Ah man~, I forgot how much I missed Brock's recipe!
Cobalt: Same here!
Misty: Seems like your team has really been kicking it into overgear, Ash.
Ash: Yeah. Thanks for the extra help, guys, we really appreciate it.
Brock: Anytime.
Misty: So, your mom really tried to take over your gym?
Brock: Yeah, she just decided to barge in and make it a Water-type gym, even though Kanto already has one! I was about to call the League about it when I decided that a battle was the only way to make her listen.
Ash: Wow. So did you use Bulbasaur?
Brock: That would've been the right move, but the only way I could get my point across was to show Rock-types could beat Water-types no problem, so I wnt with Onix.
Misty: woah, and you won?
Brock: Well… I did win, but technically, not with Onix. It's better if I show you guys.
The teen then proceeded to walk out into the yard and throw a Pokeball, opening it to reveal a large serpent of grey orbs lined with spines and a shovel-like head with red eyes and a large jaw. The serpent let out a low roar before looking around, realizing it wasn't in a battle.
Green: Holy- What is that?!
Ash: *scans Pokemon* That's a new one….
Pokedex: Steelix, the Iron Snake Pokémon and the evolved form of Onix. A Steel and Ground type. Strengthened by the pressure and intense heat of living underground, its body has become harder than diamond.
Cobalt: Wait, that can;t be the Onix we know, right?
Steelix: *teasing* Really, you think so? I thought you'd remember using that Counter on me during our first battle so long ago.
Cobalt: *smiles* That's you, alright! Look at you, dude, you evolved! And you're a Steel-type now!
Ash: That's really awesome, Brock! But how did Steelix evolve?
Brock: When I got back to Pewter, my younger brother Forrest gave me a Metal Coat he found as a welcome home gift. So with one quick trade back and an intense battle, Onix evolved.
The others looked in amazement of the large serpent, even Kestrel as Azula handed him a Chow Pellet, this being Kestrel's first time eating solid food. The little youngster took the pellett and chewed, smolong at the taste.
Azula: Did you like it, honey?
Kestrel: Mm-hmm! It's good, Momma.
Azula: *smiles* I'm glad for you.
Aiden: Wow, Kestrel's really gone a long way. It seems like only yesterday I found his egg and now he's managing to talk in full sentences.
The Togepi then leapt out of his mother's hold, wandering over to the Steelix as he spoke to Bulbasaur. Kestrel then tapped Steelix on one of his lower balls to get his attention.
Kestrel: Excuse me, Mister?.. Can we have a battle?
Steelix: *shocked* Uh… A battle? Like… BATTLE battle?
Bulbasaur: Aren;t you a bit young to want to battle?
Kestrel: Well, what about you? Do you wanna battle?
Bulbasaur: *flustered* Uh, well.. I…. Uh…
However, Bulbasaur sighed in relief as Ash picked up Kestrel, much to his chagrin.
Kestrel: Hey, let me down!
Ash: Settle down, Kestrel. *to Bulbasaur* I'm sorry, Bulbasaur. Ever since he saw Green's battle with Arthur, Kestrel's been wanting to train and battle with the others. But unfortunate;y, he's a bit too young.
Kestrel: *whiny* But Ashy, I wanna battle! I wanna, I wanna, I wanna!
Aiden: Geez, is this how I acted when I was a Charmeleon?
Azula: No, you were much worse. Trust me.
Green: Why not just let Kestrel battle?
Azula: Uh, hello? He's a baby!
Green: But he;ll never get better if he doesn;t train. Besides, Cobalt and I started training when we were in our first few months. Albeit, it was a few months later than Kestrel is now, but you get the idea.
Azula: Hmm….. *unsure* Cobalt?
Cobalt: Hey, I'm just as worried as you, but… Green's right. Kestrel won;t learn if he doesn;t try. If he thinks he can do it… *confident* I say we give our boy a shot.
Ash, hearing this, nodded his head as he scratched Cobalt behind the ears before giving a reassuring hug to Azula. He then turned to Misty and Brock while setting his Togepi down.
