Peter and MJ finally made it back home with the newest addition to their family. In truth, it wasn't easy getting back home with all the reporters and cameramen stationed outside the hospital. They began bombarding them with all kinds of questions, but they managed to endure it.
"She's beautiful," said MJ, smiling baby daughter, who was currently giggling in her arms.
"Just like our other beautiful daughters," said Peter, smiling down at May and April.
MJ carried her towards the crib and settled her inside it. She couldn't help but smile at Annie as she began to fall asleep.
"We'll get to experience all those things we missed with May and April," she said as she stroked Annie's cheek with a finger.
MJ then yawned.
"Okay, I think someone else needs a nap," Peter chuckled. "Let's get you to bed."
Then, in a sense of nostalgia, Peter couldn't help but lift MJ off her feet with one hand. Much to her amusement, he did the same thing when they recently got married.
"You know how to sweep the girl off her feet, Tiger," MJ smirked.
"I never got any complaints," Peter smiled as he carried her to the bedroom. "Now you get some sleep; you must be exhausted after everything you went through."
MJ nodded and soon drifted off to sleep.
Peter then entered the living room and began preparing something to eat for the girls.
"Mommy looks pretty exhausted," said May.
"It's a big job bringing new life into the world; you bet it's exhausting," said Peter.
"Was she like that when May was born?" April asked.
Peter shook his head. "No, she could barely get any night's sleep from crying so much. To be honest, I don't know which one of us suffered more, me or your mother? That's why she's so excited about having Annie; she gets to do all the stuff she missed, but that doesn't mean she doesn't love you any less."
"We know, Papa," April nodded.
"We wish we experience that with Mommy as well," said May.
"That's good. Now let's get something down the two of you before both of you collapse with exhaustion," Peter smiled.
"So, have you finished writing that new paper?" April asked curiously.
"You mean the one about the multiverse theory?" said Peter, and April nodded. "Just have to finish off a few things first. It's not easy trying to explain one's fear while trying not to give away that they've experienced it."
"Do you think it will help you get your second PhD?" May asked.
Peter had applied for another PhD, and the science community was rather interested in his multiverse theory.
"I don't know, but I doubt it can hurt," Peter smiled.
Unfortunately, things did not stabilise immediately, as an incursion appeared, combining the 616 and 1610 universes. It started when Doctor Strange, Doctor Doom, and Molecule Man confronted the Beyonders in a last-ditch attempt to save the multiverse.
This resulted in both universes fighting one another, trying to survive.
"This is crazy," said Gwen. "We just save the multiverse, and then we get attacked?"
"Billy did mention incursions that were destroying other universes," said Peter. "Maybe this has something to do with it."
"Where are MJ and the girls?" Gwen asked.
"The safe in the Nest with Teresa figured is possibly the safest place in the city."
"I'm surprised you didn't get into costume and join us?"
"She was tempted, but she's still breastfeeding, and I don't want the girls to be alone."
"Where are Scarlet Spider and Silk?"
"They're helping on the other side of the city. Out of all the universes that we had to fight, it had to be Miles'."
"I know they help you out, but now they're trying to eliminate us."
"I know, but I still like to know how all this happened."
Reed had begun gathering scientists and heroes, but his counterpart from the 1610 universe, who called himself the Maker, only planned to save himself and the Cabel. He launched a devastating attack that tore their liferaft in two, causing Sue and the kids with them to perish.
Peter and Gwen were saved from oblivion by Cyclops, who merged with the Phoenix Force and also saved Peter Quill, Carol, who now goes by the name of Captain Marvel, Black Panther and Jane Foster, who is now the new Thor.
"What just happened?" Peter asked.
"I think we all would like to know that," said Jane.
"I was able to pull you to safety just before the collision between the two Earths," said Cyclops.
"But why us specifically?" Quill asked.
"Because you all will be needed," he said.
"And I suggest you all get comfortable," said Reed. "When the liferaft was attacked, the controls were damaged; we can no longer open it from the inside."
"You mean we have to wait until someone on the other side opens it?" Carol stared. "But if everything has been destroyed, then we're going have to wait a very long time."
"You do not have to fear about waiting," said Cyclops. "For the Earth will be recreated."
"And how do you know all this?" Quill asked.
"He has the powers of the Phoenix, and that's how," said Black Panther.
