CH3
I almost fell out of my chair that I had just sat in, "Bakugo!" I was amazed that I didn't even stutter at his sudden intrusion. I cleared my throat and looked him over for injuries. It was hard to tell without touching him to tell if he had any serious injuries. "Is everything okay? I didn't think you would come in to see me."
He was silent, just staring at me with the signature scowl before he walked over to the small bench I had set up and sat down. Bakugo could not hide the wince of pain as he lowered himself down. I was instantly moving to his side before I could think, the medical professional in me couldn't help but want to access the damage. I reached my hand out to touch his side, who knew what would be hidden under that dark fabric. His gloved hand captured my wrist swiftly, his grip much gentler than it was at the hospital. "Heal yourself first. You got hurt, didn't you?"
His eyes held mine again, the red clashing with the gray. I let out a sigh and shook my head, trying to pull my wrist away, "I was already looked at. I'm fine-"
He cut me off, his fingers wrapping tighter on my skin, "Don't lie to me."
I tried not to shiver at the tone of his voice, the concern was there underneath all the blustered-up anger. "Seriously! There isn't much that they can do that hasn't already been done. So, let go." I pried his fingers away; I knew he was letting me do it with the little resistance he put up. "And let me look." I wasted no time lifting his shirt and touching his skin again. The breath hissed out from between his lips, again another reaction like at the hospital. It was odd though since I had never had a patient react that way before. When I used my quirk people's pain stopped immediately, and it was almost always a sigh of relief. I looked back up at him, "Am I hurting you?"
He frowned, creating little wrinkles along his brow, "Something like you touching me wouldn't hurt me." Bakugo looked away from me and started to ask me questions before I could say anything in response to him. "So how does your quirk really work? Is it hard to use?"
I blinked for a moment, I was not anticipating him to actually ask about me or my quirk. In all actuality I was expecting him to berate me for not getting him healed up sooner.
I was quiet too long as he waved a hand in front of my face, "Hello? Are you even listening to me?"
"Sorry, um, yeah it was hard to learn how to use it at first. Simply put I take the pain and hurt from you and take it. I feel everything you feel and once I take it from you my quirk activates your cells to start healing and repairing themselves." I kept my hands steady as I healed him, "It works through touch, so I am not too much help out there in the field. I think that's why I became a doctor. I don't know why I'm rambling like this." I could feel my vision getting blurry on the edges from overusing my quirk today, every muscle ached and was sore.
I felt my hands being yanked away from his body. "So, healing causes you pain?" Bakugo's face was an odd mix of concerned and annoyed, but overall it was dead serious. I couldn't help but gasp in shock when he took my hands away.
"I mean, a little but it's nothing I'm not use to." I frowned at him, "I am more than capable of stopping if I think it's too much Bakugo." The scowl returned to his face as I said his name. I pulled my hands out of his grip again, "You will not grab me again like that. I think I have done as much as I can for you right now. Please leave and if you need me later, try not to." I stomped over to the tent flap and held it open for him.
"I won't, trust me." He stormed out, I felt the anger billowing off him, but I was satisfied with standing my ground. I would not let him push me around because he thinks he knows better than me! I huffed as he left and let the tent flap fall back into place and obscuring me from view. I sat down at my desk, furiously filling out triage papers to take back to the hospital. It wasn't long before the anger wore off and my eyes grew heavy.
I set my pen down and laid my head on my folded arm. I would just rest for a little bit, just a quick cat nap. I was asleep before someone entered the tent...
…
The sky was growing dark, and the air was beginning to chill, but Bakugo still hadn't cooled off. There just was something so infuriating about that woman! It didn't matter what she said or did, she always managed to piss him off. He had been doing laps around the camp in an effort to appease his anger but to no reward. In fact, it did quite the opposite and ramped him up.
At this point he had psyched himself up to go try to talk to her again, he was only trying to look out for her wellbeing. It was obvious that she was already pushing herself too far by trying to heal him. Her eyes looked so tired; her eye lids were heavy with exhaustion when he spotted her after returning to base camp. Not that he was in search of her, he was just following up after the attack earlier. Nothing more.
