M.E.G.A MISSION PART 2
Peering down on the silent planet from the freezing void of space, the cobalt spacecraft gravitated over the terrestrial world humans call home. From the perspective of his holographic screen, the moth admiral Malkor grimaced. His conquest of the world below was eminent and the domicile nature of the humans was the perfect starting grounds.
"How many did we lose in the last attack, General Vrak?" The admiral scowled. The contempt was building, far too long he had been waiting patiently for the opportunity to attack and now the time had come.
"The casualties were great Admiral, a large portion of our forces were lost in our last encounter with the armada." Standing beside his admiral was the azure scientist, Vrak.
"Then we shall rest here for the time being, we'll invade this planet and use its inhabitants to reform our army. Send down a squadron of loogies, they will weed out the weak from the strong."
"As you command Admiral."
On the outskirts of the city, well away from all the density and clustered nature of the populated downtown area, a tranquil beach rests. Concealed behind a dense forest, a unique rock formation stands erected on a ridge overlooking the whole seashore. Squeaking in a slow rotation, the shadow of an industrial fan was projected in the ground of a room carved into the stone. From the ground, pedestals rise into place. Embedded on their surface screens begin powering on in the colors of Green, Blue, Yellow, Pink, and Red. Lining the sides of the narrow room, two strips of transparent glass show a row of small colorful figures standing side by side; ranger keys. Lastly, on the furthest wall from the entrance, a silver and gold tiki head was mounted. Its eyes powered on glowing in green light as the frame around the head itself flared in blue.
"Tensou? Tensou where are you?" The head called out.
"Gosei? What is it? How long have we been snoozing?" Wheeling into the space, the three-foot-tall helper robot, Tensou appeared. He spun around frantically in response to the urgency of Gosei's voice.
"Years. There could only be one reason we have been jostled from our stasis sleep. The Armada has found their way to earth!"
"The Armada?! But didn't your master vanquish them more than 15 years ago?"
"He did, but it appears the remnants of that fleet have managed to rebuild their strength and now one of their ships has managed to return. It won't be long before the rest of the fleet arrives. We must prepare for the forthcoming invasion and assemble a team of heroes to confront them."
"Shall I issue a distress call? There is a great number of individuals still loyal to the teachings of your mentor. With them, on our side we'll have more than enough power to defeat them."
"You're right Tensou, but many of the powers of those who came before have been buried deep within the Morphin Grid. We are in need of a new team to help revitalize these powers," Gosei said.
"But how Gosei and who?"
"We shall scour the globe and find 5 new heroes who are worthy. We'll use them to draw out the full power of the Morphin Grid and hopefully restore the energies of their predecessors."
"Wait a second, when you or your master say new team that typically means-"
"Yes Tensou, teenagers."
The Harwood county mall was astir with activity. Contradictory to the innate feeling of joy, Noah had nothing more than anger churning inside him. "Man I can't stand those guys. Just one day I would just like dig my fist right into Roy's face." His fists were clenched tight around the strap of his messenger bag, his eyes were locked, gazing in front of him with serious intent.
Jake, on the other hand, was still dealing with the stinging sensation on his jaw. He kept his palm pressed to the side of his face, massaging his sore cheek. Roy really did know how to throw a punch. Before leaving school Noah had insisted they both go to the nurse, but Jake was too stubborn. He had reasoned that his battle wound may make him more appealing to Gia. In actuality, she already had a 15-minute lead and he didn't want there to be any more of a delay.
"Ahh," Jake whined loudly, he thought that the pain would have subsided but it was still as fresh as ever.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Noah asked adjusting his glasses.
"Yeah I-ahh, I'm just going to be swollen for a couple of days." Jake moaned. Noah rolled his eyes, tired of Jake constantly getting bruised and battered for the sake of one girl's affection. She wasn't worth it.
"That wouldn't have happened if you had just left Gia alone. There's plenty of more fish in the sea Jake, some that are better suited for someone of your caliber. There's no need to throw your life away chasing after a dead-end," Noah admitted.
"What?" Jake scoffed with a smile. He fought the urge to rub the ache on his cheek. "No way. You may not think I have a chance but I can see it, way in the future. Though one thing I can't see is you hitting anyone. You're way too soft and kind-hearted for that."
The voice of Noah's concern passed miles above Jake, he was far too preoccupied with his attraction to even properly listen.
"If you want to be better at fighting..." Jake snickered, "I told you to take martial arts classes. I've gotten 5 years' experience and it helped me to be as patient as I was earlier or I would have killed those guys." With his chest puffed out Jake strode ahead, his arrogance was really starting to blossom and bloom.
