It had been a month since Chloe and Beca saw each other. Ross was loving the dog he got he named her Lady because she looked like a Lady. Beca and Ross haven't seen much of each other in the month because Beca threw herself into work, so she didn't have to think about Chloe.
Beca was just wrapping up the finishing touches on an album she was working on when there was a knock on the door. She didn't even turn her head to see who it was, she just yelled "Come in." Theo was walking through the door and took a seat next to her.
"Beca, you've been logging in some pretty crazy hours this month, is everything alright?" Theo asked concerned with his friend. "Yea, everything is great." Beca replied still not looking at the man. "Well, Ross keeps calling to see if you are free to talk but you keep saying you're busy. I think you should head home and spend some time with your boyfriend." Theo replied.
At the mention of Ross, she felt guilty because she didn't mean to ignore him, she just wanted to focus on work. At least that is what she kept telling herself, but she knew if she saw Ross and his dog it would remind her of Chloe. Then he would ask if she has spoken to Chloe to hear her side of things and Beca didn't want to have that conversation.
Beca knew better though, and she did need to go see Ross. She took a deep breath and said, "Once I finish this little bit I am going to take a few days off." Theo seemed happy with that answer and left her to finish up her work. When the door closed behind Theo Beca sent a text to Ross asking if he wanted to grab dinner. He replied back "Sure, just let me know when and where."
Beca finished the album and told Theo it was ready to be released, as she decided to take two weeks off. Beca knew she was working way too hard and deserved some time off. As she left the studio, she sent a text to Ross asking what she can pick up and head over to his place. He mentioned that Chinese sounded good. Beca knew his order and went to their favorite Chinese Restaurant.
She got to Ross' house in record time. She knocked on the door and when he opened it Lady came bolting towards Beca. "Down Lady. Sorry about that we are still working on having her sit when people come over." Ross said apologetically to Beca. "No worries she's a cute dog so I will let it slide." Beca commented back without missing a beat.
The two enjoyed their food in silence, but Beca knew Ross wanted to discuss what's been going on. "So, you've basically ignored me for the whole month. If I didn't have Lady, I would take it more personally, but I have a feeling this has something to do with Chloe." Ross said not sugar coating anything.
"Damn dude, you just got right for the throat. Uh yea, sorry about being so busy with work. I just really wanted to get my project finished up. Also, this has nothing to do with Chloe." Beca replied trying to sound convincing about it not being about Chloe.
"Interesting, so then I take it you called her and heard her side of the story and finally got your closure?" Ross said continuing the conversation. "Uh, of course I did and I'm all good now." Beca said scratching Lady's head. "So then when I saw Chloe just yesterday for Lady's checkup and she said she still hasn't heard from you I take it she was lying then." Ross knew Beca wasn't going to call Chloe.
Beca hung her head down knowing she didn't need to lie to her boyfriend. "No, she wasn't lying I haven't called her. I honestly don't want to call her. I really don't want to hear what she has to say, and why did you take Lady back to that clinic? Isn't there another Vet that can treat Lady?" Beca said wondering why he went back there.
"Why did you go back to the Vet Chloe works at? Beca asked Ross trying to change the subject. "Other than they know her the best, and she is still skittish towards unknown people I thought I would be better for her. Now quit dodging the subject. Why haven't you called her to get the closure you obviously need to heal." Ross stated firmly.
"Look honestly this isn't any of your business whether I talk to her or not. You may be my boyfriend now, but what happened between us was before you and I got together. So as far as I am aware it's in the past where it needs to be so stop bringing it back up." Beca was raising her voice because Ross wasn't listening.
"You were clearly in love with her, and she broke you Beca. She destroyed you from what you told me and what I saw the other day. You need this closure so it doesn't come back to haunt you, and you can see her again without having a panic attack." Ross matched Beca's volume.
"You know what, I'm not dealing with this, have a good rest of your night." Beca shouted and slammed the door on her way out. The nerve of him telling me what I need to do regarding Chloe. As far as I know she is dead to the world. She thought to herself.
Beca went home and went to the fridge to grab herself a beer. Then she decided that the best way to work out her issues is by music. She sat down and was about to start mixing when her phone went off. She huffed and saw it was a message from Stacie.
[From Stacie]
I'm in town for a week and I demand to see you.
[To Stacie]
Of course. You know where I'm at, and it just so happens I took some time off to think.
Beca missed her best friend and was glad that she was in town. Stacie arrived at Beca's place in an hour and the two friends hung out. "So, what's going on little one?" Stacie asked noticing Beca wasn't her usual snarky self.
"I had a fight with Ross about Chloe." Beca said and at the mention of Chloe's name Stacie perked up more. "I thought Chloe was dead to you, either way tell me all about it." Stacie said in a voice that left no room for arguing.
Beca retold the story of how they ran into Chloe, her reaction, what Beca did for the past month to forget about it, and her fight with Ross. "Well, I know you are going to hate me for saying this, but I agree with Ross to an extent. I think you should face Chloe but not by yourself. I will go with you, and we can do it together.
Beca did not want to argue about this again. She also knew Stacie would either give her the choice to handle this on her own terms or ambush her. Honestly the idea of being ambushed was not something Beca was looking forward to going through. B
"I am not going to see or speak to Chloe." Beca said to her best friend. "Well of course you are because we are best friends and the sooner you get over Chloe the better. I don't think you are fully committed to Ross because of her. So, the sooner you confront this the quicker you can get on with your life." Stacie said offhandedly.
Beca knew Stacie was right and she also knew she wasn't going to win this argument. Unknown to Beca though Stacie was sent here from her girlfriend Aubrey to get the two talking again. Nobody knew that the two were dating not even Chloe, they were keeping it a secret for now.
"Alright fine I'll do it. It's a good thing I love you and you're my best friend or else I wouldn't be doing this." Beca said as she digging for Chloe's phone number. She found it at last and sent a text to the redhead.
[To Chloe
It's Beca. When are you free to chat?
After the message was sent the two friends continued to catch up with their lives and planned the rest of their week out.
