Lorelei ended up making plans to meet up with Katie for coffee on the first day of Spring Break, as both had the day off from work. Lorelei was a little anxious, although she wasn't as attracted to Katie as she was to Sean, she did still like her. She hoped Katie would let her explain herself before she ran for her life. It was the next day when she received a call from Sean, asking if she still wanted to go to the Japanese Gardens together, now that the weather was starting to warm up. Lorelei instantly agreed and they made plans to meet up first Saturday of April. Even if her and Sean had no romantic relationship, she did find herself enjoying the time they spent together. By this point, Lorelei had begun to convince herself there was no way that Sean saw her as anything more than a friend. Lorelei felt disappointed at the thought but was working to accept that.
The Thursday before Spring Break, Nick and Lorelei met up to have some one-on-one sibling time. They had not had much time to hang out, just the two of them. Nick came over to her dorm, they ordered takeout and ate in front of the TV. Nick filled her in on his most recent case, the death of a wesen shop owner and his interactions with the deceased's sister who aided in the investigation, as well as saving Wu's life. "Monroe says she'll be keeping the shop open." He commented. He also filled in her in about teaching Juliette to shoot.
"Have you decided whether or not to tell her about being a Grimm?"
Nick shook his head. "Monroe doesn't think she would be able to handle it. But I am not sure, I mean we handled it ok. So, why wouldn't Juliette?"
Lorelei shrugged. "I'm really not sure, but I will support your decision, no matter what you decide."
Nick smiled at her thankfully. "I appreciate that."
Unlike her day out with Sean, Lorelei knew that her meet up with Katie was a date. The two had made plans to meet up not far from the café where Katie worked. Lorelei arrived early to their meeting spot in order to enjoy the warmer weather, basking in the sun that had started to make an appearance in Portland. She was a little anxious, primarily because she wasn't sure how well Katie would take the news that she was a Grimm. Lorelei had made the decision to be upfront with Katie, before either one of the got too attached. She was also anxious because this was her first date. Lorelei never had much interest dating in the past. Most people who had asked her out were people she herself didn't have an interest in.
Lorelei was pulled out of her thoughts when Katie arrived. "Hey, sorry I'm late." Katie said as she got closer.
Lorelei smiled. "You aren't late, I was just a little early. Enjoying the sun." she assured Katie.
Katie returned the smile, before handing Lorelei one of the drinks she had with her. "Here, one of your favourites. Grande vanilla latte. Definitely one of the more simpler coffee orders I get."
"Thanks." Lorelei said, accepting the coffee. She took a sip, closing her eyes as she enjoyed the much-needed coffee. "Did you go into work on your day off?"
Katie shrugged. "I know we have good coffee. Although my manager did try to get me to work. Someone called in sick. But I was like, nope its my first day off on a weekday. And, I don't have to study. No way was I working." She ended her mini rant with a laugh.
Lorelei nodded in understanding. "So, what does the barista drink?" she asked with a smile.
Katie held up her own cup. "Venti mocha with vanilla, hazelnut and whipped cream."
"Hmm, sounds interesting. I might have to give it a go." Lorelei commented.
Katie held out her cup. "It is sooo good. You can have some, if you want?"
Lorelei barley hesitated, she took the cup and took a sip. "Ok, yeah. That is good." Lorelei agreed, handing the coffee back.
"I know right." Katie said with a wide grin. She took a sip herself, her eyes not leaving Lorelei's as she did so.
Lorelei felt a slight shiver go through her body. There was something hot about Katie's actions. Shaking her head a little, Lorelei asked Katie what the plan was.
Katie shrugged. "I thought we could drink our coffee, maybe go for a walk."
Lorelei gave her a smile. "Sound like a plan."
They started walking, heading in the direction of a nearby park. They conversed, mainly about school and work. Lorelei was trying to work up the nerve to tell Katie that she was a Grimm and knew about wesen. Maybe she should put if off? Katie probably wasn't going to tell her she was a wesen straight away. By the time they reached the park, Lorelei had worked herself into a state. "Katie, there's something I need to tell you." Lorelei said, still trying to find the right words. She could just imagine Katie running from her once she spilled the beans.
Katie looked concerned. "What's wrong? You are looking very serious."
Lorelei stepped back slightly, pacing a little while she wrung her hands nervously. "I want you to know that I am not a threat to you. You have nothing to fear from me."
The other woman looked at her suspiciously. "Why would you be a threat to me?"
"I'm a Grimm." Lorelei blurted out. Katie froze, her expression changing to one of fear. "I swear, I am not the kind to kill wesen, just because. I really like you…and I decided to be honest from the start." The words were just pouring out of her mouth. "If you aren't comfortable being around me, I will leave you alone. I'll even stop coming into the café…and…and…"
Lorelei was still pacing. She couldn't bring herself to look at Katie, expecting her to still be looking at Lorelei in fear, no doubt waiting for the opportunity to run. She suddenly became aware that Katie was speaking to her. Lorelei stopped pacing and looked at her. She was no longer looking fearful, but she did appear to be wary.
"You're really a Grimm?" Katie asked slowly. Lorelei nodded. "My uncle mentioned there was a Grimm in Portland, but I thought that was a man."
Lorelei let out a breath to calm herself down. "That's probably my brother. He is a cop, a detective." She explained. So far, there was no running.
Katie nodded. "Yeah, my uncle mentioned that. Said he seemed different than the Grimm's you hear about."
"Yeah, we are trying to be." Lorelei insisted.
"When did you realise, I was wesen?" Katie asked.
"A few weeks ago. I saw you woge, just for a second." Lorelei answered. "I wasn't going to say anything, but then you gave me your number and I realised I should probably tell you."
Katie nodded again, clearly thinking hard. "And you're not going to chop my head off?"
Lorelei shook her head. "No, I swear."
There were a couple of moments of silence, before Katie chuckled. "So, I'm on a date with a Grimm?"
Lorelei smiled and chuckled as well. "Yeah, you are."
The pair continued their date. Katie explained that she really liked Lorelei and was willing to continue with whatever they were. Lorelei found out that Katie was an eisbiber, and coincidentally, her uncle was the repairman with the big mouth that Nick had interacted with.
"He does have a big mouth, but he also has a big heart. When I first came out, I arrived at his house to find he'd purchased a whole bunch of Pride stuff. Just to show me that he loved and supported me." Katie explained.
"Aww, that sounds sweet." Lorelei said. "When I came out, Nick sent me a little pride flag to hang on my wall."
The rest of the date went well. Katie walked Lorelei back to her dorm and hugged her. They made plans to meet up the next week. Katie promised to introduce Lorelei to some of her friends, all of them eisbibers. "You mentioned you don't have a lot of friends your own age." Katie commented. "I'm sure you'll love them. They are great people."
"Thanks, I look forward to meeting them."
The pair bid farewell, and Lorelei entered her room. She leaned back against the door, a small smile on her face. Katie may not elicit the same response that Sean did, but at least she was in the same league as Lorelei.