Ash: Guys, Cobalt gave the okay for Kestrel to practice battling. Would either be our sparring partner?
Brock: I can, we haven;t battled in a long time.
Misty: Good luck, Ash. *to Kestrel* And good luck to you too, little cutie.
She tickled the Togepi's chin, which caused his to giggle as Brock threw a Pokeball, releasing his Krabby, who was revealed to be named Neptune after Ash and he spoke the night Brock and Misty returned with them.
Brock: Okay Neptune, this'll be your first battle, along with the little guy's, so do your best… *awkward* But try not to massacre him.
Neptune: *clicks claws* Roger.
Ash: You got this, Kestrel. Let's do it.
Kestrel: Violence! WOOO!
Psi then teleported in between them, backing up as they raised their arms.
Psi: I shall referee this battle. This will be a 1-on-1 battle with no substitutions. Battle…. NOW!
Brock: Youngest goes first here, Ash. Both trainer and Pokemon!
Ash: Alright, then. Kestrel, use Fairy Wind!
The Togepi took a breath before exhaling, a pink, sparkling fume leaving his mouth and about to strike the crab.
Brock: Use Harden, then Bubble!
Neptune shone as he hardened himself, the wind not hurting as much before he then blew a flurry of bubbles at Kestrel, who sputtered and rubbed his face as they impacted.
Ash: Are you okay?
Kestrel: More, more, I want more!
Ash: Alright then. Use Metronome!
Psi: Huh? Metronome already?
Kestrel then waved his hands back and forth as his fingers glowed before running forward. As Azula gasped in fright, a pair of dripping purple fangs ford in front of her son;s mouth, which bit down on the Krabby.
Misty: That was Poison Fang!
Brock: Neptune, Leer!
Ash: Use Charm!
As Neptune leered at Kestrel, the baby surrounded himself with pink hearts, spread his arms out and made a cute face, both of them lowering their stats simultaneously.
Brock: Neptune, Crabhammer!
Ash: Headbutt!
Neptune's pincer glowed as he smashed it into Kestrel, who countered with a headbutt, but was ocverpowered as he was knocked over, making Azula glare at the crab.
Ash: Use Metronome again!
Kestrel waved his arms like before, this timelaughing as several blue lightning bolts escaped his body and struck Neptune, small sparks coursing over his body to show he was paralyzed.
Brock: Now Kestrel used Discharge!
Green: *disgusted* GROSS! He used a move called… "Discharge"?
Cobalt: Dude, get your head out of the gutter.
Ash: Now, Kestrel, one more Headbutt!
Brock: Hurry Neptune, Harden!
The crab couldn;t harden himself in time as Kestrel headbutted him once more, knocking him over and fainting him.
Psi: Neptune is unable to battle, the winner is Kestrel!
Kestrel: *cheers* Yay! I did it, I did it!
Ash: *chuckles* Yeah, you did.
Aiden: Uh, guys? You might want to look at this…
The group looked over to see Brock beginning to heal Neptune before he suddenlybegan to glow. Brock set him down swiftly as Neptune grew larger as the light faded, revealing him to have a jagged lower jaw, crown-like spikes on his hea,d and a left pincer larger than his right.
Misty: Woah, Neptune evolved into a Kingler!
Brock: Well, what do you know?
Ash: *takes out Pokedex* So that's Kingler…
Pokedex: Kingler, the Pincer Pokemon and the evolved form of Krabby. A Water type. Kingler's larger pincer has immensely powerful crushing strength, enough to crack the shell of Cloyster. However, when not in battle, the pincer only gets in the way.
Brock smiled as he knelt down, petting the head of his newly evolved Kingler and getting the crab's Pokeball.
Brock: Neptune, you did amazing. *returns Neptune* Now take a breather.
Green: Woah… That kid's pretty good. But why is that a surprise? *elbows Cobalt* It's your kid, after all.
Cobalt: Yeah, yeah. I hear you. But still, Kestrel's got skill.
Aiden: So Ash, now that the battle's done, what do we do now?
