It took less than 24 hours for Leah to regret agreeing to try to join the sorority. Immediately after expressing interest, she was invited to some kind of sisterhood yoga event late Friday afternoon.

Normally, she had nothing against yoga, in fact, she had dedicated quite a bit of time to yoga a few years prior when she was working on controlling her anger issues. This particular yoga session was the exact opposite of relaxing.

The event was held at the sorority house. There weren't enough yoga mats for everyone, so Leah had to make do with a towel. Kat was nowhere to be found, so Leah took a spot next to Sabrina.

Janet led the session. It was immediately clear to Leah that Janet had absolutely no idea what she was doing. She kept glancing down at notes to remember the names of the poses. When in doubt, she instructed everyone to go back to downward dog.

Fifteen minutes into the yoga session, Leah gave up on Janet and started to do more advanced poses. Janet shot her an annoyed glance but didn't interject. Sabrina started following Leah's lead.

"Where's Kat?" Leah whispered. Seth had texted her to tell her he was out with Kat, but he didn't spare any details. Leah thought Kat needed time, but she had a bad feeling that time was not a guarantee.

Sabrina shook her head. "She went over to SAE's house."

"Why?" Leah asked. That was the last place she'd expect.

"Ryan reached out to see if she wanted to help plan a memorial," Sabrina explained. "He's their vice-president. SAE is planning on hosting a campus memorial tomorrow.

"Already?" Leah asked. "That's so soon. Give everyone a chance to process first."

Sabrina shrugged. "Tomorrow would have been his 22nd birthday, so they're pretty set on it."

Leah and Sabrina had abandoned the yoga altogether and were now sitting on the floor, leaning close together to talk. Grace glanced over at them, trying to pretend she wasn't listening.

"How's she doing?" Leah asked.

"I honestly have no idea," Sabrina said. "She was dead silent after Seth left last night. No talking, no crying, nothing… Well, until this morning, that is. When I got back from class, she was screaming at one of Kevin's cousins on the phone."

"Yikes," Leah said.

"Yeah, they hate her," Sabrina continued. "Not sure why. They don't want her at the funeral."

"That's awful," Leah commented.

"I have no idea what's going on. Kat always said he didn't have any family so I don't know who this cousin even is," Sabrina complained.

"I'll talk to Seth this evening, I'll see if she's said anything more to him," Leah promised.

"Awesome, let me know what he says," Sabrina asked. "She's been stuck to him like a cocklebur since last night. I'm trying to be sympathetic, but it's scaring me. She's treating us like we're out to get her for no reason."

"Seth won't let her down. He's a good guy." Leah assured her. Leah was genuinely terrified by Kat's resistance to receiving help.

"Why him?" Sabrina wondered aloud. "Sorry, no offense. I'm sure he's great, but she barely knows him."

Leah shrugged. "Seth seemed to think they bonded during the car rides to and from Portland."

"We've given her plenty of car rides," Sabrina said indignantly.

Leah had to side with Sabrina, the car ride justification seemed flimsy at best. There was something off about the way Kat looked at him. It was like she had decided he was going to be her sole lifeline. Seth didn't have an issue with this, but Leah thought it was a dangerous dynamic.

Leah went back to her own house after the event. Jacob wanted to talk to her, but like Seth, he didn't want to risk their conversation getting intercepted. They moved all the furniture aside and she phased into a wolf in the cramped dining room yet again. She was grateful for the open-concept floorplan as it gave them slightly more room.

Jacob shared what Renesmee had been up to.

She's been with that traitor all day today and yesterday! Jacob lamented. He had tried to keep an eye on her, but whenever she was near the children, the Volturi Guard would confront him.

Leah couldn't control her thoughts. Of course, the little brat was running off with the other bloodsucker.

A low growl rumbled in Jacob's throat. This isn't her fault. He's manipulating her.

Jacob, get your head out of your ass, Leah snarled. She's exactly where she wants to be. Nobody is making her do anything.

We have to stop her, Jacob said. Before it's too late.

Ha! Leah said without humor. Have you met her? If you try to make her do anything, she'll just double down.

We have to do something, Jacob pawed at the ground.

Hey! Knock it off, we have a security deposit on this place! Leah complained.

A guilty thought slipped into Jacob's mind. Turns out, the bloodsuckers hadn't required a security deposit. He and Seth had lied to her because they knew she'd have backed out of the housing arrangement if she'd found out who they were renting from before it was too late.

Damnit Jacob! Leah growled. Give me my money back! I have loans to pay.

Sorry! Jacob promised to return the money.

