Episode 386: Lucas and Chimchar

We open up to Twinleaf Town, a small town located in the Sinnoh region, and just getting up from his bed is a short boy, who has dark blue eyes and black hair. He puts on a red beret, with the Pokéball logo on the side of it. He put on a white undershirt with a black vest over it that has a gray "V" stripe. He also puts on a red scarf, baggy blue jeans, and red/gray shoes.

This young man is named Lucas, and he lives in Twinleaf Town with his parents and little sister, Wendy. For as long as Lucas can remember, he has dreamed of becoming a Pokémon Trainer, and going out to the world of Pokémon on his own journey. And today is the day when it begins. Lucas was given a postcard from the mail. The postcard is from the Sinnoh region's leading authority on Pokémon research, Professor Rowan. He hears a knock on the door.

"Lucas, you up?" A man's voice asked.

"Yeah, dad, I'm up," Lucas said. The door opens and we see Lucas's father standing with a smile on his face. He is a slightly chubby man with black hair like Lucas. He wore a black shirt, blue jeans, and white socks.

"Had to make sure you didn't sleep-in again because you know how your mother can get when we're late," Lucas's father said.

"I know, dad. I've been looking forward to this day for a long time. Today is the day I get to choose my very first Pokémon and begin my Pokémon journey," Lucas said. Lucas's father chuckled a hearty laugh.

"Yeah, I know, kiddo. Anyway, the other reason I'm here is just to inform you that your mom's preparing some chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast," Lucas's father said.

"Ah, it couldn't be any better," Lucas said, grabbing his postcard. On the postcard are photos of three Pokémon.

One is a small, light green, quadrupedal Pokémon resembling a turtle or tortoise. Its eyes, feet, and lower jaw are yellow. Its body is covered by a brown shell that is composed of earth. The shell has a thick black stripe and a black rim. A small seedling grows on a brown patch on its head. This Pokémon is known as Turtwig.

Another is a bipedal Pokémon resembling a chimpanzee. Its fur is primarily a shade of orange, although its face, outer ears, underbelly, hands, and feet are light yellow. Its ears are large in comparison to its head, and has red insides. It also has red markings around its eyes, as well as two pointed teeth in its upper jaw, a swirl-like symbol on its chest, and five fingers on its hands with three toes on its feet. It has a swirly crest of hair on its head. It has a flame on a small, round, red patch on its rear end. This Pokémon is known as Chimchar.

And the other is a light-blue, penguin-like Pokémon, which is covered in thick down to insulate against the cold. It has a dark blue head with a primarily white face and a short, yellow beak. The dark blue feathers on its head extend down its back and around its neck, which causes it to appear to be wearing a cape. There are two white ovals on its chest and a small, light-blue marking resembles a crown above its beak. It has flipper-like arms and yellow feet with three toes each. This Pokémon is known as Piplup.

Lucas made it downstairs and cooking in the kitchen is a woman with long black hair tied in a ponytail. She wore a yellow dress and a white apron and wore pink slippers. She's humming a happy tune.

Sitting at the table is a little girl wearing a pink kindergarten dress. She has black hair and blue eyes.

Sitting on its perch is a Chatot, eating some Pokémon food that Lucas's mother provided.

"I hope you're prepared, Lucas, because the postcard from Professor Rowan is important. Without it, you won't be able to pick out your Pokémon," Lucas's mother said.

"I know, mom. I have it right here," Lucas said, holding it up.

"Have you decided on which Pokémon you're going to choose?" Lucas's father asked.

"Well, I thought of choosing either Chimchar or Turtwig as my partner. Then again, Piplup is a cool choice, too," Lucas said.

"I always liked Piplup. Piplup is such a cutie," Wendy said.

"I think all three of them are very good choices. They're all so adorable," Lucas's mother said.

"This takes me back to the day I chose my first Pokémon. I remember it like it was yesterday. The first Pokémon I have ever caught was a-" Lucas's father dronned on before Lucas cut him off.

"A Starly, and that Starly was just the size of a Makuhita. You told that story a thousand times," Lucas said.

