If there was one thing in his life that Bell could never bring himself to regret, it would be starting his YouTube channel. It was an innocent enough thing at the start, just a young boy playing games he enjoyed and sharing it with the world.

(In this case, the 'world' numbered eleven, half of which were likely his aunt.)

Had life progressed normally, it would have ended there. He would have moved on and gone on to—he wasn't going to say bigger or better, because that wasn't true—but different things. Perhaps he would have tried his hand at university, like his aunt had wanted; perhaps he would have selected a trade. It was hard to say because life didn't progress normally.

Which is sort of where his story starts. (Sort of.)

It's been a few years since those first videos. (One, two, count 'em, five, six, seven. Had it really been seven, already?) He'd never had the heart to delete them, but he'd also never had the stomach to leave them up for the public. (Gods, if you could hear the things he'd said, you'd understand. Talk about embarrassing.)

The start of his career happened days and months and years after his first video and really? It was through no fault of his own.

His grandfather had barged into his room one day, finding him in a rather precarious position (and no, not like that—even if that's probably what the old man had expected): his mouth hung open, an unfinished sentence dangling in the air not far from the headphones he'd yanked from his ears.

"Uhm," was all the man had been able to come up with in those first few moments. He'd (evidently and) eventually managed to gather himself enough to glance around Bell's setup, taking it all in, before shamelessly asking if he was "recording one of those pornographies?" (And if so, could he be involved?)

The answer, on both counts, was no.

He made sure to cut that from the video.

Over time, his grandfather became more and more interested in what he was doing and Bell, wanting to share his passion with somebody else, spoke more than he probably should have on the subject. Truly, with the old coot involved, there was no reason for things to work out as well as they had.

And then, eventually, he joined in and, really, everything starts from that day.

(Well, not everything. This story didn't, of course. That would be ridiculous. That was years ago. Nobody had that kind of time.)

The story, for those who care, actually starts right now.

With a string of private messages.

And with an announcement.

Bell squinted at his screen, parsing through his options as Twitter sat open on his other monitor. He was ignoring it again, something of a habit he'd settled into as of late. It wasn't that he hated his fans, he didn't, he just really couldn't deal with them all right now. He still wasn't entirely certain he was making the right decision, but it felt like something he needed to do.

A sigh came through his headset and he quickly flicked his gaze to the discord panel to see which icon lit up. Ignis, read the name beside the small image of a will-o-the-wisp. Welf, as he knew him.

"You sure you're ready for this?"

"No," Bell answered honestly, shaking his head even though he knew Welf couldn't see it right now, "but what other choice do I have? Bills don't exactly pay themselves."

"I know, but didn't you want to branch out more? Play something else? Something that wouldn't.. "

"I did, but.. " And he sighed, because he really didn't know how to explain why he needed to do this when he was already dreading it so much.

Welf, blessedly, seemed to understand. "Don't worry, bean sprout, I've got your back. Whatever you need, I'm there."

Bell managed a smile and thanked him, grateful for having such a friend.

The cursor hovered over the small, brown and green, cubicle icon, but Bell couldn't bring himself to actually click on it.

Sighing, he closed his eyes and shook his head.

".. maybe tomorrow."

SwordPrincess is live: HARDCORE MINECRAFT 30 DAYS CHALLENGE DAY 7. 25 DAYS TIL SEASON 2 OF FAMILIA MYTH!

"Bell? Did you hear me?"

"What? Huh?" The young man in question blinked a few times and refocused on his screen, finding several pairs of eyes on him. Or, well, not him, exactly. It was impossible for them to be looking at him as he wasn't using a camera, he never had. But the effect was the same, and he slumped slightly under the attention. "Oh, I'm sorry, I must've.." He sighed and spoke up again, hopefully more clearly, to ask, "What were you saying?"

The woman on the other end didn't seem to mind too much. She was one of the players from the last season, a sort of wild card, he thinks. He didn't really recall her name – Lilah or something – but she seemed nice enough. It was a bit of a surprise, she had been fairly self-serving, but he supposed everybody projects a different image for their viewers. "The team was discussing how we'd like to handle newcomer introductions in the first episode, should we choose to do so. The tweets have been helpful to drum up attention, and because of them everybody already knows who's being added to the roster, but we wanted your input along with everybody else's."

"Oh," came his smart reply, and his eyes flicked between the various panels in the video call where he could see the faces of the others who he'd be joining alongside. "No."