Do you have anything else to say? Leah said. Because if you're just going to whine about your little vampire, I don't want to hear it.

Jacob couldn't think about anything other than Renesmee.

They heard the slam of a car door outside, followed by Seth and Kat's voices. Jacob and Leah exchanged a panicked look. They phased back and bolted for the stairs. Seth stopped in his tracks outside as he recognized the familiar ripple.

"Wait here," Seth said to Kat. "I'll run these up to my room and we'll go to the sorority house."

"Okay," Kat responded. "Thanks again, for agreeing to take care of this stuff."

"Yeah, of course," Seth assured her. "I told you I would."

As Leah scrambled to put on her clothes, she glanced out the window and saw Seth carrying a box. She swung her door open and met him in the hallway.

"Hey," Leah greeted, "You're back earlier than I expected. Is everything alright?"

Seth shook his head. She could see the fear and stress in his eyes. "I need to talk to you tonight." He handed her the box. "Put this in my room. I have to go." He spun around and left as quickly as he'd arrived.

Leah froze in surprise. She strained her ears as she tried to hear his conversation with Kat outside.

"You know you can trust me," Kat said.

"Yeah, I do. I just don't want to talk about this just yet, okay? Give me a few days to think," Seth said. Leah could hear the tension in his voice. He seemed to be in a hurry to not be alone with her. The conversation faded as he drove away. What the hell had happened today?

She glanced down at the box in her arms. Based on the reek of Ax body spray and marijuana, it had to have been Kevin's. Seth had told her to put it in his room, but he never told her not to open it.

She placed the box on his bed and pulled it open. Inside was a bunch of binders. Leah was confused. Did Kat want Seth to get rid of Kevin's old homework? That seemed like an odd request.

She pulled one out and opened it. The binder was full of newspaper clippings and printouts from online articles. Her hands trembled as she processed what she was seeing.

Missing person reports. Leah flipped through the pages and recognized several of the faces from when she and Jacob had looked up local cases corresponding with the full moon. Kevin had found far more cases than they had. He had notes scribbled in the margins of the pages.

Leah snapped the binder shut and shoved it back in the box. She wasn't sure how much Kat knew, but one thing was abundantly clear: Kevin had been tracking the child of the Moon. Possibly more than one given the large quantity of reports he'd compiled. No wonder Seth was stressed.

"What was that about?" Jacob asked.

She spun around and saw him standing in the doorway. She analyzed the expression on his face. He wasn't suspicious, at least not yet. He was too focused on Nessie to be aware of much else going on.

"Nothing, just some of Kevin's stuff," Leah said. He had a right to know what they'd found… But could she trust him with the information?

His priority was Renesmee and keeping her away from the Volturi. The sooner they got rid of the Child of the Moon, the sooner the Volturi would leave. If he knew she had a lead, he'd run off and deliver it to the Cullens before Seth returned to explain. And he wouldn't think twice about what Kat may or may not know…

No, Leah couldn't tell Jacob the truth about the box, at least not until she had a chance to talk to Seth.

"Weird," Jacob answered. He didn't ask questions though. "I'm going to go over to the Cullen's house. I want to talk to them about… the situation."

"You're not planning on phasing, are you?" Leah said. He'd be stupid to risk getting close to the Volturi while they had an eye out for werewolves.

"No, I'll drive," Jacob said.

"Okay, let me know if you learn anything," Leah said.

"Will do," Jacob promised. As he left, she felt a twinge of guilt for not giving him the same courtesy.

This was different. Jacob wasn't leaving her with any other option. She had no reason to believe Kat knew anything about vampires, but what about the werewolf? Clearly, she knew enough to ask Seth to dispose of incriminating evidence.

What would happen if the Volturi decided Kat was a threat? Seth imprinted on her. The pack had to protect her. But there were only three of them here. Would the Cullens stand with them? The bloodsuckers owed them. If it weren't for the packs, their coven and all their little friends would have been obliterated. Seth was just as friendly with the Cullens as Jacob was. Without a doubt, he'd expect the bloodsuckers to help him. Leah wasn't so sure…

She pulled out her Blackberry phone and called Embry. She asked him to phase so they could speak privately.

Leah had been paying close attention in case Jacob or Seth phase, but neither had. She had her mind to herself when she transformed into a wolf in the living room. Embry joined her thoughts moments later. She could hear the irritation in his thoughts.

Shortly before Leah called, Embry had been arguing with Old Quil over tribal enrollment. Of the first ten wolves in the pack, Embry was the only one who wasn't a member of the tribe. He was enrolled in the Makah Tribe since that was where his mother was from.