Ash: I was hoping we could head over to Professor Oak's lab, that way we can get more information on the Pokemon League.
Misty: Wow, that's… Actually smart of you, Ash.
Ash: *smirks* You doubted me?
Misty just rolled her eyes and playfully pushed Ash as she returned Harold while Brock and Ash returned the rest of their teams, save for Ash's starters, Azula, and Kestrel as they went into the house to get Yami and head off to Professor Oak's laboratory.
—-
The group walked over to the edge of Pallet Town, going up the large set of stairs to reach a large yellow building with a crimson roof, several windows, and a wind turbine behind it. Ash then rings the doorbell, eliciting the man's voice to call out from inside.
Prof. Oak: Come in!
Ash: *opens door* Professor Oak! It's me, Ash!
The old man came out from another room, walking up to the small crowd.
Prof. Oak: Oh, what a surprise. It's nice to see- AN INTELEON!
The man quickly pushed Ash out of the way, getting close to Azula as he then studied her.
Prof. Oak: You never told me Azula evolved to her final stage! I've only seen pictures of this Pokemon!
Ash: Uh… Glad you like her.
Prof. Oak: Oh, pardon me and my excitement. Come in, come in.
?: Hold it!
The group suddenly stopped in their tracks as a young green-haired teen with a red headband rushed over to them.
?: Sorry, this will only take a second.
The young man then proceeded to look over Ash's Pokemon, along with Loki. He watched Green wave his tail a bit as he then picked up one of Cobalt's dreadlocks and let it fall back down, where he then proceeded to sketch something on a pad. Behind the man was a small blue spherical Pokemon resembling a mouse with red ears and a jagged tail that ended with a blue ball.
?: Your Lucario must be really strong. Its fur is nice and shiny and his eyes seem high and alert. And your Sceptile seems to be in top condition as well, I can tell with how green its skin is and the size of its back orbs… But it could stand to loe a few pounds.
Green: HEY!
?: And the shell of this Squirtle is really shiny and smooth.
Misty: Oh um…. Thanks?... Who exactly are you?
?: *flustered* Oh, uh… How rude of me. My name is Tracey. *gestures to mouse* This here is my partner, Marill.
Marill: Nice to meet you all!
Ash: *takes out Pokedex* Marill?
Pokedex: Marill, the Aqua Mouse Pokémon. A Water and Fairy type. Marill's sensitive ears can detect distant sounds and the round buoyant sphere on its tail allows it to remain steady against the strongest of water currents.
Tracey: You see, I'm a Pokemon Watcher, I observe and sometimes sketch Pokemon I see in the wild. I was attracted to the great Professor Oak's ranch to study the Pokemon he held here and lo and behold…
Prof. Oak: I have a new assistant.
Brock: Wow, that's some promotion.
Prof. Oak: you know, Ash, it just so happens you're not the first trainer to come by my lab today.
Though Ash was confused by this, the man led them to a small den, where Gary sat on one of the couches with a cup of tea, smirking as he spotted Ash.
Gary: Well now, if it isn;t Ashy-boy…
Cobalt: Oh Arceus why?! Not him!
Gary: I'm not surprised you showed up late, I'm surprised you actually showed up at all.
Prof. Oak: Now now, no need to fight. Can;t Pallet Town's top 2 trainers learn to get along?
Ash/Gary: Top trainers?
Prof. Oak: You see, on the day you all left for your journey, 4 Pokemon trainers left Pallet Town. The other two got a promising start, but they unfortunately fell from grace.
Ash: *sits* Oh, well… That's sad.
Tracey: Unfortunately, that is just how it works. While Gary may have 10 badges, Ash, you have 8. That's truly remarkable.
Ash: Well, thank you, but… I can;t take all the credit. My Pokemon really did all the work.
This however caused Cobalt, Green, and Azula to disregard the statement, hudling close to him to assure he truly did deserve the credit. However, a familiar Rotom floated into the room, levitating another tray of tea.
Prof. Oak: Speaking of your Pokemon, seems your Rotom just came back with refills.