"I have been taking self-defense classes, and my sensei has been teaching me both armed and unarmed combat. I'm really getting the hang of the sword, I can see why it was such a proficient weapon during the middle ages," Noah rambled exuberantly, he was thrilled to report of his recent endeavor.
Jake snorted mockingly, "When did you start this? I always thought you spent your free time studying."
"I started reading some martial arts books around the end of last year and enrolled in a class during the summer. I'm accelerating far quicker than all of the other students."
"Okay Noah, I see you...Soon you'll be a little less Banner and a little more Hulk. If you keep at it, you might actually get a girlfriend," Jake joked.
Noah opened his mouth to rebuttal when he was again cut off by Jake.
"Hey look, Ernie's has a new flavor,"
The cultured student paused to glare at the picture of a bowl with several different types of ice cream. Surrounding the bowl, an action shot of earth's first power ranger team stood. "To celebrate the greatness of power rangers we are serving our newest flavor Rocky Rainbow, which is a blend of vanilla, dark chocolate, strawberry, blueberry, lemon, and cherry ice cream. For $1.50 more green tea ice cream could be added," Noah read.
Yuck...
"I rather just have Vanilla, all those other flavors are too much. Not to mention the price, 15 bucks? That's insane." Noah said flabbergasted.
"But it's power ranger ice cream it should be free," Jake said.
"Well just think of the power rangers protecting this world for free and people are capitalizing on their success. The system is kinda messed up. Power Rangers are role models, they cast a guiding light in our darkest hour. If they so selflessly give it their all to defend the planet, then at least we should see a reduction in corrupt things." This got the gears turning in Noah's head. His mind began to project a new image of himself, no longer cowering behind the light but instead being the light. "If I was a power ranger, then bullies like Roy and his gang would leave me alone. Not just me, but all the bullies of the world would get their due diligence."
"Yeah yeah..If you were a power ranger than that means this city is in danger. Sorry to say Noah but to be a power ranger you need to have more brawn than brain, and currently brain is all you got." The words came like razor blades to Noah slicing him just under his skin. It was like Jake had taken a mallet to his fantasy and was dancing on the broken fragments.
"You don't need to be a power ranger, Noah, you have me. You see with us as a team we are just as indestructible as an oil spill." Jake said bumping Noah with his elbow. He then strode gleefully into the frozen yogurt shop.
"Now that's just racist."
"I told you I'm black Noah."
"No, you're not," Noah said rolling his eyes. Jake's comedic comments were getting old. Ever since the two of them started high school Jake has been nonstop with the witticisms.
Entering the store the two rush to the counter, Gia was hard at work on her schooling, she paid them no mind. Occasionally she'd glance up to take a sip of her green smoothie but gaping at her with a dumb smile, Jake leaned back from the bar counter. He waved energetically but she turned her back rejecting him as she jotted down another note.
Ernie was a jolly fellow who greeted everyone with a smile. During the summer Jake and Noah were regular customers.
"Hey chaps, what can I get for you? Do you want to try our new rocky rainbow ice cream?" The Indian owner asked flashing his famous cheshire grin.
"Not today, we're just going to go with the usual," Noah answered.
"Uh, but make it three." Jake intervened, "One for each of us and one for the pretty girl in the corner."
"Sure," Ernie said with a reassuring wink, aware that this was the girl Jake was love-struck with. While waiting for their frozen treats Jake unzipped his book bag. Most times it was empty, except for the few days Jake would carry a notebook and pencil. Reaching in, the boy produced a freshly inflated soccer ball which he cradled like a baby. He kept stealing glances back at Gia hoping that she'd notice him, but to Jake's dismay she hardly ever looked up. It was moments like this that made Noah see Gia differently. It was because of her that trouble always seemed to arise and Jake was often caught in the middle of it. Many times Noah has expressed to Jake that Gia wasn't worth it but his cries always fell on deaf ears.
_
What a lousy way to start the first day of school. Being a reporter was a hobby but being a photographer was her passion. At least whatever she took a picture of wouldn't snap back at her. After the cruel words, Troy had hurled at Emma today, seeing the still images on her camera was a peaceful escape.
The young man she interviewed, though mysterious, gave off the impression that he wasn't a great guy. A dry yet zealous individual in his own way and he had driven her to the point of tears. Emma had cried enough after her mother's fate and rather than give in to the feeling of sadness she exhaled. She was not a fragile little girl anymore. Sticks and stones she told herself.
