Team Flash gave him a costume.

It was blue and white with Caitie's symbol on the chest. They had offered him a cape like Crystal's but he didn't think he could carry that off. Unlike Caitie or Crystal's outfit, it included a mask.

"My ice armor alters my facial features. Why would I need a mask?"

Wally put an arm around his shoulder. "One, the mask will disguise your features if you ever have to ice down or get him with a power damper whammy. Believe me, it happens more often than you think. Two: masks are cool!"

Wally was wearing his own costume. Cam had to admit that he looked pretty heroic in it … and the mask and goggles did have a certain style to it.

(He also looked damn good but Cam wasn't going to tell him that.)

"This feels weird," Cam looked at his gloved hands.

"You'll get used to it," Wally assured him. "Before long, you'll feel weird when you're wearing civvies."

"There's a comforting thought."

"Okay. Time to meet the gang. You'll love 'em. And wait till you meet M'Gann." Wally elbowed him.

"Who's that?" Cam asked.

"You'll see. Let's go to the teleporter. It'll take us to Mount Justice."

"Teleporter?"

"You know. Like the Justice League uses."

"Right. Of course." Wish I wasn't so stupid sometimes ….

"It'll be fun!"

"Having your atoms disassembled and put back together again in another spot. Oh joy. Don't you remember that old movie we watched- 'The Fly'?"

"Don't worry. The League transporters work perfectly- that almost never happens."

"Almost?"

"You'll have to ask Barry about it sometime. There was this alien that got into the transporter while Flash and Hawkman did and they all swapped body parts … was really something!"

"You're not making me anymore eager to get into that thing, Wally."

"Call me Kid Flash when I'm in this outfit. Helps to avoid any chance of slipping and blowing the whole secret identity thing. And don't worry. They fixed 'em so that could never ever happen again." Wally grinned at him. "Trust me, Cam."

"Oh all right." The last thing I need to do is have Wally think I'm a coward.

Teleportation was a weird experience that Cam wasn't sure he liked or not, but at least it didn't hurt.

They were in a cave.

"Superman hollowed out Mount Justice and the League outfitted for their original headquarters. They moved out later to the satellite you've heard Barry talk about. Come on. The gang's waiting for us."

Wally led him into an area that had been converted into living quarters. There were two girls and three boys waiting for them.

Cam blinked in shock: one of them wore a Superman shield on his chest.

"Superboy," Wally whispered. "I'll explain later." He raised his voice. "Guys, this is Kid Frost. Kid Frost, this is the Team. Robin, Superboy, Aqualad, Miss Martian, and Cheshire."

Aqualad moved forward and offered his hand. "I am Kaldur'ahm. My surface friends call me Kaldur. I am pleased to meet you, Kid Frost. I have seen footage of your first public appearance. You did well."

"I'm Cameron Mahkent. You can call me Cam." He shook Kaldur's hand. "Thanks, but I know that I messed up at the end."

"Hey, we were all new once." The kid- he was the youngest by several years- was the world famous Robin. "I'm Robin. Call me Robin."

He didn't offer to shake hands but he gave a friendly wave.

"I'm M'Gann!" the green girl announced.

Cam smiled. "I kind of figured that. It's very nice to meet you, M'Gann."

"Superboy," the moody teen in the Superman T-Shirt said. He didn't wave and he didn't offer to shake hands. He folded his arms and simply looked at Cam.

The other girl looked at him. "Frost."

She was older even than Kaldur though not by much. She had an elaborate mask that she currently wasn't wearing.

Cam blinked. He knew her. He had met her years ago … back when he still lived with his father. "Jade?"

"You know Cheshire?" Robin asked in surprise.

"We met a long time ago." Jade blinked her eyes. "Back before my father passed."

Cam had been quite young then. He could remember Sportsmaster A tall blond man that even Icicle respected. Tigress- his wife. Jade had been a young teenager then. And then there had been Artemis ….

He had liked Artemis.

"Artemis... your sister? Is she okay."

Jade refused to meet his eyes. "She's … not dead."

M'Gann reached over and placed a sympathetic hand on her shoulder.

There was a rush of air.

"Greetings, Kid Frost. I am Red Torpedo. I function as the Team's mentor."

Caitie had talked to him about Red Tornado. She was not an engineer, but she had been fascinated by the concept of an autonomous artificial intelligence. It was one of those science things that she had tried to share with him.

Cam winced mentally. Didn't take long for her to realize that I'm not the genius the rest of the family is. No wonder Dad always called me stupid …

M'Gann turned worried eyes on him but said nothing.