The lady on the other end scrunched her eyebrows together and Bell's heart sunk, just a little, in his chest. He hoped she had a little more patience to spare. He must've been wearing on it already, but he was trying. It was just.. hard.

"No," she eventually questioned.

"No, wait yes? No. I'm sorry, I just– " He shook his head, forgetting his camera was off and disconnected—just.. precautions. The silence that followed felt longer than it was, but maybe that was simply because everybody was waiting on him to speak. "I'm not really sure, I've never done something like this. I'm.. um. I'm sure others would know better?" He thought there would absolutely be a rebuttal of some sort to that, it was weak as far as excuses go, but they let it slide.

"Of course, then I would suggest we continue as if no prior announcements were made. Some of our viewers may not have access to or use Twitter; introducing our new members will help to catch them up to speed. Are there any objections?"

"None at all! Sounds great, Lili!" That face, Bell knew. Finn, or Braver as he's called in online circles, was the server's head and founder. He also led one of the strongest groups from the previous season, the Loki familia. And he had been the one who'd reached out to Bell about joining.

The white-haired boy wasn't entirely certain how he felt about the man. He seemed nice enough, but he came across rather.. militant whilst trying to recruit Bell. Clinical. And he didn't take 'no' for an answer.

The grimace that appeared on Lili's (not Lilah's, he'd have to remember that for later) face seemed to suggest he wasn't the only one slightly put off by the guy.

The call ended not much later with a promise to meet again in a few days' time. Bell immediately closed everything down and left his apartment, walking the short distance from his home to the center of Orario. The park of Babel was a massive, wooded plot of land, established years and decades prior as a way of reconnecting the walled city with nature. It stands where the tower of Babel itself once had. Twice built, twice fallen. (The children of the gods decided to stop before thrice.)

He settled himself down on a bench and breathed a deep breath. His moment of calm was just that: a moment, for his phone almost immediately rang. Pulling it out of his pocket, a small smile tugged briefly at his lips as he read the name.

"Hey."

"How was your meeting?"

He let out a contemplative hum and settled into a more comfortable sitting position. "It was.. alright."

"Bell," the voice on the other end tried, sighing, and just like that all his excitement to talk to them dried up.

He had no desire to rehash the same argument. Again.

So, he wouldn't. Instead, he pushed the conversation elsewhere and prayed it would stay there, as he said, "How are you, aunt Fia?"

There was a noise somewhere in the background on her side – a voice some distance away or something – his aunt grumbled under her breath before barking something unintelligible at the interloper. Then, she was back to him. "I'm doing fine, hun, but– "

"That's good. I'm glad." And he was.

His aunt sighed. "Bell, can we please just– "

"Oh, shoot. Sorry, auntie, I've really gotta go, do you think we can– "

"Yeah, kid, yeah. Sure. We can talk later."

"Thanks, talk to you then, okay?"

Again, she sighed. "Okay. Goodbye. Love you always."

Bell's lips rose into a faint smile as he nodded his head. "Love you always," he agreed.

Are the newest members really the right picks for the server?

The first season of the Familia Myth server took a drastic turn when the story portion of the saga took off suddenly and without warning. The gritty and darker storyline in-laid into the otherwise normal server was what set it apart from so many other series like it. (The fact that not even the content creators are told what is going to happen only makes everything that much better.)

The first season was amazing, we can all agree on that. The second season is supposedly set to be even better, with more twists and surprises, but with the announcement of some of the newest members, is that really the case?

Are personalities like Argonaut—known for his light-hearted, easy-mode playthroughs with his grandpa where they mostly just build farms—and Antianeira and Kokonoe—two glorified cam girls joining from other games—the right move for the series moving forward? Will they truly be able to deal with the decisions that need to be made and deliver good action as the story arc progresses?

Bell drummed his fingers along the surface of his desk and blew a raspberry.

".. screw it."

Quickly adding a new tab to his browser, he needed only type out 'tw' before hitting enter. The message was drafted and submitted in a matter of moments and then he was on the clock.

Bell watched the timer tick away on his stream's playback feed, simply content to take these final moments for himself before he began. The chat was already going crazy, scrolling by far too fast for him to even attempt reading. It made sense, to a degree, as this was his first actual stream in several months. (And the only video posted in that time frame was an announcement. The announcement.)

Still, he hadn't expected this level of viewership. It was insane.

There was so much support flooding through too. Emotes, bits, donations, subscriptions, everything. It was honestly a bit much. (He wouldn't trade his viewers for the world.)

The timer on screen struck zero and Bell felt a simple grin come to his face unbidden as he greeted his chat with a quiet rasp of, "Hey, everyone."