At least the forest remained the same, peaceful and dazzling like her mother was. She missed her mother very much and wished she was around when she was feeling down. Though when Emma would ride through the forest, it felt as if her mother was present. The breeze felt fresh on her face, Emma just loved being enveloped by nature. A bike ride through the forest was just the pick-me-up she needed.
There were many life lessons to be taken from the outdoors. Like how innocent creatures like tadpoles and caterpillars transform into braver and more beautiful fauna. It was amazing what years of evolution can do.
Breaking to a halt, the object of the girl's attention was in view. She crept slowly to the insect who was resting obliviously on a branch. Raising her camera, Emma snapped several close up shots, each showing the beautiful orange pattern of the butterfly's wings.
"You are so beautiful," She whispered, it was just so mesmerizing to watch. Adjusting her focus, an unearthly blur passed into her line of sight. Bolting behind a tree, Emma peaked out to snap a clearer picture.
"What was that?" She wondered flipping through her evidence. That was the biggest bug she has ever seen. Steadying her breathing, Emma prepared to dart for her bike as she glanced for one last peak Emma ducked swiftly back behind her tree as the extraterrestrial creature was now looking in her direction.
"I smell a human!" Creepox growled. Emma was motionless.
What was she to do now? A supernatural beast of that size could only mean one thing. Intruders have once again found their place to attack earth. Emma was all alone with only the birds and bees to accompany her. Creepox began to creep closer following Emma's scent, the dry leaves crunching as he loomed closer sharpening his claws excitedly.
"Come out come out where ever you are!"
"Here you go," Ernie's grin had returned and in his hands were three fresh vanilla cones.
"Thank you," Jake said eagerly as he kept glancing back at Gia. She hadn't moved from her seat and this was the perfect set up for him to make his move. Noah's lower lip raised slightly and also his cheeks, his nose wrinkled and his upper eyelids rose, he knew that Jake was going to end up eating two ice cream cones. Like clockwork Gia was going to reject Jake's advances, she always has and always will.
"6 bucks." The shop owner said euphorically, excusing himself Noah stepped away to obtain some much-needed napkins. Scoffing, Jake's hand burrowed into his pocket, he was prepared for this moment. With his expectations high, Jake offered the man a crisp twenty-dollar bill that he had been saving for weeks. Those dishes he washed were about to pay off.
The optimism in Jake's eyes drifted to Gia anticipating her to be awestruck by the amount of cash he was putting out. Seeing that her gaze remained unchanged he spoke up.
"Twenty." He said with such confidence.
"20 bucks?" Rather than Gia, Ernie was the one who was starstruck. Twenty dollars was beyond necessary for the total pricing of the three cones. "I'll ring you up. "
Making his way to the register, Ernie raised the bill to the heavens trying to ensure its credibility and value.
4 pm, either those monarch butterflies kidnapped her or Emma was late. Again checking her phone there were no missed calls, no text messages, not even an e-mail. More than likely she just lost track of time. Packing up her school supplies, a tingling sensation began to migrate up from the soles of her feet but before Gia could even realize what was happening she vanished in a cyclone of yellow sparkling light.
While waiting anxiously for Ernie to bring him his change, Jake practiced his greeting to Gia. Feeling nervous he decided to glance back one more time at the girl of his dreams. but joy in his lungs swiftly deflated. His precious Gia was gone oddly enough leaving behind her books and what remains of her drink.
"Where'd she go?" Jake wondered. He turned to face Noah who much like Gia had also vanished.
"Noah?" When Jake turned to seek information from Noah as to where Gia went, he was gone as well. A cyclone of purple energy swallowed him. Ernie returned with the change in hand and a puzzled look on his face. Where did his customers go?
On the high roof of his aunt's workplace, Troy alleviated his boredom through the expression of martial arts. He thrust his fists and feet forward his mind at work to create imaginary enemies. He would have gone straight to the house but he wasn't issued a set of keys and he wasn't sure if anyone was home yet. His aunt had roughly 15 minutes left in her shift and she offered to give Troy a ride. The city bus Troy took, fortunately, had a stop that was near his aunt's office.
Several years' worth of resentment was attributed to his dad and this distancing did nothing to resolve any of it. Due to his military service, Troy was almost always on the move. This constant flux was only exacerbated when Troy started having "accidents". You would think that moving to a new place would mean a fresh start, but a fresh start only goes so far before a pattern is noticed. At each new school Troy would attend, the whispers of what happened at his old followed. Eventually, people's perceptions of Troy became his reality.
