Welcome one and all to this year's Labor Day Special. This is Part I. I'll be honest, this is just an excuse for me to update all of my active stories without needing much of an occasion. Consider it a sendoff to summer if you wish though. Anyways, enough yammering on, let's get into the update. Last time, Cynder, Superman, Guardian, and Dreamer uncovered the identity of the Element tearing up National City University. And it's the Element of Wind, generating a massive cyclone. Cynder got her team through the winds and into the eye of the storm, where they were just about to claim the Element, General Luthor showed up, prepared to stop them from getting at it. But just as the confrontation was about to begin, we ended the scene. And fair note, we're not starting back there. We've got two other teams to examine. So let's pick up with one of them. Who's next? Read on to discover...
(Our scene resumes in the LuthorCorp R&D department, where Martian Manhunter, Lena Luthor, and Flash are traversing the building, trying to find the Element that made it's way down into these tunnels)
Lena Luthor: So, when your dragon friends said we're tracking an Element, what exactly are we talking about?
Flash: Exactly how it sounds.
Lena Luthor: There's still a lot of ways someone can interpret that.
Martian Manhunter: Spyro and Cynder can control four natural forces a piece. This is one of them.
Lena Luthor: Are we talking fundamental forces like Gravity, Electromagnetism, et cetera?
Flash: More like Earth, Wind, and Fire.
Lena Luthor: Elements of antiquity? Really?
Flash: (Summoning a flame in his hands) Believe me now?
Lena Luthor: (Knowing there's nothing that Flash can do that can simulate that) That's... certainly odd.
Martian Manhunter: In the room with the Martian and the Speedster, the manipulation of natural forces is the strange thing?
Lena Luthor: I'm used to working with the first two! This one's news to me!
Flash: Good to see we can still surprise.
(Lena Luthor is about to remark, but then the lights start to flicker.)
Lena Luthor: That's strange. I just oversaw an inspection of the electrical system yesterday. There were no problems in the grid down here.
Flash: Only one explanation then.
Martian Manhunter: That's the Element we're seeking.
(And just as Martian Manhunter makes that deduction, a bright flash can be seen coming form a room up ahead, revealing a ball of pulsating static. The Element of Electricity.)
Lena Luthor: Apparently Electricity is on that list.
Flash: Good thing I'm here. (Vibrates his hand in the typical speedster fashion) I should be able to insulate us against that.
Martian Manhunter: Let's hope so.
Flash: Stick close to me.
(With that, Flash starts vibrating, generating a static field around himself, Martian Manhunter, and Lena Luthor. Moving pretty close to in unison so nobody gets shocked, the trio makes their way into the room, but behind them, the figure of Malefic J'onnz can be seen, staring back at them.)
Malefic J'onnz: (Staring at them with a sigh) I really don't want to do this to you again, J'onn. But if I'm to finish my plan, I have to.
(Within a few moments, the trio is standing in the same room as the Element of Electricity)
Flash: (Feeling the field he made dissipating) The center of the Elemental sphere appears to be acting like a Faraday Cage. I can't get past this point.
Lena Luthor: Then maybe we can.
Martian Manhunter: It's a risky proposition.
Lena Luthor: There's no reward without a little risk.
(With that, Lena Luthor steps past Flash's static field, and is completely unharmed, seeing the result, Martian Manhunter joins her.)
Martian Manhunter: If what we're observing is correct, then we should just be able to take the Element from here.
Lena Luthor: Then what are we waiting for?
(But just as Lena Luthor's about to get the Element of Electricity, Martian Manhunter stops her)
Martian Manhunter: We're not alone.
(And just as he makes that remark, Malefic J'onnz steps out of the shadows and into the ring around the Element of Electricity)
Malefic J'onnz: I should be thanking you for leading me here, J'onn.
Martian Manhunter: You don't need to do this, Malefic. I saved your counterpart on this world, you can go the same route.
Malefic J'onnz: (Sighs) That's exactly what you said on my world. (Shapeshifts his hands into claws) Which is exactly why I can't let you get past this point.
(And as the standoff begins, our scene ends for today)
This concludes Part I of the Labor Day Special. For Part II, head on over to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. So, another standoff set up and another Element revealed, and this time, it's Electricity. But we also get a little bit into this version of Malefic J'onnz's backstory. So J'onn tried to save Malefic in his original world too, but apparently that didn't happen. And this isn't the first time he's faced J'onn? And above all, what is his plan? More on that as the story gets on. In the meantime, we have one more team to catch up on. So, what are Supergirl and company up to? Tune in next time to find out! Same time, same channel!
