Welcome to my first FFN story! You can find me on Wattpad with the username "Kur01_Seek_Simp", so you can see other stories I've made.

Charlotte/Charlie (EDIT: and Mercy. SAY NOTHING OF THIS, PLEASE) for my name. Age: Old enough to be using college grade math books. (all you get.) Female, if the name didn't already tell you.

Quick warning, I may be a Baird simp, so this story may (keep in mind, MAY.) involve a non-canon ship with one of my characters... Not that I think you'll all mind, a lot of people do non-canon ships.

I'm also a Dom simp, but unlike a certain bruenette with a mixed skintone and a love for giving her friends tattoos, I actually get that any character I make wouldn't have a chance with him.

This chapter is an introduction of sorts, explaining what happened to the character on E-day and after.

That's good enough; on with the story.

15 years ago, on E-Day.

"What the...," the young teenage girl muttered under her breath, staring out the window through one of the blinds she'd lifted up, surveying the chaos that was the outside world. She'd really, really hoped that after the Pendulum Wars ended six weeks ago, they would have some peace for a while. But as she watched the reptilian-looking creatures with armor that somehow reminded her of the COG's armor, slaughtering humans without so much as a hint of hesitation, she realized that was never going to happen. She glanced down at her little brother, who sat in the corner of the room, trying to make as little noise as possible. Her eyes darted around the room, then back to the window, and her brother again.

The two had been with their mother, but they were separated during the attack by those... things. Her and her younger brother ran until they found a safe place to stay, finally finding a place the creatures wouldn't be able to get into easily. She approached the ten-year-old boy, sitting next to him as her long hair settled softly on the ground.

"You okay, buddy?" she whispered just loud enough for him to hear. Her voice trembled.

"I... I'm worried. Is Mom even okay? She... She looked like she might have been hit by those things... I just-" He stopped his little rant, letting out a long sigh before continuing, "I don't want anything bad to happen to anyone in our family... Dad's out there, probably fighting..." The boy stopped again, looking as though he may break down.

She softly placed her hand on his shoulder, giving him a comforting smile. "Hey, we'll be all right; I promise." But she didn't believe it. She doubted they'd live. She doubted that things would work out.

He looked at her and smiled softly, tears still in his eyes and running down his cheek, though the smile was short lived. She wiped them away with the palm of her hand and helped him to stand up. He stumbled a little.

"Let's go." She said shakily as they walked carefully towards the back door. She made sure there wouldn't be anything behind it or near it before she opened it, carefully stepping out and signaling her brother to follow. She turns to her brother after a moment, signaling him again.

He did, hesitantly. As soon as his foot hit the hard concrete beneath them, he froze. The ground shook violently for a few seconds before coming to a sudden halt.

"What was that?" she whispered, her worry only growing as he stared off into the distance, a terrified look on his face. The shaking returned, intesifying slightly.

"Th.. There's one of those holes back there, Angelina..." The boy said, worry and terror lacing his voice.

She freezed, hesitantly looking behind her. Her eyes darted about again, and she squeezed them close in an attempt to calm herself a little."Shit. Okay, it's okay.. Just remember what dad taught you."

She carefully helped her brother down, watching the hole to make sure nothing came out of it before they could reach safety. Of course, they weren't that lucky. A few of the creatures hopped out, wielding weapons that looked much more powerful than she had thought. She stood quietly, pulling her brother behind her. If she was going out, it wouldn't be without a fight. She carefully pulled out her knife (that she may or may not have snagged from her father, permission be damned). Her grip on the thing was weak, and her hand was shaking. She attempted, again, to calm herself.

They spotted the two almost immediately, shouting something in a foreign language before opening fire.

"Shit, we've got to get out of here!" She shouted, pulling her brother along as she runs as fast as she can, attempting to escape the hailstorm of bullets headed their way. She pulled him behind one of the vehicles that was abandoned by a civilian trying to flee as quickly as possible. She stumbled to the ground, cursing under jer breath.

Her brother was whimpering slightly.

"Shh. Be quiet. I've got a plan."

She stood, grateful that the car is big enough to hide her from the reptilian creatures. She grabs something else from her pocket, a small, empty can (she took it from her home to store things, but that would be useless now), and threw it as hard as she could back towards the building they had been in, watching as it just barely lands inside the building.

A couple of the creatures turn towards the sound, then signal the others to check it out (she assumed). They go to the building and enter.

That should give her enough time to kill the ones left at the hole... If she can get there without them realizing it. She shivered as she thought of what might happen if they did.

"Stay here," She told her little brother before she left.

She thought of her father's words, "Be quiet, and make use of anything to your advantage." Continuing to walk towards the reptilian beings, she added, "Watch your surroundings." Which she certainly did, her eyes watching everything as they looked about.

She made her way around one of the vehichles, watching the backs of her targets and making sure they hadn't noticed her brother. She continued moving.

"Where's dad when you need him, huh?" She thought. She had to deal with something similar before the Pendulum Wars ended. Gorasni had attacked where her and her brother were, and the two barely made it out with their lives. Her father was absent then, as well. Although it was understandable. He was deployed somewhere else. He most definitely would have been there to help if he could. Same with now, but the dear government decided to deploy him somewhere else.

Her grip tightened on her knife as she walked around the hole. "Here goes nothing." She thought, then jabbed the knife into the neck of one of her targets, right where she had seen a fresh injury. It took alot of strength to puncture the tough skin despite the injury, and she thought the knife and her hand might break before it sunk into its neck. It barely got the chance to make noise before it was down, it's body thudded painfully against the ground. She turned to the other one, immediately aware she had given herself away.

"Shit. Shit. shit. shit. shit!" She barely managed to escape the bullets in time. She ran behind the creature and did the same thing she had with the previous one where there was another injury, but this time it was harder to do as the creature tried to free itself from her grip.