Sparky: Ash! Good to zee you guyz!
The Plasma Pokemon set the tray down and zipped to his trainer, greeting him by waving his small lightning-bolt shaped limbs, which caused Ash to smile.
Ash: Hey, Sparky. Long time, no see.
Azula: You seem to be getting along just fine.
Gary: So, that little guy's yours, huh? I was wondering where it came from when I came back to the lab.
Ash: Yeah, I caught Sparky at Pokemon Tower, I just thought he'd like a nice home… Hey, uh… How's your arm?
Gary: Fine. Just fine. Kinda sore, but that won't stop me from competing in the League.
Prof. Oak: Speaking of which, it's about time you two started training for the incoming Pokemon League.
Gary: so, Ashy-Boy… Do you even know where the Pokemon League's being held?
Misty: Actually, that's why we were here.
Ash: I know it's at some place called the Indigo Plateau, but I don't exactly know where it is.
Prof. Oak: It's west of Virdian City, starting exactly 2 months from today where 200 individual trainers will be competing.
Cobalt: 200?!
Green: 200 or 2 million, it doesn;t matter! We're gonna win, right Ash?!
Ash chuckled, patting the head of his Sceptile as Oak kept speaking.
Prof. Oak: You and Gary should take this time to train your Pokemon and make sure they are ready for the tournament.
Gary: He can try, but Ash might need a YEAR in order to barely get to my level.
Ash: Gary….
Gary: Look, I ain;t sayin you're a bad trainer, Ash. If you got the Earth Badge when I couldn't, that's proof enough, but you just don;t have what it takes to beat me.
Ash: We'll see about that.
Gary: So… You're fine with how your Rotom is?
Ash: Sparky's fine the way he is. And so's Blacky.
Gary: Who's Blacky?
Prof. Oak: That would be Ash's shiny Umbreon. He asked me to bring him to his mother.
Gary: *surprised* Wait, you have a Shiny?! Doesn;t matter, anyway if you go with the same 6 you've had before.
Ash: …*frowns* What's that supposed to mean?
Gary: I rotate my Pokemon so they all get to battle and gain experience. Good trainers have to be smart enough to let ALL of their Pokemon grow and be the best they can be.
Misty: Just for the record, not every Pokemon likes to battle! Like Sparky, he's been here assisting the professor!
Brock: And Blacky's been keeping Ash's mother comapny while he was gone. Besides, I think Ash's team is fine. Besides Kestrel, all of Ash's main team is fully evolved.
Gary: So, you think the promise is in the pudding, eh?... Alright. Hey, Gramps, why don;t we show these guys the corral containing all the Pokemon I caught?
Prof. Oak: *nods* Of course. Tracey, would you mind watching the lab while we are out?
Tracey: *nods* Not at all, Sir.
Oak then got up as he led the group out the back to a massive field fuilled with various Pokemon. Sparky had decided to follow them out, stretching his limbs as they zipped around to chekc the sights.
Prof. Oak: Most of the Pokemon in my corral belong to Gary, since he has over 200 individual ones.
Ash: 200 Pokemon?! That's practically all of Kanto's Pokedex caught twice!
Gary: The more Pokemon, the better; that's my motto.
Misty: *annoyed* Well, you may have more than Ash, but I bet you're not friends with all of them.
Gary: Friends?
The younger Oak then looked over, seeing Ash sitting on the ground and playing a little with Kestrel as Green rested alongside him, playfully nibbling on his head and causing Ash to chuckle and playfully bat him away.
Brock: Ash has been with his main 6 for a long time. Not only are they his strongest, but they're also the most loyal. He has an amazing way with them, you know. To him, training is about teaching them what he knows.
Prof. Oak: You two have very different but very valid views on training Pokemon.
Gary: Gramps?
Prof. Oak: On your journeys, Gary, both you and Ash have caught many different Pokemon. And as such, due to your different personalities, you learned to understand and care for them in different ways.
Ash: *approaches* Yeah, I can agree with that.
Gary: *sighs* Yeah, same here.