"Oh, right. Well, I remember you loving that story, son," Lucas's father said.

"Yeah, when I was a little kid. And we really don't have time to hear it all," Lucas said.

"I still love the big Starly story, daddy. I wanna hear it again," Wendy requested. "Please?"

"Oh, alright, sweetie. I'll tell you the story later, okay?" Lucas's father asked.

"Okay," Wendy said, smiling.

"Wendy is easy to entertain when it comes to that story. But, you have a terribly bad habit of rambling when it comes to telling stories," Lucas's mother said, making Lucas's father chuckled sheepishly.

"Oh, right," Lucas's father said.

After breakfast, Lucas grabbed his backpack and the things he needed for his journey.

"Do you have everything, dear?" Lucas's mother asked.

"Yeah, mom," Lucas answered.

"Now, Lucas, you make sure that you are in bed after dark," Lucas's mother said.

"Yes, mom," Lucas said.

"And no late-night snacks, because you need your rest," Lucas's mother said.

"Yes, mom," Lucas said.

"Don't forget to brush your teeth after eating," Lucas's mother said.

"Yes, mom," Lucas said.

"Oh, my baby boy is growing up so fast," Lucas's mom cried.

"Now, now, buttercup, there's no need to cry. We both knew this day was coming," Lucas's father said.

"I know, but I just can't help it," Lucas's mother said.

Running by the house is a boy who has yellow hair and orange eyes. He is wearing a short sleeve cardigan with orange and white stripes. He has on gray pants, brown boots and wears a brown shoulder bag. He stopped when he realized that he ran past Lucas's house and he turned back around and ran up to Lucas.

"Lucas!" The boy yelled. "Lucas, Lucas, Lucas, Lucas, Lucas, Lucas, Lucas, Lucas!"

"Barry, settle down! Remember to breathe between sentences before you get blue to the face," Lucas said. Barry started to calm down, breathing in.

"Sorry, I guess I got a little excited," Barry said between breaths.

"A little?" Lucas scoffed.

"We're always glad to see you, Barry, but where's the fire? You look excited as a hyperactive Spoink," Lucas's father said.

"Yeah, Barry, what's up?" Lucas asked.

"Have you seen what was on TV?" Barry asked.

"Not exactly. I was having breakfast and getting ready to go on my journey. What was so important on TV that made you run out in such a hurry," Lucas said.

"Oh, right! There was a documentary that was going on in Lake Verity and there was the rumor of a super-rare Pokémon sighted there!" Barry said.

"A super-rare Pokémon at Lake Verity? That's awesome," Lucas said.

"I thought you would think so, Lucas! I came all this way just to give you a heads-up!" Barry said.

"What do you mean 'all this way'? You just live down the street," Lucas said.

"Nevermind the little details. Let's get going! To Lake Verity!" Barry said.

"Lake Verity? I thought we were heading for Sandgem Town," Lucas said.

"It's on the way! Now, come on! Let's go!" Barry said, pulling him.

"Ow! Hey! Barry! Don't be so forceful!" Lucas yelled. Barry didn't listen to him as Barry kept pulling him. "Bye, mom, bye, dad, Wendy."

"Bye, Lucas! Catch lots of cute Pokémon!" Wendy said, waving goodbye to her brother.

"Bye, son," Lucas's father said.

"And don't forget to wash your clothes every week," Lucas's mother said. She started to cry again. "Oh, my baby's all grown up."

Meanwhile, Barry kept on pulling Lucas by the arm.

"Ow! Barry! Ow! You know I can walk without you dragging me around like a Growlithe pulling on an old sock!" Lucas said. He managed to pull himself free from Barry's grip. "Ouch. You gotta be more delicate, Barry."

"Oh, come on, Lucas, don't be such a stick in the mud. You wanna see that Pokémon just as badly as I do, right?" Barry asked.

"Yeah, but I don't think getting dragged around like that is helping anybody," Lucas said. He sighed. "But before we get to Lake Verity, I think we should drop in on Dawn's and see if she wants to come along with us. She should have gotten it by now anyway." With that said, the boys went over to what they believe is their friend's house, so Lucas knocked on the door.

