Fandom: Grimm
Pairing: Sean Renard/OC Burkhardt Sister
There are not a lot of fanfics with the soulmate trope for Grimm. This is my first time writing using this trope. This one got away from me quite a bit. It was originally going to be a Sean/Reader, but the character of Lorelei just started developing and before I knew it, there she was. I have a feeling there will be more to come. There will be a large age gap, even though both characters are of age. This will be an ongoing series.
Sean hadn't always been sceptical about soulmates. He knew they existed and had even met people who had found their soulmates. When he was a young boy, he would constantly scan his body, hoping his soulmark to appear. His brother Eric, who had been born with his soulmark, would mock him "Do you really think a bastard would be worthy of a soulmate?" Despite the mocking, he still held hope. Hope that he would receive a soulmate who would love him and accept him as he is.
He reached his teen years and still had not received his mark. He would watch his classmates show off their marks and even witnessed some meet their soulmates. The older he got, the more hope his lost. Sean no longer scanned his body for signs of a mark.
Sean's mother had met her soulmate when she was young. However, he had tragically been killed in a car accident not long after they met. His mother would always assure him that he would receive his mark eventually, that it simply meant his soulmate was a little younger than him. They hadn't been born yet.
Sean finished school, attended college, and made the choice to become a police officer. He had lost all hope of getting a soulmate. By now he had grown into his looks and was aware of the role they could play in attracting women and men. He entered relationships with those who were filling in time as they waited for their own soulmates.
It was not long after he graduated the police academy that he noticed a mark had appeared on the inside of his upper arm. Sean stared at the mark in surprised, barely daring to believe it was actually there. He had been waiting for so long and it was finally there.
Sean was not sure how to feel about its arrival. Its arrival now, meant that he was over 20 years older than his soulmate. By the time his soulmate was eighteen, he would be forty. Would they want him? Would he want them? He couldn't imagine dating a teenager at his present age, let alone as a middle age men.
Instead of being happy about the appearance of his mark, he resented its presence. It was a sign that he would have to continue waiting. That he and his soulmate would face barriers due to the large age gap between them.
Despite his unhappiness, Sean knew that he would cherish his soulmate. He would treat them like a king or queen, no matter their gender. However, to avoid driving himself mad as he waited for them, he continued life as if he had no mark. He covered it up and lived his life. He rose through the ranks of police force, eventually becoming a captain with his own precinct.
Sean became cold and hard, keeping people at a distance. He dated and had shallow relationships, never letting anyone get close. When he found out one of his new detectives had the potential to be a Grimm, he kept a close eye on him. Work, the Grimm and his family kept him busy, not allowing for much time to spend dwelling on his soulmate.
When Marie Kessler arrived in Portland, Sean knew something had to be done and directed Adalind to have her killed before Marie could turn Nick against him and his group. It was after her death that Sean was introduced to Nick's younger sister, who he brought into the precinct when he had to sign some documents, despite being on bereavement leave.
Sean first saw her through the windows of his office. She was leaning against Nick's desk speaking with Hank. When he first saw her, his heart skipped a beat. He thought she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Leaving his office, he approached the trio.
"Burkhardt, you're supposed to be on beravement leave." Sean stated as he reached Nick's desk.
Nick looked up from the paper. "I am captain. I just forgot to sign off on this report." The detective replied.
"It could have waited." Sean replied, trying to avoid staring at the mystery woman.
"I know, but we were in the area, so I figured I might as well get it done." Nick stated.
"And who might this?" Sean asked.
Nick glanced at the young woman. "Oh yeah. This is my baby sister, Lorelei. Lore, this is Captain Sean Renard."
Lorelei put out her hand for Sean to shake. "It's nice to meet you".
Sean took the offered hand, feeling a jolt of electricity shoot down his arm as their hands met. "Likewise." He replied after a moment, pondering if she had felt the electric shock as well. Her expression gave nothing away. "My condolences for your aunts passing."
Lorelei gave him a small smile. "Thank you."
"I didn't realise Burkhardt had a younger sister." Sean stated. "Do you live in Portland?"
"Yes, he does. He doesn't talk about me much, because I am the smarter and better-looking Burkhardt sibling." She said, throwing a teasing grin towards her brother, who uttered out a disgruntled "Hey!". "And I'm in the process of moving to Portland. I finished up with school out east and decided to move to be closer to my big brother. I'm starting at Portland State."
Sean nodded, slightly happy to know she would be staying in Portland. He then wandered if he would be dealing with two Grimms living in his city. Sean knew that both Nick's mother and aunt inherited the Grimm gene. "Well, welcome to Portland.
"Thank you sir."
"And I am done." Nick stated, closing the file he had been working on and stood up. Lorelei turned to look at her brother.
"Brilliant, you can buy me lunch." She said, threading her arm through his.
Sean, who had been about to turn away, did a double take when he noticed it. The mark on her arm. The one in the same position as his own. The one that matched his.
"See you Hank, Captain." Nick said, as he allowed his sister to drag him away from them.
Sean barely replied as he stood in shock. It couldn't be…he must be seeing things. Without another word, he spun around and walked back into his office. Closing the door and lowering the blinds, he dropped into his chair and stared blankly ahead. What are the odds? After all this time waiting, he finally found his soulmate, and she had the potential to be a Grimm, and he had her aunt killed.
The universe must really hate him.