If possible, the number of messages flooding through increased exponentially. It was so bad, in fact, that the chat panel no longer scrolled seamlessly, but instead updated in chops.

Bell chuckled into his microphone. "Y'all're crazy. Mods, could we maybe get it in slow mode? I'd like to see some names."

He hummed as his request was promptly granted, letting out a thoughtless and faint 'thank you' as he leaned forward and read some of the messages.

"No. No, sorry. We won't be playing any minecraft today. You all will get your fix of that once Familia Myth starts up in a few weeks, don't you worry. Just be patient and– oh! Hey, Fina!" He smiled to himself, his eyes crinkling a bit at their corners as he watched that particular viewer's messages stream in – one after another. Thanks to their VIP status, they weren't constricted by the message cap placed on the rest of the chat, so he was free to read all of her messages unhindered.

"Thank you, truly, thank you. Your support means the world to me and I know if Grampy was still here with us, he'd tell you all the same." In his own way, with his own words, none particularly YouTube appropriate, but nothing a little editing couldn't change. "Speaking to you all brought him so much joy, I don't think it can be overstated how much he loved this job." Then, he was laughing. Truly. Free and open. For the first time in a long time. "It's actually rather funny, but he—Grampy, that is—was sort of professionally old, if that makes sense. In all the time I knew him, he only ever mentioned three jobs he'd worked. The first, of course, was at a candy shop—he always said that's what made him so sweet. Why, then, he chose the name 'Grampy' for himself, I'll never understand."

He watched and waited as the chat scrolled by at a leisurely pace, taking the moment to drink some water before continuing. One message in particular caught his eye, a needle in the proverbial haystack, and he found himself nodding along to it.

"Yeah, actually, paruparu has the right of it. 'Grampy' comes from the grumpy cat meme. That was—oh, man. How many years has it been since we actually explained that? Props to you, paruparu. Really," he gave the viewer a few celebratory claps, chuckling as his chat followed suit—a rush of clapping emotes taking over his screen, "Yeah, yeah! That's right, great job everyone, a round of applause for Mr. Paru."

"Anyways, gramps loved that picture, saved it as the background to his phone, even. When we started this whole," he made a twirling gesture with his hands and bounced his eyebrows around, though nobody was there to see either, "shebang, he told me he wanted to be like that cat. Grumpy, but fun. Said everybody loved that cat despite its demeanor, and it wouldn't have to change who it was for anything. Grumpy Gramps was too long in his mind, so he settled for Grampy. And the rest, as they say," he finishes in elvish, "edregol"

Bell blinked twice. (Count 'em. One, two.) "We got super off track, didn't we? What were we talking about?"

He looked at chat, parsing his lips as he filtered through most of the nonsense to find the right answer.

"Ah, gramps's many jobs. Got it. Right, so, first up was the candy store. Then, of course, was his phase as a lunch lady. You heard me right, everybody," Bell didn't fight the helpless grin that spread his lips as he bobbed his head emphatically, "a lunch lady. Dress and all.)

It was all too easy to slip into the comfortable position of a storyteller, regaling his chat with some of the highlights of Zeus's life. (And man, were there a lot. Even if it was still up in the air how many of them were, y'know, true.)

Time slipped by completely outside of the grame of Bell's mind, and before long he was reaching the thirty minute mark on the stream.

He blinked owlishly at the clock when he finally noticed. "Oh." He chuckled faintly and rubbed at the back of his head—an act he always did when embarrassed on stream or video, but nobody ever saw. "I got carried away again, didn't I?"

"Um. Right." He watched as chat scrolled by some more before deciding to not even bother. Twitch chatters were always going to be weird, the oceans of the world would be long set aflame and turned to deserts by the time he made sense of the inner workings of his chatters' minds. "So, we, uh, we did that poll earlier, it's been up for close to an hour now.. "

There was a sudden du-dup! sound in his headset and Bell frowned before pulling discord up on his second monitor. "Hold on," he muttered before the stream devolved into a rapid onslaught of clicks and clacks as he typed away on his keyboard.

You're kidding me.. she's kidding me.. "

"Okay," Bell clapped his hands together, "Bit of a change of plans! The poll ended with Skyrim in the lead, so if we have time, we'll play that after, but for now.. "

He grimaced as an incoming call pinged on his other monitor. Hesitantly, he hit 'accept.'

"Hello, love," a voice silked from the other end (and his chat went crazy).

