It's Out

Something was off about this new girl. Never in my morbid life have I forgotten a face and I could almost swear I knew her from somewhere. I couldn't place her face and it was bothering the living hell out of me. When I asked Edward about her, he got annoyed and snapped at us about her. Saying he couldn't hear her and that we should just leave it alone.
He had been in an awful mood since. I had only seen her at lunch in the cafeteria. I kept my distance for Edward. I didn't need him on my back about this. Alice had become my informant for the new girl her name was Bella Swan. She had biology with Edward and Spanish with Alice. Alice informed me that Bella is unbelievably bright.
Even now as I sat up in the tree outside my window I couldn't shake this odd feeling. Alice floated into my room and hopped up onto the windowsill.
"Hello Jasper." She chirped. She was very graceful as she stepped out into the branch below me.
"Alice." I greeted her lazily. "To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?"
She leaned against me, "I thought I would come talk to you. Edward's being a butthead. He's been acting weird since school started." She huffed. I scooted away from the trunk and let Alice climb up behind me. I laid my head in her lap.
"He still hasn't open his eyes, has he?" I said. "For a man so incredibly smart, Edward is inherently idiotic."
"He just needs time." She said playing with my hair. "He'll come around eventually."
"Alice, we've been a part of this family for fifty-six years. You and I spilt forty-three years ago. The man has had all the time in the world to realize who you are to him." I imagined his neck between my hand and I squeezed. "Sometimes I wish you'd just let me knock some sense into him. I hate seeing him hurt you like this."
"No, Jazz. He doesn't know he's doing it. I'm sure if he knew what I did he wouldn't be treating me like this. I'm okay to just be his sister for now." she said. "Enough about me, wanna hear more about the new girl?" I narrowed my eyes at her.
"The only subject you know I'll change to. You're a sly little pixie aren't you." I said. "What have you heard?"
"This girl in Spanish kept asking Bella all of these questions about her life back in Arizona. I'm surprised that Bella didn't slap her for all of the questions she was asking. She asked about her baby and the baby's father and her backpack. She just wouldn't leave the poor girl alone." she paused. "Bella was very even tempered about it."
"So you're telling me you know more than the fact that her Spanish has a slight accent." I said, cutting her off from her ramble.
"Yeah. So the baby is due October 2nd but I looked and it's not going to be born that day. It'll be before, I just don't know when. It's blocked. She moved to Forks to live with her dad Chief Swan. They baby's father was a Marine he was killed in the line of duty. Her backpack is his old uniform and the lettering is her and the baby's initials."
"I. M. S?" I questioned.
"Isabella Marie Swan" Alice answered. "I wasn't able to catch the baby's name. The bell rang and the conversation ended."
"That's a coincidence." I said. It puzzled me.
"What is?" she asked.
"My wife when I was human, her name was Isabella Marie. Peter told me but that's about all he told me." I said.
"Both names are pretty common for someone her age." She said. "I wonder what J. A. S. stands for. I suppose we'll find out soon enough."
"Who knows?" I sat up. "Alice, I don't want to meet my mate until Thick Skull pulls his head out of his ass. It doesn't seem fair. You deserve to be happy."
"You can't change when you'll meet her. It's going to happen by the end of the year, you've known that for years. We can't control when he'll see me for me." she said.
"I'll make him figure it out." I said. Alice put her hand on my shoulder.
"No you won't." I sensed him watching and I looked down. Alice followed my gaze to see Edward watching us. He was finally unloading his car from his trip to Alaska. Carlisle wasn't very happy that he just took off, but he couldn't stop him. "He'll be back in school tomorrow." she said.
"I know. Maybe things will be okay between him and Bella. I know he doesn't approve of premarital sex but that really wasn't a good reason to hate her." I said.
"It wasn't just that. Her blood was almost too much from him." Alice said.