Prof. Oak: Pokemon are special and as such, they need our special care. Just like any other living creature, they deserve our consideration and love. If we care for our Pokemon like how we care for our loved ones, we'll be able to live in peace as we learned about them and ourselves.
Misty: Wow… That was really touching.
Loki nodded as Misty picked him up, keping him close as Sparky zipped back to Ash and nuzzles his cheek.
Brock: With this type of field, you must be excited to get to learn about lots of different Pokemon, Professor.
Prof. Oak: Yes, living here sure gives me an amazing opportunity to research and communicate with many different Pokemon.
Just then, a two headed bird covered in brown feathers and possessing heads on two long black necks approached Gary, causing him to pet one of the heads, then the other.
Gary: Hey, Doduo. How are ya today?
Dodua Head #1: Hi, Gary.
Dodua Head #2: We're just fine.
Ash: *scans Doduo* So this Doduo is your's?
Pokedex: Doduo, the Twin Bird Pokemon. A Normal and Flying type. Doduo's two heads take turns sleeping, so one head can always keep watch for enemies while the other one sleeps.
Prof. Oak: Exactly. See how Gary's Doduo isn;t acting exactly like him? This would be because even though Gary rotates, a good number of his Pokemon stay here. This is true with other trainers that possess a strict 6 member limit, which is how some Pokemon are more attached to me.
Misty: But look at all of the Pokemon here. I bet you have all of them.
Prof. Oak: Not quite, Misty. See, there are plenty of other Pokemon out there that have never been caught or even seen.
Brock: Yeah, originally, old people in Kanto thought there were only 150 Pokemon. But Pokemon like Cobalt, Green, Harold, and Croaunk blows that theory out of the water.
Ash: Actually, on my first day as a trainer, while that Pokemon tribe was taking me to the hospital… I saw a Pokemon I've never seen before in the sky flying over a rainbow.
Gary was about to question what Ash just said, but the Professor placed a hand on his grandson's shoulder, shaing his head at him. Now wasn;t really an appropriate time.
Prof. Oak: It truly is a mystery, no one really knows how many Pokemon there are. Finding new and different Pokemon is a quest all on its own.
Gary nodded as he turned back to Ash, noticing how friendly he was with his Pokemon. The sight brought Gary back to the Viridian Gym, where when he begged Ash not to battle there, he did so anyway and even won. This did a lot for Ash in Gary's eyes, showing him how brave his rival truly was.
Gary: Hey, Ash. What do you say we have a Pokemon battle?
Ash: A battle? Now?
Gary: Yeah, we obviously need the practive for the League and I wanna see how your your team fairs if they managed to win you the Earth Badge.
But before Ash could respond, a huge explosion is heard before everyone looks to the distance.
Brock: What was that?
Prof. Oak: That explosion came from the electric type preserve. Let's go!
Ash led the group as they went over to the sight of the explosion, Sparky following swiftly behind. As they make it to the preserve, they see multiple Voltorb and Electrode in a massive net, which is being pulled by a machine. However, what really caught their attention were the people manning the operation, this being Cassidy, Butch, and Cassidy's Sableye, who now wore an Amulet Coin around his neck with a string.
Cassidy: Come on, already! We gotta move if we're gonna give the new boss these Pokemon!
Butch: Don;t rush me! These things are surprisngly heavy!
Sableye: I kept trying to warn him not to throw out that gym set Doug got him for Christmas last year, but noooooooo.
Ash: Hey!
Cassidy: Huh? *growls* It's that kid and his friends again.
Cobalt: These guys again? Huh, I guess James really meant it when he said he quit.
Ash: Team Rocket! What are you doung here?!
Cassidy: What do you think?
Butch: We're obviously pilfering Pokemon here, so scram before you get hurt!
Sableye: Or allow yourselves to get hurt. Just an option.
Ash: *angered* First our egg, now this… You're not getting these Pokemon!
Cassidy: Well then.. Seems we have to do things the hard way.
