"Guys, we have to come up with some ideas. Ricky, you got anything?" Rowena Ravenclaw pressed her group of three friends and college roommates. She quickly and haphazardly threw her long silky black hair into a twist and secured it on her head with a large claw clip. Her closest friend of the three, Godric Gryffindor scoffed and brushed her off with a wave of his hand.
"Don't stress it, Row. This project isn't due for another week! Can't we just play drinking games tonight instead?" He encourages in a joking manner even though he is very much being serious. Rowena rolled her eyes at the party boy with a groan and turned to Salazar Slytherin.
"Got anything, Sal?" She asked and he gently set down the book he was reading entitled: 100 Ways to Make Money FAST. His silvery eyes glinted at her and he responded, "Well, the assignment is to create a pretend establishment… What if we-"
Their last friend and roommate interrupted, adding her idea: "Let's make a school! I love kids. They're so fun!" The cheery and excitable Helga Hufflepuff beamed back and forth between Rowena and Salazar. Rowena pointed a finger and said with a smile, "Brilliant! And what should we call it?" Even though Godric had clearly been ignored earlier, he added his opinion, "Something funny like juice farts or piss slu-"
Salazar lifted a hand to stop him. "No, bro. No," He patted his best friend's knee and Godric lifted his hands in confusion.
"I know! Pigfarts," Helga proposed then shared a hearty laugh with the only other person in the room who found it amusing: Godric. Salazar and Rowena glanced at each other for a moment before Rowena proposed a similar name, "Wait. I sort of like that but in an ironic way."
"Yeah! What about something like… Hogwarts?" Salazar joked and Rowena pointed at him and exclaimed, "Yes! Smart! And we can be the heads of the houses!"
"What, like in some sort of private school?" Helga laughed and Godric looked Rowena up and down and said, "Row went to a private boarding school, so, yeah checks out." They all share a friendly laugh. Sal asks the group, "What will we name the houses?" Helga stuffs her mouth with a messy handful of orange chips and responds with her mouthful, "Can it be our last names? It'd be so cool to go to a school and be a 'Hufflepuff', right?" Godric chuckled and said, "Bro, Gryffindor would be a hype house, yo!" Rowena rolled back her shoulders to fix her posture before gloating, "Only the brightest witches and wizards will be sorted into Ravenclaw." Helga scoffed, some bits of crumbs flying out of her mouth as she did.
"And should we decide on mascots and colors?" Salazar wondered. Godric practically jumped up from his seat from excitement.
"Gryffindor's will be lions!" He pumped his fist and Salazar raised an eyebrow at him. "Why not a… I don't know… griffin?" He posed at his dark curly-haired friend. Godric shook his head and groaned, "Boring!" He drew out each syllable of the word to add dramatic effect.
"I call honey badger!" Helga shot up her hand. Rowena eyed her. "You know badgers are dangerous and deadly right?" She slightly judged her friend. Helga smiled innocently and sweetly as she responded in a baby voice, "Yes, but they are just so cute and cuddly!"
"And for your house, Sal?" Rowena looked to Salazar. He quickly responded with, "Snakes, obviously. They're my favorite animal. I'm a parselmouth for a reason, you know." His joke made the group laugh and then he asked Rowena the same question.
"And the Ravenclaw house? Let me guess… a raven?" Rowena shook her head before proudly announcing, "Nope! I've already decided: eagle." The rest of the group, besides her, looked at each other silently for a moment before all bursting out in laughter. She stood there, confused as to what was so amusing.
"What?" She pouted. Salazar spoke in between chuckles, "Your name has the word raven in it, dude! If you're going to choose a bird, at least choose the bird in your name!" Everyone laughed even harder, but Rowena just shrugged and brushed him off. She jotted everything down on her notepad. She then asked, "Okay, what are each of the house's colors?" One by one, each of the three friends gave her their answers.
Helga: "Ooo, uh, yellow and black!" Then Godric: "Gold and red, duh." And Salazar: "Silver and green, obviously." Godric turned to look at him and he gestured his closed fist to his friend to bump with his own.
"Ooo, opposites. Sweet!" Godric shared. Salazar bumped his fist and gave his best friend an understanding nod with his signature smirk.
"What colors are you going to pick, Row?" Helga asked, then shoved a Cheeto into her mouth. Rowena tapped her finger to her chin in thought.
"I really like blue and bronze. I'll go with those," She responded and Godric said, "Tight."
The group gave their opinions and additions to the project before eventually just letting Rowena complete the rest of it on her own. She usually did that and she liked it that way. Once she was done, she titled their history class project: Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft & Wizardry.
