Early the next morning, after getting showered and dressed, I was in the process of making my breakfast of waffles and French toast when I heard a tap on the window…that came from Buck, who held my robe and pillow on his mouth like a dog.
I went to the back door, opening it to let Buck poke his head inside and set the robe and pillow in my hands, saying. "Thanks."
"Oh, uh…you're welcome." I said back, then turned to see the night sky slowly turn into day.
"Well, I…guess you'll be going, huh?"
I started to close the back door, but Buck pulled it open with his hoof, saying. "Actually, I owe you an apology for how I acted last night. And for misjudging you."
"You…misjudged me?" I asked.
"Yeah." replied Buck. "See, I thought you would be like those little munchkins over at…well, you know where. But after what you left out, I…guess I was wrong."
"Well, I'm not one to hold a grudge." I said. "But I appreciate the apology."
Just when I was about to close the back door again, but Buck pulled it open again.
"Now what?" I asked.
"Will you take me with you?" he asked back.
"To Bowditch? Why?"
"Look, the dog that was here, Rusty, he must've sensed where I am." explained Buck. "And there's a possibility that he'll be back, scratching on your door. So…"
He stared at me with those big puppy-like eyes, whimpering like one as well.
My own eyes frowned, but, then, softened on seeing the look.
With a sigh, I said with a little smile. "How can I resist that face?"
Presuming that was a yes, Buck gasped with delight.
"But you're gonna have to be in disguise so they won't recognize you." I said. "And I think I have something that might be your size."
Buck looked at me, raising one of his eyebrows with confusion.
