Chapter 1 Drift Away

"Alright dear, well I hope you have a good night!"

"You too mom, you too…"

*Boop Boop Boop*

'Sigh…' a young man puts down his and runs a hand through his thick brown hair. 'Well, that could have gone better…' He picks the phone back up again and checks the time.

6:40 PM

'I should probably make a run to the store before it closes' he take a look around his tiny apartment room, 'maybe I'll have some time to clean up when I get back… before I pass out.' He thinks as he slips on his shoes and walks out the front door of the dingy apartment building into the equally squalid street. The man mutters to himself "I know it saves on travel time, but did I really have to choose the shittiest place I could find?" he chuckles to himself then frowns 'This Uni course is putting me through hell and back, I hope it'll be worth it'

The man continues his Trek to the store, making it to the small corner store nearby.

"Have a good night!"

"Uh yeah thanks you too…" He waves awkwardly to the clerk and makes his way back to his apartment. 'I really need to get out more, but between all my classes and work I can't do shit…'

Mindlessly walking back into his apartment, throwing the bag into the cabinet, and falling into bed the man falls into a deep sleep.

Falling

Through the bed

Through the floor

Through the basement

Through the ground

Down down down down down…

Through reality

What is reality? What is falling? How does one fall if you do not exist?

And then he did exist.

"Wha- ugh I must've fallen asleep… what time is it?" he mumbles he reaches out for his phone only to feel… grass? This sobers him up, shooting up and getting blinded by the sun's rays. 'This is… all wrong, I leave my blinds closed' still in a haze he squints and blocks the sun with his hand, he stands up wobbly and takes a look around finally taking in the weight of the situation.

Forest, as far as he can see. A forest of oak trees with the sun breaking through the gangly branches, the area he woke up in was a small clearing. He looked around finally putting the puzzle pieces together 'no no no! What the hell is this? Where am I? what the fuck is going on' "hello?! Is anyone out there?!"

There was no response back only silence which… wasn't right either. Where were the birds? The bugs? All the sounds that make the forest… alive? All he could hear was the shaking of the leaves and the blowing wind.

Taking a closer look around, he noticed some of the objects from his room strewn around on the forest floor, the items were seemingly random. A packet of paper, his alarm clock, a blanket, a tracksuit from his closet and his backpack. 'at least I have something useful with me… alright Alex, figure this out' the man, Alex, roots through the backpack removing anything useless keeping only the more valuable items like his laptop and water bottle. Throwing the tracksuit into the bag begins heading in a random direction. 'I know I probably shouldn't just run off in a random direction, but I don't think I have any other choice… and whoever did this might come back for all I know…'

Alex slowly starts trudging through the empty forest scanning the trees looking for… anything at this point, the smallest fly even, he was in the middle of the wood during early summer yet, for some reason, there wasn't a swarm of mosquitos surrounding him. This, of course, was all secondary to the problem of waking up in the woods for seemingly no reason. 'Who in their right mind would even do something like this? Nobody but me and the landlord has a key to my apartment, and I would've heard someone breaking in…' Then something far off breaks his train of thought, a rushing noise, water? Water! He starts rushing off in the direction of the noise after walking for over an hour he was desperate to find something, anything that could help him.

The source of the noise finally comes into view, a small stream. Alex rushes to the edge getting down on his knees, he scoops the water with his hands and rubs his face with it. The cool water calming him a little, giving him a little bit of hope, he run his wet hand through his hair letting it drip back into the stream.

'Sigh…' Looking down at the water he sees his face, his sharp jaw, sunken brown eyes with dark bags under them, slightly pale face and his wet brown hair. 'God, I look like a mess…' he thought staring back into the crystal stream. 'Alright, guess I should get moving… maybe I can follow this stream? Or maybe- 'his thought was cut short by a cry, "Fletch!" Alex's head shoots up scanning the area he heard the call come from, seeing a red and white streak out of the corner of his vision, whatever it was is quick. Tracking the streak as it glides from branch to branch before stopping on a tree not far from him, letting Alex get a good look at the… bird? That what it looked like to him, a small red-headed bird with a greyish white body and black wings, in a way it looked… familiar, that call it made too, it almost sounded like… "Fletch! Fletchling!" He shakes his head looking at the bird incredulously, he had to be hallucinating! It was probably whoever kidnapped him how did it, it had to be! Theres just no way he could justify in his mind that what was in front of him was an honest to God "Fletchling!" yeah, that.

"Fletch?" the little bird… Pokemon finally takes notice of him, he stares eye to eye with the little bird before it flies off out of sight. 'That… didn't just happen, did it?' Alex thinks numbly. There was just one thought on his mind now, 'Run get out of here now' He shot up and started running, following the stream further and further running through thorns and bushes unconcerned for the cuts and scrapes he was accumulating. 'Keep going it's not safe here don't trust anything you see' some part of his brain couldn't accept it, wouldn't accept it. Pokemon are fictional, there was something wrong with the forest 'or maybe somethings wrong with me' he brushed that aside now wasn't the time. Adrenaline takes over and Alex pushes himself further and further

Further

Further

'I can't keep going' Alex doubles over panting he had been running for half an hour now, the stream was no longer in sight, he was truly lost now. 'I can be such a dumbass sometimes, but this is next level… I'm going to die out here, aren't I?' The adrenaline has long faded and the thoughts in the back of his head come back all at once, 'This is hopeless, I was drugged, wasn't I? I'm going to die here for some sickos enjoyment'.

It all keeps piling and piling until there's only one thing Alex can do, "AUGHHHHHHHHH!" He screams, a guttural emotional scream of pure hopelessness. A Primal scream that echoes through the history of humanity as a cry for help whether that be to fellow humans or some higher power hoping that whatever put us here would show pity if we screamed loud enough.

Alex collapses right there in the middle of the seemingly endless forest. It was now nearing the late afternoon, as he lay there staring up at the sky watching the light slowly fade, he noticed something, as if scribbled across the sky with a pencil a small grey streak slow rose up over the trees. Was that, smoke? Alex feels a new burst of hope 'fire? this could… this could be my chance!' he stumbles back to his feet for the second time today, he makes his way towards it slowly but surely picking up pace, faster, faster, faster! He keeps going. The trees fade away, a grass field replaces the foliage, faster, faster, faster! The smoke is close now he sees a small hill up ahead, he comes to the top and sees it in front of him, a town, "I made it…" he mumbles to himself, slowly trudging his way closer and closer towards town.

Though it may not be over, the situation was far from hopeless.

I'm going to rewrite and combine a bunch of chapters, I don't like the direction i ended up writing the OG cut of the story and I left a fucking Chekhov's gun in the story with the whole cooking thing and i kinda forced the pokemon trainer Plot point wayyyyy too hard if you couldn't tell
