Chapter 50
Maura woke up to light filtering through the window.
She was disoriented, and it was late, but she smiled to herself when she tried to move. She was naked, draped over Jane's warm naked body, and sore on all the right places.
Careful not to wake Jane up, Maura moved to get out of bed. She should not have worried, Jane was clearly passed out.
Their unhurried lovemaking had gone until the wee hours of the morning, and Maura was not even surprised that she herself had completely missed the hour.
But it had been worth it. So very much worth it…
And it was a Saturday, it was not like any of them had nowhere to be at a specific time.
The chill of the morning made her skin crawl, and she picked her discarded clothes quietly before stopping by the bathroom and moving to the kitchen to get some coffee going.
Jane opened her eyes groggily, the light of the day forcing her to close them immediately. She extended her arm in bed, feeling cold without Maura's body warmth next to her. And then the memories of the previous night woke her up completely. She knotted her eyebrows not seeing any sign from Maura, the bed cold, meaning Maura had been up for a while.
The apartment was quiet.
Jane stopped by the bathroom to wash her face, and to try to get her wild hair under control. Her skin was still tingling in all the right places from the incredible sensations Maura had woken up in her. Jane smiled to herself, tying her hair in a low ponytail and moving to the kitchen.
Jane opened the door and was met by the delicious smell of coffee, and by the image of Maura with her back to her by the living room window, peering outside, a mug of coffee in her hand.
"G'morning…" Jane offered in her raspy voice, positioning herself flush behind Maura, her arms crossing in Maura's front and pulling the shorter woman against her, while Jane kissed the crown of Maura's head and craned her face down to bury her nose on the crook of Maura's neck, inhaling Maura's unique scent.
"Good morning…" Maura responded, the smile audible in her soft voice, her body melting into Jane's tall frame.
Jane moved her hand to hold Maura's hand that had the coffee mug, and brought the mug to her own lips.
"Hmmmm…." Jane hummed, content, closing her eyes as the warm and strong beverage revived her.
Maura placed the mug by the coffee table, and turned into Jane's arms, pulling Jane's head down for a proper good morning kiss, her arms crossed behind Jane's neck, Jane's arms crossed behind Maura's back, keeping them tightly closer.
"Sorry for being a bad influence. It is almost 11AM…" Jane offered with a smirk when they broke the kiss, taking in Maura's impossibly beautiful face, even without any makeup.
"Or a very good influence… It is a Saturday, Jane. As far as I know, there is nowhere we need to be on a schedule today, is there?"
"No, not on a schedule. But I want to make sure you list everything that you are missing so we can get it. We need to make sure you have everything you need for this experiment to be successful…" Jane explained with a smile, kissing Maura again.
"Shower, brunch and some shopping them?" Maura proposed, when they broke the kiss.
"Can we shower together?" Jane asked, mischief in her eyes.
"That can certainly be arranged…" Maura smiled back.
They had a late brunch, their shower together having delayed them leaving home for the best reasons.
"God, I was starving!" Jane mentioned, around a forkful.
"Manners, Jane…" Maura admonished, chuckling. "And I am not surprised, after all of our rather vigorous activities…"
Maura laid out some basic rules to Jane. If they were to cohabitate, Jane would need to at least attempt to keep a healthy morning routine of having proper breakfast.
"But you don't need to wake up early because of me, Maura. You are not a housewife! You are a full-time writer!"
"I will gladly wake up early with you, Jane, not because I need to, but because I want to have the precious few minutes before you go to work in your company, okay? I promise I will not be in your way. I can shower after you leave, I can do yoga after you leave, but I would love to at least join you for a proper breakfast in the morning…"
"Okay, I can agree with that…" Jane admitted.
Maura then proceeded to do grocery shopping, considering that new arrangement for breakfast, as well as the things she would need for her other meals. Jane had been super considerate of her needs, but Maura wanted to take Jane's needs and wants into account too.
"Maura, I told you, I don't expect you to do anything around the house. You have a full-time job as a writer, that happens to be done at home. We can do the shores together on the weekend." Jane insisted, when they were back home, and they had just finished storing everything on their appropriate places.
"I appreciate your concern, Jane. But what you see as a housewife job, for me, it is the basis for me not to be obsessing over something. Getting things in order take no time if I do one thing a day, and it will give me peace of mind to allow me to focus on my writing instead of obsessing over something else like the dishes or the laundry."
"So put me on a schedule, so we share the burden of the day-to-day chores…"
Maura didn't mind doing things since she would be home, but she could appreciate how Jane felt about getting her fair share of the home chores.
So Maura laid out some simple rules that she thought would help, like always placing the clothes to be washed on the romper, not leaving damp towels spread around the house, not leaving clothes or shoes spread around the house. Maura was happy to take care of doing the laundry, and cooking some of their meals, and putting the trash out. And they could always do the heavier house cleaning over the weekend, together, when task split would make things faster.
Maura also bought a robot vacuum and mop combo to experiment with, without telling Jane. She would try it during the business days to see if it would help with the chores without interfering with her writing.
They prepared everything they could, that weekend, for their experiment to be a success. Because both were vested in making it work. They wanted to be together, and they both were committed to be intentional about what they had to do.