"Uh, isn't that a bit of concern?" Gwen asked. "If memory serves, the Phoenix Force has a way of corrupting the mind."
"You don't have to fear; this time, I'm prepared," said Cyclops. "And we may very well need this power because the one that is going to rebuild the earth is none other than Doctor Doom."
"Victor?!" Reed stared. "I thought he was dead."
"No, but he came close," said Cyclops. "Somehow, he's managed to acquire the powers of the Beyonder."
"So you're saying that the powerful egomaniac now has the powers of a God; this is getting better and better," said Peter.
"And I think we all know what he's going to do first after he rebuilt the earth," said Gwen.
"And there's nothing we can do," said Reed.
Doom has certainly used the Beyonder's powers to create a whole new Battleworld out of what remained from the incursions. However, he had made it in his image and mind-wiped all the people, making them worship him as a God.
He had also created a police force called the Thor Corp and made Sue, his wife and her children believe he was their father. In this whole new reality, MJ was now Sue's handmade and catered to her every whim.
"Thank you, Mary Jane," said Sue as MJ brushed her hair. "I know that you wish to spend some time with your new baby daughter."
"It is my pleasure to serve you, my lady," she said.
"How is your husband?"
"Paul is doing just fine, but he seemed to spoil the children to a fault."
"And that's a problem?"
"May and April have such brilliant minds, but he doesn't do anything to cultivate them. He seems to be under the impression that women should serve."
"I could speak to my husband about this if you wish?" said Sue.
"Oh, I do not wish to bother Lord Doom, my lady, with such a trivial matter," said MJ frantically. "I'm sure he has far more important things to do than sorting out my family issues."
"Indeed, I do," said Doom as he entered the room.
"Lord Doom," said MJ, quickly bowing.
"You may go; I wish to speak to my wife in private," he said.
"At once, my lord."
MJ then quickly scampered off, ensuring not to make eye contact with Doom.
"You really shouldn't frighten her like that, my love; she's a sweet girl," said Sue.
"And smart enough to know that I have better things to do," said Doom. "As you all know, my will has us live in such prosperity. I would make sure that nothing deprives my people of the peaceful lives I have created for them."
"And everyone is so grateful for you, my love," Sue nodded.
Doom then made his way over to the balcony. "Still, I feel as if there is trouble on the horizon."
"Surely nothing in the universe can threaten you, my love."
"There will always be threats. It doesn't matter whether they are large or small, but I refuse to have anything that I have created to be destroyed in a blink of an eye."
"It was my heart knowing that you were here to protect us."
Everyone in the liferaft noticed that time seemed to stand still for them, and none felt hungry or thirsty.
Reed walked over to Peter, sensing he was troubled. "You're right about your family?"
Peter nodded. "Just a few days ago, we were happy, and then this happened."
"It does seem unfair," Reed nodded. "You're not the only one in the same boat; I'm also worried about my family, Peter. If Doom does have the powers of the Beyonder, there is no telling what he can do."
"And there's nothing we can do to stop unless someone opens this thing from the outside," said Peter.
No sooner had he said that when the doors opened, and they stepped outside, they met with Doctor Strange, who apparently was now Doom's sheriff. Most surprisingly, Peter was face-to-face with Miles.
"Miles?" Peter stared.
"Hey, Pete, never thought we would meet again so soon," said Miles.
Miles then explained that he managed to survive the destruction of his universe by hitchhiking on the Cabal's liferaft. They also discovered they had been in stasis for eight years, but to them and, only a few days.
Strange then explained what had happened, that Doom was the God of Battleworld and everything always worshipping as such. However, what struck Reed pretty hard was that Doom took his wife or his own and raised his children as his own.
"Somehow, this does not surprise me," said Reed.
"This Doom guy really hates him, doesn't?" said Quill.
"Oh, you pretty much blame Reed for everything, even though most of it is his fault," said Peter.
"So what are we going to do?" Gwen asked.
"I think first we need to gather more information," said Reed. "I don't think any of us are quite capable of facing Doom, considering how all-powerful he is now."
"I agree," said Cyclops. "I bet I'll only be able to call my own, and that will only be with the Phoenix Force."
"And we should really rely upon it," said Thor.
"We should also get a lay of the land," Black Panther suggested.
"Maybe we should also try and find out how Doom got this power in the first place; then maybe we can reverse it somehow," said Peter.
