Chapter 36: Echoes of the Past II
Following his standoff with the Raikage and Darui among others, Goku flew through the skies, his heart heavy. He carried Krillin's lifeless body gently, the weight of his friend's death pressing down on him. Tambourine had killed Krillin, and in retaliation, Goku destroyed him.
But vengeance as usual was only a temporary solution.
As he neared the Orin Temples that surrounded Kumogakure territory, the air grew thinner, the altitude taking him higher into the clouds. The temples, nestled among the mountains, exuded a serene aura.
Goku descended slowly, his feet touching the ground with a soft thud. The monks, alerted by his arrival, gathered around. They looked at him with a mix of curiosity and solemnity, their eyes lingering on Krillin's lifeless form.
One of the elder monks, with a long white beard and kind eyes, stepped forward. "You must be Son Goku," he said softly. "Krillin spoke highly of you."
Goku nodded, his eyes downcast. "Yes, I'm Goku. Krillin... he was my best friend."
The monk placed a comforting hand on Goku's shoulder. "We are sorry for your loss. Krillin was a brave and honorable warrior. We will honor him here."
Goku gently laid Krillin's body on the ground, his fingers lingering for a moment on his friend's cold skin. "Thank you," he said quietly. "He didn't deserve this."
The monks began to prepare a proper ceremony for Krillin, their movements precise and respectful. Goku watched in silence, his mind replaying memories of his time with Krillin—the laughter, the training, the battles they had fought side by side.
As the ceremony commenced, Goku found a quiet spot overlooking the temples. The view was breathtaking, the mountains stretching out as far as the eye could see, their peaks shrouded in mist. The cloudiness gave the area a mystical quality, the temples appearing as sanctuaries in the sky.
Goku sat down, hugging his knees to his chest. He let his mind wander, thinking about Krillin, about their adventures, and about the future, specifically what he had to do next.
After the ceremony, the Saiyan walked around the temples, taking in the sights. The tranquility of the place was a stark contrast to the chaos that had become his life. The monks went about their daily routines, their lives seemingly untouched by the outside world's violence.
A life he could not fathom living.
Not that he would want to, he was still Son Goku.
He was bred, trained, cultivated, wired, literally programmed to fight.
As Goku wandered, he sensed a relatively notable ki nearby. It wasn't particularly threatening, but it was noteworthy enough to catch his attention. He also sensed faint traces of a demonic feeling ki, a reminder of the recent attack in the area.
The Saiyan drifted toward the source of the ki, his curiosity piqued. The altitude and the stillness of the mountains added a sense of suspense to his journey. The landscape was vast and quiet, the only sound the wind whispering through the peaks.
Goku continued his search, his suspense building with each passing moment. The traces of demonic ki added an unsettling edge to his exploration, reminding him of the dangers that lurked in the shadows.
He needed to eliminate them.
As he flew, his mind kept returning to Krillin. He thought about their years of training under Master Roshi. Krillin had been more than a friend—he had been a brother.
His biggest regret was that he didn't make any effort to maintain that bond over the past two years.
The mountains stretched on, their peaks lost in the clouds. Goku's senses were on high alert, his body tense with anticipation.
As he flew through the sky, the ki signature he sensed earlier grew ever stronger. Following the locale, he found himself approaching an imposing mountain, its peak shrouded in smoke and flames that licked the sky. At its base stood what looked to be a grand castle, also engulfed in flames.
Did Tambourine set it on fire?
Goku descended, landing softly on the scorched ground. His eyes scanned the area and fell upon a girl standing over a grave marked with an ox-hat as a makeshift tombstone. The grave suggested it belonged to a massive man. The girl seemed lost in thought, her eyes filled with sorrow.
Dropping from the sky, Goku's sudden arrival startled the girl. Reacting instinctively, she shot a green beam of ki at him from her helmet. The boy leaned backward nimbly, evading the attack with ease.
"Whoa! Hold on! I'm not here to fight!" the Saiyan exclaimed, flailing up his hands in a non-threatening manner.
The girl's eyes widened in surprise but she didn't lower her guard. "Who are you?" she demanded.
"I'm Goku," he said simply, his tone sincere. "I saw the fire and sensed a strong ki here. What's going on?"
The girl slightly hesitated before answering. "My name is Chi-Chi. This grave belongs to my father, the Ox-King. He died protecting me."
Goku's eyes softened with sympathy. "I'm sorry, Chi-Chi. What happened?"
Chi-Chi's expression hardened as she recounted her story. "A few weeks ago, a demon attacked our home. My father fought to protect me and told me to run. When I came back after the commotion died down, I found him dead with a yellow paper that said 'Demon' in kanji on it."
Goku clenched his fists in silent anger, feeling the weight of yet another life lost that he might have saved.
Piccolo Daimao was a deadman walking.
"I'm sorry about your father," he said softly. "Was the demon green and fish looking?"
Chi-Chi nodded. "I think so. I didn't get a good look, but the attacker had wings and a kanji on him."
Goku looked at the burning castle and the grave, feeling a deep sense of responsibility. "I promise I'll get revenge for your father, Chi-Chi."
Chi-Chi's eyes filled with determination. "I want to help you. Please, let me come with you."
Goku hesitated. "It's dangerous. I don't want you to get hurt."
Chi-Chi stepped closer, her resolve unwavering. "I'm not afraid. My father died protecting me. I want to fight for him."
Goku looked into her eyes and saw her will. Those were eyes that screamed there was no refusal to be had. With a reluctant nod, he agreed. "Alright. Get your stuff and grab on tight to my back."
Chi-Chi ran into the remnants of the castle, emerging a few moments later with a small bag. She approached Goku, confusion on her face. "Do you not have a vehicle?"
The Saiyan grinned, his carefree nature shining through. "My energy is my vehicle."
Chi-Chi opened her mouth to ask what he meant, but before she could, Goku lifted off the ground, carrying her with him. They soared into the sky, leaving the burning mountain and the grave behind.
The girl held on tightly, her eyes wide with a mix of fear and excitement. "This is incredible!"
The boy smiled, feeling a surge of energy. "Yeah, it's pretty cool. Hang on, we've got a long way to go."
As they flew higher, the burning mountain became a distant memory. The world below them stretched out in all directions, a vast landscape filled with both danger and adventure. Goku's mind raced with possibilities, what was next?
Chi-Chi, despite the sadness of losing her father, felt a spark of hope. She wasn't alone in her quest for justice anymore.
She had the protagonist on her side.
Shikamaru sat in the Hokage's office, his brow furrowed in thought. The room was filled with the faint scent of paper and ink, a constant reminder of the endless stream of missions and reports that flowed through the village. Tsunade, the Godaime Hokage, leaned back in her chair, her expression ever serious.
"Shikamaru, we need to strengthen our alliance with Suna. Their village is in disarray, and they lack leadership at the top. We can't afford to lose them as allies, especially after the damage caused by Orochimaru's manipulation," Tsunade explained, her voice firm.
Shikamaru nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "So, you want me to go to Suna and get them to sign the treaty?"
"Exactly. But I don't want you going alone. You'll need a team," Tsunade replied, her eyes scanning a list of available shinobi.
Shikamaru sighed inwardly. The idea of another mission, especially one involving politics, was troublesome. But he knew it was necessary. "Alright, I'll put together a team."
