Chapter 3: Front Yard Ballas
Brian and his teammates walked into the locker room, the game was at halftime. He was sweating profusely, he looked at his teammates and his coach. "We got em, we're up by fifteen." Brian told the coach. "I know, we're doing real good." The coach replied. "Go sit down." He told Brian. Brian sat down on the bench, his coach looked at the team. "Okay, we're up. We're gonna stick with what's working. Everyone pass the ball to Johnson." The coach told the team. "Are we absolutely clear on what we're gonna do?" The coach asked them. "Give the ball to Johnson." One of the players replied. "That's right, let's get out there." The coach said. The team got up, they jogged out of the locker room and into the gym. Brian looked up in the stands, Sean, Carl, Kendl, and Beverly were all there seated. He looked up at them and made a fun with his hand and shot at them using his thumb. The second half of the game started and the team started to play.
Brian was standing on the gym floor, he looked up at the captain who was waiting for the ref to toss up the ball. The ball was tossed up, the captain for LS High knocked the ball over to his side, Brian caught it. Brian dribbled the ball down the court, met with swift competition. He dodged the rival team and faked right. He passed the ball to one his his teammates, once the attention was off Brian, he passed the ball back to him. Brian shot a three pointer, that was nothing but net. The crowd cheered, a member of the opposing team grabbed the ball. Brian stole it as fast as the player caught it, he did a slam dunk and made the basket. Brian was on fire in the court, he wasn't too bright, just enough to get by on his school work. But he was a phenom on the court. He kept making baskets until the timer ran out.
The buzzer sounded, Brian was wiping the sweat off himself when his family walked up. "My baby, you did great." Beverly said as she hugged her youngest. "Thanks moms." Brian replied. His two brothers approached him. "Good job, kid." Sean told him. "Yeah, you were like the wind on that court." Carl added in. A man in a suit came up to him, "Mr. Johnson, I am from San Andreas state." The man said as he shook Brian's hand. "Nice to meet you sir." Brian replied. "You played a hell of a game, I looked into your transcripts. You have a mediocre academic record, but your skills on the court are impeccable." The man told Brian. "Thank you sir." Brian replied. "I'm going to give you my number." The scout said as he handed Brian a card. "If you're ever interested in giving us a chance after high school. Call me." The man said before walking away. "Thank you, I sure will." Brian replied. The man left and his brothers looked at him. "The first Johnson boy to go to college. How about that?" Sean said. "C'mon little brother, we need to celebrate." Carl said as he put his arm around Brian's neck and they walked off.
Later that night
Carl and Brian were leaving the bar in Jefferson, they were both severely drunk. Grove Street was only a block away under the overpass, so they decided to hoof it. "Man, you killed em tonight in that game." Carl said with a slur. "I'm gonna be big, I'm going to play for the Panic when I get out of college." Brian said as he took a sip of his beer. "Hey, make sure you sleep that shit off when you get home. Don't want moms kicking both of our asses." Carl said as he took the 40 out of Brian's hand. They were passing the Cluckin Bell and was getting ready to cross the overpass, a red Voodoo was rolling up. Kane was in the front passenger seat, he noticed Carl right away. "Hey, ain't that the fool from the car wash earlier?" The driver asked. "Yeah, that's replied. He got on his phone and made a call, the phone rang before he got an answer. "Hey, this Kane. Get a few boys down here, we're at the Cluckin Bell in East LS." Kane said before hanging up the phone.
Carl noticed the car, he knew the car was full of Ballas. "Brian run for it!" Carl shouted. They immediately started running, Kane noticed this and the car followed them. Carl and Brian scaled the fence and ran through the parking lot. The car plowed right through the chain link fence, they chased Carl and Brian who ducked into an alley. Carl and Brian reached the other side of the alley to find themselves behind some businesses overlooking the freeway. "What now?" Brian asked Carl. "Split up." I'll go this way and get them off you. Go back to the Grove and go to the house." Carl replied. He ran one direction towards the overpass, Brian ran the other direction towards Los Flores.
Brian reached Los Flores, the freeway wasn't full of traffic so he decided to cut across there. He ran across the eight lane road, dodging traffic on the way. The Voodoo full of Ballas found him, Brian ran down the road back towards the overpass. Brian reached the overpass and tried to climb the wall to get off the freeway, he started to slip when someone grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him up. He looked up to see Carl, who was dripping with sweat and had blood on his shirt, "Thanks." He told Carl. "C'mon, by the time they reach here we'll be home." Carl told Brian. They turned around and started to walk, they didn't get far when Carl was met with an uzi to his face. "Got you bitch." Kane told Carl. "What the fuck you want from us?" Carl asked him. "Shut up!" Kane shouted before hitting Carl on the top of the head with the gun.
Carl fell to the ground, Brian ran and superman punched the Balla. "Ah shit!" Kane shouted. He knocked Brian on the ground, before Carl could stand up he had five Ballas kicking him repeatedly. Meanwhile Kane was beating Brian, he looked at his homies who stood Carl to his feet. Carl struggled to get away, but there were too many of them to fight. He couldn't do nothing but watch as Kane beat Brian to a pulp. "Brian!" Carl shouted. "Carl!" Brian shouted back through tears and the blood pooling in his mouth. Kane smiled, before pointing his gun at Brian and executed him. Kane turned around and was about to turn his gun on Carl, when some gunshots caught their attention. Sweet, Smoke, Ryder, and a few other GSF members stood there. Kane and the Ballas ran off, leaving Carl crying over Brian's corpse.
Sean ran to Brian, shouting on the way. "Brian!" He shouted. He knelt down and looked at his baby brother. "Brian." Sweet said as he fought back tears. He looked at Carl, who was in shock and fear over what just happened. Sean picked Carl up and threw him against the wall. "What the fuck happened!?" Sean asked Carl in a manic tone. "Sweet, it wasn't my fault man. We got jumped, we tried to get away. But they caught us." Carl replied. Sean grabbed Carl and started punching him in the face repeatedly, he beat Carl senseless. Smoke and Ryder pulled Sean off Carl, Sean let go, efore collapsing and crying, Carl laid there unconscious as the ambulance came. The coroner took Brian, and the ambulance took Carl to the nearest hospital.