"You and me can handle that," said Reed.
"You will also need my help," said Strange.
"But aren't you loyal to Doom?" Carol frowned. "Why are you helping us?"
"I admit I have my misgivings, but I can tell that you're telling the truth, and I agree that no man should have such power," said Strange.
"Then it looks like we know our assignments," said Gwen.
"We should also be wary of the Maker," said Miles.
"And who is the Maker?" Peter asked.
"He's the Reed Richards from my universe. He was a hero once, but then he went mad. He was the one that attacked your liferaft."
"I must say I'm not looking forward to battling against an alternate version of myself," said Reed.
"This trip just gets weirder and weirder," said Quill.
"You think this is where you've seen nothing yet," said Gwen.
With that, they all went their separate ways.
A battle soon commenced with the Thor Corp against Thanos, the Cabal and the Maker. That was until Doom appeared and used his power to crush them. Cyclops soon joined the fight and used the powers of the Phoenix against Doom, and admittedly, they were evenly matched.
However, Doom eventually overpowered him and ordered everyone to surrender. Strange, however, intervened, transporting all the survivors to safety, but at the cost of his own life.
MJ was at home with her husband, Paul Rabin; they had just returned from Sheriff Strange's funeral. She was now trying to change Annie's diaper.
"Such a tragedy and no one knows who killed him?" said Paul.
MJ shook her head. "No, they don't; then I can tell you that Lady Susan's children are adamant about finding the culprit and making them pay."
"I bet it was one of those invaders we've been hearing about," said Paul.
"Whatever it was, it was certainly a brutal attack, at least according to Lady Susan," said MJ as she finished stamping the diaper on. "There you go, my angel, all better now."
Annie giggled as she began pulling on MJ's head, much to her amusement. However, she carried her over towards Paul and began crying up a storm.
"Not again," said Paul.
"I don't know why she gets like this every single time I bring her towards you," said MJ, confused.
"Neither do I," said Paul. "I mean, all I do is just stand here."
"Maybe she doesn't like how you treat our daughters," MJ suggested.
Paul sighed. "Mary Jane, we've been over this. The girls are smart, no doubt about that, but what do they hope to accomplish? Lord Doom provides us with everything we want, but how are they supposed to compete with that? It would be better if they spent time acting like proper ladies, especially May."
"Paul, short daughters are capable of great things," said MJ.
"I wish I was so certain."
Reed and the Maker spent a lot of time together trying to find a solution, but they spent most of the time arguing.
While they were trying to figure something out, Peter and Miles began talking.
"So you've got another daughter now," said Miles.
"Yep, Annie Mary Parker," said Peter proudly. "That was until we landed in this mess."
"I'm sure we'll come up with some way to sort things out," said Miles. "Though I don't look forward to speaking with my dad. He blames me for my mother's death, and before all this happened, he discovered that I'm Spider-Man."
"I'm sorry to hear that," said Peter. "So, how's my family back in your universe?"
"Oh, great, as it turned out, you didn't die."
"What?"
Miles nodded. "Apparently, you manage to regenerate, though no one knew this then. It was a bit of a shock."
"So where am I now?"
"After you gave me your web shooters, he drove off into the sunset with my Mary Jane. They wanted to live somewhere quiet, now that everyone knows his identity."
"At least one of us managed to get some peace and quiet," Peter smiled.
"And I thought our universe was a rollercoaster," said Gwen. "Still, can't wrap my head around the fact that your Reed Richards is this mad scientist."
"He's part of the reason the Fantastic Four in my universe split up," said Miles. "Johnny actually lived at your place for a while pretending to be your cousin."
"Whoa, did not see that coming."
Reed and the Maker then approached them.
"Peter, we have a job for you three," said Reed.
"So you guys finally agreed on something," said Gwen.
"Grudgingly," said Maker. "We need you to infiltrate Doom's abode to find the source of his power."
"So you don't think it's a part of his being?" said Miles.
"No, he's tried harnessing such power before that has never ended well," said Reed. "I'm betting that he's only siphoning off that power somehow, but I have no idea what it could be."
"Don't worry, we'll find it," said Peter.
"You had better, for all our sakes," said Maker.
Reed then handed them a device. "This device will lead you to the source. Do not fail us."
Soon, the three of them made their way to Castle Doom; fortunately, it was not heavily guarded as most of the forces were trying to stomp out rebellion from across the land.
