CHAPTER 6
Zim nodded. It hadn't worked out so well the last time he'd done something like that. But then again Leland had taught him that gambit in the first place. Maybe it would work better this time out. "Okay."
"I understand that you're not in this merely because you're a good person," Leland said. "And you are a very good person. One of the best I know. So I've arranged for you to get a little revenge for yourself, too. Since you're out of the Cage and all."
"Bruni," Zim said. He'd wanted that son of a bitch to suffer for a long time, especially after the Wild Turkey 101 incident after a drunken night at TGI Friday's.
"No, he sadly died in Hell," Leland said. "But Fitz and Brandon are still in Braidwood."
"Those bastards," Zim said. Growing up, he could lay the blame for all the torment he suffered at the feet of these two. Fitz in particular.
"Get your revenge first, and then we'll work on my Kristen problems. I got you a car and some fake ID. I mean, it says you're Cris Zim, but it's fake all the same." He pushed a manila envelope to him. "There's a motel not too far from Braidwood. I took the initiative to get you a room there."
"Awesome," Zim said. He grabbed the envelope, pleased to see there was a thousand bucks in there, too.
"Your car is waiting for you outside. I know you want a cool ride, so I got you a classic Mustang."
That was pretty cool. He twirled the key ring on one finger until it fell off. Cursing, he bent down to pick them up. He was glad that Fitz and Brandon weren't here to see how uncool that was. Leland was good, though. He never called him out on anything. That's all Zim wanted out of life.
"I have a good feeling about this," Leland said. "You and I, Cris, we're going to put an end to their evil."
"Good." Zim paused. "Whoa. Evil backwards is live. I just thought of that. I'm pretty smart." He pointed a finger to one of his temples.
"Very smart, indeed, Cris. Go forth and conquer."
Zim took the elevator down and walked out to the street. A Mustang waited for him there. He slid behind the wheel and turned it on. The motor purred, sending pleasant vibrations through him. He then drove it out to the motel Leland mentioned and got his room. Once there, he decided to defy Leland just a little bit.
Zim figured he could get his revenge later. For now he'd indulge his favorite pastime.
Zim took a nap.