He left the Hokage's office, his mind already running through the list of potential teammates. The village was still recovering from the aftermath of the battles within the past year, and many of the top shinobi were either deployed or unavailable.
Even the once cute little genin that the infamous Kill Orochimaru team was composed of.
The air grew colder as they ascended, the wind whipping past them. Goku's expression was one of focus, his mind already running through their next move. Chi-Chi clung to him, her thoughts a whirlwind of emotions.
As they flew, the landscape below shifted from the fiery chaos of Mount Frypan to the serene beauty of the countryside. The mountains gave way to rolling hills and dense forests, the sky a canvas of stars.
"Goku! Thank you!" Chi-Chi said aloud, her voice almost lost in the wind.
Goku glanced back at her, his eyes filled with energy. "You're welcome! We'll make sure your father's sacrifice wasn't in vain!"
Chi-Chi's earlier unspoken curiosity about ki was piqued once more as their flight to the "middle of nowhere" progressed.
"So, ki is like energy inside us?" Chi-Chi asked, her voice filled with wonder.
"Yeah, it's kinda like that," Goku replied. "When you use it right, you can do all sorts of cool stuff. Fly, get stronger, move faster. It's all about control and training."
Chi-Chi nodded, her eyes wide with fascination. "I want to learn how to use it too."
Goku grinned. "I can teach you, no problem! But first, I'm hungry. You hungry?"
As if on cue, the smell of a campfire wafted through the air. Chi-Chi's stomach growled in response. "Yeah, I'm starving."
Following the scent, they descended toward the ground, landing near a campfire where a giant fish was steadily being cooked. Goku's eyes lit up at the sight of the food, and without a second thought, he tore into it with his bare hands, devouring most of it in seconds. He ripped off the tail and tossed it to Chi-Chi.
Chi-Chi watched him, finding his barbaric eating habits oddly endearing. She nibbled on the tail, enjoying the moment despite the chaos.
Their moment of satisfaction was abruptly interrupted by a furious man with wild hair, wearing a muted orange shirt and sandals. He stormed toward them, his face twisted in anger. "Hey! That was my fish!"
Goku looked up, his mouth full of food. "Sorry about that. I was really hungry," he said, still munching on the fish.
The man, Yajirobe, glared at Goku. "You're gonna make it up to me, kid. That was my catch!"
Goku stood up, still holding the fish. "I said I was sorry. I'll make it up to you, promise."
Yajirobe's eyes narrowed. "You're gonna regret that."
THOOOM!
The two launched into a humorous bout, tussling like two apex predators over a carcass. They rolled on the ground, each trying to wrestle the fish from the other. Chi-Chi laughed heartily at the sight, enjoying the absurdity of the situation.
"Both of you are just ridiculous," Chi-Chi said between giggles. "I might just be the best cook in the world, even at my age. If you stop fighting, maybe I can prove it?"
Goku paused, looking at her with wide eyes. "Really? You think you're that good?"
Chi-Chi nodded confidently. "Just wait and see."
The promise of a good meal was enough to halt their hilarious war. Goku and Yajirobe finally let go of the fish, eyeing each other warily. They then set off to hunt for more food, their competitive spirits temporarily pacified.
As they walked through the forest, Goku turned to Yajirobe. "Hey, have you seen a green monster thing around here?"
Yajirobe patted his belly, a satisfied grin spreading across his face. "Yeah, some weird thing came at me not too long ago. It was tasty."
Goku's eyes widened in surprise. "You ate it? How strong are you?"
Yajirobe shrugged nonchalantly. "Strong enough. That thing didn't stand a chance."
Goku marveled at Yajirobe's strength. "You might be stronger than Krillin! And the Raikage too!"
Yajirobe grunted. "I just do what I do. No fancy training, just me and my sword."
Goku nodded, deep in thought. "There's always someone stronger, huh?"
The fact that Yajirobe was this much of a beast despite no form of ki training was genuinely absurd.
Without his own training with Roshi and the events after, he would probably be so much weaker than Yajirobe it wouldn't even be a genuine comparison.
After they finished their hunt, Chi-Chi began to prepare the food. She used the tools she had packed in her bag, seasoning the meat and making it flavorful. Goku watched in awe as she expertly rationed the portions, giving herself just enough to be full.
When Goku took his first bite, he nearly jumped for joy. "This is amazing Chi-Chi! You really might be the best cook ever!"
Chi-Chi beamed, her heart swelling with pride. "Told you so."
Yajirobe ate quietly, his usual gruff demeanor softened by the delicious food. "Not bad, kid. Not bad at all."
As they sat around the campfire, their bellies full, the atmosphere was one of contentment and camaraderie. Chi-Chi felt an instantaneous wild attraction to Goku, drawn to his carefree nature and nigh boundless energy.
Goku leaned back, his eyes on the stars. "This is a nice change of pace. Just hanging out, eating good food."
Chi-Chi nodded, her gaze fixed on Goku. "Yeah, it really is."
Yajirobe grunted in agreement. "Could be worse. Still mad you ate my food though."
The night wore on, the campfire crackling softly. Goku's mind wandered to the future, to the challenges that lay ahead.
As the fire died down, the boy stood up, his energy renewed. "I gotta keep moving. There's some more demons I need to hunt."
Chi-Chi stood up with him. "I'm coming with you."
Yajirobe stretched and yawned. "I'll stay here. Too much excitement for one night."
Goku smiled at his new friends. "Thanks for the food, Chi-Chi. And Yajirobe, thanks for the fish. Again I'm sorry."
Yajirobe waved him off. "Yeah, yeah. Just don't eat my food again."
With that, Goku and Chi-Chi took to the sky, their spirits higher than they were previously. The night was filled with possibilities, and though the future was uncertain, it was still tempered with excitement.
As they flew, Chi-Chi looked at Goku, her heart racing. "So, what's next?"
Goku grinned, his attitude permeating through his energy. "Don't have a clue. Let's go find out."
Shikamaru sat across from his father, Shikaku, the familiar shogi board between them. The gentle rustling of leaves outside and the occasional chirping of birds provided a backdrop to their intense strategic discussion. The pieces on the board mirrored the thoughts racing through the chunin's mind.
Shikaku moved a piece thoughtfully. "So, you're being sent to Suna to solidify the alliance."
Shikamaru nodded, his eyes focused on the board. "Yeah, it's crucial. Without their support, we're ultimately more vulnerable."
Shikaku raised an eyebrow. "And you need to choose your team carefully. This isn't just a diplomatic mission; it could turn dangerous."
Shikamaru sighed, leaning back slightly. "I know. That's why I'm thinking about who to bring. We need a balance of strength, intelligence, and adaptability."
Shikaku watched his son carefully. "Who do you have in mind?"
Shikamaru tapped his chin, considering his options. "Ino. She's really strong now, reliable in terms of our chemistry, and her Shintenshin no Jutsu could be useful for negotiations. This also makes her good at reading people, which could be a great help in assessing Suna's intentions."
Shikaku nodded approvingly. "Good choice. She has the finesse needed for diplomacy."
"Then there's Neji," Shikamaru continued. "His Byakugan is invaluable. He can spot any potential threats before they become a problem, and his combat skills are still close to top-notch."
