The Overlanders make much noise. But then, do killers not always? Stumbling about blindly, knocking one another over and clashing with gnawers, shouting and screeching as they wave their sticks and torches about. Thinking that their words make them superior.

However, they make for decent trade partners. Whereas other creatures require webs only for wounds and the odd contraption, the killers are dependent - they wear their webs like a carapace on their bodies; to catch the waste of their young; to close their wounds; to wipe their dwellings.

The spinners do not like the killers particularly.

But then, they do not like the gnawers particularly either.

Nor the fliers, nor the nibblers.

Warmbloods are so particularly exacting.

What they covet, they take, heedless of what they crush in their endeavours. The blood that runs hot is the blood of entitlement.

And everyone else may best not get in the way.

The spinners are not fighters, but they have currency - there is no universal necessity like webs, and since webs may only be synthesized by spinners, the spinners are kept around and mostly alone.

Mostly.

Sometimes, the warmbloods get greedy. They march against one another. And when a warmblood covets, everyone may best not get in the way. When a warmblood wants something, they will not hesitate to take other shiny things they see along the way.

And spinners are so useful, after all.

Yes, they fear the day when they will cease to be respected and some warmblood species - likely the killers or the gnawers - will round them up and make them merely makers of web at their bidding.

Whoever these Overlanders may be, prophesied or not, the spinners will not greet them with ease. Nor the party likely following in their wake. They will wait with drinking - perhaps the Overlanders' companions will take offense to that. Yet they will not let these killers, foreign or not, think that the spinners are their indisputable allies.

It is best to be on guard - the spinners have always made themselves useful, but never careless.