"You know, I thought it would be harder to sneak into the stronghold of a god," said Miles.
"He may have godlike powers, but let's not forget that he's still a man inside," said Gwen.
"An egotistical man who sees himself as the smartest man alive," said Peter.
"Guards coming," Gwen hissed.
They quickly dived into the nearest room they could find, unaware that it was currently occupied.
They heard a small gasp and saw MJ standing there in her nightgown.
"MJ," Peter gasped.
"Who are you?" MJ frowned.
Peter removed his mask, confused. "Mary Jane, it's me, Peter."
MJ still looked at them, confused.
Gwen then leaned in towards Peter. "Don't forget Doom wiped everyone's memories. She properly doesn't realise the two of you are actually married."
"We don't mean you any harm, ma'am," said Miles quickly. "We're just passing through."
They then suddenly heard the cries of a baby.
"Oh no, it's Annie," MJ moaned.
She then rushed towards the cot where Annie was sleeping, and Peter followed on instinct. MJ was about to grab hold of Annie, but Peter beat her to it. She was about to protest but saw that Annie had calmed down when Peter held her in his arms.
"How did you do that?" MJ asked.
Peter frowned. "Do what?"
"That," she said, pointing at Annie. "She's never been that relaxed."
"I'm just that good with kids," Peter shrugged.
They were then interrupted when Paul went into the room in his robe. "Mary Jane, what's going on? I thought I heard Annie…" He then stopped when he saw Peter and the others. "Intruders! Sound the alarm!"
Peter quickly fired his web shooter, firing some webbing that covered his mouth and rushed over and knocked him out.
"Paul!" MJ cried.
"Sorry, but we are on a mission," said Peter.
MJ immediately took Annie from him. "Then you had better go before I call the guards."
Peter sighed and put his mask back on, and he and the others left the room.
"I'm really sorry, Pete," said Gwen.
"Gives us all the more reason to sort this mess out," he said.
Using the device that Reed had made, they were able to track the power source in the courtyard.
"According to the device, we should be right on top of the power source," said Peter.
"You're saying it's underground," said Miles.
"Perhaps there's some sort of entrance under the statute," said Gwen.
"There is a trapdoor," said a voice. They turned and saw that Valeria emerged from behind a tree. "I found it earlier. I can only assume you're also looking for the power source. I've had my people searching for it, but let me see that…"
She then snatched the tracking device from Peter's hand and examined it. "As I thought, this was designed by the same person who sent that drone. They might as well have put their name on it. Who built this?"
"Uh, Reed Richards," said Peter.
"Never heard of him. Next time you see him, tell him I said this is shoddy work, and he should get his act together."
"Sure," said Peter as she handed advice and looked at the others, who merely shrugged. "So, are you going to join us on this expedition?"
"No, I won't be," she said.
"Why not?" Miles asked.
"I've already got three Spiders doing it for me, and I am not emotionally equipped for this yet. But before you go, I have a couple of questions for you. You were on that vessel we found?"
"One of them, and it's called the liferaft," said Peter.
"Okay, and my second question is, did any of you kill Stephen Strange?"
"No, that was not us."
"Just as I just as I thought," she said.
After they parted ways, they descended down the trapdoor, which led to a room filled with light and inside, they met Molecule Man. Apparently, he was the true source of Doom's power and was only siphoning off of him.
He was happy to share any information exchange for food, and Miles gave him a hamburger in his pocket. Unfortunately, the hamburger was three weeks old, but Molecule Man didn't seem to mind.
There were other plans, such as Thanos, to reveal the truth to the Shield, who was, in fact, a giant alternate version of Ben Grimm. Doom is sent into the farthest reaches of his kingdom, trying to protect it from outside threats, but it is only to keep them as far away as possible. He had also done the same with Johnny, turning him into the sun.
Upon realising the truth, Ben went on a rampage.
Namor and Black Panther had made it to the Isle of Agamotto and, using a special key provided by Strange, led to a treasure trove of powerful weapons. Among them were the Siege Courageous and an Infinity Gauntlet, which are a few items that would be effective against Doom.
Doom was also dealing with an uprising courtesy of the Prophet, who was, in fact, the inhuman Maximus. Things got worse for him when Sinister, one of his loyal Barons, turned traitor and turned on Baroness Pryor before he himself was taken down by Baron Apocalypse.
