"What are they doing?" Yuji asks, his voice low as he leans closer to Nobara's ear. She swats him away in favor of pushing the bushes back to get a better peek at Megumi and Buyo Jr.

"It's concerning is what it is," she says. "Megumi hogs up Buyo Jr. and doesn't let anyone else see him."

"Kagome-san doesn't seem to mind." His nose twitches from the smell of her over-priced perfume.

"That's because that woman is a freakin saint. She put up with you."

Yuji frowns and leans back. The grass underneath him tickles his palms. Idly, he plucks at the grass blades. "Thought you weren't mad anymore."

Nobara hunches her shoulders. "Not mad."

He knows that she is from the slight shake in her hands to the way her lips are down-turned in a tight line. He isn't an expert on women by any means, but there are universal signs, and her short retort tells him to back off for now.

And yet he opens his mouth anyway. "Why are you still upset - ah!" Nobara hits him, sending him flying out of the bushes. He groans, wincing at the amount of force she put behind that slap. He should have just kept his mouth shut. Yuji opens his eyes, blinking at the sight of Buyo Jr. peering down at him with a polka-dotted bow tie on. Sometimes he forgets that Buyo Jr. is some fierce nekomata when Megumi dresses him like a common house cat.

Crap. He scrambles to right himself. "Hey Megumi!," he says cheerily. "Fancy seeing you here."

"Explain yourself." Megumi crosses his arms over his chest. Yuji gulps at the sight of a prominent vein throbbing on Megumi's forehead. Perhaps going along with Nobara was a poor way to spend his day.

"You look nice today. Is that a new shirt? Really digging the wolf design," he rambles as he dusts his hands off on his baggy pants. He should have taken Todo up on his offer to see Takada at the convention.

"You have nothing better to do than to follow me around."

"What? Noooo." He scratches the back of his head, looking around the park. "I just wanted to get some fresh air. Do some bird gazing. It's a new hobby. Have you tried it? I mean, Buyo Jr. probably wants to eat the birds, but you never know." A bead of sweat slides down to his brow. His throat bubbles with nervous laughter. Megumi is unamused by his antics.

"Buyo," Megumi says, his eyes never straying from Yuji's. Buyo Jr. chirps as he transforms into his much larger form. Dread knocks at the back of his head. He read somewhere that cats like to mimic the sound of birds chirping right before they attack.

"Oi, Oi. Megumi. Buyo. Can't we talk about this? Like, isn't this irresponsible for Buyo Jr. to be transforming in broad daylight?" He puts his hands up, waving them frantically in front of him. He should out Nobara. She's probably laughing her ass off at the show while he's now on Megumi's crap list.

Megumi jerks his head back and smiles - fucking smiles at him. So, this is how it ends. Not by fighting Sukuna or by the higher-ups. Death in a freaking park. At least the sun is shining, he thinks.

"Megumi!" Yuji yells as Buyo Jr. swats him like a fly. His back hits the tree. Leaves cling to his hair as he quickly wraps his arms around the branch, lest he falls down to the ground. "You guys suck!" he shouts. Yuji glares at their backs as the two leave the park. Buyo Jr's two tails flick back and forth from his new place on Megumi's shoulders, as a universal 'deal with it symbol'.

"Hurry up and get down from there," Nobara says, moving from behind the bushes. "We can't let them get away." She taps her foot with her hands planted on her hips.

Yuji closes his eyes, letting out an exaggerated breath. Why was this his life now?