"Neji's a solid choice," Shikaku agreed. "He's dependable and his skills would definitely be an asset."
Shikamaru moved a piece on the board, thinking of his next candidate. "Lee. His energy and determination are unmatched. He's always ready for a challenge, and his physical prowess can't be underestimated. We need a big gun."
Shikaku chuckled. "Lee's enthusiasm might be just what you need to keep the team motivated. And his combat abilities undoubtedly speak for themselves."
As they played, Shikamaru's mind wandered to the potential threats they might face. "We also have to consider the possibility of interference. This Piccolo Daimao bastard is a wild card. If he or his army shows up, we need to be prepared."
Shikaku's expression turned serious. "You're right. From what we know, he's incredibly powerful. And let's not forget about the Red Ribbon Army. From what you reported, Kabuto was a nightmare, and there could be more cyborgs like him."
The son moved another piece, his eyes narrowing. "We need to be ready for anything. That's why the team has to be versatile. We need to be able to adapt to whatever comes our way."
The father leaned back, studying the board. "It sounds like you've got a solid plan. But remember, strategy isn't just about having the right pieces. It's about how you use them."
Shikamaru nodded thoughtfully. "I know. And that's why I want to make sure every move counts."
The two continued to play in silence for a while, the clacking of shogi pieces the only sound. Shikamaru's mind raced with potential scenarios, each one more complex than the last. He knew that the mission to Suna wasn't just about securing an alliance. It was about ensuring the safety and future of Konoha.
"I also have to think about contingencies," Shikamaru said, breaking the silence. "If things go south, we need to have an exit strategy."
Shikaku moved a piece, his eyes meeting Shikamaru's. "That's wise. Always have a backup plan."
Shikamaru's thoughts shifted to the other members of the Kill Orochimaru team. Naruto was still away from the village with Jiraiya. Hinata was already deployed on another mission. Sasuke and Kakashi were out of sight, out of mind. Sakura was tied up at the hospital. Haku, though skilled, was primarily assigned as an Anbu. Tenten, though a less useless shinobi in modern times, didn't fit the specific needs of this mission. Choji and Kiba's absence was a painful reminder of the stakes they faced.
And last but definitely the greatest, Son Goku was Kami knows where in the world right now.
"Hinata's out, Naruto's out, Goku's out, and Sasuke and Kakashi are on another mission," Shikamaru mused. "Sakura's busy at the hospital, and Haku's with the Anbu. Tenten... she's not quite right for this."
Shikaku moved his final piece, placing Shikamaru in checkmate. "Remember, Shikamaru, strategy is about anticipation. Always think a few steps ahead."
Shikamaru looked at the board, acknowledging his father's victory. "I know. That's why I'm planning for every possibility."
Shikaku stood up, placing a hand on his son's shoulder. "You'll do fine. Trust your instincts and your team. You're a brilliant strategist, and you'll lead them well."
Shikamaru nodded, the weight of responsibility settling on his shoulders. "Thanks, Dad. I'll make sure we come back with that treaty."
As he left the room, Shikamaru's mind continued to churn with plans and strategies. The shadows of Piccolo Daimao and potential android threats loomed large, but he didn't give a fuck.
Nobody was dying on his watch again, write that in stone. Even if he had to transform into Son Goku himself.
"I'll make sure we succeed," he vowed quietly. "Nobody dies this time."
Shikamaru found himself deep in thought as he walked through the village. He needed to recruit his team members carefully, understanding their motivations and readiness for what lay ahead. His first stop was the Yamanaka Flower Shop.
"Ino, can we talk?" Shikamaru asked as he entered the shop.
Ino looked up from arranging a bouquet, her expression curious. "Sure. What's up?"
"I've been assigned a mission to secure an alliance with Suna. It's crucial for Konoha's future. I need you on my team," Shikamaru explained, his tone serious.
Ino placed the flowers down and crossed her arms, studying him. "You need me, huh? What's the mission about, exactly?"
Shikamaru sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Suna's in a fragile state after the invasion. They lack leadership and stability. We need to ensure they sign a treaty to solidify our alliance."
Ino nodded slowly, considering his words. "I understand. It's been tough lately, with everything that's happened. But if we can make a difference, I'm ready."
Shikamaru gave her a small, appreciative smile. "Thanks, Ino. Your skills will be invaluable. Your ability to read people and gather information could be crucial for this mission."
Ino smirked slightly. "Well, I am pretty good at that. Plus, it sounds like a challenge, and I could use something like this to take my mind off things."
Shikamaru's smile widened. "Glad to have you on board."
Next, he headed to the training grounds, where Neji was practicing. The Hyuga prodigy moved with precision, his Byakugan activated as he performed a series of intricate maneuvers.
Just because Hinata had far surpassed him did not mean he was allowed to be useless like the girl who endeared him in Tenten. He still possessed a semblance of pride after all, he was still a man.
"Neji, I need your help with a mission to Suna," Shikamaru called out, interrupting the training.
Neji stopped, his intense gaze turning toward Shikamaru. "What's the objective?"
"Securing an alliance. Your Byakugan will be essential for surveillance and ensuring our safety," Shikamaru replied.
Neji deactivated his Byakugan, walking over to Shikamaru. "I'll join you. It's important to strengthen our alliances, especially now. I trust you have a plan?"
Shikamaru nodded. "I do. We need to be prepared for any potential threats, and your abilities will help us stay one step ahead."
Neji nodded in agreement. "Understood. I'll do whatever it takes to ensure the mission's success."
Shikamaru felt a sense of relief. "Thanks, Neji. Your precision and vigilance will be crucial."
His final stop was at the training area where Lee was pushing himself to his limits. The green-clad ninja was in the midst of his rigorous regimen, sweat pouring down his face.
"Lee, I have a mission, and I need your energy and strength," Shikamaru said, approaching him.
Lee's eyes lit up with enthusiasm. "A mission? I'm ready! What do you need from me, Shikamaru-san?"
"We're heading to Suna to secure an alliance. Your determination and combat skills will be crucial," Shikamaru explained.
Lee gave a thumbs-up, his smile bright. "Count me in! I won't let you down!"
Shikamaru chuckled at Lee's enthusiasm. "I know you won't. Your energy will be a big help, especially if things get tough."
Lee's eyes sparkled with determination. "We'll make this mission a success! For Konoha!"
With his team assembled, Shikamaru felt a mixture of anticipation and apprehension. They met at the village gates the next morning, ready to embark on their journey. The air was thick with the promise of what lay ahead. The group traveled in relative silence, each lost in their own thoughts.
Shikamaru knew they lacked chemistry as a unit, but he hoped their individual strengths would make up for it.
As they moved through the dense forest, Shikamaru's mind was constantly on alert. "Neji, activate your Byakugan. I don't want any surprises," he ordered.
Neji complied, his eyes glowing as he scanned the area. "Everything seems clear for now," he reported.
Shikamaru nodded. "Good. Let's keep moving."
Ino walked beside Shikamaru, her mind racing with thoughts of their mission. "Shikamaru, what do you think we'll face in Suna?"
Shikamaru shrugged slightly. "I'm not sure, but we need to be prepared for anything. Suna's in a fragile state, and they might not be too happy to see us."
