Season 9 - A - Allergic Reaction
Hailey and Jay were at the precinct, catching up on some missed paperwork from their last case, which rattled the whole unit.
"Guys! I got some cookies!" Kim smiled, walking in with a batch of cookies, which Makayla had made at school.
The unit looked up, intrigued by the cookies. "Hmm, they smell good! What flavor?" Adam asked.
Kim opened the lid, and the smell of freshly baked cookies filled the air. "Salted Caramel and Popcorn!"
Everyone grabbed one, apart from Jay, who was busy finishing her paperwork.
"Yo! Hails! You gonna have one?"
Jay looked up, shaking his head. "No. I'm just gettin' over an upset stomach." He fibbed, not wanting to reveal he had a severe nut allergy.
"You sure, Jay? You never pass on one of Makayla's cookies?"
"Yeah, I'm sure, tell Makayla I love her and I'll try one of her cookies when I'm better?"
Kim looked up, a bit disappointed. "Yeah, I'll tell her."
Jay sensed the disappointment in the officer's voice, but he knew she'd deal with a lot more than worrying about a cookie.
As the day went on, Jay bit into a cookie, but it was one of Makayla's what had been left out.
Oh God.
Jay grabbed his water bottle from his desk, and chugged the last of the water. Which wasn't a lot.
"G-Guys… I-I need help…"
Everyone looked up, and it didn't take them long to rush over.
"Jay? You okay?"
"Jay?"
"Halstead? What's going on?"
The unit's concerned voices filled his ears, but he couldn't answer, all he could do was focus on staying alive. "I-I need… my… Epi…Pen…"
Hailey nodded, running to get the Epi-Pen, Jay had kept under his desk, for emergencies such as now. "I got it!"
"Hurry! He's losing his pulse!" Kevin shouted.
Jay gasped, and fell back onto the floor, landing with a soft thud.
"Dammit. Jay!"
Hailey popped the cap, and jabbed the pen into Jay's pant thigh. "C'mon, Jay, wake up."
After a few minutes, Jay gasped awake, and coughed. What happened?
Jay sat up, and shook his head. "Stay still, Halstead. The ambulance is on its way."
Voight. Jay managed to register his voice, but his mind was still hazy.
Ambulance 61 pulled up, and rushed upstairs. Brett walked over, her equipment bag, constantly bashing into her back. "What's going on?"
"It's Jay, he had an allergic reaction to some of Makayla's cookies." Kim explained, worried for her best friend.
Brett nodded, grabbing the penlight from her pocket. "Follow the light for me, Jay."
Jay squinted at the bright light, but done as he was told. "Hmm, your pupils are equal and reactive. Did you lose any consciousness?"
Jay shrugged, he couldn't even remember what happened, let alone knowing if he had lost consciousness. "I-I think…so?"
Brett nodded at him, and Violet read out her vitals. "BP's a bit high, temperature's elevated."
"So, judging by your symptoms, as well as suffering an allergic reaction, I wanna take you in, so Med can run some tests." Brett explained, packing her things away.
Jay groaned. He didn't wanna go to Med. "I-I don't need to go to Med, I'm good."
Before Brett could intervene, Hailey got to it quicker, "Oh, No! Your going to Med, even if I have to drag your ass there myself,"
Jay sighed, knowing he couldn't argue with Hailey. "Fine! Take me to Med…"
"O-Okay… let me get the stair chair,"
Brett got up, leaving the unit with Jay. "Damn, Hailey's got you wrapped around her finger, Jay." Ruzek commented.
Jay looked up, and coughed, "She's my wife! I can't argue with her!"
Hailey smirked, nudging him. "You can, but you won't."
Everyone giggled, and Brett walked up with the stair chair. "Alright, Jay?"
Jay nodded, and sat on the stair chair, while Violet strapped him up.
"Lookin' good, Halstead." Atwater smirked.
Jay laughed, and Brett leant the chair back, and turned towards the stairs.
"Tell me when you need pickin' up!" Hailey called after.
"Got it!" Jay called back, his head resting back.
XOXO XOXO
"Y'know, we should really go to bed, your head must be pounding, Jay." Hailey commented, walking into the apartment.
Jay handed his gear to her, and placed his keys on the bowl next to the door. "That your detective opinion?"
"No, just looking out for my husband, and my partner."
Jay smirked, collapsing on the couch. "Come on, let's go to bed." Hailey suggested.
"No, I am going to watch the marathon!"
Hailey walked over to the couch, and pulled his trainers off, "Babe, you just had a near death allergy, and I'm tired."
"But, Will checked me out! I'm good!"
Hailey grabbed his hand and pulled him up. "You can show me, you're good in bed."
"I'm not in the mood for sex, Hail."
Hailey laughed, and led him upstairs. "Oh, no. I meant sleeping…"
"But, with you, sleeping doesn't actually mean, sleeping."
Hailey giggled, and walked into the bedroom. "Well, tonight, it does." She confirmed, unbuckling her belt and throwing her old clothes in the laundry basket.
Jay pulled his shirt over his head, and let Hailey unbuckle his belt. "I thought, you weren't in the mood?" Hailey teased.
"Well, I don't fee-."
Hailey cut him off. "Now, you don't feel well? I am shocked, that earlier you wanted to watch the Marathon, now, you're telling me, you don't feel well?"
Jay used his hands in a mocking gesture, and threw a couple of sweatpants on, "I'm not going to argue with you about whatever it is we're arguing about?"
Hailey smiled, and got into bed, "You are okay, right? No nausea? Headaches?"
"No, Hails, you know, I'd tell you if I did,"
Hailey nodded, and slipped her arms around his waist, closing them on his stomach. "I love you, Jay."
"I love you too, Hailey."