Stepping out is a woman with the same skin complexion and color of hair and eyes, but she has her hair styled in a bob and has a red hair clip. She wore a white, long-sleeved shirt, a peach and red apron with pockets and blue capris. She wore a pair of slippers.

With her is a gray feline Pokémon with a slender physique. It has a crescent-shaped head with two white-tipped ears. It also has a white muzzle, a small black nose, pink eyelids, yellow eyes with blue irises, and two rows of thin whiskers. Its neck has a ruff-like fringe, and its legs have similar fringes. Its feet are tipped with white and have pink paw pads on the underside. It has a curled, spring-shaped tail and a white fluff at the tip of it. This Pokémon is known as Glameow.

"Well, well, if it isn't Lucas and Barry. It's very nice to see you this morning," Johanna said, smiling.

"Good morning, ma'am. Is Dawn up?" Lucas asked.

"Unfortunately, she's sleeping in again. It's a good thing that she didn't get that postcard in the mail yet, because it would not be a good way to start a Pokémon journey," Johanna said. Lucas looked up at Dawn's window. He blushes when he thinks of her. Lucas had been in love with Dawn for as long as he knew her back in their days in kindergarten. Of course, Johanna has caught on that Lucas has a crush on Dawn. "Would you boys like to come in for breakfast?" Johanna asked.

"No thanks, ma'am. I already ate," Lucas said.

"I didn't!" Barry pouted. Lucas facepalmed.

"Barry, again?" Lucas asked.

"I was in a hurry," Barry said.

"Well, it's not good for you to skip breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day," Johanna said.

"We'll just pick something up. Thanks for the kind offer and tell Dawn I said hi and I hope the postcard comes," Lucas said.

"I will. You boys take care on the way over," Johanna said.

"We will. Bye," Lucas said.

"Now, I'm hungry," Barry pouted in hunger.

"We'll just pick up some of those breakfast sausage sandwiches on the way! Get you eating like a Munchlax," Lucas said.

"Yeah, yeah," Barry said. A few minutes later, Barry was stuffing his face with those breakfast sausage sandwiches with egg and cheese. Lucas didn't have any since he already ate. Barry drank some Pinap juice to wash it down. "Oh, that's good." He burps in satisfaction.

"Glad you're satisfied. If you can remember to tie your own shoes, I'm surprised you can skip breakfast just like that," Lucas said.

"Like I said, I was in a hurry. I didn't have time to eat," Barry said. "I guess that's what I get for running out especially when my mom is yelling after me." Lucas chuckled. "Anyway, what's the deal with you and Dawn?" Lucas blushed.

"I don't know what you mean," Lucas denied.

"What do you mean you don't know what I mean? I can see it from outer space. I've seen you looking at her like a lovesick Nidoran from day one. You got it bad for Dawn. You had a crush on her since kindergarten," Barry said.

"No comment. Anyway, I wanna get to Lake Verity, if you don't mind," Lucas said.

"Okay, if that's what you want," Barry said. The two boys walked by as they passed by some wild Pokémon living in the area.

There were a small group of brown, rodent-like Pokémon with four short legs. They each have a short, dark brown snout and a small, red nose. Cream-colored markings cover their undersides and surround their faces. Round tufts of fur form their tails. Some of them have five, the others have three. Similar tufts line the bottom of its face and two singular ones form its ears. The Pokémon's black paws have three toes with some webbing between them. Protruding from their upper jaw are large incisors. These Pokémon are known as Bidoof.

Up in the trees is an avian Pokémon with primarily grayish-brown plumage. There is a white marking on its face resembling a mask, and a white spot on its chest. The rest of its head and the lower half of its wings are black. It has a long, orange beak with a black tip, and oval, black eyes with white pupils. A small tuft of feathers curls over the back and its head, and a small, pointed ruff surrounds its neck. It has two black tail feathers with a white feather between them. Its feet are orange with three toes in the front and one in the back. This Pokémon is known as Starly.