Edward left again and came back. I know that he's severely attracted to my blood but there was something else about his awful glare. I don't know what it was. He introduced himself all over again. There was more hesitation this time. The same awkward Bio lab the only difference was I had to stand to use the microscope. My belly prevented me from leaning forward enough to see inside it. Being around vampires made Jeremiah fussier than usual. I was constantly being kicked in Biology and Spanish. Every day at lunch it was a battle between Edward and Jasper of who would stare more.
It was a morning like any other. I got up, took my vitamins and got ready for my day. I got to school early and decided to stand for a bit next to my truck it was a nice enough day. I had on a light jacket and jeans. It was supposed to start raining again so I wanted to soak up some of the sun before it disappeared.
I had headphones in, standing next to the hood of my truck, reading from my beaten up copy of Wuthering Heights. I absently drew a hand back and forth across my growing child. He didn't have nearly enough room in there and I could tell he was getting tired of being cramped. It doesn't seem like I'll be meeting my baby boy in six weeks.
I checked the time on my watch and put my book in my backpack. I pulled out my head phone and was starting to put them away when I heard an earsplitting screeching noise. I looked up and around and made eye contact with Jasper and the Cullens across the parking lot. It dawned on me what was happening. Instead of ice, this time it was the sun blinding Tyler Crowley and his Van headed straight for me going way too fast. He jerked the wheel to one side hopping to avoid hitting me or my truck. That turned his van sideways and on to its side where is continued to skid toward me too fast for me to move. I frantically looked for Edward hoping he would still be there to save me it was more important this time.
I found him and he was still standing next to his car with his siblings. They were following something other than the van. I felt something hit me from a different direction knocking me out of the way of immediate impact. I hit the ground hard; my head slammed against the hard asphalt. My first instinct was to curl up as much as I could to protect Jeremiah. I looked up seeing that it wasn't Edward who pushed me it was Jasper.
He stopped the van in its tracks and stayed between it and me. I looked up at him he was focused on the van. That's about when the screaming started. I tried to sit up.
"No, no, no. You need to stay down. Your head hit pretty hard." He said.
"I need to sit up, hurts to lay on my back. It's not good for me or the baby." I said, forcing myself up. He took off his jacket and wadded it up into a ball.
"Okay, at least just lay against me. Come here." he sat behind me, up against my truck and laid the jacket on his ribcage. "Come on. You need to stay still until the paramedics get here." Oh god.
I laid back into the almost familiar chest of the man I loved. I let my head rest on his shoulder. I knew I had to play dumb. It shouldn't be too difficult, I head was foggy from hitting it on the ground.
"What happened?" I asked I looked at him. People were still yelling and I could hear the sirens on the ambulance getting closer.
"I pushed you out of the way of the van." He said, I looked around. The back of my truck was backed against one of the school buildings and there was a tan compact car parked too far away from its space leaving the van wrapped around the front corner of my truck and smashed against the back of the tan car.
"But you were across the parking lot. You were standing with your siblings." I said, my hands hadn't left my stomach. Jasper held me close and it made me wish he remembered me.
"Bella!" I heard Jessica's voice ring through the crowd.
"Bella! Bella, are you alright?" Mike.
"Bella!"
"Someone get Tyler out of the van!"
The voices were all running together. I have to get to Carlisle. He has to check on the baby. Jasper held me and corresponded with the paramedics until they were able to get to me and get me on a stretcher. They made me go on the stretcher in spite of my protests. Jasper convinced the paramedic that he didn't need to be put on a stretcher.
"I'm fine, stop poking at me. It's the baby you need to worry about." I said, pushing the medic's hands away from me.
"Miss Swan, we need to stabilize your neck before we can start moving." he said.
"For God's sake, just do it so I can make sure he's alright!" I yelled at him. He put a brace around my neck carefully.
"Bells?" I heard. Charlie was here.
"Char… Dad?" I said trying to see him.
"Bella? What happened?" he demanded, to the paramedic closing the doors on me.
"Dad!" I yelled. I felt the ambulance shift and start moving. "We can't leave my dad just got here."