"So … I know that you have ice powers but what exactly can you do?" Robin asked him to break the awkward silence.

Cam scuffed his feet awkwardly. "Well, I use moisture from the air to create ice."

"Don't be so modest, Cam!" Wally said. "I mean, Kid Frost. See what I mean about the whole secret identity thing?" He turned back to Robin. "He can create ice constructs. Sculptures. He does it for all of Team Flash's parties. Show 'em, Kid Frost!"

Cam nodded and held out his hands. In an instant, a life sized ice statue appeared.

It was Miss Martian.

"Oh, thank you!" M'Gann blushed. "It's amazing!"

Kaldur examined the statue and turned to Cam with respect in his eyes. "You are quite the artist, my friend."

"It's just my powers," Cam confessed.

"Having the power to create ice out of nothing is an amazing power, my friend, but you have the eye of a true sculptor. Do not underestimate your skill just because you use your power to express your gift."

Cam shrugged awkwardly. He knew that Kaldur was trying to be nice, but he hated when people tried to make him believe he was something he wasn't.

M'Gann frowned.

"So do we just stand around here until they decide to send us on some kind of mission?" Cam asked them in an attempt to get their eyes off him.

"Training. We can do some training!" Robin snapped his fingers. "If you think that's a good idea, Kaldur."

Aqualad smiled. "It is a sound suggestion, Robin. Come, Cameron. We will go outside and do some training."

"Sounds like a plan," Wally agreed.

"I change my mind," Wally panted later as he collapsed onto a couch. "That was a horrible idea."

Cam nodded weakly. He was more tired than he wanted to admit. He was probably in worse shape than the rest of them. He had been struggling behind the others, trying desperately to keep up and follow Aqualad's orders. He was dead on his feet.

"Cam," Aqualad said as he sat down beside him. "You did well."

"Are you kidding? I was the worst one out there!"

"You are untrained," Aqualad reminded him. "You have not prepared for this life. You have good reflexes, you listen to what I say-" he paused to glance at Superboy who had the grace to look away "- and you do not make the same mistake twice. You will do well." Aqualad paused. "If you let yourself."

Cam stared at him in confusion. "Um, what?"

"Never mind. It will come to you in time." Aqualad rose up. "I am going to take a shower."

"Sounds good," Robin admitted.

"Me too," Wally agreed. "Cam?"

"In a few minutes. I'm still too tired to move."

"Jade?" M'Gann asked.

"I'll rest a moment longer too."

The others stared at her in surprise but said nothing.

They walked off.

Cam stared at Jade awkwardly. He knew who she was. She knew who he was. Wally knew, but the others didn't … unless Wally had told them.

"I thought you were dead," Jade said finally.

Cam shrugged. "Dad wanted that, but my sisters saved me."

Jade said nothing.

"I'm sorry about your dad," Cam finally said.

"Don't be. He was a monster." Jade looked away. "But his death made my mother into a worse one."

Cam didn't know what to say to that so he said nothing.

"There's something I wanted to tell you …" Jade paused. "You need to know because you have a good heart." She stated it as though it were simply a fact. "And you might not react in time to protect yourself. Artemis … isn't who she was when you knew her."

"Well, yeah. She's a lot older now..."

"She's a monster, Cameron. She would kill you without a second thought … and she's not above using your kindness against you."

Cam blinked. "She was such a good kid … are you sure?"

"I'm sure." Jade looked away. "I wanted you to be prepared. The others know how to take care of themselves and they don't have an emotional connection to Artemis. But you needed to be warned."

"Do they know about her?" Cam asked her gently.

"They've fought her. They don't know she's my sister. Not yet."

Cam nodded. "Thanks for telling me."

"You needed to know." Jade stood up. "Now I think I'll take that shower."

Cam nodded. He thought of Artemis … they had both been kids when he knew her. She had been a friend in a time of his life when he didn't have any. It was hard to think of that little girl turning into a cold blooded killer.

But his dad had wanted to turn Cam into a killer when he was just a kid too.

But Cam had gotten help.

Artemis hadn't.

"I'm sorry," Cam said to the little girl he had once known. "I'm sorry no one was there to save you too."

Author's Note: The secret's out. This takes place in the same universe as "Sisters." Wally's tale of Flash and Hawkman getting their bodies mixed up with an alien's actually happened in an issue of the Justice League comic … the one that introduced the Justice League satellite actually.