And there is a small, bipedal, rabbit-like Pokémon with brown ears that can curl up. It has two types of fur covering its body: a light tan fleece that covers much of its lower body, feet, and the tips of its ears, and a smooth, chocolate-colored pelt on the upper half of its body. It has a small, triangular pink nose, pink paw pads on the undersides of its feet, and small tan spots above its eyes. It has a small brown puff of a tail. This Pokémon is known as Buneary.

Back at Twinleaf Town at Dawn's, we see a girl with navy blue hair, fair skin and dark blue eyes. She wore a mini dress consisting of a black V-neck tank top with a white shirt under it, a very short pink mini skirt, and a red scarf. On her head, she wore a white beanie with a pink Pokéball print on it. She also wore gold hair clips that holds up her hair in front. She wore black mid-knee socks and a pair knee-length pink boots and black mid-knee socks above them. Her boots have a pink and white strap on the edge. The rims of her boots are white, while the soles of her boots are grayish-white.

"Dawn, are you up?" Johanna asked from outside the bedroom.

"I'm up, mom," Dawn said.

"Your friends Lucas and Barry were here just a little while ago," Johanna said.

"Lucas? Really?" Dawn asked, getting all giddy.

"Yes. He wanted me to tell you that he says hello, and he hopes that you get to have a Pokémon soon," Johanna said.

"That's very sweet of him," Dawn said, blushing. Johanna smiled when she saw her daughter blush.

"You don't fool me, Dawn. I can tell you're in love. I think Lucas is a good match for you," Johanna said in her thoughts. She spoke out loud, "Now, how about we get some breakfast. That's if you're hungry, dear."

"Of course, mom," Dawn said, walking out her room.

Over to the two boys, they were both making their way towards Lake Verity. Lucas was following Barry and noticed that his best friend was walking like he was in a marching band.

"So, Barry, what exactly are we even looking for in Lake Verity, anyway?" Lucas asked.

"Well, you know about the stories about the Lake Guardians, don't you?" Barry asked.

"Yeah, everybody knows those stories, what abou-" Lucas paused when he realized that's what his best friend was pulling him down to Lake Verity before heading for Sandgem Town. "Wait, is that what's gotten you so worked up this morning?"

"Yeah, it is. That's the reason why I wanted to go to Lake Verity before we go to Professor Rowan's lab in Sandgem Town. There are whispers going around town that someone saw one of the Lake Guardians," Barry said. Lucas just scoffed.

"Really?" Lucas skeptically asked, raising a brow.

"Hey! I'm gonna give you a 1 million fine for calling me a liar!" Barry exclaimed.

"Barry, I'm not calling you a liar, but I am curious how you heard about it," Lucas said.

"Well, I heard it from this one guy who heard it from this lady who heard it from another lady who heard it from another guy who heard it from a passerby at the lake. He said he saw it," Barry said.

"If it was a Lake Guardian, then it would very likely be Mesprit. Everybody knows that one is the Lake Guardian of Lake Verity," Lucas pointed out.

"Yeah, and how would you know that, Mr. Smarty-pants?" Barry asked.

"I just told you that everybody knows that," Lucas said.

"Well, I didn't!" Barry argued. Lucas sighed.

"Anyway, I'm not saying that you're lying about hearing the Lake Guardian sighting, what I am saying is that the passerby might be making it up," Lucas said.

"And why would someone lie about that?" Barry asked.

"Anything to see their names in the newspaper and their faces on TV. My dad's been telling me that there are guys who would do anything to have themselves be heard," Lucas said.

"Whatever," Barry said.

"Look, I just don't want to see you get your hopes up too high, like that one time that happened at summer camp two years ago," Lucas said.

"That was only because someone gave me bad info! I wanted to give a 100 million munny fine to the kid who told that to me!" Barry said.

"Count yourself lucky you didn't get kicked out over that incident," Lucas said.

The two boys kept walking and they arrived at the lakefront. And they've spotted two people staring out in the Lake. One of them was Gary Oak.