Panic didn't truly start to set in until I had heard Charlie's voice. I felt my heartbeat speed up and my breathing quicken.
"I think I'm going to be sick." I said.
"Bella, focus on your breathing. Slow your heartrate down, the baby can't handle the stress. We're almost there. Everything is going to be fine you're in good hands." The paramedic sitting by my side said.
My eyes darted around looking for something to lock with, I wasn't finding anything. I looked up as far as I could and found Jasper looking back at me from the front of the ambulance. My anxiety decreased and I was flushed with calmness. I knew what he was doing but I still felt more comfort in looking into his eyes that anything else. Jeremiah chose now to push against my stomach. The paramedic next to me saw it.
"He's a wiggly one, isn't he?" I looked away from Jasper.
"Yeah, he pushes against me a lot." I said. I moved my hand and drummed fingers and he kicked again.
The ambulance pulled to a stop and the doors opened almost immediately. Jasper stood close by watching as the paramedics wheeled me in. I was met by the on duty ER Doctor and Dr. Cullen. Jasper walked in unescorted behind me.
"What happened?" the ER doctor asked.
"Car accident. She was standing next to her truck with the Jasper and the Crowley boy lost control flipping on its side and slamming into the truck. Your boy pulled her out of the way but she hit her head real hard and they were trapped between the van and the truck." The one who stayed with me said. "Your son saved two lives today."
The other spoke up, "The Crowley kid followed us here he'll be in any moment."
"Okay, why don't you see to Tyler Crowley, I'll take it from here for Isabella?" Dr. Cullen said. "Jasper, are you feeling alright?"
"Yes sir, I wasn't hurt, maybe a bruise or two." He replied, steadily walking along side my gurney.
"Alright go ahead a lie down in my office for a while. I'll call the school for your absence later."
"Dr. Cullen. My dad, is he here yet?" I asked. Jasper had walked away and I was starting to become a little panicked again.
"He had to stay until after Tyler was removed from his car. He'll be waiting for you when we get you out of the ultrasound. Let's make sure Baby Swan is alright." He said.
"I didn't get to tell Jasper thank you." I said.
"I'll pass the message along until you can. Nurse, emergency I need you to come help me get her ready for emergency ultrasound." He said.
"Get me ready?"
"It's against policy for a male doctor to help a female undress and seeing as you can't undress by yourself yet I need help." He said. "I need her ready for internal and external sonograms."
"I'm going to step out. Please, make haste." He said. He closed the curtain.
She unlaced my boots and pulled them off.
"Okay," she grabbed elastic on my jeans and tugged. "Try to lift your hips a bit." I did and she got my pants off. "Thanks."
She laid a gown over me and opened the curtain; Dr. Cullen came in and closed the curtain again, immediately starting the internal sonogram.
"Just relax, Miss Swan this is all just precaution. Now when you fell, how did you fall?" he asked.
"I felt something, Jasper, hit me from the right. My hip but hit first and then my shoulder and head. I kind of curled up after that." I said.
"Alright we're almost done with this one. Everything is looking fine right now. I just want to be sure."
"Okay." I said quietly. I closed my eyes and let Carlisle work. He would take care of us. What am I going to tell him? Or Jasper? Will I have to let Edward get close to me again to have Jasper? Will I have to take him from Alice? I hadn't thought this far into the future about this until just now. It scared me. What if Alice didn't want me to have Jasper? What if I reject Edward and he doesn't handle it well. I don't know what I'll do if Jasper doesn't believe me. It would be wonderful for Lieselotte to get here and help me out. I felt tears threaten to leak from behind my lids. I wanted nothing more than for Jasper to hold me and tell me it would be alright. Laying on the ground between three vehicles in his arms was the closest I've felt to home since I left 1863.