Troy's life has been a downward spiral and in some fashion, his dreams played a role. These nightly visions manifested concurrently to puberty. In his eyes, Power Rangers were a repugnant and sordid service. They had brainwashed millions to esteem them as heroes, but Troy long shattered that illusion. They were no different than the apparent evil they defeated as often the collateral damage was exuberant.
To center his emotions, Troy was enrolled in martial arts classes. Though the techniques did give a substantial discipline to his volatile mind an actions, his body has now become a weapon. He rehearsed the series of movements that awarded him the degree of blackbelt on the open-air rooftop. The ending motion was a high kick presumably aimed at his opponent's head. To substitute, Troy cast his aunt's bottle of water into the air. As he sprang up to meet it with his foot there was an unusual feeling spread throughout his body.
The empty bottle landed on the ground, but Troy had vanished.
The world around the teens became obscured, masqueraded by the luminescent glow of the cyclones. Their stomachs crawled into their chests as they were swiftly passed through space and time. One by one the cyclones spat the teens out onto a stone floor at the moment they were taken. For Gia and Noah, it felt like they had fallen through the floor, for Jake it was as if someone had taken his seat from under him, lastly Troy he felt as though he had tripped. All of the teens now found themselves resting on the ground. In the corner above them along the wall of the cave, a small industrial fan turned slowly its shadow was cast onto the ground before them.
"Aww!" Jake complained noticing his ice cream was now free from their cones. "How the-what just happened?"
Across the room, the new kid Troy was propped against the wall using it to guide himself to his feet. Laying next to Jake, Gia was pushing herself off the ground, the blur in her eyes slowly adjusting to her new surroundings. Jake's pulse quickened as the girl of his dreams and fantasies was right next to him. She smelled of lavender perfume, a scent that Jake won't soon forget.
Troy's eyes were livid once he got to his feet, they darted around the room quickly taking note of the one-inch ranger figures lining the walls. His heart started to pound as the figures of his nightmares now surrounded him.
There had to be a reason.
Someone must be responsible, he locked eyes with someone he recognized from his class, the smart one, Noah. Marching toward his unsuspecting victim, Troy gripped Noah by the collar pinning him against the wall.
"You! You seem smart, care to explain where I am and how I got here?" Troy asked glaring daggers at Noah.
"Hey man, I know as much as you do at the moment. I just woke up here like you," Noah said raising his hands objectively and doing his best not to touch Troy. The rumors passed from person to person like a disease, and Noah did not want to be his next victim. Jake was antsy to aid his friend, but fear kept him anchored in place. If Troy were to suddenly go pyro and consume both he and Noah, would Gia mourn for him if he was roasted alive?
"It's true bro, none of us know how we got here," Jake said coming to Noah's defense. With each step toward Troy, his knees wobbled as he started sweating profusely. He tentatively raised his hands uncertain if it was safe or not to lay a hand on Troy. Reading the petrified expressions on the faces of the two boys, Troy's anger subsided. He sighed loudly releasing his grip on Noah leaving wrinkled lines around his collar.
Stuffing his hands into the pits of his pockets Troy patrolled the length of the base. Along the back wall and to the far right a concave entrance was sealed by a metal door that did not seem to budge. At the front of the room and enlarged tiki head sat in silence, its green eyes gawking, not seeming to follow the teenagers. To its immediate right a pair of silver double doors were also shut tight. Lining the room on both sides, the sight of the rangers caused a sickening feeling to swell in Troy's stomach. No matter what he did there was no type of escape from their influence. If only there was a city where Rangers were banned if such a place existed then Troy would move there in a heartbeat.
Amused by Troy's violent outburst, Gia was quick to recognize his no-nonsense attitude, something she valued quite highly. Finally, someone who didn't kowtow to social standards or try to be someone they weren't. The rumors might've been true, and if they were then it goes to show Troy had some serious guts. She had to talk to him, he was an enigma, a mystery, someone who might actually be worth her time.
"Hey, I'm Gia," she said standing beside Troy, her blue eyes lost on his profile. Troy remained vigilant, his gaze affixed to the small multicolored figures standing shoulder to shoulder behind a veil of glass. His breathing became more hastened and his jaw clenched tight.
"...Hey," Gia called again.
Jake and Noah held their breath when Gia went to grab him, they were so worried that she'd erupt into flames or somehow be scarred beyond recognition because of him. Yet, the moment Gia came within a few inches from touching Troy, whatever illusion he was in broke, snapping him back to reality. Troy shook his head attempting to purge the wrathful visage from his subconscious. Once again his mind slipped back to the otherworldly realm of dreams, connecting his subconscious to the vile reverie he experienced this morning.
"Hey, I'm Gia. Are you alright?" Gia asked battering her crystal blue eyes which seemed to pop thanks to her black eyeliner.
