And we're back. Just to remind some people Morgause WILL NOT be in this chapter I haven't decided if she'll be in the next one depends where we finish off in this chapter. This chapter might be very long or very short I'm not sure yet we'll see once I start writing. And I am SO SORRY I haven't posted in so long. There are no excuses. I can't wait till I finish school (end of May we think) and hopefully I should be able to update more often. Without further ado, let's get a shift on!
THIS TIME: A SACRIFICE IS MADE TO HEAL THE VEIL. MORGANA TRIES TO FIND EMRYS BY SEEKING OUT THE DRUIDS.
Chapter 12: Sacrifice of Sir Lancelot
Merlin and Lancelot reached the camp Arthur and the knights had set up for the night with plenty of wood and fire. Lancelot decided to go in first before Merlin to worry everyone. "How's Merlin?" Arthur asked immediately as to seeing Lancelot.
"Bad news." Lancelot stated emotionlessly as he watched everyone's faces drop in sadness. "He's still alive." The knight moved to the side as Merlin walked in as everyone perked up immediately seeing Merlin's goofy smile. Everyone got up to hug Merlin or to pat him on the back in happiness.
"Where's Morgause?" Arthur asked after a while.
"We don't know. Last we saw her she walked off in the opposite direction not telling us where she was going." Lancelot answered.
"Probably off back to Morgana. I knew I shouldn't have trusted her." Arthur said angrily.
"I don't think that's where she's gone. When she left she was angry at us. She would have no idea where Morgana is unless she was lying to us the whole time which I doubt she was. She would've killed us already or at the very least killed Uther." Merlin replied nonchalantly.
"Are you sure? Because if I am to trust her after her disappearing I need you to be completely sure." Arthur said to his servant.
"I'm sure. Even so I wouldn't be surprised if Morgana goes after Morgause after she betrayed her." The warlock answered honestly. The Prince nodded in response and they all sat round the fire.
Morgana was sat in her little hovel where she now lived, playing with her dagger. She waited for Agravaine to show up with the expected news of how Arthur will go to heal the veil which should give her some relief because that would mean Arthur dead and Morgana gets the throne. But on her mind was Emrys. Who was he? Why was he her doom if he was supposedly the greatest sorcerer to ever live? Even Morgause sided with him over her. But why? This Emrys should be standing with her. Not the Pendragons. Not to free magic because that would never happen.
She needed a plan. A plan to find Emrys. Because for Arthur is nothing without Emrys so it is beginning to seem. Maybe she could use some way to find him through someone in Camelot. If she were to kill Uther that would get her far enough. Arthur would be broken and then? Then she can take over Camelot as the rightful Queen. That should not be a problem for someone with her talents. Right?
The knights, Arthur and Merlin had arrived at the Isle of the Blessed. (I've been spelling it wrong haha) Above them a screech could be heard. "What is that?" Asked Leon as he and the other knights drew their swords.
"I really hope I'm wrong." Gwaine replied looking up at the sky as a creature appeared.
"Wyvern!" Arthur shouted to the other men as the beast dived towards them. Arthur took a swing with his sword as everyone ducked but it didn't seem to do anything to hinder the Wyvern. As it kept coming down it managed to take a slice at Percival's arm as the knight fell to the ground clutching his right arm. "You're right!"
Merlin then faced away from the others as begun speaking in his dragon tongue towards the beasts to get them to stop attacking. The two give one last screech before flying away to everyone's but Merlin's surprise.
"See? That's how you deal with them." Gwaine said to them as Merlin agreed silently as he was the one to deal with them.
"We need to keep moving." Arthur told them as he walked through another part of the ruins on the Isle followed by everyone else.
"Sire, you must go on." Leon told his Prince as they saw the Wyvern waiting for them. "We'll fend them off." Arthur, Merlin, Lancelot and Gwaine went on as Leon, Percival and Elyan stayed behind.
The four got to where the Caileach and the tear between the worlds was. There it felt like death. Like they would never be happy again. "It not often that we have visitors." The Caileach spoke chillingly.
"Put an end to this." The Prince demanded. "I demand you heal the tear between the two worlds."
"It was not I who created this horror. Why should it be I that stops it?"
"Because innocent people are dying." Merlin spoke up.
"Indeed." She cackled coldly at the servant. At that point Gwaine ran forward towards the Caileach only to be stopped and knocked to the ground by magic. "Is this the best you can do?" She questioned almost sounding amused.
"I know what you want." Arthur told her.
"Do you? And are you willing to let me have it?"
"I'm prepared to pay whatever price is necessary." The Caileach beckons him forward, however, as he begins walking he is pulled back by Merlin's magic knocking him out but not harming him. At that the Caileach stays at Merlin and begins to walk toward him; never taking her eyes off him. Merlin walks toward her.
"So, Emrys, you choose to challenge me after all. Will you give yourself to the spirits to save your prince?"
"It is my destiny." Merlin answered simply.
"Perhaps. But your time among men is not yet over, Emrys, even if you want it to be." With the following questioning look from Merlin she looked towards the tear to see Lancelot walking towards it. Merlin turns his head to see his friend turn slightly with a nod and a smile as he walks into the veil arms spread wide closing the veil.
"No! No! No!" Merlin shouts in anguish and remorse as the veil closed. "N-No." At this time Arthur and Gwaine begin to wake up.
"What happened? Where's Lancelot?" Arthur questioned his servant who was still glued to the spot staring at where Lancelot had just walked through the veil.
"H-He wasn't meant to- I-" Merlin couldn't form any words as stood in shock.
"Merlin. Where's Lancelot?" This wasn't a question and Merlin knew it. They knew where he was.
"He healed the veil." Merlin answered absently before he turned around to look at the two knights. Both of them looked proud of their friend for such a selfless sacrifice but also so upset.
The ride back to Camelot was long and quiet. No one wanted to speak. The atmosphere was thick with grief as they rode through the gates to Camelot. Arthur made the announcement to everybody that Sir Lancelot had died. Gwen blamed herself for telling him to take care of Arthur, Arthur blamed himself as he was supposed to sacrifice himself not his loyal friend, and Merlin blamed himself. He could have stopped him from doing that. All of Lancelot's friends all vowed to themselves unaware of the others having the same vow that Lancelot would never be forgotten.