"Well Miss Swan, you're very lucky. There's no sign of complication or injury to the baby. We'll get your head looked at and some pain medication in your system, then you'll have to go home and rest from the rest of the weekend. The two of you have been through a traumatic event. I think it's best for you to take it easy for the next few days. Let Charlie cater to you. He's told me you're pretty independent. I'm not ordering bed rest but I want you to relax like you're on bed rest for a few days. Let him adjust and recuperate. Can you do that?" he asked.
"Yes. I'll be cautious. Thank you Dr. Cullen." I said. "I'm not going anywhere. Can I take this off?" I asked pointing at the neck brace.
"Yes. Let me help you with that." he undid the clasps and carefully pulled it out from under my neck. "If you want to get dressed again I'll send a nurse in. I'll tell Charlie he can come back now."
"Thanks. I can handle getting dressed." I said.
He smiled. "Remember what I said about letting Charlie cater to you? That starts now. With a nurse. She's just going to make sure you don't fall or strain yourself. You'll probably be prone to dizziness because you hit your head so hard." He left it at that and a nurse came in shortly after he left.
She helped me keep my balance while I put my pants on. She put another pillow behind me as I laid back again.
"The doctor on duty will be in shortly." she said.
Charlie was waiting outside the curtain when she opened it.
"Hey Bells." He said coming in and closing the curtains. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine, Jeremiah's fine. I have a bit of a headache though." I said.
"I think I'll wait for the doctor to tell me you're alright." He said sitting next to the bed I was laying on. "You scared me to death today Bella."
"I know, Dad." I told him. "I had no idea this was going to happen. I think I'd be a lot worse off if Jasper hadn't been there."
"Jasper. Dr. Cullen's boy?" he asked.
"Yeah. He pushed me out of the way." I said. "It was so-"
I was cut off by the curtain opening and Dr. Cullen coming in.
"Chief Swan." He shook my dad's hand. "Just coming to get the equipment to take it back to the maternity ward." He said.
"Bella tells me that your son saved her life." He said. "I'd like to thank him in person. He saved my family."
"Yes. He's resting in my office right now. I'll let him know. He told me he was standing nearby when Mr. Crowley lost control of the vehicle. Close enough to get to her. He's told me he's very sorry you've hurt your head." Carlisle said. "In fact, I've just come back from checking up on him. I'll make sure he makes an appearance before you leave."
Carlisle excused himself rolling the ultrasound machine in front of him.
"Hello Isabella, I'm Dr. Pickerman. Dr. Cullen informed me that everything's fine with your pregnancy. How's your head?" The ER doctor that was waiting for us earlier came in right after.
"Just a little bit of a headache." I said.
"Alright well we'll send you back for a CT scan, and before you start to panic I've spoken with Dr. Cullen. With is being so late in the pregnancy the radiation shouldn't affect him. But we'll take all the proper precautions to protect him from the radiation." He said.
"Alright. Thank you, Dr. Pickerman." Charlie said, the doctor set his clipboard on the bed and wheeled me to get my scan.
…
When I came back Jasper was standing with my dad and Carlisle. My hand immediately went to pat my hair into place. Jasper saw me first, then Carlisle and my dad. They followed my wheelchair back into the curtain enclosed room.
"Dr. Pickerman and I have looked over you scan results and you have a very small concussion but it's not anything to stress about. If you go home and do as I've asked, your symptoms should be gone in the next three or four days." Carlisle said.
"Before you try to get out of it, he already told me too." Charlie said. I huffed and looked away from my dad. Jasper was standing behind my dad quietly observing. He still looked like he was always in pain. I knew why. I knew being in a hospital couldn't be easy. I also saw Carlisle's glances at him.
"Take some Tylenol for headaches. Get some rest. I'll get you out of here soon." Carlisle said, he glanced at Jasper meaningfully.
"I'm going to sign your release forms, Bella. I'll come get you when I'm done. Oh and call your mom." He said and quickly disappeared. I raised up in protest.
"Great." I dropped my head into my hands.
"You don't like your mom?" Jasper asked, gently. I jumped a little. I had temporarily forgotten he was there. I looked up at him.