Lee, always the optimist, tried to lighten the mood. "We'll show them what Konoha is made of! With our combined strength, we'll succeed!"
Neji's expression remained serious. "Confidence is important, Lee, but we must remain vigilant. The situation could turn dangerous at any moment."
Shikamaru appreciated Neji's caution. "Exactly. Neji, you'll be our eyes. Ino, you'll handle any information gathering. Lee, you'll be our primary combat force. I'll orchestrate our strategy and ensure we stay on track."
Ino nodded, her resolve firm. "Got it. We'll get this done."
Lee's enthusiasm was infectious. "I will give it my all!"
Neji's calm demeanor provided a steadying influence. "We'll be ready for whatever comes our way."
The journey was long, and as night began to fall, they set up camp. The fire crackled softly, casting flickering shadows around them.
Shikamaru sat silently...
And Ino broke that silence. "Do you think we'll face resistance in Suna?"
Shikamaru looked at her, his expression thoughtful. "It's possible. They've been through a lot, and trust won't come easily. But we have to try, it's apart of the mission. It's troublesome, I know. "
Lee's voice was filled with determination. "We'll show them our sincerity and strength. They'll see that we are there to help."
Neji nodded, his gaze steady. "Trust is earned through actions, not words."
Shikamaru appreciated their input, knowing that each of them brought a unique perspective to the mission. "We'll approach this carefully, with both strength and diplomacy. We can't afford to make any mistakes."
As the fire burned low, the team settled in for the night. As the leader of the mission closed his eyes, the words of his father echoed in his mind. "Strategy is about anticipation. Always think a few steps ahead."
And he would do just that.
Goku stood with Chi-Chi in a clearing, the sun setting behind them, casting a golden glow over the landscape.
It was a perfect setting for training.
"Alright," Goku began, his tone earnest but enthusiastic. "Ki is the life force inside all of us. It's what gives us our strength. You have to feel it deep within and then bring it out."
Chi-Chi nodded, her eyes focused and determined. "I'll try my best, Goku."
Goku smiled, his carefree nature shining through. "I know you will. You're already stronger than most people I know."
Chi-Chi blushed slightly, feeling a warm flutter in her chest at his words. "Thanks, Goku. I've always wanted to be strong... like you."
Goku scratched the back of his head, a bit embarrassed. "I'm not that strong. But I know you can be."
He stepped back, demonstrating the basics. "First, you need to find your center. Close your eyes and breathe. Feel the energy inside you, like a warm light."
Chi-Chi closed her eyes, inhaling deeply. She tried to follow Goku's instructions, focusing on the warmth within her. She felt a faint flicker, a spark.
"Good," Goku said, watching her closely. "Now, imagine that light moving through your body, flowing to your hands."
Chi-Chi furrowed her brow in concentration. She could feel it, the warmth growing stronger, but it was elusive. "It's hard. I can feel it, but it keeps slipping away."
Goku nodded. "It takes time. Don't rush it. Just keep trying."
Minutes turned into hours as Chi-Chi practiced, her frustration growing. "Why can't I do it?!" she exclaimed, her voice tinged with irritation.
Goku approached her, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You're doing great, Chi-Chi. It's not easy. I struggled at first too."
Chi-Chi looked up at him, her eyes softening. "Really?"
"Yeah," Goku admitted. "But you're a prodigy, way more than me. I can see it in you. Just don't give up."
Encouraged by his words, Chi-Chi took a deep breath and closed her eyes again. She focused harder, imagining the light within her, the warmth spreading through her body. Slowly, she began to feel it more clearly, like a gentle pulse.
Goku watched in amazement as a faint yellow glow started to form around Chi-Chi's hands. "You're doing it, Chi-Chi!"
Chi-Chi opened her eyes, astonished to see the luminescent energy in her palms. "I... I did it!"
Goku grinned, his excitement palpable. "I knew you could!"
Chi-Chi stared at the glowing energy, her heart racing. "This is incredible. It feels... powerful."
Goku nodded. "That's your ki. With practice, you can control it, make it stronger."
Chi-Chi's admiration for Goku grew with each passing moment. He had such faith in her, such unwavering belief. "Thank you, Goku. For teaching me."
Goku shrugged, his usual nonchalance returning. "It's no biggie. You're really amazing, Chi-Chi."
Chi-Chi couldn't help but smile. "I think you're amazing too. You're so strong and kind. I've never met anyone like you."
Goku looked at her, a bit confused but touched. "Thanks. I like you too."
"Goku," she said softly, "I want to keep training with you."
Goku nodded, his eyes shining with sincerity. "Bet we'll train together then. We'll get stronger, both of us."
Chi-Chi felt a surge of warmth, not just from the ki in her hands but from Goku's words.
As they trekked along the desert, the group felt the oppressive heat of the blazing sun beating down upon them. The arid landscape stretched endlessly, with sand dunes rising and falling like waves frozen in time. They were close to the valley that hid the village of Suna, the air shimmering with heat waves as the sun reached its zenith. It was the middle of Day 3, and fatigue was beginning to set in.
"Keep an eye out," Shikamaru muttered, his eyes scanning the horizon. "We're almost there, but we can't afford to be careless."
Neji's Byakugan was activated, his pale eyes glowing with intensity. Suddenly, he tensed. "Two beings nearby," he alerted the group.
The four of them immediately stopped, falling into a diamond formation with Shikamaru at the point.
WHOOOSH!
"Above!" Neji shouted, just as a shadow loomed over them.
The team scattered, narrowly avoiding a blow that left a massive crater in the ground. Sand flew everywhere, the impact shaking the dunes beneath their feet. They quickly regrouped, their eyes locking onto the source of the attack.
Standing before them was a man with long, wild hair and a scar on his cheek. His appearance had an odd resemblance to Kiba, stirring a mix of emotions within the group. Beside him floated a small, blue cat-like creature.
Shikamaru stepped forward, his expression serious. "Who are you? State your identity."
The man grinned, seemingly unfazed by their defensive stance. "Name's Yamcha," he said, his voice confident. "And this here is my partner, Puar."
"What do you want?" Shikamaru demanded, his mind racing with possible scenarios.
Yamcha crossed his arms, a smirk playing on his lips. "I want your resources. All of them. With what you have, I can become even more rich."
Ino scoffed, her eyes narrowing. "Why don't you try working a job like a real man?"
Yamcha's confident demeanor faltered slightly as he took in Ino's beauty. He quickly shook his head, trying to focus. She had to be 13, maybe 14 at the oldest. How could someone so young be such a threat to his psyche? But the way she carried herself, the fire in her eyes—it made him uneasy.
She was more attractive than her age belied.
Ino noticed his hesitation and smirked. "What's the matter? Scared of a little girl?" She beckoned him forward with a taunting gesture. "Come and get me. We know you want to."
Lee stepped closer to Ino, his voice low and cautious. "Ino-chan, we don't know what he's capable of. Be careful."
Shikamaru nodded in agreement. "Lee's right. We need to assess the situation before jumping in."
But Ino was determined. She had spent the last six months training intensely with Lee and Gai, pushing herself to new limits. She wanted to test her skills in a real fight, to see how far she had come.
She stepped forward, her gaze locked on Yamcha. "I've got this."