"Good to know," Troy smirked.
At that moment a swirling cloud of pink particles swirled dispensing Emma on to the cave ground. She staggered when she tried to rise, the vertigo turned the level ground into a raging ocean. The invisible waves attempting to capsize her small sailing vessel.
"Whoa, how'd I get here?" She wondered looking around and quickly noticing others had also been gathered.
"Whoa, two hotties in one place? This must be my lucky day," Jake whispered grinning.
"Shut up dude," Noah responded.
"Emma?" Gia said stunned racing to her best friend's side. Gripping the photographer's elbow and forearm, Gia helped her friend to her feet, stabilizing her.
"Gia! How did I get here? Where exactly is here anyway? One minute I'm in the forest capturing the migration of orange butterflies, next thing I know this giant insect thing attacked me and now I'm here," Emma said frazzled, the words came flying out of her lips all in a rush and only three words were translated.
"Giant insect thing?" Troy scoffed, "Yeah right,"
"Hey, guys look," Noah said alerting everyone of the 5 pedestals placed around the room. The 5 screens showed captured images of the teens in their personal lives. Noah saw an image of himself winning a blue ribbon for a science experiment two years ago, Jake saw a video of him scoring a winning goal in a soccer game. Gia saw a clip of herself slamming the door to a house angrily before trudging down the porch steps and Emma glanced a vision of herself weeping outside a hospital room, inside the nurses placed a sheet over the patient lying in the bed. Lastly Troy saw himself standing outside in the middle of a school hallway glancing down at his hands. Upon reliving the image his rage spiked once again. He pinched his lips shut trying to keep his emotions in check. He closed his eyes and counted backward from ten breathing deeply.
"Whoever brought us here has been watching us for a long time," Noah said in a calm manner when the door in the back of the room opened and the robot assistant Tensou wheeled himself in.
"It worked! It worked! That old teleportation mechanism worked!" Tensou chanted.
"What the heck is that thing!" Gia shouted as the teens whipped behind them.
"Fascinating," Noah said adjusting his glasses, kneeling down to observe the robotic specimen closer. "An old school robot, like in the movies!" He said excitedly trying to scoop Tensou into his arms.
"Old school?!" Tensou shouted as he zapped Noah with a weak electric shock.
"What are you then? A servant droid?" Jake asked.
"No, I'm Tensou! A guardian of the earth...in training," the robot responded. He wheeled toward the front of the room. "Gosei! Gosei! It worked, the teleportation worked!"
One by one the main lights of the cave powered on, as at the head of the room the face of Gosei came to life, his voice booming with authority.
"Welcome Humans, your lives are about to change forever. My mentor Zordon, placed me here to be the guardian of this planet. I am of the earth and embody its great and mystical powers." The big pendant looking head had a grand voice, one that demanded attention.
"Whoa, freaky tiki," Jake was astounded by Gosei's appearance.
"Guardian, really?" Troy scoffed as he rose an eyebrow.
"Who's Zordon?" Gia asked, "and who are you?"
"I am Gosei." The massive head responded.
"Gosei? Wait, your name is five stars?" Noah asked as a perplex expression covered the other teenagers' faces.
"Very clever, not many would have guessed that. I have been kept dormant for a great number of years. I have been awoken by the great impending threat of an extraterrestrial origin." Gosei told the teenagers as they all gathered before him, even after Gosei's powerful voice almost scared Jake half to wits.
"Uh, whoever you are, you look like something off one of my dad's Hawaiian shirts." Jake mocked.
"My mentor Zordon is a galactic sage and a force of good. He served as a mentor for the earth's first distinguish defenders known as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I have taken this form because it acts as my tether to this world. Should this form be destroyed, I will have no choice but to revert to my original appearance which is that of pure energy. My actual appearance is much too great for the atmosphere of this world to contain and should I be exposed, I will bring about great destruction upon the world I was sworn to protect."
Well, that wouldn't be a great idea.
Troy's lips puckered, annoyed and tired. Whoever this golden chaplet was they had a lot of guts to bring him to this unknown place. "Alright wizard of oz, what do you want? Why did you think it was such a good idea to kidnap me?"
"This is a perilous time for mankind. The earth needs you." Gosei answered.
"What are you talking about? Aren't there other power rangers out there?" Gia replied.