Butch sneered as he got out a pager similar to Jessie's and pressed a button. Suddenly, an Abra teleported into the area, its hand touching another prize machine like the one used in Ash's last battle before the Abra suddenly disappeared.
Misty: It's that thing again.
Cassidy: Got that right, Girly. Behold, the Rocket Prize Master! Sableye, do your thing!
The Darkness Pokemon nodded before inserting the coin around his neck into the coin slot and turned the dial, where the machine then dispenses two Rocket Balls from it as the two pick up one each.
Butch: Now, let's see who you'll fall under!
Both threw the Pokeballs as Cassidy's ball released a large magenta centipede with jagged horns, four large legs that supported it, and claws all over the front of its body.
Cassidy: The Megapede Pokemon, Scolipede!
And just like Cassidy's ball, Butch's opened to reveal a lavender bipedal bulldog Pokemon with an intimidating glare and large fangs protruding from its bottom jaw.
Butch: And for mine, the Fairy Pokemon, Granbull!
Brock: *cringes* Sure doesn;t look like a fairy.
Shocked at the two new Pokemon, Ash scanned the two with his Pokedex, hoping to get an idea of what to do.
Pokedex: Scolipede, the Megapede Pokémon. A Bug and Poison type. Scolipede catches its opponents with great speed and attacks using horns on its head. It then keeps the opponent in its claws to finish with a deadly poison.
Pokedex: Granbull, the Fairy Pokémon. A Fairy type. Granbull has a particularly well-developed lower jaw. The enormous fangs are heavy, causing the Pokémon to tip its head back for balance.
Ash: Alright, so a Fire type and a Poison type are the best choice here.
Gary: I'll help, too.
Ash: Gary?
Gary: This is my ranch too, Ash. Plus, I'm not letting these goons steal anyone else's Pokemon. Need a Poison or Fire type? You got it. *throws Pokeball* Go, Nidoking!
Gary's ball released his Nidoking, who let out a large roar as it glared at its opponents. As Ash was about to release Aiden, Sparky suddenly zipped forth, taking a battle stance.
Ash: Sparky?
Cobalt: Dude, what are you doing? I thought you weren't a battler.
Sparky: True… But theze goonz made one fatal miztake… They mezzed with my paradize! I want in on ztopping them!
Ash hid his ability from Gary and Professor Oak, but he nodded in understanding, much to Gary's shock.
Ash: Alright, Sparky. Do your best.
Gary: you're using your Rotom!? But it hasn;t even battled before!
Ash: It doesn't matter. Sparky wants to help, he can help. *takes out Pokedex* I believe in him,
Pokedex: This Rotom is level 39, Male, and has the ability Levitate. It knows the moves, Thunder Wave, Hex, Charge Beam, and Confuse Ray.
Cassidy: Alright, no more fooling around! Scolipede, use Megahorn on that little spark!
Butch: Granbull, use Ice Fang on Nidoking!
Gary: Nidoking, counter with Dynamic Punch!
Ash: Sparky, dodge the Megahorn and use Charge Beam!
As Nidoking's fist countered with Granbull's ice covered jaw, Sparky quickly dodged away from Scolipede's glowing green horns as he then fired yellow beams of electricity from his eyes.
Ash: Alright, now use Thunder Wave!
Cassidy: Deflect with Poison Tail!
Sparky sent out a wave of electricity, which was dissipated by the Megapede's massive glowing tail spines. All the while, Gary and Nidoking were trying to fend off Butch's Granbull.
Gary: Now Nidoking, Poison Jab!
Nidoking's fist glowed light purple as it then punched Granbull in the stomach, only for it to resist and not succumb to poison.
Butch: Alright Granbull, use Double Kick!
The canine kicked Nidoking twice across the face and knocked Nidoking back. However, as Granbull landed, it flinched as it gained a purple blush.
Butch: What the- How?!
Gary: Smooth move, idiot! Nidoking's ability is Poison Point, so now your Granbull's poisoned due to it hitting Nidoking with a physical attack. Nidoking, Earth Power!