It also didn't help that every time she touched his skin, she set it ablaze. That was something she was picking up on and he didn't like that either. The last thing he needed was for her to realize she caused a reaction to him. He was a pro Hero, there was no time for all of this! He let out an audible groan of frustration. Damn, this! Forget all of this! He looked up and realized his feet had already brought him in the direction of her tent.
There was a light inside that illuminated the canvas walls, he was able to make out the shape of her desk and the bench on the other side. From where he stood across the way he could see the shape of her slumped over her desk. He didn't mean to, but he stood and watched for a few moments, his anger subsiding. He wasn't a total monster to go pick a fight with her when she was totally exhausted. A heavy sigh escaped him as he was about to turn away when he noticed a shadow appear in the corner of the tent.
The shadow moved slowly and effortlessly, having seemed to materialize into existence and definitely did not enter through the opening. The man shaped blob made its way over towards her, and warning bells fired off in his head. His heart rate picked up as again his feet moved on instinct, propelling him towards the tent and the unknown threat. He was through the tent opening in all of two seconds, his fists were raised and ready to fight.
However, as his eyes darted around the space, the shadow was gone, and nothing seemed to be out of place. His heart was still beating fast, and he still felt as if danger was still near. Bakugo turned his attention to Marigold, who was peacefully asleep at her desk. Her arms cradled her head, her papers were neatly pushed to the side and clipped together. She was so blissfully unaware of what potential danger she could have been in, and it made him see red.
He barely gave it a second thought as he moved towards her and hauled her up out of her sleep. The shock and fear that crossed her face was enough to make him feel vindicated by his current actions. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
...
My peaceful dream was interrupted as someone pulled me up out of my chair and into consciousness. I sputtered for a moment, trying to regain my senses. I blinked up to look at Bakugo, "What-What is going on? Is there another attack?" The look of anger on his face is what really worried me, the grip on my arms was almost bruising.
"What's going on?" He repeated the question back to me, I could not begin to figure out what he could mean before he started speaking again, "What is wrong with you? How could you fall asleep at your desk like that?!" His voice raised louder at the end of his sentence.
"What are you talking about?" I scrunched my brows together, "I was doing some paperwork, and I must have dozed but what does that matter? Is there some sort of threat?" I put my hands up to touch his chest, but my hands never made contact. He jumped away, releasing his tight hold on me.
"You wouldn't know if there was a threat if you fall asleep at your desk like that!" His tone was defensive, and he was looking everywhere but at me. "You have no idea if any one of that villain's lackeys could strike back at us, at any given moment. I thought I warned you about pushing yourself too hard." He did look at me for the last part, his words stinging a little with the venom he spewed on them.
"I would hardly think that taking a nap within this heavily guarded and fortified camp filled with pro heroes warrants this type of interaction Bakugo." I crossed my arms and frowned at him, "What is this all about? Because I know you didn't come in here just to yell at me for that." It was my turn to scowl, "You're usually good about getting straight to the point."
It was rare to see Katsuki Bakugo at a loss for words, and if I had a camera to capture the moment, at risk of my own life, I would have. "I-I was just coming to check...on you." He actually stuttered the sentence out, causing my jaw to drop. "I was impressed with the way you ran out there to help others today, but you were dumb to get caught on the way back." He looked at me, a serious expression on his face, "You are better suited for non-combat situations."
I could feel the indignant response rise in my throat, he has just acknowledged my worst fear and greatest downfall. A hard knot began to form in the pit of my stomach, the anxiety filled my throat, and I could feel my heartbeat in my ears. I had to keep my lips pressed into a hard line in order to not cut him off.
"But you did pretty good out there." Bakugo managed to make a small smile for me. "You could always learn some hand-to-hand combat skills." He waved his hand back towards me, "You could really tone up those muscles too. Looking a little flabby there, Doctor." His body posture relaxed as he teased me.
At his words, the anxiety crept back down, the tightness in my chest loosened and I let out a slow breath. I could actually smile back at him and tease him back. "What? Are you going to train me?" I debated for a second but decided to do it anyway. I reached out and poked a finger at his bicep, "Am I going to get swole like you?" His laugh caught me off guard, the sound almost sounded too foreign for such an angry guy like him. My heart skipped a beat.
"You could never look like me." He grinned at me, "But we could whip you into decent shape. With a lot of work."
