Zelda
I stood in front of my father, his face as expressionless as ever. Link and Impa were kneeling behind me. We were in the sanctum. I had just asked father if he would let the little Guardian follow me on my journey. The said Guardian was hiding behind my legs.
"You intend to let this… relic follow you around, hm? The king said.
That made my blood boil. He isn't just some relic! I thought angrily. He's a key to our past! And our future! Of course I didn't say any of this out loud.
Father sat down on his throne. Mother's cold and empty beside it. I always fought to keep myself from looking at it.
"Yes." I answered. Simple and straightforward. "After talking to Purah and Robbie, we thought it would be best."
We had already informed him of the strange magic happening around his kingdom. Thanks to the two Researchers, we now know that the last surge of magic happened right on Death Mountain itself. Although due to Death Mountain being an active volcano, I didn't tell him that.
"I will remind you once again." He said. "Above all else, your duty is of the utmost importance. Is that clear?"
"Yes, we are clear. I understand." I responded. "And I will honor my duty."
Father still looked unsure, but let me go. Good. Now to start the trek to Goron Village.
When we exited the castle, I looked at a piece of ancient technology I have acquired. It was round, covered in Sheikah symbols, and glowed with an orange light. I have not yet uncovered its secrets, but knew that it was important.
I looked up to the sky. I hope you're proud of me, Mother. I thought before continuing my walk, Link and Impa right behind me.
As we walked away from the castle, I could feel eyes on my back: cold and judging. Without turning around I knew it was father. The little Guardian scrambled around my feet, distracting me from my thoughts. I paused. "What are you?" I asked-not expecting an answer. "What secrets do you hold?"
When we arrived at Death Mountain it was sweltering hot, as one would expect. Before we got too far in, the three of us rubbed fireproof elixirs on us. I honestly feel kind of sorry for Link wearing all that armor while we're at the hottest place in Hyrule. (He refuses to take it off)
When we arrived at Goron Town, we immediately started looking for the Goron Stalwart, Daruk. Who was known for his immense strength and bravery.
We found him outside the town's limits. There I brought up the request.
"What you'll learn from us is that I never refuse a sincere request. So of course I'm on board with your plan." Daruk said.
That-in my opinion-wasn't a good motive to live by, but I was glad he had accepted the request.
"Hmm… except… there is one problem." The Goron said.
That got me curious and a little scared. Was he reconsidering?
"Well, it's just that Rudania is in a difficult place right now." He elaborated, turning his back on them to face the volcano. "The Divine Beast was found pretty high up on Death Mountain. A lot of monsters have been hanging around lately, so even getting close to ol' Rudania is a big pain."
He turned back to face us. "Only the bravest go up there now…" Then he spread his arms wide as if to give us a hug and boomed, "So that's why it's a good thing it's gonna be us!"
We were all thrown back by Daruk's words. Even the little robot who had gone back to hiding behind my legs.
"Oh! Um… of course." I said.
Daruk crossed his arms. "Come on! Death Mountain won't climb itself!" He turned around and began making his way up the Mountain.
Impa and I exchanged glances, not entirely eager to go up a monster-infested volcano. Link was expressionless. I wonder what's going on inside his head…
Anyways, In the end we chose to follow Daruk. Not like we had much of a choice though…
After fighting through hordes of monsters (how are that many? It's Death Mountain! Usually only Fire breathing Lizalfos can survive!) we made it to the mouth of the volcano.
"Oooh." Daruk said. "Seeing it again, it's even bigger than I remembered!"
The Guardian-we really need to come up with a name for it soon-whistled to get Daruk's attention before pointing at the Divine Beast, probably suggesting he practice.
"Alright let's get started then." Daruk said. "Ooo, I can't wait!"
After Daruk's training session-which went very well in case you were wondering-we gathered back at the top to Death Mountain, the lava beneath us. Link stood beside me, in order to catch me if I fell. The fireproof elixir must be wearing off. My face was burning.
We had told Daruk of our little side-mission with the power surges (There's really no other way to say that.) and he was more than happy to help.
At first glance there was no evidence of any traces of Magic. But then there was a slight shimmer in the air above the volcano.
"There it is." I whispered, as if too much of a noise would cause it to disappear.
And if he knew what I was thinking Link grabbed my hand. He stabilized me as I reached out to touch it. (Don't ask me why) My fingertips gently grazed the shimmering air as if it was solid.
And that was all it needed.
When Link pulled me back onto the rock beside him, someone fell from it!
