Kairi walked into the school and went straight to her locker, putting her books into the locker.

She closed it when she turned around she saw Mike Newton.

"H-h-hello." she said, shyly.

Mike always did give her a creepy vibe on him, at first she just thought it was something that boys did when they liked someone, but eventually she learned that it wasn't normal since Eric never appeared out of thin air like this.

"How have you been feeling since yesterday?"

"I'm fine…."

"That's good…." he said, scratching at the back of his blonde hair, "um…so you know about prom, right?"

Kairi nodded, who didn't know that prom was basically around the corner. Everyone did, Kairi just didn't have any interest in it.

"Would you like to come with me?"

Kairi wrinkled her nose at the thought of her and Mike going out to Prom, but everyone knows that Jessica liked Mike.

"Wh-what about Jessica?"

"What about her?" he asked her.

"I think she'll really want to go out with you to the prom, you should ask her."

"Oh, um sure."

Kairi walked passed him, it might be rude of her but Mike Newton hd always scared her from his constant stares at her. So she tried her best to avoid him at all times.

But this was one of the times she couldn't avoid at all.

She headed to her first class and just before she went in, she bumped into Bella, who smiled at her.

"How are you feeling?" she asked her, "I was worried…"

Kairi felt touched, despite Bella not knowing about her past completely, she still worried about her.

"I've had my better days." she agreed, "But I've had my worse too. So things considering, I'm not too bad."

Bella gave me a small smile, this time I study her face. It didn't help that Alice was smug about something and Edward had left to get better feeding so he wouldn't tore her throat out.

She really was pretty, with chocolate brown eyes and a sharp face, plain it may be. But she was pretty. Long curly brown hair to the bit of her back. She wore casual clothes, which was to Kairi's taste.

At least she was real, and not like Jessica.

As far as being the popular girl in school, at least Jessica wasn't all that bad. But Kairi felt like she was at least snobby most of the time.

"Going in?"

Kairi nodded. "Yeah, I'm coming."

Kairi and Bella walked into the classroom, which was biology. Or as Kairi preferred to call it, Science. It just sounded cooler to her that way.

She sat at the back like always because she preferred to sit at the back to zone out. Biology didn't interest her much.

The only glasses that interested her were English and music. But that was it.

After graduation she hopes to become a photographer or an author. While she did loved her music, it was more of a hobby for her along with singing and dancing. But writing stories and traveling to different places was one of her big things to do.

At least before she becomes a vampire.

But again, she could do that after she becomes one too.

Kairi took science stuff out and neatly put them on the table. Her science notebook in front of her, which was a notebook of the british comedy show, Big Bang Theory, her pencil case beside her notebook and her science book which went to the other side of her notebook.

She saw Edward speaking to Bella, so she listened closely.

"Hello, Bella."

'Smooth, Ed.' Kairi couldn't help but think to herself.

"Are you speaking to me again?"

Kairi wondered what that was about, Edward didn't speak to Bella? But then it hit her.

He was trying to protect her from his kind, but Kairi knew Edward was smitten with Bella. She would not be surprised if they were mates.

"No, not really." Edward said.

KAiri heard Bella take a deep breath as if to calm herself and asked, "What do you want, Edward?"

Kairi could almost imagine her big brother's serious face he was giving Bella as he said, "I'm sorry. I'm being very rude but it's easier this way."

Kairi zoned out of the conversation, she had no interest in romance drama.

Let alone high school drama.

The day went on for a drag for her, the only thing that kept her sane was her music and her book. She didn't speak much to anyone today. She'd rather be in her own mind to keep herself sane.

Until she went to her locker to get her books for her next class when Bella came to her.

"Oh, hi, Bella."

"I'm going to Los Angeles with Jessica and Angela. Want to come?"

Kairi crocked her head sideways, "Why? If it's prom shopping, I'm not interested. Dresses don't apply to me much to my sister's dismay."

That made Bella giggle at this, "How come?"

"It ain't lady like or something like that." laughed Kairi.

"I'm not really going for that either. I'm just going to this bookstore."

Kairi thought about it, it's been awhile since she bought herself a new book. While dress shopping wasn't in her big to do list, buying a new book was. She really needed to buy this book, Stephen King on Writing. She heard how good it was and figured it would help her with a lot of her own writing.

"I guess I can come, but I would have to ask my daddy and mom."

"Of course. Let me know what you decide. We'll be going on a week from Saturday."

Kairi nodded as she closed her locker's door and left down the hall. If Bella had been interested in her as a friend, then why did everyone else judge her like the kids on the island did?

But Bella never asked her about what happened with Billy or the stories about her being abused. She just seemed nicer than most kids her age.

After the end of the day, she looked up into the forest to see a deer, she grabbed her camera from her bag and aimed it at the beautiful woodland creatures and took a pic of them.

She smiled as she walked to the car where her big brothers and sister were waiting.

"Bambi, whatcha ya got?" Emmett asked her, "something juicy?"

Kairi rolled her eyes as he wrapped an arm over her shoulders. "Of course not, just a deer. Big dummy."

He roared with laughter as he ruffled her hair with his hand, much to her annoyance.

But no matter what, he was still her big brother and she loved him to pieces.

And she knew he would always keep her safe.

As soon as she got home, she went upstairs and listened to a writing podcast in peace before her mom and daddy could come for dinner.

The door opened and she looked up to see her daddy so she removed her headphones.

"It's dinner, sweetheart."

"Daddy..can I ask you something?"

"Of course, what is it?" he asked as he went and sat on the bed beside her.

KAiri took a deep breath in, "You know Charlie Swan's daughter, Bella, right?"

He nodded. "Where is this going?"

"Well ... .she asked me if I could go to seattle with her and some of the other girls."

Her daddy looked at her in surprise at this request, but usually Kairi never had any interest in going anywhere with other girls to go shopping, let alone seattle.

"Promise me you'll be careful then and you can go."

Kairi beamed, "I promise!" and with that being said, she gave him a hug, which he returned with a small chuckle.

She was just glad to have a good day for once…..