Jane convinced her fellow Thors to turn against Doom, and Maestro joined the battle until Ben destroyed it. This meant that Doom was now facing a full-on war and was called upon to crumble by the second.
Peter and the others were watching the chaos unfold.
"Man, it's an all-out war," said Miles.
"I doubt that Reed would do something like this," said Peter.
"His crazy counterpart, on the other hand, would," said Gwen.
Peter looked towards the castle, thinking about MJ.
"You're worried about her and the girls, aren't you?" Gwen assumed.
"You know me too well."
"I do have your memories, remember."
"I know that if we win here today, we fix everything, but I'm still worried about the here and now," said Peter.
"Reed only asked us to find the power source; he didn't say what we could do afterwards," said Miles.
Gwen looked at Peter. "Peter, if you want to go, go. I'm sure me and Miles can take care of things here."
"Okay, but when I'm certain MJ and the girls are safe and coming straight back," he promised.
Peter then swung off towards the castle.
Enemy forces had already breached the castle gates and were rather brutal, with all the servants slaughtering them or ravaging them. Peter helped as he could, but his main focus was trying to find MJ and his daughters.
"Get away!" May's voice yelled.
Peter looked down and saw May and April, the latter carrying Annie in her arms. The enemy forces approached them and raised their weapons, but Peter swooped in and took them down before they could strike.
"You girls all right?" Peter asked, looking at them.
The girls just nodded, looking at him speechless.
"That was amazing," said May.
"Thank you for saving us," said April gratefully.
"No problem, but where are your parents?" Peter asked.
"Mommy told us to run," said May.
"Our father wanted us to stick together, but then we got separated," said April as she tried to calm Annie down.
"Then let's see if we can't find," said Peter.
They made their way through the chaos until they eventually found MJ and Paul, and they were both sworn by enemy soldiers. Peter instantly jumped in to save them and took them down in just a few seconds.
"You again," MJ stared.
"Mommy!" May cried as she and April ran up to her.
"You're all right," MJ cried, hugging the girls.
"He saved us," said April, looking at Peter.
MJ looked up at Peter. "I can't thank you enough."
"Thanks, him?" said Paul. "He's probably the reason why the castle's been invaded."
"Paul, he saved our girls; some gratitude wouldn't go amiss," said MJ.
Paul looked as if he wanted to argue, but one look from MJ met and fell silent.
MJ then looked at Peter again. "But why help? You don't even know even know us."
"I know you better than you think," said Peter. "I promise you it will all make sense soon."
"Well, thank you nonetheless," said MJ. "But you never told us your name."
"It's Peter."
"Thank you, Peter."
Both Reed and the Maker managed to locate Molecule Man, but the Maker turned on his counterpart, devolving him into a monkey. However, Molecule Man took him down and restored Reed to normal.
Doom then reappeared, intending to eliminate his greatest rival, but Molecule Man took a majority of his power to make the fight even more fair. During the battle, Doom finally admitted that Reed would have done a much better job restoring everything.
Upon hearing this, Molecule Man transferred the Beyonders' powers to Reed, who then used them to restore everything.
There were some side effects Miles found himself on Earth-616, including his friends and family. His mother had also been restored to life in gratitude for giving Molecule Man the burger.
"Still feels weird no longer been in my universe," said Miles as everyone met in the Nest.
"Weird is part of the job, Miles," said Gwen.
"So what happens now?" Miles asked. "I mean, this Earth has already got a Spider-Man."
Peter smiled. "That is entirely up to you, but we've got two Captain Americas and two Thors. I can't see why we can't have two Spider-Men; that's if you still want to be a superhero."
"You really mean it?" Miles asked, smiling.
"You can be a part of our little gang as well," said Gwen. "I mean, there's five of us already, and I don't think the others would mind having some extra help."
"I'll have to think about it," said Miles.
"Take all the time you need," said Peter.
Peter then returned home, and the girls immediately hugged him.
"You girls all right?" Peter asked.
"Yep," they said.
"We're all doing fine, Tiger," said MJ as she approached him with Annie in her arms. "I know seeing me with another man wasn't easy, but thanks for being there."
Peter smiled and ran his hand through her long redhead. "I'll always be there for you, MJ, no matter what."
They then kissed passionately while Annie giggled in MJ's arms.
