Chapter 1
Loud noises filled each compartment, kids were screaming of happiness, or yelling goodbye to their parents. It wasn't very enjoyable to be surrounded by the loud noises of the over excited kids, but hey, Remus was lucky to even just be on the express at all.
At age four, Remus was attacked by a werewolf, causing him to become one himself. His parents had tried hard to find a cure but no cure like that existed. They had all lost hope that Remus would ever be accepted into a wizarding school due to the discrimination werewolves faced, but then Dumbledore came along, and allowed Remus to join Hogwarts. It was a miracle really that he even got accepted into Hogwarts, his heart had skipped a beat the second Dumbledoor offered the opportunity to him.
So now here he was, sitting in a compartment all by himself… He hadn't any friends because he was afraid of his secret spilling out.
Remus watched as kids jumbled into compartments, yelling to get "the best" ones. Suddenly, he heard someone knocking on the door to his compartment and he quickly pulled his sleeves down to hide the horrid scars that covered his body.
Remus gestured that the boy come in, and he closed the door behind him.
"Can I come in, everyone's taken the other cabins," The boy explained.
"Uh…" Remus didn't know what to say, "Sure I guess…"
"Thanks lad!" he said, taking a seat across from him, a wide grin spread across his face. "What's your name? I'm Kingesly Shackelbolt by the way in case you wanted to know."
"Uh, I'm R-Remus, Remus Lupin." Remus stuttered a little bit.
"Hey, where did you get those scars?" Kingsley questioned and Remus's blood ran cold. I couldn't cover my face scars, he growled to himself.
"Hmm?" Remus shrugged trying to get Kingsley to change his mind.
"Where'd you get those ones on your face?" Kingsley asked and Remus gulped, it sounded loud to him so he thought that Kingsley could hear him, but he never brought it up.
Remus hadn't thought about what he would say to any one who saw his scars and questioned him, now his heart was beating really fast and sweat was forming in the palms of his hands.
"Hello? Remus to world!" Kingsley snapped Remus out of his thoughts, he was waving his hands wildly like a maniac. Apparently Remus had blanked out for a few seconds.
"Oh, what? These?" Remus replied at last tracing the scars that slashed across his face, it made
him feel sick to the stomach. "Um, well… i, uh, was attacked. By an a-animal." he stuttered the last word, because he actually was attacked by an animal, and that animal was himself…
"A Kneazle or something? I actually have one at home and her scratches are terrible! She actually gave me this right before I came on the express!" Kingsley exclaimed, pulling up one of his sleeves to reveal a small scratch that most people would say was bad, but was not even close to what Remus endured each month.
Mine are like a hundred times worse than that little mark! Remus thought.
"I don't actually remember…"
"What? How can you "not remember"? An animal that scratched you that badly wouldn't just leave a hole in your mind like that!" Kingsley now sounded sort of angry, Remus just wanted to curl up into a ball and disappear.
Suddenly, Remus was saved by the sound of the trolley women.
"Anything from the trolley!" she hollered before stopping at their compartment. "You want anything from the trolley dears? We have pumpkin pasties, licorice wands, and even a new batch of cauldron cakes if you're in the mood!"
"Yes please!" Kingsley beamed, pouring out some coins from his pockets, he walked up to the trolley, ordering his goodies with great enthusiasm.
Remus took one single sickle from his pocket. His parents had given him a couple of coins in case he wanted to buy something on the train.
He walked up, eyeing the delicious treats.
"One chocolate frog please." Remus said, handing the nice looking woman his sickle. She smiled, taking the sickle and picking up a chocolate frog.
"Here you go dear," she said, handing Remus the small packaging which held the chocolate that
Remus was craving ever so badly.
Remus settled down, looking at Kingsley and he spread his load of treats on his seat. Kingsley began eating some Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans when he realized that Remus was looking at him.
"Want some?" He questioned, reaching for a handful of the Every Flavored beans.
"Oh, no, I'm good." Remus replied, beginning to open the packaging that held the sweet and
Savory chocolate frog.
Remus had loved chocolate since a young age, and he knew all the best ones, because after tough transformations (which were most of the time), Remus's Mom, Hope, would let him try lots of new chocolates.
Remus took out the chocolate frog from its package, not even giving a glimpse to the card, he never cared much about the cards, and he mostly gave them to his Muggle Mother who was always fascinated by the way the people on the cards moved.
"Do you want the card, I don't care for them really." Remus said, pushing the card towards Kingsley who picked it up quickly.
"Hey! I used to collect these!" he said beaming, "Lets see who it is!" Kingsley flipped the card over revealing a man with white hair and a funny looking mustache.
"Hey! That's a coincidence!" He chuckled, showing Remus the person on the card, it was Bertie Bott, creator of the every flavor beans that Kingsley had in his mouth.
"He invented Bertie Bott's every flavor beans quite by mistake. His original purpose was to create tasty sweets from food. After an accident during his experiment, he recognized the sales potential of flavors that range from delicious to disgusting, including marshmallow, tutti - frutti, grass, soap, and earwax." read Kingsley as he squinted at the small words printed on the card.
A few hours passed, Kingsley doing most of the talking, and finally the train came to a halt.
"Are we here!" Kingsley exclaimed standing up from his seat. Remus nodded and stood up more slowly. Everyone was leaving the train quickly, excited to get to the school.
Everyone went silent when they saw the castle, its peaks towering to the sky. Everyone was in awe at the amazing sight.
Remus was going to soon begin his year at Hogwarts, he didn't know whether to feel excited or anxious, or a mix of the two…