He has fair skin, blue eyes, and spiky white hair with sideburns and a mustache. He also wore a white lab coat.

"Who are they?" Barry asked.

"I don't know, but I think they're here for the same reason as us," Lucas said.

"So much for the rumors of the Lake Guardian sighting," Gary said.

"Yes, but you have to remember that the world is full of mysteries, so there are questions that have yet to be answered. Anything is possible," Professor Rowan said.

"You're right, professor. Should we head back to the lab and wait for the new Trainers?" Gary asked.

"Yes. We shouldn't keep the new Trainers waiting a tad longer," Professor Rowan said.

With that said, Gary and Professor Rowan have taken their leave of the lakefront, passing Lucas and Barry.

"Wonder what that was all about?" Barry asked.

"Like that matters. That was Professor Rowan we just saw. He's the one who's giving each of us a new Pokémon today, remember?" Lucas asked.

"Since we came all this way, we might as well stick around and see if we can find that Lake Guardian while we're here," Barry said.

"Really, Barry? You wanna keep looking for it even after we just saw the professor?" Lucas asked.

"Come on, you know you wanna see it, too, don't you?" Barry reminded his best friend.

"Yeah, but I also want to get my first Pokémon before I get my first gray hair," Lucas said.

"Relax, Lucas. We'll just do what we came here to do and then we'll go to Sandgem Town like you wanted," Barry said.

"Yeah, yeah," Lucas said. He noticed a briefcase in the grass. "Hey, what's that?"

"What's what?" Barry asked as Lucas went for the briefcase and picked it up.

"Those two guys left this briefcase behind," Lucas said.

"Yeah, you're right. Maybe we should have a peek inside," Barry said.

"Better idea, Barry. We should just return it to Professor Rowan," Lucas said, knowing it was an excuse to get to Sandgem Town.

"But what about the Lake Guardian?" Barry pouted.

"Barry, don't whine. We gotta do the right thing. And besides, it's not just gonna show up just because you want it to," Lucas said.

"That's exactly what I was thinking, too," Gary's voice said as they turned to see Professor Oak's grandson walking up to them. "I take it that you two are here because of the rumors, too, aren't you?" Gary asked.

"You could say that. It was actually his idea to come here before we head for Sandgem Town," Lucas said.

"Oh, so you're the new Trainers we were expecting. You do have the postcards the professor mailed you, don't you?" Gary asked. Lucas and Barry took theirs out. "Good. And since we haven't seen anything, we should get going. Come on."

Lucas and Barry followed Gary out of the lakefront, unaware of the presence of the Lake Guardian. The Lake Guardian is invisible as it hovers around in the lake.

Gary led the two boys over to Professor Rowan who was waiting for his assistant to return to him with the briefcase.

"Good of you for returning my briefcase to me, Gary. And who are these two?" Professor Rowan asked.

"These two are the ones who found the briefcase before I did. And they're the new Trainers we were expecting today," Gary said.

"I see. May I ask what your names are?" Professor Rowan asked.

"My name's Barry," Barry answered.

"And I'm Lucas," Lucas also answered. "We were on our way to your lab when we made a slight detour to Lake Verity, and that's when we saw you two because of the Lake Guardian being sighted at the lake, and that's when we noticed your briefcase."

"I see. You both have my thanks. Now that the introductions have concluded, we can get down to business. Come with me," Professor Rowan said. After reaching Sandgem Town, they entered inside of the lab and Professor Rowan presented three Pokéballs and he let out a Turtwig, a Chimchar, and a Piplup. "As you two can see, these are the beginner Pokémon for Trainers of the Sinnoh region, so which one of these three would you like? Would you like the Grass-type, Turtwig, the Fire-type, Chimchar, or the Water-type, Piplup?"

"Hey, Lucas, how about you choose yours first? Apart from these three, I don't know which one I like best," Barry said.

"Okay," Lucas said. He looked at the three Pokémon very thoroughly and he looked at Chimchar and he smiled. He picked it up in his arms. "I think I'll be going with Chimchar."

