Kai POV: Again, I woke up in a numbing pain that made me groan. I slowly opened my eyes and found that I was alone. Completely alone without anyone in the room. And here I thought they would be glued to my side. I groaned and flinched after moving a little. The pain was slowly starting to get worse and I was getting uncomfortable. It also didn't help that the one on my side was also starting to burn. As the Master of Fire, that was a weird feeling and I now get why other people didn't like it.

I tried to move and reach for the button, but that made my side flare and I gasped. Why does it hurt so much all of a sudden? I groaned and panted a little, but I tried again. Hoping that I wasn't reopening anything in the process. Soon though, the door opened and Cole walked in. He was actually relaxed until he saw me. That almost immediately changed when he saw me.

"What's wrong?!" he said, rushing over to me.

It was hard to talk, but I said, "My side."

He just nodded and took a look. I know that he didn't mean it, but the pain flared as he moved everything off to check the wound. I squeezed my eyes shut as it got worse. That's when I heard him gasp a little, and that made me look. I didn't like what I saw.

The wound was bleeding through the bandage, it was slow but still bleeding. That explains why it started hurting so bad. The stitches must have come loose when I was sleeping. Cole didn't waste any time and hit the button to get Zane. Then he started unwrapping it, which earned another groan from me.

"I know it hurts, but just hang in there." He said, trying to reassure me. I could only nod.

Zane soon walked in and, without saying anything, saw what was going on and went to get the stuff. I just closed my eyes and tried to keep quiet as they worked. This is really not the best way to wake up in the morning.

Cole POV: I thought that Kai would be sleeping when I walked into the med bay, not something like this. The pain was so obvious on his face and the bleeding was slow, but bad. However, I felt better when Zane walked in and started to help me. Kai was still in pain as we unwrapped it, and once we finished I figured out why. The stitches were damaged and coming undone, which was causing the bleeding and pain. It didn't look infected, but the risk was higher now.

"Cole, can you start cleaning it?" Zane asked, and I nodded.

As gently as I could, I removed the remaining stitches and started disinfecting it first. Kai groaned in pain and I mumbled a sorry as I continued. The bleeding was getting better as I cleaned, but I was starting to worry when it wasn't stopping. Though Zane didn't seem too worried as he started giving Kai his painkillers. I wished Kai would consider the stronger ones, but that wasn't going to happen anytime soon.

Once I got the wound cleaned I worked on new stitches. This time Kai didn't groan, he was just panting quietly and Zane was checking his other injuries while cleaning his head wound. The pain meds were doing their job.

I finished as fast as I could and said, "Better?"

He just nodded and Zane helped him take a drink, which he definitely needed. He took a deep breath and said, "That was awful."

There was some noticeable pain in his voice, but I ignored it and responded. "I'm sure it was. So let's hope it doesn't happen again."

"Please." He tried to laugh, but he flinched and quietly groaned.

Zane stepped in and said, "Is there anything else that is bothering you?"

"Everything just… hurts." he said, and coughed a little after.

Zane nodded and we helped him get more comfortable, and once we finished he was out like a light. At least he wasn't in pain for now.

Zane turned to me and said, "There wasn't an infection, but he cut it close."

"How did that happen? He shouldn't be able to move that much." I asked, but he just shook his head.

"I'm not entirely sure. Most likely it was just because he accidentally hit the side of the bed. However, I can't say that for sure. I will look into it." he explained. He'll be thorough, so none of us should have to worry about it.

Soon the door opened and Lloyd walked through. He was stiff as he came over, but that was because of his brace so I didn't comment on that.

"What's going on? Is something wrong?" he asked, after seeing something was clearly wrong.

"We had a scare, but it's taken care of now." Zane tried to reassure him, but that didn't work.

"What?! What happened?!" he said loudly, and I covered his mouth. But Kai didn't wake up and I sighed in relief.

"Dude, be quiet. He needs to rest, but he's going to be fine." I whispered, and he moved my hand. He did nod though.

"So, what happened?" he asked again, this time whispering.

"His side wound reopened and the stitches were damaged. It has already been corrected." Zane explained, and the anxiety was clear on Lloyd's face when he processed the information.

"How did that happen?" he asked, after calming himself down first.

"We are uncertain at the moment, but I'm going to see if I can prevent that in the future." Zane said. That seemed to help with his nerves and he nodded.

I grabbed his shoulder and said, "We should go and let Zane do his thing."

Lloyd clearly wanted to stay, but he eventually left with me. Once I closed the door I asked, "So, how are the ribs?"

"Stiff, but they don't hurt." he responded, but I didn't believe him.

Like Kai, he downplayed whenever he was hurt and usually tried to just take care of it himself. But unlike Kai, Lloyd was really bad at it. It was telling by the way he was walking and how he flinched every now and then. But I wasn't going to push it since he was really worried about Kai right now.

I sighed quietly and said, "He's going to be okay, and once he's better let's have a gaming marathon."

That perked him up a bit and he said, "That sounds fun. Let's do it."

"Alright." I said, and he went off to tell the others. I laughed a little as he did. There were times that he acted like a little kid and it was funny.

But I looked back at the med bay and got worried again. Kai is going to get better, I did believe that. Though I would be lying if I said that it was going to be easy. Kai was in a lot of pain to the point that he wasn't being as stubborn as I thought he was going to be. I never thought I would be wanting that to happen, but I just want him to feel better as fast as he could.

But that was going to be a long process.