For the past few years, he'd been looking to switch to the Quileute tribe, but he was unable to "prove" his ancestry. Thus far, no one had come forward to claim Embry as his son. Sam was the only one who'd agreed to a DNA test, but the results revealed they shared less than one percent of DNA.

What's up? Embry asked, putting his previous conversation in the past.

Leah shared what she'd learned.

Can you tell Collin? Leah asked.

I can, Embry said. But you know what he'll say. His priority is the tribe. He's not going to spare any wolves. You can tell Seth he's welcome to bring her here.

Depending on what she knows, that might be our best option.

Embry left to pass the information along.

She went to her own room and killed time studying while she waited for Seth to return.

Leah was waiting in the living room when Seth returned for the night. She had already phased into a wolf.

"We need to talk—" Seth stopped short when he realized Leah was ahead of him. "Right."

He stripped off his clothes and Leah averted her eyes.

As soon as he phased, Leah was hit with an onslaught of panicked memories.

Kat knows about the Child of the Moon! Seth panicked. I'm trying to dodge the conversation, but she definitely knows!

Slow down, Leah struggled to make sense of his jumbled thoughts. What happened at SAE?

Seth took a deep breath and walked Leah through his afternoon. He recalled how one of Kevin's frat brothers stopped by to speak to Kat.

She didn't want to go to the house alone, so I went with her, Seth explained. I was helping them find pictures for the memorial.

Seth recalled the way Kat buried her face in his shirt as emotion overwhelmed her. Seth scrolled through Kat's social media accounts for her in search of pictures of Kevin from a happier time.

The pictures he found sickened him further. He had trouble believing the smiling boy in the photos was the same twisted man who'd confronted him outside the bar. The further back he scrolled; the happier Kevin was in the photos. Conversely, young Kat seemed more closed off.

Seth wondered what had happened. As Kat found herself, Kevin withered away. Darkness grew in his eyes. Seth scrolled all the way back to their sophomore year of high school. He found a single picture of Kat and Kevin both at their best. They were at summer camp, laughing as if they didn't have a care in the world.

Kat had glared at the happy photo, visceral hatred in her eyes. "We're not using that photo."

Seth hadn't argued with her.

Seth had met Kevin's pledge son, Dylan. He was even more bent out of shape than Kat. He sat on the couch in a daze. He barely said two words the entire time Seth was there.

While he was at the SAE house, Ryan told Seth that they'd lost a member nearly two years prior. Kevin had the photos from the previous memorial in his room, but none of them had found the strength to enter since he passed.

Seth went up to the room to retrieve the photos. When he entered the room, his first impression was that it was an average college dorm. He had an Xbox and a large monitor on one of the desks. The other desk was clearly used for studying. He quickly spotted the photos pinned up behind the desk.

He went over to the desk and was hit with a chilling realization.

That's the guy that disappeared during the full moon, Leah recalled.

Chad was Kevin's pledge dad, Seth explained. According to Ryan, the two of them were inseparable. Kevin hasn't been the same since.

Seth wasn't sure if he believed that. In the photos pinned to Kevin's wall, there was already a darkness budding in Kevin's eyes. Seth had collected the photos that contained Kevin and Chad together. He was getting ready to leave the room, when he glimpsed something out of the corner of his eye. There was a binder on a shelf above the desk. He could faintly make out Chad's name on a paper through the semitransparent binder. Seth pulled the binder off the shelf, wondering if it would have more photos.

Kevin was keeping binders full of missing person reports in his room? Leah asked.

Yeah, I didn't mean to snoop, Seth said. I discovered it completely by accident.

Seth had taken a closer look than Leah had.

The binders go back years, Seth explained. Most aren't local. He labeled the pages somehow. All the local cases had the letter K written on it. Most of the cases from Colorado had an A on them, including one last Friday.

Nobody went missing Friday, Leah said.

Not here, Seth said. But a hiker went missing off a trail outside of Breckenridge. They found his gear torn up. The police are blaming bears.

How'd you end up with the binders? Leah asked, she knew her brother wouldn't have taken them unprompted.

Seth shared the next part of the memory.

"Recognize anyone?" Kat's voice had startled him.

"Sorry!" Seth slammed the binder shut and shoved it back into place. "I was looking for more photos."

Kat had numbly walked into the room. "There won't be anymore. He didn't keep photos of himself."

She'd taken a seat on the bed and curled up into a tight ball. Seth had sat next to her. "What are you doing up here?" he'd asked.

"I don't know," she'd answered. "There's a part of me that felt like I'd find him playing Halo. I can't believe he's gone."