"Chimchar," Chimchar said.

"Really? A Chimchar?" Barry asked.

"Yeah. I always thought of having a Chimchar as my first Pokémon, so I thought why not, right?" Lucas said.

"Well, if you're going with Chimchar, then the Pokémon I pick for myself is Piplup. A Water-type to counter your Fire-type," Barry said.

"Now that you have made your choices, here are Piplup and Chimchar's Pokéballs. You will need them. Also, Gary will need to download the Pokédex app on each of your Rotom Phones," Professor Rowan said.

"Alright," Lucas said as he and Barry handed Gary their Rotom Phones. He downloaded the Pokédex app on each one of their phones.

"There. Download successful," Gary said.

"And you will be needing these, too. Five Pokéballs and a Pokémon Box for each one of you," Professor Rowan said, handing them to Lucas and Barry.

"A Pokémon Box? What's that?" Barry asked.

"Before I answer your question regarding the Pokémon Box, I shall teach you about the Pokéball. The Pokéballs are tools that are used to capture wild Pokémon. You simply have to battle the Pokémon to weaken it in battle. Once the wild Pokémon is too weak to keep battling, you throw the Pokéball at the Pokémon and it will flow inside. You will only carry six at a time. As for the Pokémon Boxes, they will inform you that you have exceeded the limit of the Pokémon you can carry. With the Pokémon Box, you can keep the Pokémon in exchange for one of your other Pokémon if you wish, or you can send the newly captured Pokémon over to the lab. Also, you can have the Pokémonsent over to you no matter where you are when you wish," Professor Rowan explained. "Now, do you have any questions?"

"I think we're good, professor," Lucas said. He and Barry called Chimchar and Piplup back inside their Pokéballs.

"Yeah, I wanna see how tough my new Piplup is. Wanna battle me, Lucas?" Barry asked.

"A battle? Now?" Lucas asked.

"You wanna test out your Chimchar's strength, don't you? So why not a Pokémon battle?" Barry asked.

"A Pokémon battle is a good way to build up a Pokémon's potential, so give it a shot, Lucas," Gary said.

"Well, okay. Just don't go easy on me all because we're best friends," Lucas said.

"I wasn't even going to anyway. Let's do this thing!" Barry said.

With that said, both Lucas and Barry stepped out and they each held their Pokéballs and prepared to battle.

"Ready, Barry?" Lucas asked.

"I was born ready! Piplup! Go!" Barry shouted. His Pokéball opened and his Piplup came out, ready to battle.

"Okay, Chimchar! Go!" Lucas called out, throwing his Pokéball. Chimchar came out, ready to battle. "Chimchar! Scratch!" Chimchar ran towards Piplup to scratch its opponent.

"Piplup! Dodge and use Pound!" Barry ordered. Piplup dodged Chimchar's scratch and gave Chimchar a strong smack with its flipper. "Great job, Piplup! Pound again!"

"Chimchar! Dodge and use Scratch!" Lucas ordered. Chimchar dodged Piplup's flipper and gave the penguin-like Pokémon a scratch across the face. Barry was gritting his teeth.

"Ooh, that makes me mad! Piplup! Pound again!" Barry ordered. Piplup came at Chimchar with another Pound ready to hit Chimchar.

"Dodge and scratch!" Lucas ordered. Chimchar scratches Piplup again and this time, it deals some heavy damage.

"No more Mr. Nice-Guy! Use Bubble!" Barry ordered. Piplup just looked at Barry, puzzled. "What are you looking at me for?! I said Bubble!"

"Barry, I don't think your Piplup knows that move," Lucas said.

"Seriously?! A Water-type that doesn't know a Water-type move? Alright then, Pound!" Barry ordered. Piplup came at Chimchar once again with a Pound ready to hit it.

"Use Scratch!" Lucas ordered. Chimchar came at Piplup as well. Both lands a hit on one another. Piplup fell forward, beaten.

"No way! I lost?!" Barry exclaimed.