"No, I love my mom. She just tends to over react about things like this." I said. He nodded and just looked at me. "Thank you by the way. I don't know how I'll ever be able to repay you. You saved ou- my child." I mentally smacked myself for almost saying our.
"There's no need. I did was I had deemed necessary." He said steadily.
"Well thank you." I said. I looked into his pained eyes. "Are you alright?"
"No harm done to me. I'm not really… fond... of hospitals." He said. That was totally understandable.
"The feeling is mutual, I put up with them for him though." I said, looking down and rubbing my belly.
"A boy." he said. I nodded. "When is he due? If you don't mind my asking." He added hastily.
"I don't mind. October second. It doesn't seem quiet real that he's almost here." I said. "His father died in the line of duty." I never said anything about his father unless it was true for both PJ and Jasper.
"I'm very sorry." Jasper said. "What's his name?" I panicked a little.
"The baby or his father?" I asked.
"The baby."
"Jeremiah. Jeremiah Axel Swan." I said. His face changed into confusion almost.
"Jeremiah." He whispered. Before he could say anything else, Charlie opened the curtain.
"Ready to go, Bells?" he asked. I nodded and looked at Jasper.
"Thank you again, Jasper." I said. Charlie looked over too, seeming to have just remembered he was in the room too.
"Thank you so, so much." Charlie stuck his hand out to shake Jasper's. Jasper set his jaw and took Charlie's hand. "Anything thing you or your family need, let me know. I mean it. You've done so much for my family today."
"That's not necessary, but thank you. I'd like to think someone would do it for me too." Jasper replied quickly snapping out of whatever trace I had put him in.
Charlie maneuvered my wheelchair for me. "Nonsense. Come on, Bella. Let's get you home." he pushed me out of the room.
"Bye Jasper." I said. I looked back at him as we rounded the corner. He stood there holding his Jacket staring at me. I gave a small wave and he disappeared from view.
…
The next few days went by slowly. I stayed either on the couch or in my bed. Dad cooked breakfast for me and brought food from the diner for lunch and dinner. Jessica brought my homework to the station after school on Friday so I wouldn't be behind.
I was sitting down to dinner with Charlie on Sunday when I thought about it.
"So I'm technically a Junior right now." I said. Charlie looked up and nodded. "But I've already taken most of the classes I'm in. The classes I haven't taken I don't need to graduate."
"What are you trying to get to, Bells?" he said.
"I was thinking about going to the school to see if I can switch into classes I don't have credits for and graduate this year. It would be a little easier on me and you with Jeremiah coming." I said.
"If that's what you want to do, I'll support you." he said. "I've been talking to Mr. Greene. I told him I was worried about you missing school when it was time. He said he'd work with us about classwork while you were out but he said that as soon as you were given permission to walk and carry your backpack that you needed to be back in school."
"That's only a couple weeks at most if I don't have a C-section." I exclaimed.
"That's what I said. So we go to talking. This is a learning curve for the entire town. You're the first pregnant teen Forks has had in almost thirty years. Forks has a marriage and family classroom. I talked him into giving you access to it. We'll wait as long as we can to get you back in school as long as you keep up with school work and keep your grade up." he said.
"Giving me access to it?" I questioned.
"Mr. Greene has agreed to let you bring Jeremiah to school with you when I can't keep him at home with me. But only on the stipulation that should he become a distraction, you can take him and his things to the marriage and family classroom. The teacher will keep an eye on him for you and it's very possible that with your permission she might use him in a couple of her lessons. I would advise that you allow that. It will be putting strain on the school by doing this and if they can get something out of it then the teacher might be more open to it."
"I understand. Do you think I could at least ask anyone that might handle him wear a mask? Except maybe Mrs. Wentzle? He could get really sick." I said. "I'm not thrilled to have to have him out of the house so regularly so young but I guess nothing happening right now is ideal."