"Many of their powers have been locked or destroyed, unable for them to be accessed. However, with you, we may have a method of restoring them. By connecting you five to the universal morphing grid, we may be able to use you as a means to recover those lost powers by having you all free them from the grid. You essentially will serve as a great conduit that will hopefully bring about the salvation of Earth. Fifteen years ago, Zordon was captured by a great evil known as Dark Spector who was amassing an army to conquer the universe. Before he was captured he sent me ahead to earth, to lie dormant for he already had a plan in place to eradicate the army of darkness once and for all. At the end of the war, Zordon sacrificed himself to ensure that no great army can ever amass their strength again. I was put here to ensure that-that promise is fulfilled. I sense that another great army has set their sights on earth and have already dispatched a team to observe and analyze the planet's defenses. If we do not act quickly, the earth will soon be swarmed and overrun by evil. I will not let my master's sacrifice be in vain not while we still have a fighting chance." Gosei explained and by the looks of it, he sounded serious since they weren't able to tell by his expression when he only had one.
Yet Jake couldn't help but chuckle. He thought that punch from Frank was only skin deep and may have been affecting his mind because something as vital as this had to be a joke. He was only a teenager for crying out loud, "A giant talking tiki and now a giant army of aliens. You got to be kidding me."
"Well Jake compared to what's reported to of happened in other cities, this shouldn't be that surprising. Magic in Briarwood? Demons in Mariner Bay? Heck aliens have shown up twice in Angel Grove and that's not far from us." Noah said.
Emma, however, had the proof to conceal the theories hidden right inside her camera. It was valuable information that needed to be shared, to erase the doubt and to clarify that even their own beloved home was never a safe haven from aliens. "Yeah, he's not kidding."
Jake, Gia, and Noah huddled around Emma in order to see the vagabond monstrosity from the forest. Troy distanced himself from the strangers, he was more interested in the one-inch figures that lined the walls. If the dreams weren't enough Troy was now surrounded by memorabilia of the things he hated most; Power Rangers
"What gives? Why us?" Gia couldn't believe what she was seeing, her own town was now the victims of aliens.
"Your skepticism is healthy." The teenagers all took their gazes either from the camera screen or the glass showcase from the unknown cavern as they pull their attention to Gosei when he spoke, "You have been carefully selected to form a team in the long tradition of the Power Rangers. Tensou, show them."
"What? Oh yes, on screen." Tensou, the little-squared robot was invested in the creamy texture of Jake's wasted ice cream. Tensou almost slipped in the process as he faced the five half column screens, initiating a code in the core of his mechanics as he says, "Activated."
One screen boom to life in the color pink which Emma saw herself, riding a bike as she trailed through the forest. As she watched, Gosei interpreted her character in hopes to gain the teenagers' trust, "Emma you're not only a great BMX cyclist, but you also truly care about the environment. You go to great lengths to take care of it. You shall soar up from the flames and rise like a phoenix and be the pink ranger."
Noah was next and he had shown no form of doubt when it was his turn. The screen in his reach and Noah could only guess what color he would be when it flashed in the color blue. Gosei then elucidated Noah's position in the fight to save the earth as the screen played clips of Noah in the science lab. "Noah, your thirst for knowledge is unequaled. Our future depends upon the work of great scientific minds like yours. As the blue ranger, your attacks will bite with the force of a shark."
Noah's wish had come true, he was chosen to be a Power Ranger. It made him so happy and not only that but he would finally have the power to batter anyone who got in his way. Noah gave Jake the most ensuring look when suddenly it was Jake's turn.
"There's nobody with the boundless athleticism and enthusiasm to match yours, Jake. I am making you the black ranger, who will fight with the stealth of a snake." Jake's soccer skills were unimaginable as he kicks the ball through the goal as it was presented through the screen. Now that Jake thought of it, that suit was pretty cool and the color, "See Noah I told you I was black."
Noah only shook his head but Gia seemed to be smiling when Gosei called out her name.
"Then there is Gia. You are calm under pressure and pursue excellence with the ferocity of a tiger. You will be the yellow ranger. "Honor and pride were the only emotions that Gia could express. Gosei was the only male that saw her not as a prized beauty but as a strong individual.
Jake prayed that Gia would maintain her status as a ranger. Her attractiveness spiked five points making her a 15 out of 10.
"As for you Troy," the rebellious teen observed Gosei with contempt in his eyes, "your purity of spirit and strength are the result of incredible discipline. Since you've met adversity in your life with great skill, you shall be the red ranger and like the dragon, you will serve as the team's leader."
Some of the faces of the people around him resembled approval but Troy was mortified. This morphological being somehow acquired footage of Troy and the other teenagers in their personal lives. More than likely Gosei had more private information he kept locked away probably to use as a means of blackmail later. It disturbed Troy to no end to know that someone was watching him at all times. This someone now expected that he and four others to willingly throw their lives away.
