Megumi lets out a shaky breath, the cold fall air whips against his face. He cuts his gaze towards Gojo-sensei and then back to his clasped hands. He should have grabbed a pair of gloves on his way out, but Gojo-sensei was adamant about them leaving quickly.
"This is where I met Kagome," Gojo says, leaning back against the bench. Megumi raises a brow at that. There is barely any foot traffic around them, save for a couple of squirrels and birds.
"Did you save her from a curse?" He sits upright, staring at the rustling leaves. Gojo-sensei is rarely serious with him. Megumi cannot imagine Kagome-san falling for his sensei's ridiculous pickup lines. Frankly, he still cannot believe that Kagome-san is willingly in a relationship with Gojo-sensei.
"Nah, she fell from the sky and landed in my lap."
"So, she isn't with you willingly?" Megumi replies. Gojo gasps and then wraps his arms around Megumi. "S-stop it!" Megumi wiggles and pushes back, to no avail.
"I raised you better than this, Gumi!" Gojo rubs his cheek against Megumi's, whining about how cold he has turned out to be.
"Ugh, you're so embarrassing," he grumbles, his face heats up. He would sink down and die from embarrassment if anyone walked by and saw them. "Did you really bring me out here just to reminisce?" He sighs, slumping his shoulders in defeat.
"I wanted to tell you first," Gojo says, letting Megumi go. "You know, I see you and Tsumiki as my kids."
Megumi bites down on the inside of his cheek, knowing that if he tells Gojo, the man would not let him live it down. He nods in response, fixing his gaze to his shoes.
"Kagome and I would like you to come over tonight for dinner. You should see the new home, and Buyo Jr. has been moping around. It's actually kind of sad, and Gome-chan…" Gojo blows out a breath, "man, she actually cried about it."
Megumi fights back the urge to smile, but he can't help it. He misses the nekomata too, though a small part of him feels guilty. Buyo Jr. was Kagome-san's cat. He sits back up and looks at his sensei, or at least where his eyes would be if he wasn't wearing that blindfold. "I already know that you want to marry Kagome-san."
"If something ever happens to me, I want you to hide Kagome in your shadow until it's safe again."
"W-what? Nothing is going to happen to you," Megumi says with a huff. "And I don't know if I can hide Kagome-san in my shadow. What if something goes wrong?" he splutters out. The entire idea is too preposterous for him to even dwell on. Buyo Jr. going into his shadow is just a one-off thing, and just because he can hide cursed tools in his shadow does not mean he can hide people.
"Just practice on Ijichi." Gojo shrugs.
Poor Ijichi-san, Megumi thinks, rolling his eyes at such a crazy idea. "Kagome-san helped fight that special grade. I don't think she needs me to protect her." He frowns. Kagome-san, to the best of his knowledge, is not a sorcerer, though if anyone were to ask, he'd back up the claim of having some offensive reverse curse technique.
"Ah, Megumi," Gojo chides, "you're a lot stronger than you realize." Gojo lifts the blindfold, pinning him with one look. Megumi swallows back the wave of unease. "Don't tell your mother this, but I need you to step in when I'm not there. There will come a time when she can't defend herself or get away as quickly."
"Is Kagome-san sick?" If she is, then that could explain why she was not at the baseball game. Yuji was devastated, even though he tried to hide it during the game.
"The morning sickness has been taking a toll lately."
Megumi's breath catches in his throat. His body goes deathly still. "Are you…"
Gojo smiles and lowers his blindfold. "You're getting another sibling."
The admission sucker punches him in the gut. His eyes mist over and he will not cry at the revelation of how much Gojo-no, his dad trusts him.
"Can we train later today?" Resolve burns through his veins. He has to get stronger. Not just because Yuji has gotten stronger, but to protect his growing family.
Gojo places his hand on Megumi's head, ruffling up his hair. "That's my Gumi."
"I'm not practicing my technique on Ijichi-san."
Gojo snatches his hand back with a gasp. Megumi smiles. He wishes Tsumiki was awake to hear the news. He prays she wakes up soon. She should be there with them, celebrating. Megumi rolls his eyes as Gojo rants about unruly children. He stands up and stuffs his hands into his jacket.
"Come on, dad."
