Here's chapter three! Hope you love it!
Yep. No credits whatsoever go to me. Only to Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. But only own two characters. This is another mix of both.
Eddie POV:
"Are we going over to their house?" Beth asked me. "Yeah, I guess we can. Let's go." I said, as I got up and put on my black Converse high tops. "Hey Caroline. You coming with us?"
Caroline came running down the hall and put on her tan ballet flats."You bet. Let's see what these guys look like." She said, grabbing her denim jacket. Then we walked to their house, which is just next door.
I knocked on the front door. I heard the shuffle of feet coming to the door. Then the door opened. A tall blonde headed boy appeared in front of us.
I stared at him, then realized that he was Jake Hatford. He was taller, cuter, and he smelled like Ralph Lauren Polo.
"Who are you?" He asked. My heart fell to the ground. "You mean you don't recognize us?" I asked.
He looked at all three of us, as though he was investigating us. "Wait a minute. Are you three the Malloy girls?" He asked, grinning at us. That was when I knew he'd been pulling my leg the whole time. To see if we'd actually believe that he'd forgotten us.
So I just decided to play along. "Yep. I'm surprised you forgot. Especially when you tried to kill us." I said, throwing in a sweet little grin.
Wally and Josh came around the corner. They stopped in their tracks when they saw us. "Hey, Josh. Hey. Wally. What have you guys been up to?" I asked.
"Nothing much." Josh said, looking at Beth. "How are you doing, Beth?" "Good, thanks for asking."
Wally stared at the ground and never said a word. But Caroline did. "So, Wally, how are you?" He looked up at her and blushed. "I'm good. How are you?" "Pretty good." Caroline said, smiling at him.
"So, Eddie, which high school are you and Beth coming to?" Jake asked. "Um I think we're going to Buckman High School." I said.
"That's the same school Josh and I go to. Granted it's the only high school around." Jake said, laughing. I giggled at his joke. Then I caught myself. "So, how's high school for you?" I asked him.
"It hasn't been too bad." He said. "I mean 11th grade can be hard at times, but it's alright."
"Amen to that." Josh said. "I'm in the experienced art class. Art class 101."
Beth gave him a smile. "That's not surprising, but what's it like?" She asked. "Well, I've got a lot of friends and it's really fun to paint." He said.
I turned to Jake. "What teams do you play on?" "I play on the Buckman Bears high school football team." He responded. "I think I might try out for the team." I said.
But then Jake burst out laughing. "You're kidding me, right?" He asked, grinning. "Girls can't play football. You're too weak."
I saw red and got up in his face. "Who do you think you are?" I screamed. "I thought I proved to you that I was strong when I joined the baseball team."
"Eddie, you know girls just aren't capable of playing football. It's common sense. I'm a man, you're a... girl." He said.
I huffed. "I don't really care what you think. I'm going to join the team and prove that I'm stronger than you think. Once again, but I will do it." I said, walking back to our house. My sisters followed me.
"I really thought Jake learned his lesson last time. I joined the guys baseball team. I'm sure I'll be good enough to join the football team." I said.
"Well, he sure should've. But Edie, come on. He's a boy. He's going to say stuff he doesn't mean." Beth said.
"Whatever he is, he's going to regret making me angry." Eddie smacked a piece of bread on a plate.
"You know what I think? I think you like Jake. So you're mad he said that about you." Caroline said, grinning at her oldest sister.
"You're so wrong." I said, going to my room.
"She's in denial." Caroline said.
"You got that right." Beth agreed.
Jake POV:
"Who does she think she is?" I asked, flinging my arms. "If she joins the football team, she'll throw the whole football team off balance. It'll be a disaster."
"Now come on Jake. She might be better than you think." Wally said. "Oh please. Has there ever been a girl football player?" I asked.
"Yeah, there has. Bella Dawson, remember?" Josh said. "You're dumb, you know that?" I said, rolling my eyes at him.
"What? Why?" Josh asked, confused.
"Because Bella Dawson is a tv character!" I screamed.
"Oh. I forgot. My bad." Josh said grinning sheepishly.
Wally came in the kitchen, smiling at his oldest brother. "You know what Jake? I'm sure you like Eddie. You're just upset that she might try to one up you at tryouts." He said.
"You're delusional! I don't like Eddie Malloy and I never will." I lied. I walked to my bedroom and slammed my door.
"He's just lying to himself. He knows he likes her." Josh said.
"I know. He just doesn't want to admit to it." Wally said, shaking his head, smiling.