All Gosei spoke was a bunch of malarkey. While everyone seemed excited when Gosei admired their traits Troy just wanted to scream. There was a video of him practicing his martial arts as well as footage of the teenagers he just met. Who knew what other personal business of his Gosei had upon him. It angered Troy to know all along someone was watching him and expect him to just join his platoon after invading his privacy.
"Where did you get this footage? You've been stalking me?" Troy snapped, "This has to be a mistake."
"There is no mistake." Gosei tried to evade Troy's first question as the boy shook his head in an effort to calm down.
"You still haven't answered my question," Troy didn't forget what he had asked as the golden head remained silent but then he spoke, "...Your anger Troy is understandable and I can sense that you have a great deal of confusion and worries. Don't let those emotions get the better of you. I'm sure you have many questions as to who you are and what powers lie dormant in you."
"I implore you, Troy, if you take up the mantle of leadership all your questions will be answered," Gosei said.
"Why is he the leader?" Emma's denunciation of Troy halted the world. It took outstanding courage to speak up, something that Emma thought she had lost. Troy's history sprinkled fear down the spines of the others, but Emma was defiant. His impudence from earlier in the day was enough to light a fire in her. She pushed Troy to the defensive when she quizzed him on his past. The way he rebuffed her kind approach forever tainted her view of him. A man of his character should not be honored as a leader.
"You know," Troy snickered as he looked over his shoulder to her, "For once I agree with you." Troy then turned his head back to the talking tiki. "Just because you say I am a leader doesn't automatically make me one. I find this all senseless and pointless. You can't keep me here and I doubt you can do anything to stop me. So unless you can convince me to stay in the next 5 minutes, I'll be leaving."
"Troy, I know you have a great number of questions to your past, but in doing this you will find answers. You all have been chosen because of your skill and character. Each of you will be given access to extraordinary powers that will help you protect the earth." Gosei said and just before their eyes, materializing to sight, 5 abridge devices with a clear mirror image to Gosei, floated in front of the teenagers. Jake, Noah, Emma, and Gia immediately grabbed the unusually bizarre devices, unlike Troy who barely laid a finger on it as it remained floating.
"Those are your morphers," Gosei said as the 5th Morpher was forced into Troy's hand whether he wanted to hold it or not. "With them, you will morph into mega rangers. You will wield power cards that will unlock special weapons and abilities. And you shall command mighty machines called Megazords."
"Yo this-uh-...Conceited much?" The appearance of the unusual device in Jake's hand prevailed to be freaky. He was put off by the design, thinking that it was much too big and not easily disguisable. Not to mention it felt like Gosei would literally be able to watch them and see everything they do...oh, wait he already has that ability.
"Morphers, power cards, Megazords? Mega rangers? From what I'm hearing, all this tech seems equivalent to angels." The comparisons were overwhelming in Noah's eyes. The majestic and seemingly divine powers, the semi omniscience of the planet, and a vast understanding of some of the mysteries of the universe made it clear that essentially Noah and the others would become an angel.
"Indeed you are right Noah. As you can see, cards also represent wind, fire, water, and earth. They represent the struggle of opposing forces for victory in life. Now I know the structure of the Morpher might be quite strange but as Noah guessed they have a connection to a deity of power and when combining the cards together it will give you the strength of what is the greater good." Gosei explained.
"You figure out these are equivalent to angels just by playing cards?" Jake asked Noah.
"Well if you read the guardians of the sky Jake, you would have known," Noah said.
"So that's your whole life elevator pitch?" Troy glanced at his watch, five minutes was up two minutes ago and so far all Gosei has done was talk. Will this thing ever shut up? Out of all that talking, Troy had not heard anything that remotely interested him, "You send in teenagers to go fight off in a war when you could easily take them on by yourself. Or in fact, there are arm forces for that, which can't even do a great job themselves but you send teenagers..." Troy wasn't buying into the story. "Who cares about the planet, we already ruined it. Who knows maybe the earth is better off being destroyed."
Never before had Emma met someone so cold and heartless. Emma was appalled at Troy's words, sure there was a lot of negatives in the world but there were also a lot of positives. There is still a lot of potential for change. "So all this coming from the guy who said the humans will outlive everyone on earth? I actually thought you would want to fight, being that you have a record of fighting."
Bringing up his past, that was a big no-no in Troy's eyes. This girl was proceeding down a path that not many would dare to tread. "...You don't even know me."
"Oh really? Is it true you that you gave one kid 2nd-degree burns?" Emma said.
