Chapter 1
Many pictures were lined up in the house all of them showing Orko at different ages. Some of them were of Orko as a baby. Others showed Orko as a toddler. Some show Orko as young child heading off to school or something else. Some pictures showed Orko with his friends. A few a pictures showed Orko doing magic.
Right now Orko was asleep in bed. The sun started to rise. Then an magic alarm was blaring. Orko reached out from his bed and hit the top of it. Orko was now sitting up in bed. He then got out of bed after throwing off the covers.
Then Orko proceed to get dressed. He began to pack things into his hat and made sure he had his wand. Then there was a knock at the door.
"Orko? Are you up?" Ilyne said.
"Son, I bet you are up," Unzo said.
"Oh I am so up," Orko answered just as he finished straightening his hat.
Then his parents came into the room. "Good to see you are up sweetie," Ilyne said.
"Yes and I see you woke up extra early today," Unzo said.
"Yes the boy is awake right now," Montork said.
"I'll say," Esso said.
Orko's family had moved in with Uncle Montork and Aunt Esso after the five days of wrath since their home was destroyed. They lost everything pretty much and Uncle Montork and Aunt Esso were kind enough to give them a place to stay. Uncle Montork's and Aunt Esso's house was big enough for all six of them. Snoob had all ready left on his sorcerer's quest due to being a week older than Orko.
"I am 16 years old," Orko said. "I am going on my sorcerer's quest today," he said.
"You sure are son," Unzo said.
Orko was having his breakfast at the moment. It was a tradition among the Trollans to give the young wizard who was going on this coming of age trial a big breakfast.
"Eat your breakfast," Ilyne said.
Orko saw how big the breakfast was. "All of this is for me?" Orko asked. "I doubt, I can finish it all," he said.
"Just do what Snoob did, just eat as much as you can," Esso said.
"Yes lad this is very important," Montork said.
"Your uncle is right Orko," Unzo said. "You need all the strength you can must for the quest," he said. "I hoped you remembered to pack," he said.
"I did," Orko said. "I packed my wand, straw bowls, a tarp, and some food that will last me for the first few days," he said.
"Very good," Ilyne said.
"You also better remember money for whenever you go into town for supplies," Montork said. "After all the sorcerer's quest can take up to two years to complete to get to the temple of power," he said.
"I know uncle Montork I have the money safe and sound inside my hat." Orko said. "I wonder which mage symbol I will get," he said. "Will I get a cosmic spiral like dad? Or a service hand like mom? Or paw of nature like aunt Esso? Or a sage starburst like uncle Montork? A diamond pulse? A majesty sun? A warrior bolt? A serenity crescent? A spirit arrow? A balance scale? A prism gem? But I doubt I will get the Oracle ring," he said.
"Well son, it depends on what happens during the quest and what the star tree sees in your heart," Unzo said.
"Your father is right on that on," Ilyne said. "Keep in mind not all sorcerers succeed on their first try on the quest," she said. "It sometimes takes more than one try," she said.
"Your mother is right about that," Montork said. "Now I am going to give you some advice as an uncle, stay away from the unnamed order, they sometimes try to interfere with a young wizard's quest," he said.
"Your uncle is not wrong," Unzo said. "I heard rumors they sometimes kidnap young wizards on a quest and manage to brain wash them into their ways and make them follow them," he said.
"Not to mention some young wizards are foolish enough to try to fight them," Esso said.
"I will make sure to stay away from them," Orko said.
"Very good," Montork said.
They made it to the Crimson council chamber. "Orko son of Unzo and Ilyne, you are now of age, and ready to begin your quest," council member Tuno said. "Where ever the gem sends you, you must find your way through Trolla and make it to the temple of power so the star tree can judge you," he said.
"I am ready," Orko said and got on the gem. "I will make you proud mom, dad, aunt Esso and uncle Montork," he said. Then he flashed away.
"We are already proud son," Unzo said. Unzo was really worried about the forbidden magic order because he was apart of them as a small child with his parents. After how badly he was treated there and the untimely death of his parents he ran away from them and never looked back. He was grateful he managed to avoid their ceremony that would come that would allow the forbidden one to talk to him from where he was banished too. Unzo was hoping to put that far behind him and keep it that way.
Ilyne knew of her husband's past. Montork also knew about it too. As did the defenders of Trolla. They didn't judge him for it because he chose to leave and not be part of it. It reminded them people can change. But Unzo didn't tell anyone else on Trolla because he didn't want to be judged for his past. But he knew his past was not today. Today was very special his boy was now of age and now ready to prove himself.
"I hope he will be okay out there," Ilyne said.
"I am sure he will be fine," Unzo said. "Orko can handle himself," he said.
"True and the boy is a tough cookie like his father," Esso said.
"He sure is," Montork said.
"True but he is also a very kind spirit, like his mother," Unzo said.
"He is both tough and kind," Ilyne said. "I think with that combination will make him into a fine wizard," she said.
"I agree," Unzo said. "Well we have those days where we will need to check on his progress at the temple of power," he said. "It will be some time before he is home," he said.
"That is true," Montork said. "Maybe both him and his cousin Snoob might run into each other during the quest, even though Snoob went on his a week ahead of him," he said.
"That's true," Esso said. "I wonder how much both boys will have grown when we see them arrive at the temple of power," she said.
"Yes it is a thought has crossed my mind," Unzo said. "I have feeling both boys will be more like men we might hardly recognize them." he said.
"Yes maybe," Ilyne said. "But to me Orko will also be my baby," she said. "I can't wait to see him again.
Orko was teleported to a far part of Trolla. "I wonder where they sent me?" Orko said. Then a blast happened right in front of him. "Whoa!" he said. He looked around. "Colorfulcano valley of course of all the places," he muttered. "Well I better get moving if I am going to get out of here by sunset. Last thing I want is to sleep in this place for the night," he said.
So now Orko's import coming of age trial has begun. Let's just see how things turn out.
