Cole POV: It will never be easy to see any of us injured. Especially with the state that Kai was in. He was bleeding a lot and his right leg was definitely broken. Plus the cut on his head could mean that he has a concussion and some of the bruises were already starting to form. He was still unconscious, but he gasped every now and then. I hated everything about this, and my frayed nerves didn't help. Lloyd and Jay were lucky that they had to stay behind and inform Dr. Borg about what was happening. I just wished that we were there. Maybe then this wouldn't have happened, but there's no point in thinking about that now.
I tried to hurry to the Bounty on the roof, but at the same time I was trying to be careful. Nya and Zane helped with doors and ran to get the private elevator. Nya looked extremely worried, but she wasn't talking. Zane seemed to be patient, but I could tell that he was thinking about everything all at once. None of us could be patient right now, but I was impressed that he was keeping calm.
After what seemed like eternity, the elevator doors finally opened to the roof. We rushed as best as we could without hurting Kai more. He still gasped until we got to the med bay. Fortunately, we recently restocked everything, so we shouldn't be missing anything.
"Place him on the bed so I can do a scan." Zane said, getting the computer started.
I nodded and did as he asked. He groaned as I did and Nya was on his other side. She tried to reassure him, even though he was still out. I moved out of the way for Zane and he did his scan. Everyone was quiet, but I felt really nervous. I didn't know what to think.
Zane finished and said, "He doesn't have any internal injuries, only some internal bleeding. However, that can be fixed with an IV."
We both sighed in relief and I asked, "What else is there?"
"Several of his ribs, right leg, and right shoulder are broken. Along with a concussion and his left wrist is fractured. The pole sliced his side and will need stitches, but even though it was deep nothing major was hit. He's going to be confined to bed rest for a while, but he should be fine." he stated.
That was a lot, but at the same time I was relieved. That wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And by the look of it, Nya was also relieved.
Without wasting any more time we got to work. Zane was going to handle his leg and shoulder, while Nya was going to take care of the IV and his head. My job was stitching up his side. I've done them before so I was comfortable doing that. Especially since I didn't know how to take care of his other injuries outside of concussions.
Kai's uniform was already torn and that made it easier to take off. I got a good look at the wound and I flinched at how painful it looked. Like Zane said, it looked deep and he was still bleeding a little. But not too much. Still, I would need to clean it before I could do the stitches. Once I had all of the things I needed I got to work. He started to groan as I cleaned, but he still didn't wake up. I felt bad for him, but Nya had started the painkillers. I'm sure that it was going to hurt when he finally woke up. But right now I need to focus.
I continued to clean and prevent any further bleeding while he still groaned a little. Once the painkillers started he got quieter, but he was still making noises. I thought unconscious people were supposed to be quiet? But I didn't let that distract me and once I was done cleaning I started the stitches. Everything was already cleaned so it didn't take too long to get started. I tried to be as careful as I could be. It took me a while to finish, but I managed.
I bandaged him up and I glanced at the others. Nya finished with his head wound and the other smaller cuts she even got him cleaned up a bit. Zane took care of his shoulder and had his arm in a sling. But he was still taking care of his leg. And then there was his fractured wrist.
"He really is in bad shape." Nya mumbled as I finished wrapping the bandage.
"He'll be okay. He's too stubborn and there's no way he's not going to fight through this." I reassured her and she smiled a little at me.
"We'll monitor his progress and make sure he gets all the care he needs." Zane chimed in as he finally finished with his leg.
"I know, thank you guys. But I can't help being a little worried." she said, glancing at his face.
"You're not the only one." I said, mostly to myself. But she nodded.
Zane moved to take care of his wrist. Nya and I sat on the bed next to him. No one really continued the conversation, we just waited until he was done. I didn't like it, but I also didn't know what to say. Now that Kai was cleaned up a bit his bruises were clearer. He was going to be in so much pain when the painkillers wore off.
Once Zane was done he joined us and said, "Have Lloyd and Jay called yet?"
"Not yet, but given how bad the damage was they could be a while." I said, checking just in case.
Nya was about to say something but she was interrupted by Kai groaning loudly. He started to move around, but groaned again. He opened one of his eyes, but looked like he was in a lot of pain.
She immediately jumped, went over to him, and said, "Kai! Are you okay?"
"I…" He started to say, but he sat up fast and gasped really loud from the pain. Zane and I jumped up immediately. He went to the IV and I helped Nya lay him back down.
"Don't move dude, you need to relax." I said once we got him settled. But he wasn't paying any attention. He was in so much pain to care about what I was saying.
But Zane was already on top of it, injecting the medication. But it wasn't instantly and he was in a lot of pain. However, it seemed like he was trying to stay awake despite that.
"Kai, get some rest. You definitely need it." I said, trying to convince him.
But that didn't work. He just groaned and squeezed Nya's hand. At least he was still stubborn. I'm going to take that as a good sign. But thankfully, Nya stepped in and tried to comfort him.
"Kai, it's okay. We're all okay so get some sleep." she said, and he glanced at her.
Maybe he wanted to argue with her, but his body must have stopped him. He slowly closed his eyes and his breathing eventually even out. And once the meds kicked in he didn't have a pain filled look on his face. That was an improvement that made me feel a whole lot better.
"I hope that he won't be stubborn during his recovery." Zane commented.
But Nya and I shared a knowing look. There's no way that he won't be. That's just who he is.