Yamcha's eyes widened in surprise, then narrowed with determination. He couldn't let himself be intimidated by a child. "You've got guts, I'll give you that," he said, unsheathing his scimitar with a flourish.
Ino's movements were fluid as she slipped into a taijutsu stance reminiscent of Lee and Gai's. Her body was coiled with energy, ready to spring into action at any moment. The air around them seemed to crackle with anticipation.
Neji kept his Byakugan activated, scanning the surroundings for any additional threats. "I see no other enemies nearby. It's just the two of them."
Lee's eyes never left Yamcha, his muscles tensed and ready to support Ino if needed. "We're with you, Ino-chan. Please don't take unnecessary risks."
Shikamaru's mind raced, analyzing their opponent. Yamcha had a wild, unpredictable aura, but there was a hint of overconfidence that could be exploited. "Ino, if you see an opening, take it. But don't get reckless."
Ino gave a slight nod, her eyes never leaving Yamcha. "Don't worry. I know what I'm doing."
Yamcha's grip tightened on his scimitar, his eyes locked on Ino. "You think you can take me on? Let's see what you've got."
The desert around them was eerily silent. The sun beat down relentlessly, the heat adding to the intensity of the moment. Each member of the team was ready, their senses heightened, their focus razor-sharp.
Ino took a deep breath, her mind clear and focused. This was her chance to prove herself, to show that she could stand with the best of them. She could feel the weight of her teammates trust and the memory of their fallen friends fueling her resolve.
Yamcha's eyes flickered with uncertainty for a moment, but he quickly masked it with a cocky grin. "Come on, little girl. Show me what you've got."
Ino's smirk widened. "You asked for it."
Yamcha's scimitar gleamed in the harsh sunlight, while Ino's stance remained steady and confident. The clash between them was imminent, and the outcome would set the tone for the rest of their mission.
Shikamaru sighed in frustration, realizing that the situation required a change in plans. "Neji, take care of the Puar guy," he ordered.
Neji nodded, his Byakugan already activated. "Understood."
Yamcha's expression shifted from smug to determined. "I'll show you why you shouldn't mess with me!" he shouted, charging at Ino with reckless abandon.
Ino was already in the Gōken taijutsu stance, her body fluid but also hardened and ready. Lee watched from the sidelines, pride swelling within him as he saw the results of their rigorous training. "You've got this, Ino-chan," he muttered under his breath, his eyes glued to the unfolding battle.
Yamcha's initial attack was wild and unfocused. He swung his scimitar with brute force, but Ino moved like a dancer, her steps precise and graceful. She ducked under his swings, sidestepped his thrusts, and countered with quick jabs that found their mark.
"Is that all you've got?" Ino taunted, a smirk playing on her lips. "I thought you said you were going to teach me a lesson."
Yamcha growled, frustration evident in his eyes. "You're just a kid! How are you doing this?"
Ino laughed, a light, mocking sound. "Maybe you're not as tough as you think, Yamcha-kun."
She darted in and delivered a powerful kick to his midsection, sending him stumbling back. Yamcha regained his footing, shaking his head in disbelief. "No way… I can't lose to some little girl."
He charged again, this time utilizing his Rōgafūfūken technique, or the Wolf Fang Fist. His movements became a blur of rapid strikes, each one intended to overwhelm his opponent. But Ino was faster, her training with Lee and Gai showing in every movement. She dodged and blocked with ease, her counters striking with crushing precision.
"You're not even a challenge," Ino said, her voice dripping with condescension. "Maybe you should stick to petty thievery."
Yamcha's frustration turned to desperation. He swung his scimitar wildly, but Ino caught his wrist and twisted, forcing him to drop the weapon. She followed up with a series of rapid punches, each one landing with a satisfying THUD.
Ino leaned in close, her breath hot against his ear. "No robberies for you, Yamcha-kun. Maybe you should have stayed home."
With a final, powerful kick, she sent him sprawling to the ground. Yamcha lay there, gasping for breath, utterly defeated. He looked up at Ino with a mixture of fear and awe. "Who… who are you?"
Ino straightened, brushing the sand off her clothes. "I'm Ino Yamanaka, and you just got your ass kicked by a little girl!"
Meanwhile, Neji faced Puar, who had transformed into various shapes in an attempt to confuse and evade him. But the Byakugan saw through every trick, every transformation. "You can't hide from me," he said, his voice calm and steady.
Puar transformed into a large boulder, but Neji's strikes were precise, each blow landing on critical points. The boulder cracked and shattered, and Puar reverted to his original form, clearly shaken.
"Stay still and this will be over quickly," Neji said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Puar, trembling, tried to fly away, but Neji moved with blinding speed. His fingers struck like lightning, hitting pressure points with pinpoint accuracy. The cat's movements became sluggish, his body unable to respond.
Neji's final strike was a palm thrust that sent Puar crashing to the ground, incapacitated. "You were never a threat," he said coldly, standing over the defeated shapeshifter.
Shikamaru watched the scene unfold, his mind analyzing every move. He couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in his team. They had handled the situation flawlessly, each playing their part perfectly.
Lee approached Ino, his eyes wide with admiration. "That was amazing, Ino-chan! Your taijutsu has improved so much."
Ino smiled, a hint of blush on her cheeks. "Thanks, Lee. I couldn't have done it without your help."
As they resumed training, Chi-Chi's progress was steady. She stumbled and struggled, but with Goku's guidance, she improved. Each failure was met with encouragement, each success with genuine joy.
"Remember, it's not just about power," Goku explained. "It's about control. You have to be able to use your ki precisely."
Chi-Chi nodded, her determination unwavering. "I'll get it. I promise."
Hours later, as the moon rose high in the sky, casting a silver light over the clearing, Chi-Chi managed to sustain the glowing energy in her hands without faltering. She looked at Goku, her eyes shining with pride and gratitude.
"I did it Goku!" she said, her voice filled with emotion.
Goku smiled, his pride in her evident. "I knew you could."
Chi-Chi felt a mix of emotions swirling within her—pride, joy, and a growing affection for Goku. He had given her the confidence to believe in herself, to push beyond her limits.
As they stood together under the moonlight, Chi-Chi knew that this was just the beginning. With Goku by her side, she felt ready to face any challenge, to grow stronger and protect those she loved.
"Thank you Goku," she said softly, her voice carrying the weight of her gratitude and burgeoning feelings.
Goku nodded, his expression sincere. "Anytime, Chi-Chi. We're a team now. Just for this part of the story though, do not get attached."
She was definitely placed firmly in the friend-zone. Possibly forever.
Shikamaru stood over their tied-up assailants, Yamcha and Puar who lay bound, looking up at him with wary eyes.
"Give me one good reason why we shouldn't kill you on the spot," the chunin demanded, his voice cold and unyielding.
Yamcha swallowed hard, his mind racing. "I only steal from those with resources because the people who have the resources don't help me and my people in the City of Diablo," he began, desperation creeping into his voice. "It's a poor city in the deserts surrounding Suna, and no one cares to allocate resources or help us."
Shikamaru narrowed his eyes, considering Yamcha's words. "Ino, read his mind. Let's see if he's telling the truth."
Ino nodded and performed the necessary hand seals. "Shintenshin no Jutsu!" Her consciousness entered Yamcha's mind, sifting through his thoughts and memories.
