Eastern, Wyoming Iowa, 2026

A father and his twin children were walking south through what was Grand Teton National Park. The three had walked all the way from Des Moines, Iowa. A revolver was held tightly in his right hand.

The father had done everything he could to protect the two, earning himself a deep scar on his right cheek. Looking at his daughter he feels ashamed seeing a large scar on the lef side of her head that reached to her shoulder, the hair still not growing back. Looking at his son, he sees him rub his long hair. Both looked exhausted.

Looking forward, the father looked for anywhere to take shelter in. He also kept an eye out for anyone of thing that might come to harm his children. The feeling of paranoia had gripped him since the last hunter attack, but it only increased once he got closer to Jackson.

Tightening his grip on the revolver, he looked from side to side unable to get rid of the feeling of being watched out of him. The father spots what looks to be an abandoned farmhouse.

Turning to his children he speaks, pointing at the farmhouse. "I see some shelter over there."

The daughter nods her head. The son decided to speak. "Sounds good dad."

"Good, we haven't stopped for a long time." The father said as they quickly made their way towards the farm, not noticing a sniper keeping an eye on them.

On a hill a good distance away from the farmhouse the sniper watched the father, and his children enter the farmhouse. He then turned towards his companions.

"They entered the farmhouse."

A middle-aged blond female nods. "Alright, Tommy I need you to keep an eye on the road as we approach the farmhouse, anything you can tell us?"

"Two teenagers look tired and hungry." Tommy said. "The adult male is the same but Maria he looks to be wearing a FEDRA uniform."

Maria nodded. "Alright we will be cautious."

The father and his children climbed up the stairs in the farmhouse. They reached what looks to be a master bedroom with a dilapidated mattress. Turning towards his children.

"Ray, Rachel, go get some rest for now, I will keep watch, I will wake you for our meal."

Rachel nodded flopping down while Ray went right to the mattress. "Night dad."

"Night you two."

He left the room, closing the door behind him as he headed downstairs. In the living room there was a couch that could only be described as in shambles. The cushions seem to have mold growing with tears as well. Deciding to take his chances he laid down on it, sleep taking him almost immediately.

With Maria, she and four others rode down to the farm house. They were riding a good half hour before they reached the edge of the property. She got off her horse, then motioned for her people to stay put.

"Are you sure Maria?" A large Samoan man asked.

"I'm sure Eugene." Maria answered. "If we all approached at once, he might think we are hunters."

Eugene still looked unsure before nodding. "Just be careful, Tommy will shoot me in the head if you die."

Maria nodded before making her way up the stairs, to the front door not knowing that the man was ready for them. She entered the house looking around and moved a few steps forward when she heard the unmistakable sound of a hammer being pulled.

"Hands in the air." The father ordered.

Maria complied as she was pat down and her gun was taken from her. "Now!" How long have you been following me?"

"We weren't, one of our lookouts spotted the three of you as you all were walking down the street." Maria explained.

"What do you want?" The father asked.

"We have a town." Maria said calmly. "A place of safety for you and the two that are with you."

The father gave her a look of disbelief. "Why should I trust you?"

"Because me and my people didn't barge in guns a blazing."

Not replying still doubtful Maria continued. "You most likely went through hell…"

"That's one way to put it."

Maria nodded her head in understanding. The father looked at the woman skeptically, but he couldn't detect a lie from her. He took a moment before sighing and lowered his gun.

"Okay, I am going to trust you." He spoke. "I am going upstairs to get my children."

Maria nods as the father makes his way up the stairs. He opened the door to see Rachel sitting up awake while her brother was sleeping soundly.

"Hey Rachel." The father said.

She turned towards her father. "Can you wake your brother please."

Rachel nods before shaking her brother until he woke up. "Sis why…" He was about to ask when he saw her point to their dad.

"Something wrong dad?" Ray asked.

"Hopefully not." He said. "The locals found us."

The daughter tensed up, Ray noticing it moved quickly to rub her back to keep her calm.

"Three of them are outside, and one of them is in the building right now." The father said. "They wish to invite us to their town."

His children widened their eyes stunned. "I'm doubtful, but we are outnumbered, and we are tired and hungry we are not in a position to refuse."

The siblings looked at each other for a moment before turning towards their dad and nodded. They then stood up, grabbed their backpacks, and headed downstairs. The family saw Maria waiting for them.

"Alright, to give you a heads up my husband is a sniper and has his scoop on any threat to me."

The father narrowed his eyes but nodded. The four made their way out of the house to see four people waiting on horses. "We're good everyone." Maria told everyone.

The people on horses relaxed visibly upon seeing their leader. "You alright Maria?" Eugene asked.

"Yeah, come on let's get back to Jackson." Maria said before turning towards the family. "I'm Maria Miller, that's Eugene, Simon, Hector, and Greg."

The father nods, "My name is Graham, that's my son Raymond and my daughter Rachel."

The two raised their hands and gave a timed wave. Maria nodded. "Nic to meet you, we will take you all on horseback."

Graham nodded. "Okay, Rachel ride with Maria, Ray ride with who you are most comfortable with."

Rachel nodded quietly, making her way toward Maria. Ray ga a "yes dad" before making his way toward Eugene. Graham decided to ride with Hector.

The horses took off towards Jackson. They were joined by Tommy a quarter of the way there. The group would eventually come upon the walls around Jackson.

Greg raised his hand with a green cloth on it and the gate a green cloth on it and the gate would be opened for the horses to enter. Entering the gate, the family looked around to see a thriving community. Adults working and children playing. The town also had electricity with the light starting to illuminate the darkening sky.

Graham looked at his children. Ray looked around in cautious wonder, but Ratchel looked around in apprehension. He sighed he hoped that this is the place they will be safe and that they can start to heal.

"Graham, come I would like to introduce you to the council." Maria said.

"Right." He said carefully handing Maria back her gun before heading further into town.