Troy shrugged, "I don't know if you're trying to roast me in some way but remember who's was chosen to be the pink ranger here. If I recall those rangers are the weak ones...the weak ones that depend on the leaders but guess what you have none."
"Hey," Gia wanted to intervene but Emma wouldn't allow it. She was tired of people always looking down on her.
"I got this Gia," Emma said.
"You got what? Are you supposed to scare me or something?" Troy asked.
"Well I'm scared," Jake said as he and Noah watched the altercation unfound which was none of their business but very interesting to see someone stand up to the new kid. The new kid everyone feared.
"No, fear is the last thing I would want to draw upon you because you're scared on your own free will. Because if we were chosen to be power rangers I'd just want what's best for the environment, which means I think we'd be better off defending the world from you and maybe there wouldn't be innocent people being thrown around by you." Emma scolded, this was a side Gia had never seen before.
"Heh...Okay.." Emma had some harsh words but they didn't outrage Troy's decision more like raise his arrogance and pride. Emma was stupid and naive, she had guts but she didn't have a brain. Everyone in here had no sense of direction and were confused but Troy wasn't going to fall into that category. Especially from this Zoltar looking thing and this Wall-e robot which looked to be manufactured in New Tech City. "If you guys want to lay your lives down for some false sense of justice then fine, so be it. Just know from here on out you won't get an ounce of sleep or recognition. Every night you'll lie awake thinking about all the people you failed to save while I'll be sleeping fine. You'll wake up wishing that the fighting will stop but it never will until either you die or they do. Have fun killing each other without me."
With that being said Troy walked away. Gia's best friend was getting obliterated with insults but even though the new kid was a jerk she had to admire him..that was hot...hotter than Jake.
"Troy, please! Don't go!" Tensou called out, following Troy towards the exit. The door was constructed of stone which opened upward as Troy approached, revealing a descending staircase. "Come any closer and I will punt you..."
Troy left it at that, leaving Tensou puzzled as he said, "What's punt mean?"
"Ah come on Decoy, we could work this out," Jake shouted out. Troy looked back to Jake raising an eyebrow. A shutter of nervousness coursed through Jake's body as the look Troy had given him resembled that of a wild animal. He immediately wished he hadn't said anything.
"That's not his name dude," Noah said.
"Oh um..SORRY!" Jake apologized out loud. Now there were only 4 teenagers standing in Gosei's based and a leaderless group.
"Just forget about him, he's gone now." Emma didn't care at all at this moment as the teenagers put their attention back to Gosei.
"He will be missed, but hopefully he will come around. With you four choosing to remain here, I am moving forward with the assumption that you accept the responsibilities granted to you. If I am wrong about this, you are free to exit just as Troy has." Gosei beseeched.
Gia looks down at the Morpher in her hand and at the face of those around her. None of which brought any major reassurance. Weighing her options, she didn't want to have to give up so much of her life. Maybe Troy had a point, she thought to herself. Emma was quick to read the expressions on everyone's faces. She could see the fear and the doubt rising in them and she had them too, but if it came to saving the planet or saving herself, she'd rather see the earth continue to exist in the near future.
"I'll do it!" Emma said.
"Me too!" Noah shouted.
Jake looked towards Gia, he wanted to fight too, but he also wanted to impress her. Would she think he's was cool if he said he'd do it? Or all the more lame?
"Gia? Jake?" Gosei asked.
"Please," Emma pleaded looking to her best friend, "you said you wanted us to do something together, this could be it. Besides having you with me is like having my mom with me," Emma said.
"And Jake if you do it, think of all the girls who'll want to meet you," Noah said.
"Shut up dude, it's a tough choice," Jake said.
Gia stared at Emma who was pouting with the appearance of tears in her eyes. This look always made Gia feel guilty.
"Okay Emma, I'll do it...for you." Gia gave in.
"If Gia's in so am I," Jake said enthusiastically.
"Really dude? Way to stay cool man," Noah rolled his eyes.
Jake cleared his throat, "I mean..I'm down."
"YAY!" Tensou was excited. At the first try of finding rangers they joined and he succeeded...Well almost, they had no leader.
"The world will appreciate your decision to protect the earth...Now rangers, my sensors have indicated a squad of aliens have already descended upon the earth. I'm dispatching you to deal with them. To morph all you must do is insert the power card into the Morpher and say Go Go Megaforce!"
"Wait, how are we supposed to restore the powers of previous rangers?" Noah asked when suddenly the rangers dissolved into particles of their respective colors as they vanished in a cyclone. Noah's question remained unanswered, for now.