Due to not having formal training in the art of ki in this timeline, Yamcha is still at his most vulnerable state in terms of being susceptible to mental attacks and techniques. Therefore, what doesn't work on more experienced, powerful ki users will effectively work on him.
After a few tense moments, Ino's mind returned to her body. She looked at Shikamaru and nodded. "He's telling the truth. His motives are genuine. He's been doing everything he can to provide for Diablo."
Neji added, "Their body language also suggests they're not lying."
Ino continued, "He's impressive for a bandit, probably the most capable one in the world. He's been evading death from Gaara and others for years while stealing for his city. That's no small feat."
Shikamaru scratched his head, deep in thought. "So what do we do with them? We can't just let them go, but killing them doesn't seem right either." He pondered the idea of bringing them to the village and discussing their situation with the higher-ups to draw attention to their cause.
FFFFFFSSSSSSHHHHH!
Suddenly, Neji's Byakugan flared with urgency. "Incoming! Above!" he shouted.
Reacting instantly, he employed his ultimate defensive technique. "Hakkeshou Kaiten!" he cried, spinning rapidly to create a protective barrier of chakra.
DOOOOOSH!
The blast hit Neji's Kaiten with a deafening roar. The force of the impact was tremendous, sending shockwaves rippling through the sandy ground. The Heavenly Rotation managed to deflect the brunt of the attack, but the sheer power behind it was overwhelming. The genin grunted in pain as the blast's residual energy broke through his defense, striking him with enough force to knock him back.
Shikamaru's eyes widened in shock as he saw Neji collapse, his body smoking from the attack. "Neji!" he shouted, rushing to his side. "Ino, check on him!"
Ino was already moving, her very basic medical skills coming into play. She quickly assessed Neji's injuries, her hands glowing with green healing chakra. She was nowhere near as good as Sakura, but she could still offer some support. "He's hurt, but he'll live. This blast was insanely powerful..."
Shikamaru's mind raced. Who or what could launch such a powerful attack with seemingly no effort? He looked around, scanning the horizon for any sign of the attacker. The desert was eerily silent, the only sound the soft rustling of the wind.
Lee's fists clenched in anger. "Whoever did this will pay," he muttered, his voice low and dangerous.
Yamcha, still tied up, looked at the group with a mix of fear and confusion. "What the hell was that?" he asked, his voice shaking.
Shikamaru ignored him, his focus on the threat at hand. "We need to be ready for anything," he said, his tone firm. "Neji, can you still use your Byakugan?"
Neji groaned, sitting up with Ino's help. "I'll manage," he replied, activating his Byakugan once more. He scanned the area, his eyes wide with intensity.
Shikamaru stood, his mind calculating their next move. "Get ready," he ordered. "We don't know what we're up against, but we need to be prepared for anything."
Ino stood by Neji's side, her hands still glowing with healing chakra. "We can't take any chances. Whoever did this, they're dangerous."
Lee's eyes blazed with determination. "Let's move out. We can't afford to stay here any longer."
PSSSSSHHHHHH!
Hidden behind the sand dunes, something unleashed another blast, the attack tearing through the dunes and kicking up a violent dust storm. The group braced themselves, the sand and debris swirling around them.
"Behind us!" Neji shouted from his position, his Byakugan still activated.
Lee reacted instantly, his eyes sharp with determination. "Shōmon, open!" he declared, unlocking the fourth gate. His body surged with energy, and he moved with blinding speed to intercept the blast.
"Gōken: Konoha Daisenpū!" Lee shouted, using his powerful Leaf Great Whirlwind to deflect the incoming attack, the force of his kick creating a shockwave that successfully dispersed the blast and protected his team.
The dust storm began to settle, and from the swirling clouds, something slowly emerged, a sinister grin on its face. His skin contrasted sharply against the sandy backdrop, and the kanji on his chest clearly visible.
Shikamaru cursed under his breath as he immediately recognized the symbol on the tall, sinewy, dark-grey skinned figure before them. The kanji for "Demon" was prominently displayed, and the leader's mind raced. He had been briefed by Tsunade and his father about what Jiraiya had uncovered: a being named Piccolo Daimao had taken over Kirigakure, using demonic creatures to do his bidding.
"This guy's trouble," he muttered. "He's either after us or Gaara because of his Jinchuriki status. Either way, it's troublesome."
Without Goku there, impeccable teamwork would be their only chance. Shikamaru turned to Neji. "Are you alright?"
Neji, spitting on the ground and shaking off the pain, nodded. "I'm fine. We can't afford to be less than fully engaged."
Shikamaru quickly wrapped an explosive tag around a kunai, using his shadow to fling it high into the sky. The resulting explosion was massive, creating an artificial cloud that hung in the air. It was a distress signal that could be seen for miles in the vast, open desert.
If the two previous blasts hadn't already been enough of an alert in of itself, that is.
Lee and Ino stood ready in nearly identical taijutsu stances, but Shikamaru held up a hand. "Hold your fire for now."
Walking forward to the descending figure, Shikamaru stopped a safe distance away. "Who are you?" he demanded. "Reveal yourself."
The demon grinned, his voice surprisingly smooth and articulate. "What does it matter to you, human? You are bound to die soon."
Shikamaru's eyes narrowed. "You don't know that. Why don't you tell me who you are first?"
The demon, still smiling, replied, "Very well. I am Snare, the greatest among the Sons of Piccolo Daimao."
"Snare, huh?" Shikamaru echoed. "Why attack us?"
Snare's smile widened. "I didn't come for you. I came to kill Yamcha. He was an 'at your leisure' target on the list."
"Why him?" Shikamaru pressed.
"He's a ki user who could be a threat if taught properly," Snare explained. "I'm here to prevent that."
Shikamaru provoked further, "Why not target chakra users too? They can be dangerous, like a harmless snake with a venomous bite."
Snare's eyes glinted with disdain. "Chakra users are irrelevant to my father, and to me. No single chakra user on this planet can contend with me. Not even the bijuu. They are fodder."
Shikamaru felt a bead of sweat roll down his temple. This guy wasn't bluffing; his confidence seemed backed by evidence. Goku, as a ki user, surpassed all of them, and it wasn't even close. But overconfidence could be Snare's undoing. They just needed to survive long enough to exploit his only apparent weakness.
'Alright,' Shikamaru thought. 'Time to stall.'
Snare tilted his head, observing the group's formation. "So, you think stalling will save you?"
Shikamaru smirked, masking his nerves. "You might be strong, but you're overconfident. That'll be your downfall."
Snare laughed, a deep, mocking sound. "Confidence is a byproduct of power. Something you and your friends lack."
Neji, his Byakugan still activated, shifted slightly. "Shikamaru, this guy isn't bluffing. His power is immense."
Lee clenched his fists, his eyes never leaving Snare. "We can't back down. We need to find a way to beat him."
Ino, despite her usual bravado, felt a twinge of fear. "We've faced tough enemies before, we'll get through him too."
Shikamaru's mind raced, analyzing every possible angle. "We need to figure out his weakness. Every enemy has one."
Snare watched them, bemused. He wanted to reveal that he could hear everything due to his super hearing, but neglected to give them any further information. "You really think you can find my weakness? Foolish."