"I don't believe it. I won my very first Pokémon battle. I was at a type disadvantage and I still won," Lucas said. He bends his knee to Chimchar and smiled. "You were awesome out there, Chimchar." The monkey-like Pokémon just smiled.

"Aw, man. I lost my very first Pokémon battle. If only my Piplup knew how to use Bubble, I would have won," Barry said, calling Piplup back inside. Lucas calls his Chimchar back inside as Barry walks up to him. "That'll be a 150 million munny fine for beating me!"

"Come in, Barry, don't fine me. You gave it your best shot," Lucas said.

"Pokémon can become stronger when trained properly. True your Piplup had the advantage in typings, but in time, your Piplup will learn to use Water-type moves," Professor Rowan said.

"If you say so. I'm going to train my Piplup to be the best Pokémon it can be, so you better watch out, because the next time we battle, I'm going to win," Barry said, taking off.

"Your friend sure is determined," Gary said.

"You don't even know the half of it. Anyway, I'll be going now. Thanks again, and bye," Lucas said.

"Of course. And remember, if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to help you out," Professor Rowan said.

"I won't forget. I'm off," Lucas said as he went off to find a Pokémon to catch.

Later, arriving at Lake Verity is a man who is dressed in a strange gray uniform. He has spiked light blue hair and a very defined facial feature. The uniform he wears bears a logo that is the letter G pinned to his vest on his left upper breast. The uniform itself consists of a long sleeve black shirt with a gray vest over it, long black pants designed in a similar fashion to the shirt sleeves, and gray shoes. He stood before the lake and looked into it.

"...The flowing time... The expanding space... I will make it all mine one day... Cyrus is my name. Remember it, Lake Guardians... Until then, sleep while you can, legendary Pokémon of the lake bed..." The man said.

Over to Lucas, he made a stop and he made contact over to his home. He waited for a few seconds before his father answered.

"Hello," Lucas's father said, answering the home phone.

"Hi, dad," Lucas greeted.

"Hey, Lucas! It hasn't even been a day, and we're already hearing from you," Lucas's father said, smiling.

"Is that my Lucas?" Lucas's mother asked in the background.

"Big brother!" Wendy happily squealed.

"Hi, Wendy, hi, mom," Lucas greeted.

"Did you make it to Sandgem Town okay? You didn't get lost, did you?" Lucas's mother asked.

"No, Barry and I made it over just okay. The reason I'm calling is I picked my first Pokémon. I have it with me right now," Lucas said, taking out his Pokéball and opened it. Chimchar came out from inside. "This is Chimchar."

"Chimchar," Chimchar said.

"Chimchar is a cute Pokémon, big brother," Wendy cooed.

"I agree with your sister. Such a cute Pokémon," Lucas's mother said.

"Such a good choice, son," Lucas's father said.

"Thanks, I think so, too. Barry chose a Piplup and I actually beat him on my very first try," Lucas said.

"That's my boy. Now that you have a Pokémon of your own, your journey has begun," Lucas's father said.

"Yeah, I'll catch some more Pokémon to make myself a team," Lucas said.

"Big brother, do you think you can catch a cute Pokémon for me to have? Please?" Wendy asked.

"Sure thing, Wendy. I'll keep my eyes open for one," Lucas said as a Starly flew over him. "Gotta go. I got a Pokémon to catch!"

"Alright, son. Best of luck," Lucas's father said.

"We love you," Lucas's mother said.

"Love you too. Bye," Lucas said, breaking contact. "Okay, Chimchar! Go get it!" Chimchar nodded and climbed up the trees and went after Starly. The monkey-like Pokémon grabbed Starly by the leg and it angrily tries to shake Chimchar off. They both fell to the ground as Starly glared at Chimchar. Remembering his Rotom Phone now has a Pokédex app on it, he used it. "Let's test it out.

Starly, the Starling Pokémon

Type: Normal/Flying

They live in the fields and mountains, gathering in large flocks. Their cries are quite noisy. Though small, their wings are strong, a strike from them leaves pain that persists for a week.

