Lloyd POV: I woke up honestly feeling so much better. But I didn't risk it with stretching because I knew that would be a bad idea. I sat up and looked over at Kai, who was still asleep. But he had a painful look on his face, which made me immediately go to his side. But he was starting to wake up from it, and once he saw me, he tried to downplay it with a smile. But, of course, I didn't buy it and called for Zane.
Kai tried to reach for my hand and said, "Don't. I'm fine."
"Sure you are." I responded sarcastically. He glared at me, but he started to cough quietly.
Zane quickly came in, and I didn't have to say anything before walking over to his IV. He didn't say anything right away as he injected the pain meds. Kai clearly didn't like it, but he was too busy coughing to care. Fortunately, I knew that he just needed his oxygen mask and helped him adjust it. Once that was done, we waited quietly for Zane to be done and explain. It took him a minute to check everything before eventually turning to us.
"It seems like your broken ribs were agitated and were slightly crushing your lungs. However, nothing was damaged, and we just need to keep an eye on them from now on." He explained. Kai nodded, but I was a little anxious still.
Because that also explains his cough and why it hurt him to talk. But I trust Zane, and he knows what he's doing. Plus, we've been down this road before. I wish we hadn't, but we have, and we know the protocol by now. I just wish that I could help out more.
"Lloyd, are you done brooding?" Kai asked, making me jump a little.
"Uh, what?" I responded, trying not to sound worried.
But Kai just rolled his eyes and said, "Dude, it's all over your face. What is it?"
Why is he so good at seeing right through me? That is so not fair. "Well I was just thinking. There's nothing to worry about."
I tried to laugh it off, but that made my ribs hurt, and I flinched. They both noticed that and gave me a look.
"I'm worried about that." Kai commented as Zane walked over to me.
He made me sit on the bed next to Kai and checked my ribs. They still hurt, but it was already feeling better than the day before. But Zane was just not convinced at all.
Once he finished, he said, "You're going to need a chest brace for now. Let me know in the future if the pain spikes."
"Is that really necessary? I'm pretty sure that I'll be fine." I responded, really not wanting to wear a brace. That'll just look weird.
"And you guys say I'm stubborn." Kai said, smirking at me.
I just glared at him and said, "Because you are stubborn."
Zane smiled at that, and Kai rolled his eyes. At least we were starting to be in a good mood again.

Nya POV: I woke up feeling like crap. Yesterday was definitely one of the worst days yet. Of course, I would be out on a mission with Jay and Cole when Kai would get himself hurt like that. Not only that, but he was going to be out of commission for a while. All while he was in a lot of pain and suffering just because of some criminals' poorly built drill. I looked at it myself, and I knew right off the bat it was faulty. Why they thought it was going to work, I will never know.
Now, they all somehow were cleared from it and only had minor injuries. It's completely unfair, in my opinion, but what can I do? And they all confessed and are in jail now, so at least that was going right. But I had to force myself up and stretch a bit before getting dressed. I wanted to go and check on Kai, but then I looked at the clock. It was five in the morning, and he was definitely still asleep. Though I wasn't going to sleep anytime soon.
I sighed and just walked out to the deck. I can at least go and watch the sunrise. It was something that both Kai and I liked to do on normal days. It was a nice quiet thing for us to do to have some peace in our chaotic lives. And during times when everything was so crazy, we would do it to just calm down and think about nothing. It was a nice, small thing that we both enjoyed. Plus, the sunrise was beautiful to watch.
After the sun was up, I sighed, and someone said to my left, "Room for one more?" It was Jay.
"Of course." I responded, and he smiled.
He stood beside me, and we both looked out. It was going to be a gorgeous day in Ninjago.
After a bit, Jay asked, "Are you doing okay?"
I took a deep breath and said, "Somehow. I'm just a little upset that we weren't there, you know? But he's going to be okay."
"For sure. Zane knows what he's doing, and Lloyd is going to stay and keep an eye on him. Along with the rest of us." He said. Trying to reassure and make me smile. Which did work a little.
"You're right. But I hope that Kai can try and be patient." I said, and he scratched his head.
"Yeah, I don't know about that part. But we can always step in when he's not. I can promise that." He said, pulling me into a side hug.
I know he was right about that. Kai was never the most patient person. That's just not who he is. But for his sake, we're all going to have to watch out for him in the meantime. And we were definitely going to help him.
I just hope that he doesn't do anything reckless.