"I understand, Bells. We'll cross all of those bridges when we come to them. I know that Mr. Greene has already informed the teachers of what will happen, I suggest you go talk to Mrs. Wentzle and start getting to know her. I've already told her if she keeps track of when she looks after him I would pay her under the table. She's essentially babysitting for us anyway."
"What did she say?" I asked.
"She said that it wasn't necessary. She was happy to look after him. I insisted." He told me. "As for if you still can't lift much for than Jeremiah when they tell us it's time to come back we'll see if someone can't help you with that." Charlie said.
"I won't have to carry a car seat for a while. I can fit in the desks now at seven months pregnant. I have these wrap around slings that I can carry him in at school." I said.
"Even then you'll have to take the car seat to the marriage and family room to have something for him to lay in while he's in there. The teachers are supposed to give you a seat near the door so you can get out pretty quick if he fusses." He said and took a deep breath. "Like I said, we'll be crossing a lot of bridges when we get to them."
"Thanks for all of your help, Dad." I said "I know this isn't easy for you. I know a lot of this wouldn't be available to me if you weren't police chief. I'm pretty lucky to have you."
"No problem, Kiddo. That's what parents are supposed to do for their kids." He said.

"You don't understand, Alice, It's her! I don't know how. I don't know why but it's her! There's no other explanation."
"Jasper that's impossible. Your wife must have died at least a hundred years ago." Alice said.
"You said yourself when you tried to find out what happened to her there was no record other than your marriage license." Rosalie said from the couch.
"I thought you said you didn't remember anything about your life except what Peter told to you." Emmett said.
"I don't I was speaking with her and she just seemed so damn familiar to me. Then she told me the baby's name and the memory came to me. We were on horses talking about baby names and we decided on Coralyn Grace and Jeremiah Axel." I said.
"Do you know how crazy you sound?" Rose asked.
"I know it's crazy. Here let's see if this helps." I pulled my phone out and dialed Peter's number.
"Who are you calling?" Alice asked.
"Peter. You know everything he knows about my Isabella. If Edward has been listening, he'll know what memory I've seen." I looked at my quiet brother. He nodded.
"Hey brother! It's been a while since Char and I have heard from you. What's going on? Something wrong?" he asked. I put him on speaker.
"No. I don't know actually. Listen I'm here with the Cullens and I need to pick your brain for a second. You busy?"
"Never too busy for my brother. Hello Cullen clan. Whatcha need?"
My brothers and sisters made some noise of greeting respectively.
"I know I've asked before and you've given me everything you had, but I think somethings changed. I need you to make sure I'm not going insane."
"Ask away."
"What's my wife's name?"
"Isabella Marie Whitlock."
"What was her maiden name?"
"She had a severe case of amnesia when you met and couldn't remember but I know it to be Swan." He paused and I heard a gasp on his end. "Hey that's new." Alice and Rose's jaws had dropped and Emmett was smiling goofily.
"Yes it is. What were we going to name our children?"
"Jeremiah Axel Whitlock, for the baby that your mother miscarried and Coralyn Grace Whitlock. What's going on?" I ignored his question.
"What color horses were we riding when we decided?"
"One black and white paint, Pistol. And one black with three stockings, October." I looked at Edward. His face had changed to shock when he heard this. My siblings were looking at him too.
"He's right. That's the memory Jasper had. To a T." Edward remarked.
"Of course I'm right! Now someone tell me what the hell is going on."
"I remembered that stuff. I found her Peter. I found her!"
"Char and I'll be there in thirty-six hours." He said and hung up.
"How is this possible?" Edward asked? "How is your human wife from 1963 still alive?" he stressed the year.
"I don't know." I said and sat on the arm of the chair Alice was in.
"What are you going to do?" Esme came down stairs.
"I don't know."
"Carlisle will help us figure it out for now, we have to be careful."
AN: So here it is. I had to cut it off here. I tried to keep going bet the next good place to stop was another chapter away. Expect another update soon!