"Just stay still, damnit!" She hissed at it. She pushed harder, the blade finally puncturing the skin. Just in time, because its buddies were back. She turned tail and ran back to the vehichle her brother was behind - only to see one of the creatures holding him at gunpoint, the revolver looking gun aimed at his head, ready to execute. She froze a moment.

"No, no, no, no, no!" She shouted, sprinting over as fast as she could.

But it was too late.

A gunshot rang through the air; the headless body of her dear brother fell to the ground. The reptilian creature holstered its pistol.

"No... no..." she said softly, her voice strained.

15 years after E-Day.

The young woman sat up in her bed, sweat running down her face as she glanced around the room frantically.

"It was just a nightmare," she muttered, sighing.

Her brother's death still haunted her. Makes since.. She looks at the clock by her bed.

"0500... Ah what the fuck, I have to get going in an hour, might as well be ready." She muttered to herself, standing and walking to the mirror to look at herself.

Her long, black hair was a mess and her face was still covered in sweat. She looked like shit. She wiped her face clean and looked again. That's a little better.

"My hairs pretty damn long. Maybe I should cut it..." She thought. Her hair really only reminded her of her mother. It hurt to look at, honestly.

So she grabbed a brush and began removing the knots from her messy hair. She then grabbed the scissors off her desk and returned to the mirror, grabbing some of her hair to measure the desired length. After deciding on a medium length, she began cutting it.

A bit later, she places the scissors down and brushed her hair back, examining her work.

"Not bad," She smiled to herself.

She walked to her bed and pulled out a duffel bag, unzipped it, and grabbed her shirt and pants from it.

The shirt was a light green, with short sleeves. The pants had a camouflage pattern on them, and were a dark green with brown accents, along with black.

After she put them on, she returned to the duffel bag and retrieved her armor, carefully putting it on piece by piece.

She glanced at the clock again. It wasn't 0600 yet, so there was still some time to wait. She walked to her bed, sitting on the edge and grabbing a couple of photos from under her pillow. She smiled as she looked at one of her whole family; her eyes tearing up slightly.

"I know I said I never wanted to speak to you again, after everything that happened father. But I was so young back then. I really do miss you." She sighed, leaning back. How did she end up here?

Oh, yeah. The Locust Horde.

"God damn monsters. I swear on my fucking life that I will end you all, even if it's the last thing I do." She growled, honestly hoping the stupid things could hear her.

.-•-.

It was finally 0600. She stood and went to walk to the door before noticing something: she forgot her knife and her holster.

"Shit…," she swore, turning around to grab the two items from her desk. She put the holster on and slipped the knife into it. With a satisfied "Hmph," she left the room.

Once she had left, she made her way to the outside grounds. She saw her Sargeant, Daniel Jackson, waving her over and jogged up to him.

"Morning, Sarge," She called out when she was close enough to be heard.

"Morning, Private Dunnery. You ready to roll?" He asked, giving her a pat on the shoulder when she reached him.

"All ready, sir." She smiled at him.

"Great, let's go meet the others." He said. He began walking towards the KR that was waiting for them.

"Hey, Sarge? What exactly is this mission about? You said some kind of rescue mission?" She asked him.

He stayed quiet a second before responding, "Yeah, some Researcher on a oversea research operation. Locust got the drop on the crew, and the Researcher reported she was the last one standing," he answered. "Ivy Milton, was her name?"

"Milton? Heard the name. The Milton's adopted her when she was young, but no one knows who her biological parents are." Angelina said, a slight curious tone in her voice. "Hope she'll be alive when we get there."

"Hmm," Sargeant Jackson thought for a moment. "Now that I think of it, the name is familiar. She's a top researcher, according to the goverment. But, of course, that's what the goverment says." He had no response to her last sentence.

"Yup. But whatever the case," She looked at him, "we gotta do what we gotta do. I don't care if she's a top researcher or a fuckin' Stranded that doesn't know shit; I'll get her out of there if I have to."

"Well I don't know about a Stranded..." The Sergeant said as he climbed into the helicopter. She got to where she could place both hands on the KR, jumping in behind him, walking to one of the seats and sitting down.

"Hey, Angelina." Her squadmate, Alexandria Sanqueist, said, smiling at her. "You sleep properly this time?"

"Yeah, 'til. a nightmare woke me up at 0500. I'm fine with it though, I wasn't late or anything." She replied, giving a small smile.

"That's good," she said to Angelina before turning to Jackson. "How are you, Sarge?"

"Better then the last few weeks; that's for sure. Damn Boomer fucked me up pretty bad.." Jackson said in a low growl.

The squad had been in a pretty nasty fight with the Locust last week, with half of said squad dying in the battle. A Boomer showed up near the end of it, it's Boomshot already fired by the time they had time to react. The Sergeant had been it the blast radius, and got fucked up by it. Luckily he made a speedy recovery.

"Good to have you back, Sarge," another squadmate, Dylan Sanqueist, said to the Sergeant.

Alexandria and Dylan were siblings, and you had to keep watch on them to make sure they didn't do something stupid. They tended to bicker a lot, which almost got them killed once.

But they were also cautious; that was important for the operations the squad were involved in.

"I'm glad to be back. I get to kick more Locust ass, ya know?" Jackson chuckled, uncharacteristically.

"Hell yeah!" Dylan laughed. Now that was in character.

The chopper began to lift into the air, dust rising as the chopper blades turned.

The squad all started doing their own things, with Alex and Dylan standing and walking to one of the doors.

This would be one hell of a day.

After alot of struggle with FFN, chapter one is officially done! Enjoy, my readers. Chapter two will be uploaded soon!
