"Cam … Cameron. Wake up."

"Wally?" He opened his eyes. "I mean Kid Flash-"

"Don't worry. It's cool. She knows who I am." Wally gestured to the slightly older teenage girl who was watching the two of them. She had a white cat's mask and wore green.

"Cheshire," she introduced herself.

"Pleased to meet you," Cam said automatically and then glanced down at himself. "What am I doing wearing this outfit?" It looks like a cross between Caitie's and Crystal's.

"Search me. I don't even know where we are. The two of us came to just a few minutes before you did."

Cheshire held up a newspaper written in a language that Cam didn't recognize. "Arabic. We seem to be in Biayla."

"Where's that?" Wally asked. "It sounds familiar but I can't place it."

"It's a Middle East country," Cam explained.

"Ruled by Queen Bee," Cheshire said nodding her head. She tapped the newspaper. "According to this, it's September."

"September?" Cam froze. "But that's not right. It's March! Maybe it's last year's paper?"

"It's not." Cheshire shook her head. "Somehow we've lost six months." She sighed. "I wish I knew where Roy was ..."

"Speedy," Wally whispered to Cam. "I told you about him."

Cam nodded. "So maybe you should call the Flash and see if he knows what's going on?"

"That wouldn't be a good idea," Cheshire told them. "We don't know why we're here. Trying to call for help could give our location away to undesirables. The best thing to do now is reconnoiter and see what we can find out. We need more knowledge before we decide on a course of action."

"That should be my job!" Wally said proudly. "Reconnoiter is my middle name. Kid Reconnoiter Flash they call me ..."

"Do you hear that?" Cam asked suddenly.

"Out!" Cheshire grabbed his hand and yanked him towards the door.

They barely got out in time. "Who's firing missiles at us?!"

"Probably whoever stripped our memories," Wally said, lightly running ahead of them.

"They're shooting at us!" Cam tried to ice up, but he found he couldn't run and concentrate at the same time.

There was a jeep … and tanks.

"I can't carry both of you!" Wally cried. "Cheshire, hide and I'll come back for you!"

"No!" Cam spun about and iced the jeep in its tracks. "Go! I'll catch up!"

"You idiot!" Cheshire ran forward and grabbed him, wrapped a slender rope around his hands. "Wally!"

She held her hand out to him.

Wally dashed forward. "Form an ice trail at your feet, Cam! That'll help me pull the two of you!"

Ice, Cam thought to himself.

Wally grabbed their hands and they were off.

Cameron blinked. "Wow. That was a lot."

Aided by Miss Martian, six months of memories had virtually slammed their way back into his head. He glanced over at Cheshire … Jade.

She removed her mask and smiled at him … and smacked him on the head. "Don't you ever put my life ahead of yours again, Cameron Mahkent!"

Miss Martian looked at the two of them, but said nothing. "I've got to find Superboy!"

"We will," Robin declared. "In the meantime we have to find Kaldur ..."

It didn't take long thanks to Robin's tech.

"Twenty fours in a desert is not good for a guy with gills," Wally whispered in fear.

Cam nodded.

Then came the discussion on getting Kaldur help … which led to Miss Martian bailing on them to go rescue Superboy.

She loves him, Cam thought. She's going to put him ahead of all of us … even Kaldur. That leaves it up to me. "I can help Kaldur."

"What do you mean? Ice would take too long to melt ..."

"Well, there's ice and there's snow ..."

"You sure you're up to this?" Wally asked him worriedly. "The desert isn't exactly your best location either."

\

"I'm fine," Cameron lied. He held his hands over Kaldur's parched face and smiled. "Don't worry, Kaldur. I've got you covered.

"Let it snow ..."

In the end, both Cam and Kaldur wound up needing hydration.

Wally spent the whole ride at Cam's side. He rebuffed any attempt that M'Gann made at conversation. "You idiot," he said to Cam once the latter had awakened. "You don't have to go that hard, Cam. You were already under a strain before you cooled Kaldur down. It didn't take that long for us to get to the bio-ship You could have waited …."

"But we didn't know that something wouldn't prevent us from getting there in time," Cam retorted. "And I would have been weaker later … perhaps too weak to help Kaldur if he had needed me then. I don't regret what I did."

"Of course you don't," Jade murmured as she came over to him with a bottle of water. "Drink this. It won't hurt you and you still need fluids."

Cam took it. The water was cold and tasted better than he could have imagined. "Thanks."

"Wally, why don't you go and have a snack? You haven't eaten a thing since we got to the bio-ship and we both know you're probably starving as we speak."

"I want to stay with Cam," Wally mumbled, but his stomach growled loudly enough that they could all hear it.

"I think your tummy has other ideas, Wally," Cam told him. "Go on. I'll be fine. It's not like I'm going anywhere."

Wally walked away.

"Hopefully he has a talk with M'Gann," Jade said when he had left. "He is very upset with her for leaving Kaldur. He feels that you would not have put yourself at risk if she had taken Kaldur to the bio-ship before rescuing Superboy."

"Superboy did need help," Cam pointed out. "We didn't know how bad it was until they got back."

"True," Jade admitted. "And Kaldur might have been fine if you hadn't helped him, but none of us knew what the future would be."

"She loves Superboy," Cam whispered. "Wally has to learn to accept that."

"He does," Jade admitted. She laid her hand on top of Cam's. "And Wally does care about you, Cam. Even if it's not exactly the way you might want ..."

Cam blushed. "Is it that obvious?"

Jade smiled. "Black Canary has been my mentor for years and I was trained to be an assassin before that. I'm supposed to be observant."

"It's okay," Cam told her. "I mean … Wally is straight. I've always known that. And we wouldn't work out if even he were gay or even bi like me."

"There is someone out there for you, Cam. I'm sure of it."

"You really think so?"

Jade smiled. "Absolutely. I never would have thought that I would wind up dating Roy, but here we are. If that jerk can find someone then I'm sure you'll do just fine."

"Thanks. I think."

Jade smiled. "I know it might not seem like it, but today was a good day. We all lived and we saved an innocent being from torture. That's a good day's work."

"It is, isn't it?" Cam smiled.

Author's Note: I see Jade as having big sister-like feelings for Cameron at this point. She couldn't save Artemis from her mother, but Cam has a similar origin and she almost feels like he's a second chance at being a good sibling. See my story "Sisters" for why she feels this way.