"Cool! A good catch when starting out," Lucas said. Starly charges at Chimchar. "Starly's using Tackle, dodge and use Scratch!" Chimchar avoids Starly's Tackle and scratches at the Starling Pokémon on the mark. Starly flew at Chimchar with another Tackle. "Scratch again!" Chimchar gave Starly another Scratch, weakening it further. He took out a Pokéball and threw it at Starly, making it flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "I caught my very first Pokémon. And it's a Starly. Let's head for the Pokémon Center and give you a proper healing."

"Chimchar," Chimchar said, nodding. Chimchar climbs on Lucas's shoulder and head for the Pokémon Center.

Standing in the distance is a boy with mid-length purple hair that has one big strand hanging over the middle of his face, small dark eyes. He wears a purple jacket with navy blue sleeves, a blue undershirt, dark purple pants and purple and navy sneakers with white soles. With him is an Elekid.

"Hmph. Well, if it was that easy, who needs that thing?" The boy asked.

Back in Twinleaf Town, the mailman came by as Johanna was watering her plants.

"Hey, Johanna, your plants are looking healthier every time I see them," the mailman said.

"Thank you. But I have a feeling you didn't come to flatter my green thumb," Johanna said.

"No, just this," the mailman said, handing Johanna a postcard. She knew it was Dawn's turn to shine.

"Thank you. My daughter will be thrilled when she gets this," Johanna said.

"Yeah, I know. She's going to make a great Coordinator like you," the mailman said, taking his leave. "Have a nice day." She stepped inside back in her house as Dawn came down stairs.

"Anything in the mail today?" Dawn asked.

"Just this," Johanna said, handing her daughter the postcard she's been waiting for. Dawn's face lit up like it was Christmas.

"Alright!" Dawn shouted at the top of her lungs.

Over to Count Ernesh's mansion, he is sitting in his study, reading a book when a knock on the door is heard.

"Enter," Count Ernesh said. His butler entered the room.

"Apologies for the interruption, my Lord Count, but Lord Insidious has requested to speak with you at once. He says it is urgent," the butler said.

"Then, I will not keep him waiting," Count Ernesh said, closing the book and takes his leave of the study.

Back in the Kanto region, Sora, Kairi, Roxas, Xion, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Chase, Elaine, Wes, Rui, Michael, Pikachu, Angel, Xipak, Celeste, Marill, Volt, and Maple have arrived to Porta Vista and boarded a ship bound for the Sinnoh region. Ventus, Terra, Aqua, their Pikachu partners, Danny, Cattleya, Hank, Lilac, Lionel, L'eau, Ryuko, and Yuki were standing at the dock, seeing them take off.

"Well, this is where another new adventure begins," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

"We all wish you luck," Danny said.

"And take care of each other while you're out there," Cattleya said.

"We will," Roxas said.

"You don't need to worry about us," Chase said.

"They're going to worry anyway," Michael said.

"He's right, but we know your mission is important," Cattleya said.

"To find others who are candidates for wielding a Keyblade like you kids," Danny said.

"You think your other friends will be going to Sinnoh, too?" Cattleya asked.

"Yeah. Master Rei, Ben, Riku, Naminé, Tai, Davis, Takato, Takuya, Yugi, and all the others are going to meet us over to the Sinnoh region. They'll give us a ring," Sora said.

"Just be careful out there," Aqua sasaid.

"And catch some more Pokémon while you're there," Ventus said.

"That's what we'll do," Sora said.

"Wait, Sora, do you have the egg Gary gave you?" Aqua asked.

"Right here," Sora said, holding the egg.

"Good," Aqua said.

The ship begins to sail.

"It looks like we're off," Wes said.

"Bon Voyage!" Lyra said.

"Marill!" Marill said.

The Keyblade wielders waved goodbye. Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Ventus's parents, the babies, and the four Pikachu watched on until the ship was out of sight.

Now that the Kanto Grand Festival and the Pokémon Stadium Cup is behind them, another new adventure is waiting for them in the Sinnoh region. What could be awaiting for them once they arrived? Stick around if you wanna find out.
