"My hands are all stuck together!" Adrien cried, trying to pry off sticky marshmallow goo from his fingers. Marinette giggled, taking a wet wipe from her bag. She wiped Adrien's fingers, grinning. "Someone was impatient to eat their sweet treat, weren't they?"
Adrien blushed, pretending it was from the heat of the fire. "Your the sweetest thing I know, but but marshmallows are a close second!" To prove his point, he slid three more onto his stick. "Really? And what about bakery items?" "Umm…" Adrien stammered.
They had been given special permission to use the park's fire pit, and it was a perfect evening, not to cold, with an almost full moon above them.
"I'm going to cool off for a minute," Marinette stood, brushing graham cracker crumbs from her lap. "Care to join me?" Adrien nodded, laying his stick aside.
The night swallowed the two friends up, and Marinette gazed up at the moon. "What are you thinking?" Adrien asked, his hand curling around his, and Marinette was glad the dark hid her smile. Cat Noir often asked the same thing.
"Do you think…." she begin, "That secrets are like shadows?" "I've never thought about it quite like that, but I suppose so. Only when the secret is revealed to light, it no longer hides in shadows." Marinette bit her lip at the word "revealed."
More and more she was making up her mind to tell Cat her identity, but when would be the right time. Would there ever a right time? I just have to do it, she thought, squaring her shoulders.
"Why do you ask anyway?" Adrien asked, and Marinette jumped, forgetting he was there. "Just curious," she answered lightly.
"Hey, what to check out the antique store downtown tomorrow? I've heard its got awesome Halloween decorations." "Count me in." "Now, let's get back to smores!" Adrien cried.
"Such a sweet tooth," Marinette was glad Adrien gave her hug. "For such a sweet and caring boyfriend." Adrien stroked her hair, the shadows of the heroes flickering and dancing in the light of the flames.