Shikamaru took a deep breath. "Maybe. But we've beaten strong enemies before. We'll find a way."
Snare's grin widened. "Very well. Let's see how long you can entertain me."
Shikamaru gestured subtly to his team. "Neji, be ready. Ino, keep him talking. Lee, prepare to engage if needed."
Neji and Lee nodded. Ino stepped forward, her posture confident. "So, Snare, what's it like being a demon? Do you have any hobbies?"
Snare's eyes flicked to her, amused. "Hobbies? Killing is my hobby."
Ino's smile didn't waver. "You must be pretty lonely then, with a hobby like that."
Snare chuckled. "I have my brothers. We share a common purpose."
"And what's that?" Ino pressed.
"World domination, of course," Snare said casually. "Starting with the elimination of gnats such as you."
Shikamaru's mind was racing. 'He's strong, but he's doesn't give off invincible vibes. We just need to keep him occupied.'
Lee's eyes burned with determination. "Just say the word, Shikamaru."
"Ino," Shikamaru whispered, "try to get into his head. We need to buy more time."
Ino nodded, turning her attention back to Snare. "World domination? Sounds boring. Don't you want to do something more… fulfilling?"
Snare's expression turned slightly curious. "And what would you suggest?"
Ino shrugged, keeping her tone light. "I dunno. Maybe find a hobby that doesn't involve killing."
Snare laughed again. "You amuse me, human. But your attempts to stall are futile."
Shikamaru clenched his fists. "We need a plan. Fast."
Snare's gaze turned back to Shikamaru. "Your little games won't work. Prepare to meet your end."
Shikamaru's heart pounded, but he kept his voice steady. "We'll see about that."
As Snare advanced, Shikamaru's mind worked overtime, seeking any possible strategy. They were outmatched, but they had faced impossible odds before. The lone chunin issued a new command with a sense of urgency. "Neji, untie Yamcha and Puar. We're going to need their help."
Neji hesitated for a split second but then moved swiftly, his Byakugan still activated. "Understood."
As Neji began untying Yamcha and Puar, Snare's voice cut through the tension like a blade. "I'll let you all go if you just sacrifice him to me," he offered, his tone dripping with malevolence.
Common sense screamed at the Nara to take the deal, to save his team by sacrificing the least valuable member. But the influence of Son Goku in his heart wouldn't allow it. "Even if we handed him over, there's no guarantee you'd keep your word," Shikamaru retorted.
Snare shrugged, a sinister smirk playing on his lips. "You're absolutely right. I'm every bit as evil as my brothers and my father."
Yamcha, now free, rubbed his wrists, glancing at Shikamaru. "Thanks, kid," he muttered. "Didn't think you'd stick your neck out for me."
Shikamaru didn't reply, his focus remaining on Snare. The demon's eyes gleamed with sadistic delight. "While your attempt to stall for time was a good one, it's getting boring," Snare said, his voice low and menacing. "Everyone here is going to die, one by one. And I'm going to enjoy every moment of it."
Lee shifted his stance, his fists clenched and ready. "We won't let that happen."
Ino, standing beside him, narrowed her eyes. "You might think you're invincible, but I promise you you're not."
Snare's grin widened. "You really believe that? How amusing."
Shikamaru's mind raced, analyzing their options. "Neji, keep an eye on his movements. We need to find an opening."
Neji nodded, his eyes never leaving Snare. "Got it."
Puar, now free, hovered nervously beside Yamcha. "What's the plan?" he asked, his voice trembling.
Shikamaru glanced at him. "Stay the hell out of the way and be ready to move. This is going to get ugly."
Yamcha, despite his earlier bravado, looked uncertain. "You really think we can take him?"
Shikamaru's jaw tightened. "We don't have a choice."
Snare took a step forward, his presence radiating an oppressive aura. "Let's see how long you can last."
Lee, ever the hothead, couldn't contain his frustration. "We won't let you hurt anyone!"
Snare's laugh was chilling. "Brave words from a boy who doesn't understand true power."
Ino glanced at Shikamaru, her eyes reflecting a mix of determination and fear. "What's the plan, Shikamaru?"
He took a deep breath, his mind racing. "We need to distract him, create openings. Lee, you're on offense. Neji, back him up and look for weak points. Ino, use your jutsu to disrupt him. Maybe dig into this head. Yamcha, Puar, stay close and be ready to help."
Snare's eyes gleamed with amusement. "A plan? How quaint. It won't save you."
Neji, his Byakugan flaring, moved into position. "We'll see about that."
Lee took a step forward, his fists at the ready. "Ready when you are, Shikamaru."
Ino nodded, her hands forming seals. "Let's do this."
Yamcha, despite his fear, unsheathed his scimitar. "I'm with you, kid."
Snare's grin widened as he watched them prepare. "Ready to die? Good."
Shikamaru's mind worked at lightning speed, calculating their chances. He swallowed hard, his mind a whirlwind of strategies and contingencies. They were outmatched, but they had no choice but to fight. The sky above the desert was filled with tension as his mind strategized. Calming himself in the midst of the slowly approaching demon, he noticed something... the artificial cloud from the distress call loomed overhead, casting shadows across the sandy terrain. Just enough of a shadow to be of use.
Bingo! Using the cloud as the source of his shadow, Shikamaru activated his Kage Mane no Jutsu, snaring Snare in place.
The pseudo intellectual demon tried to take another step, but found that he couldn't move. "What the-"
"Kill him now!" The Nara shouted urgently, his voice cutting through the tense silence.
"Kyūmon!" Lee and Ino, reacting with the precision and speed that only intense training could provide, activated the second gates of healing. Lee's eyes blazed with determination as he moved to Snare's left side, his muscles bulging with power. Ino, equally fierce, took the right, their movements synchronized like a deadly dance.
"Let's go!" Lee exclaimed, his voice filled with resolve.
Ino nodded, her eyes focused and fierce. "No mercy!"
With their combined strength, they pinned Snare's arms, immobilizing him. Neji, his Byakugan activated, moved swiftly to Snare's back. His fingers became a blur as he unleashed his Hakke Rokujūyon Shō, or the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms technique, striking Snare's pressure points with pinpoint accuracy. Each strike added an internal element of pain to the off-guard Snare, weakening him even further.
Snare's eyes widened in shock and pain as he struggled against the relentless assault. "You... you think this will stop me?"
Neji's expression remained stoic as he continued his attack. "You underestimated us."
Yamcha, seeing the opening, dashed forward with his scimitar. His war cry echoed through the desert as he closed the distance. SHRRCCCHHHHH! With a swift and precise motion, he impaled the still off-guard Snare, the blade sinking deep into his chest, drawing large amounts of dark purple blood.
"This is for being a cocky bastard!" Yamcha roared, his voice filled with fury.
With Snare impaled and weakened, the bandit didn't hesitate. He used his scimitar to cut the demon into sizable pieces, leaving him a dismembered, bloody corpse on the ground. The sand beneath them soaked in dark blood, a grim testament to their acclaimed victory.
Shikamaru, breathing heavily, allowed himself a small grin. His strategy had come together seamlessly, with zero casualties. The experiences with Orochimaru and Kabuto had taught him the importance of having a plan for powerful opponents. In the past two days he had drilled his team on potential executions, formations, and win conditions, and it had paid off.