The Earth Power hit not only Granbull, but Scolipede as well as it tried to hit Sparky with a Poison Tail, making the Bug-type take supereffective damage.
Ash: Sparky, now's your chance! Use Confuse Ray!
The ends of Sparky's limbs glowed purple as they released a light purple ray, which hit Scolipede in the face. The Megapede was then seen with wide eyes and shrunken pupils as it then stumbled about.
Cassidy: No! Scolipede, snap out of it and use Poison Tail!
Scolipede's tail glowed purple as it wobbled about, the tail accidentally hitting Granbull and knocking it down.
Butch: Hey!
Cassidy: It's not my fault!
Gary: Alright! Mind finishing off, Ashy-boy?
Ash: *rolls eyes* I was justa about to. Sparky, end it with Hex!
Suddenly, Sparky's eyes glow purple and red as he then creates a sphere of black energy with a red eye in the middle. The eye then releases multiple dark blue rings of energy at Scolipede and Granbull, where the two are then knocked out.
Misty: Nice work, Ash! Hex does double damage to a Pokemon if they have a status condition.
Cassidy: *growls, takes out Pokeball* Doesn;t matter, we still have our own Pokemon to use!
Butch: *takes out Pokeball* Yeah. What are you gonna do now, huh? What are you gonna do?
Prof. Oak: Blast Burn!
Sableye: Blast Burn?
Suddenly, a large fire blast jetted forth and struck the Team Rocket goons, sending them and their prize master flying into the horizon. Shocked at the sudden Blast Burn, Ash and Gary, along with Misty, Brock, and Ash's Pokemon, looked back to see Professor Oak holding a Pokeball and next to him was a Charizard, but unlike Aiden, this one looked... weak?
No, weak wasn't the word. Old was the right one. This Charizard was old, shown as Its scales were a dull orange, sagging against its boney frame. Scars littered its body, showing that it had lived to have seen many fights. Despite the almost pathetic appearance, the flames on its tail gleamed bright, the same light flickering in its green eyes. After a moment, Professor Oak patted the Charizard on the snout and aimed the Pokeball at it, recalling it back to the sphere.
Prof. Oak: Thank you, old friend...
Brock: Professor, if I may ask, where did you get that Charizard?
Prof. Oak: Why, this Charizard is mine. He was my partner from my journeys as a boy.
Ash: Thanks, Professor. You've really saved the day there.
Prof. Oak: I'm afraid you've mistaken, Ash. While we may have sent them flying, it was Sparky who defeated them in battle.
Green: *smirks* And you said you weren't a battler…
Sparky: Well, I know a bit… But I won becauze I have a really awezome trainer to help me out.
The Rotom nuzzles Ash's face, making the boy smile and pat Sparky's back. Gary was impressed with Sparky's battle talent, he seemed really weak for a Pokemon Ash never battled with, but he managed to take down Scolipede and Granbull no problem.
Gary: I think I'm gonna go home.
Ash: Huh? But… What about-
Gary: That battle really took me out and besides, you'll have your A-Game on once we're in the Pokemon League.
Ash: …*smirks* Only if you're prepared to lose.
Gary: Just make sure you train as hard as I do. *turns around* See ya in 2 months.
Gary then proceeded to walk off, allowing the small group to begin walking back to the lab. Though Ash lingered back to talk to Sparky and his Pokemon.
Ash: Hey, Sparky. I know you're not the best at battling, but… Thanks for helping me out.
Sparky: I still prefer lab work, juzt zo you know… But, if you need me in the League, juzt know I'm only a call away.
Ash: *smiles* Thanks, Sparky.
Green: 2 months… 2 months and we're in the Pokemon League.
Cobalt: It seems like forever until then. But that just gives us incentive to train hard, right?
Ash nodded as he sped up his walking, trying not to look suspicious by Oak. With having learned about the Pokemon League and realizing that he and Gary can be on friendlier terms after all, Ash looked up with a hopeful gaze, prepared to work his hardest to win the Indigo League and soon enough, fufill his dream of becoming a Pokemon Master.
TO BE CONITNUED….