"I will end the call, so help me—"

"Okay, okay! Point made! Damn, kid, you know most people pay to have me all to themselves like this."

Bell said nothing, instead choosing to just hover his cursor over the red 'disconnect' button on his screen whilst sending bad vibes through the voice call, hoping she received them.

He could practically hear her pout as she said, "You're no fun, you know that? I bet your beautiful chatters would love for me to stay and show them how to please a–"

There was a soft, somber du-dun as the call ended. Bell didn't miss a beat.

"So.. Skyrim, yeah?" He glanced at his chat quickly as he closed out of his steam library and opened the battlenet program. "Who was that?" He shrugged. "Just some confused old woman."

Bell yawned as he answered the call, just to get under her skin. "What's taking you so long? I've been waiting in the lobby for ages."

"Don't act like nobody clipped what you said and sent it to me. Who the hell are you calling old!?"

"You?"

"I'm 28!"

"Really?"

"And just what the hell is that supposed to mean!?"

The white-haired boy cleared his throat and straightened in his seat. "So.. Overwatch?"

The line was quiet for a few more moments before the voice reluctantly agreed. "Fine," they groused, "but don't think this is over. If you weren't doing me a favor.. "

"Sure, sure." Bell verbally waved away her complaints, instead focusing on getting things rolling. HIs heart was thumping away in anticipation, already knowing who was going to be joining the call in a few short minutes. He grabbed his mouse and started to move it around his screen before grimacing and wiping his sweaty palms on his pantleg. "How do you make a party in this?"

"Have you ever played?"

"Er.. uhm.. no?"

"Yet you have it downloaded?"

"Yes?"

Aisha made a nondescript noise in the back of her throat, but moved on. "I'll handle it, just send me your info."

"Right." There were several, elongated moments where nothing happened—neither a click nor a clack to be heard. Bell only had the time to say, "Okay, so," before he was being unenthusiastically walked through where to find everything.

"Yeah, so just, y'know, send me the username and the little number and I'll add you. I'm not live or anything so you won't have to worry about it getting out there."

"You're not?"

"Nah. I'd have to, like, put on clothes for that. Totes not happening today."

Bell felt himself swallow. "So, you're.. ?"

"Naked?" He could hear that blasted grin in her voice as she confirmed, "As a newborn babe."

His face immediately felt hot and he tried desperately to fan himself off with his hand. Unfortunately, as a person, he was horribly uncoordinated. There was a loud noise that echoed through his stream and voice call, followed by a muttered string of indecipherable curses.

"Yo, Argo? You good? What happened?" She paused for several moments before inquiring, "I didn't break you, did I?"

Again, there was nothing, but then: "Nope!" Almost breathless, Bell chimed back in. "I just.. uhm.. punched my mic. A little."

Antianeira must have leaned closer to her own microphone as her next hum seemed extra sensual – like she punched the sex appeal up into the stratosphere. (Bell both did and did not appreciate it.) "Mmmmm. That so?"

"Heh. Y- Yeah."

"In such a rush to free yourself a little, huh? Work our all that horrible tension? You're quite.. argonaughty, ne?" Bell blinked at his monitor a few times before snorting. Aisha quickly joined him in laughter, chortling rather boisterously as she admitted, "Oh gods, that was horrible. I can't believe that just came out of my mouth."

"It was." A mood killer, that was for sure. Bell was grateful.

His guest let out a few more decrescendoing giggles before cutting herself off to speak. "Okay, so, just like we discussed, yeah? I'll end this call, get everything ready, and then invite you when we're good to go, 'kay?"

"I'll be here."

"Wonderful; thanks, love."

The end-call chime sounded and Bell used the remaining few minutes to distract himself with his chat. A mistake, given all that had just occurred, he should have realized what he was unleashing upon himself.

The message from Antianeira had been a surprise – mostly because it had come through his personal account on discord; one which very few people have access to. The shock didn't come from her having the info—they were both incoming members to Familia Myth, after all—but rather that she reached out to him at all.

Apparently, she knew somebody who was a fan of his and his grandfather; one who would love the chance to speak and play games with him. Normally, he'd have come up with an excuse to get out of it—playing with fans like that was like a slippery slope and a headache he didn't want to deal with. But, well, they were going to be working together more closely in the future; it would be good to have a good relationship. Plus, she personally vouched for her friend, saying it wouldn't be weird at all.

He made the decision to trust her.

He hoped it didn't come back to bite him in the ass.

The incoming call came through for the third time that night, and Bell accepted it without further ado.