"I'm sorry," Seth had said. He had moved to comfort her.

"It's alright," Kat assured him, though she'd accepted the hug anyway.

"Do you know about this?" he had asked as he held up the binder.

She nodded. "Yeah, he started to get obsessive after he lost Chad. He never told anyone, but if you're worried about it, you can get rid of it. It'd probably be best if we keep those between us."

What were Kat and Kevin doing tracking a Child of the Moon?

I have no idea, Seth fretted. I can't keep dodging the conversation.

He thought about his conversation with her during the car ride to the house, how she'd kept trying to talk about the contents of the binders…

She thinks it's you, Leah realized.

What? Seth was taken aback.

She saw you phase. She thinks that you suspect Kevin was on to you. She was trying to protect you.

I didn't realize, Seth said. He thought back to the conversations he'd been dodging and saw the connection. But why? Why does Kat know about werewolves?

I wonder if she saw what happened to Chad, Leah wondered.

Seth shuddered. I don't think so, she isn't afraid of me.

She wasn't too afraid of Kevin either, Leah retorted, remembering her scars. A sickening thought crept into her mind. What if it was him? What if Kevin was the Child of the Moon?

What? That's crazy, Seth dismissed.

It all makes sense, Leah realized. I bet that's why he didn't want her getting close to anyone else. He didn't want her to talk. Kat saw him kill Chad and he shot her!

There's no way, Seth whined. Why would he be tracking the Child of the Moon if he knows it's him?

Guilty conscience? Leah suggested.

Maybe, he thought. He realized the "K" in Kevin's notes probably stood for his own name.

This makes me sick, Seth said. That means she thinks I'm a killer, too. Why isn't she afraid?

Maybe she has a thing for werewolves, Leah joked.

Seth was not amused. We need to tell the Cullens.

Are you crazy? You'll get Kat killed!

Not out loud, Seth explained. Edward can read our minds.

Yeah, then he'll run off and tell the kid himself.

He wouldn't do that.

Are you sure about that? He wants the Volturi gone as soon as possible, especially now that Renesmee is running off with the nanny. If the Child of the Moon is gone, they have no reason to hang around.

You have a point, Seth realized. We need to keep this from Jacob, too. A wave of revulsion swept through Seth's mind at the mention of Jacob's name. He was still seething from their previous conversation.

Yeah, that's a given, Leah snorted.

What are we going to do? Seth said.

Nothing, Leah said. If Kevin was the Child of the Moon, all we have to do is wait it out. The Volturi will leave when they can't find anything. If we're wrong, the Volturi will take care of it for us and Kat won't be in danger.

You're right, Seth started to relax. We just have to keep this between us for a few weeks.

Are you going to the memorial? Leah asked. She and Seth both let the thoughts of the Child of the Moon disappear from their train of thought, vowing to not think of it again until after the Volturi were gone.

We're going to try, Seth said. He didn't think she'd be able to handle it.

Seth wasn't going to let her go alone.

The moment the sorority house was open to visitors, Seth was on their doorstep. Leah stopped by after her shift at the café. Ian and Holly were already there. Kat sat on the couch, staring straight ahead at a wall.

"We should probably get going," Kat said without emotion as she rose from the couch. The group followed her lead as she headed out the door. Nobody said a word as they crossed campus together.

Seth held Kat's hand tight as they approached the memorial. Leah watched Kat closely. Ian entwined his fingers in hers. Kat froze. The entire group stopped as she did. Her eyes glazed over as she stared out at the quad. The breeze shifted and a piercing scent hit her nose. She turned to follow Kat's gaze. A low growl built in her throat.

The SAE's stood at the front with boxes of tiny candles they were passing out to the people who were starting to attend. Among the attendees were Edward, Bella, and the murderer herself. Leah couldn't think about the specifics, but she knew exactly who to blame.

You have a lot of nerve showing up here, Leah thought. She hurled insults at the mind reader—critiquing his parenting and providing graphic instructions on how to put on a condom. He momentarily met her glare with a grim look in his eye. So he knew he deserved every insult.

Why did they need to throw salt in the wound? What were they trying to accomplish? They should be letting the people who cared about him grieve in peace.

"I can't do this," Kat said.

"You don't have to," Holly said. "We can go back to my place instead."

Kat nodded quickly.

Leah was relieved. She didn't know what exactly Holly had in mind, but anything had to be better than mourning with the murderer.

The answer was alcohol.

Holly's plan was to get drunk while watching Mama Mia.

Leah didn't object, there were definitely worse ways to spend a Saturday afternoon.
