Summary: Spectrum is asked to deal with the hostile GDF
Hostile Allies?
May 2099
Major Green snorted softly to herself as, she looked up from her console in Skybase's command centre, she knew she had interrupted a private moment between Mahogany and Coral, and while she could sympathise with their situation, having lost count of the number of times Adam had been dragged out of bed because of one crisis or another, she did not feel sorry for them.
The main reason for that was, duty to Spectrum was meant to be their first priority, with very few exceptions, and was one of the conditions that a couple had to agree to if they wanted stay in the same unit as each other, they knew all along that there was always going to be the possibility that one or both of them could be needed at a moments notice.
Green was pretty sure, things in International Rescue were similar, so Mahogany had no room to truly complain…
But he had every right to be grumpy, especially considering the reason that he was getting dragged away from his wife.
The GDF forces closest to Bereznik had suddenly started to do bombing runs against the city's of that country, against the orders world president.
Needless to say several GDF flyers had already been shot down, before they even dropped their payloads, because Bereznik had been planning for something like this for years, but some had gotten through...
In predominantly civilian areas…
Green, having worked as the head communications for Skybase, as well as both Colonel White's and then later Colonel Blue's personal assistants during her entire career with Spectrum, didn't have to be told of the pending political nightmare that was about to befall the world government… Civilian casualties, whether their deaths were intentional or not, were unacceptable, even when they were unavoidable, and had the tendency to bring out the sympathisers and the protesters, making their jobs even harder.
Had Colonel Kennedy completely lost his mind?
Colonel Blue and Colonel Scarlet were looking at the reports that were coming in with grim expressions on their faces, even though the World President's office had managed to get though to the GDF forces that hadn't been close enough to Bereznik to complete their bombing runs and order them to cease and desist, and return to their bases, Kennedy was ordering the GDF officers to ignore President Ronalds orders, stating the President was compromised by the enemy…
Which meant they didn't have much time to get in control of the situation before the GDF commanders started following their own intuition and potentially defying the world president.
Knowing this Ronalds put Spectrum command temporarily in charge of the GDF, and ordered Colonel Kennedy's arrest along with any GDF officers that were supporting him.
There was a commotion coming from the direction of the elevator, and Green turned her head to see, Captain's Amber, Copper, Grey, Magenta, Navy, Ochre, Rose and Turquoise step on the bridge to stand next to Captain White, who was meant to be acting as the night watchman with Lieutenant Chartreuse, "Mahogany and Coral not here yet?" Ochre asked, as he took his position.
"I had to use his personal comm to call them separately," Green replied. "In case the baby was asleep, Mahogany will be up shortly."
As if mentioning him had summoned him, Mahogany appeared on the bridge a moment later, and went to stand beside her son.
Colonel Blue, realising his officers were all present cleared his throat, "Sorry to have disturbed all of you at such a late hour," he began. "But as you can see, we have a situation."
"At approximately 20:00 hours, local time, GDF forces stationed near Bereznik, without warning, launched an attack on the city's and towns of the country," Colonel Scarlet informed them. "This is in direct violation of President Ronalds orders, who had ordered the country be only surrounded."
"Jesus Christ," Ochre muttered. "What the fuck was the GDF thinking pulling that kind of crap?"
"Have there been any reports on casualties?" Mahogany added.
Scarlet looked at Mahogany, "We are getting a good idea on what kind of anti-air defences Bereznik has with the number of flyers they have shot down," he answered. "As for Bereznik military and civilian casualties, we are having trouble determining the exact amount of damage Bereznik has sustained."
"The remaining GDF forces have been ordered to return to their bases and to stay there until further notice," Blue continued. "And the Angels have already been sent to the border to make sure the GDF forces stay out of Bereznik for the time being."
"By stay out you mean…" Navy replied. "Holy shit, are you talking about shooting down our own allies?"
"And where is Colonel Kennedy in all this?" Copper added.
"Kennedy is the problem," Blue replied. "He is still ordering his people to attack Bereznik."
The colour officer's exchanged a look, "Could the Mysterons have anything to with this?" Rose asked. "Because you would think that Kennedy would know that doing something like this would be career suicide."
"Anything is possible," Colonel Scarlet answered. "But it could also be Kennedy giving Ronalds one final screw you before he's replaced." He tapped a couple of buttons, and a hologram of a military base appeared above the table, "He is currently holed up at the GDF's headquarters in Germany," he growled. "And the facility is full lockdown, only approved personnel are allowed in or out."
"By approved," Mahogany hissed. "I'm guessing that only people Kennedy wants there are allowed in, not someone from the world government trying to shut him down."
Blue smiled darkly, "There in lies the problem," he commented. "Spectrum has been given orders to arrest Kennedy and his co-conspirators, and take command of the GDF in the short term."
"Somehow I don't think Kennedy is going to let us walk in and take control of his base," Amber muttered. "Let alone arrest him."
"And that's even if we get to the front gate," Turquoise added. "If he sees us coming he liable to shoot first and ask questions later."
"Which means the base's outer defences need to be taken out before we send the bulk of our people in," Blue agreed. "Captain Mahogany, Captain Turquoise, I am ordering the two of you to break into the base and shut down the outer defences, so Colonel Scarlet's taskforce can gain access to the base, after Scarlet's forces have entered the base, you are to assist with the locating and arrest of Colonel Earnest Kennedy and anyone supporting him."
"S.I.G." Mahogany and Turquoise replied, as they started studying a map of the base in front of them.
"I hate to be the one playing devils advocate," Grey commented. "But do we have a Plan B, if it is Mysterons or Mahogany and Turquoise are discovered?"
"Plan B, is we force the issue and do things the hard way," Scarlet replied. "It's not much of a plan, but we would prefer to take the base in mostly one piece, so things can get back to normal quicker," he sighed. "That being said, if you're discovered Mahogany, Turquoise, do what you have to, to get yourselves out of there, if that means literally blowing a hole through their security, do it, we won't be that far behind."
"Let's hope the Mysterons are not the ones behind things," Mahogany muttered. "Otherwise they are going to sense me coming."

Mahogany and Turquoise, wearing borrowed GDF uniforms pulled up to the main gate of the German GDF base in their borrowed GDF supply vehicle.
While assuming the identities of a couple of GDF new hires, wasn't the most subtle or inventive way to break into a locked down base, their identities were very well back stopped thanks to the efforts of Major Green and her team, as well as the real Simmons and Walkley being locked up securely in Spectrum's German headquarters, made it almost certain that they wouldn't be discovered.
Unless Kennedy and/or Johnson were personally checking the identities of people coming into the base, of course…
Mahogany highly doubted Johnson and Kennedy had forgotten who they were - considering Johnson had only just had her arse handed to her by his wife, again, barely a day previous.
Then there was the issue of a Mysteron potentially being on the base…
If that was the case, Turquoise and himself were as good as busted, because if he could sense a Mysteron, they could undoubtedly sense him…
Amazingly nobody really questioned them when they were let through the gate, and escorted to where they could off load their supplies and told where their quarters were…
Actually things were going smoothly, so smoothly in fact, they managed to get to the security centre and shut down the base defences with little to no trouble.
It was almost as if things were going too smoothly…
They were just about to leave, when a wave of nausea came over Mahogany…
"Don't tell me," Turquoise hissed, as Mahogany shoved him under a desk and pulled his weapon from where it was concealed. "Rose was right, about a Mysteron being involved?"
"Well water is wet," Mahogany replied darkly, as he looked around the corner to see Captain Johnson walk into the room…
Or to be more precise, the Mysteron that was controlling the empty shell of Johnson's body…