"Good work, everyone," Shikamaru said, his voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through him. "We did it."
Lee, still breathing heavily from the exertion, nodded. "We made it through, Shikamaru. No one got hurt too badly."
Ino, wiping sweat from her brow, smirked. "Not bad for a bunch of kids, huh?"
Neji, his Byakugan deactivating, simply nodded. "We proved our strength."
Yamcha, panting and covered in Snare's blood, looked at Shikamaru with a mix of respect and relief. "You saved us. You really did."
Shikamaru's grin widened slightly. "It wasn't apart of the plan, but damnit I'll take it."
Leaving Snare's detached remains behind, the Nara turned his attention to Yamcha and Puar. "You two are coming with us. Either that, or you'll be the next to fall."
Yamcha, still reeling from the intensity of the battle, nodded quickly. "Yeah, okay. We're with you."
Puar, hovering nervously beside him, squeaked in agreement. "We'll go. Just... don't leave us behind."
Shikamaru's gaze hardened as he surveyed the horizon. "Let's move out. We need to reach Sunagakure."
As they began their trek towards the hidden village, the desert sun beat down relentlessly. Despite the sweltering heat and the exhaustion from the battle, the group pressed on, their resolve unwavering.
Ino walked beside Shikamaru, her thoughts turning inward. "You know, Shikamaru, I didn't think we could pull that off."
Shikamaru shrugged, his eyes scanning the horizon for any signs of danger. "Neither did I. But we couldn't let him win."
Puar, floating beside Yamcha, looked worried. "Do you think there are more demons like him out there?"
Shikamaru's expression darkened. "It's very possible. Be prepared for anything."
Goku and Chi-Chi stood near a serene stream, the water glistening under the mid-morning sun. The air was fresh and crisp, filled with the scent of pine and the gentle rustle of leaves. Their movements mirrored the natural flow of the water, their bodies moving in perfect harmony with the Kame style katas.
"Remember, Chi-Chi," Goku said, his voice calm but focused, "it's all about the flow. Let your movements be as fluid as the stream."
Chi-Chi nodded, her eyes locked on Goku's. "Got it. Flow like water."
They moved in unison, their bodies swaying and shifting with practiced ease. Each kata was a dance, a blend of power and grace. Chi-Chi's progress was evident; she moved with a newfound confidence, her strikes sharp and her defenses solid.
Goku watched her with a sense of pride. "You're getting really good at this," he remarked, a grin spreading across his face.
Chi-Chi smiled back, a faint blush on her cheeks. "Thanks, Goku. It feels natural, like I was meant to do this."
As they continued their training, the sound of the stream and their rhythmic movements created a peaceful symphony. They finished their katas with a series of powerful strikes, the air humming with energy. Goku and Chi-Chi then walked over to the edge of the stream, sitting down and dipping their feet into the cool water.
"This is nice," Chi-Chi said, sighing contentedly. "I could get used to this."
Goku nodded, staring out at the horizon. "Yeah, it's peaceful here. A good place to train and get stronger."
For a moment, they sat in silence, enjoying the tranquility. Suddenly, Saiyan's expression changed, his eyes narrowing as he sensed something in the distance.
"What's wrong?" Chi-Chi asked, noticing his shift in demeanor.
Goku kept his gaze fixed on the sky. "I sensed a ki, similar to Tambourine and Cymbal's. But... it's gone now. I can feel Ino and Lee's energies in that area."
Chi-Chi glanced at Goku, her curiosity piqued. "Goku," she began, her voice soft but curious, "who are Lee and Ino?"
Goku turned to her, his expression brightening. "Oh, Lee and Ino? They're my friends from Konoha. Lee is super strong and trains really hard, kinda like me. Ino is really strong too and tough. She's great at using her mind and has awesome power too."
Chi-Chi tilted her head, intrigued. "So, they're part of your team?"
Goku nodded enthusiastically. "Sort of but not really! We all used to fight to protect Konoha. They've been through a lot and are getting stronger every day, I can feel it."
Chi-Chi smiled, sensing Goku's pride in his friends. "They sound amazing. It's nice to know you have strong friends by your side."
Goku grinned. "Yeah, they're great. I'm really proud of them."
They shared a quiet moment, the gentle flow of the stream around their feet, feeling a sense of camaraderie and anticipation for the adventures ahead. Chi-Chi's curiosity wasn't satisfied, though, and she probed further.
"Goku," she began again, her voice soft yet inquisitive, "you said you used to fight to protect Konoha. What changed?"
Goku looked back at her, then up at the sky. "I was tired of being a tool, of being a weapon for someone else's gain. I don't wanna limit myself to protecting only my own guys when I can do more than that. I'm happy where I am now. I still care about my friends there, but I'm not tied to the village anymore."
Chi-Chi nodded, but then she remembered noticing a slight shift in his expression when he mentioned Ino. "What's Ino like?" she asked, sensing there was more to his thoughts.
Goku hesitated for a moment, then smiled. "Ino is... she's different. Strong as hell, confident. There's something about her that just stands out."
Chi-Chi raised an eyebrow, sensing the undercurrent in his words. "Different how?"
Goku chuckled, scratching his head. "It's hard to explain. She's... captivating. But don't worry, Chi-Chi. Right now, I'm focused on training and us getting stronger until we find our next opponent."
Chi-Chi smiled, feeling a mix of emotions. She was curious about this Ino girl but also relieved that Goku's dedication remained with her for now. "I get it. We all have people who inspire us."
Goku nodded, appreciating her understanding. "Yeah, exactly. Let's keep practicing. There's a lot ahead of us."
Chi-Chi's smile widened. "Hai, Goku-sensei."
They resumed their training, their movements more synchronized than ever. Goku's teachings had a profound effect on Chi-Chi, her confidence growing with each session. She felt a strong connection to him, not just as a mentor, but as someone she deeply cared for.
"Alright, let's go through the next set of katas," Goku said, getting back into his stance. "Remember, it's not just about strength, but also about precision. Quoted by Master Roshi."
Chi-Chi mirrored his stance, her eyes filled with determination. "I'm ready."
They moved together, their strikes and blocks perfectly timed. Chi-Chi's admiration for Goku deepened, her feelings blossoming into something more.
In any universe, it doesn't take much for Chi-Chi to want to marry Son Goku. Not even in this one.
As they finished their training session, Goku noticed the sun beginning to set, casting a golden hue over the stream. He looked at Chi-Chi, who was catching her breath, her face glowing with exertion and restless energy.
"You did great today," Goku said, offering her a bright smile.
Chi-Chi smiled back, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "Thanks. You're a great teacher."
Goku sat down on a nearby rock, looking thoughtful. "Y'know, I think you're kinda a prodigy. You pick things up pretty fast."
She blushed, feeling a mix of pride and shyness. "You really think so?"
He nodded earnestly. "Yeah. You've got a lot of potential. I can see it."
Chi-Chi felt her heart swell with affection for Goku. His belief in her was unwavering, and it gave her the strength to push herself further. "I'll keep working hard, Goku. I want to be strong, just like you."
Goku grinned, his carefree nature shining through. "You're already strong. And believe me, you'll only get stronger."
If she stayed alive, that was. The toll booth of death was nowhere near done collecting taxes.
