This story follows one of my other stories, The las goodbye. Although it will be able to stand on its own. But if you would like to check that one out first please feel free. I hope you are all getting as excited as I am for season 2 of Arcane. I have become obsessed with this relationship at the moment, so I thought I would play around with it again as we wait for November to approach. This story will be rated M for language, violence, and sexual content. It does revolve around the relationship of Caitlyn and Vi, so if you don't like that then move on. I appreciate any feed back, as I hope to put out chapters as quickly as possible, at least every couple of days.

Chapter 1

Vi awoke just as she had the last couple of months, tired and severely hungover. She had been working as an enforcer for the Piltover station for about 8 months. Things started off a bit rocky as she learned what it meant to be an enforcer, especially around cops who hated her. Most of her colleagues knew she was an ex-convict, and those that didn't were made aware of it rather quickly. Rumors filled the department on a daily basis. Vi hated that she always seemed to be the topic of conversation when something better hadn't presented itself. She did her best to ignore the whispers that filled the office every time she walked into work. Lately though Vi wasn't the one mentioned, instead it was her partner, and the one and only Sheriff.

Caitlyn had been appointed sheriff when it was found out that the old sheriff and many of his enforcers had been in cohorts with the undercity's largest drug boss. All of whom had unfortunately passed, most of whom were at the hands of Jinx, who so happened to be Vi's sister. Thankfully the only ones who knew this information were Vi and Caitlyn herself. Vi and Caitlyn had a complicated relationship. Starting as a team working together for the same goals, to friends, to possibly more, until Vi abandoned Caitlyn to save her sister. They eventually found each other again, through a series of random events, where Caitlyn finally talked Vi into working with her as her partner on the force. This was after Vi confessed her feelings to Caitlyn, in which Caitlyn told her she could not give her heart to someone that left her not once but twice. Although Caitlyn truly loved Vi, she couldn't trust Vi with her heart, it was just too painful, and the fear of being left again was always on the back of her mind.

Vi readied herself for yet another grueling day on the job. She hated some things about being an enforcer, but for the most part it wasn't to bad. She finally had some money coming in, she got to bust bad guys, usually with excessive force. Something very frowned upon by her partner. But the thing she liked the best was getting to spend her days with Caitlyn. Unfortunately, lately Caitlyn had seemed to be more and more busy with Sheriff tasks, leaving Vi to be her own partner. It was strange after all the sheriff having a partner. Vi knew she only volunteered for it because no one else would take Vi, but she was ok with that, as long as it meant spending more time with Cait. Something that was becoming less and less.

Vi had seemed to develop somewhat of a routine these days. Wake up, take a long hot shower, eat a protein bar, go to work, come home, drink till she passed out and repeat. She knew it wasn't healthy, but she didn't exactly have any friends other than Caitlyn, who seemed to be more than occupied with her own life these days, and Vi hated being alone. So, she drank to help numb the pain and empty her head of the negative thoughts that consumed it.

This day was already starting bad. As she woke and undressed, she made her way to her shower where she enjoyed washing away the night before. As she turned it on, she noticed the water wasn't getting hot. "Damnit". She didn't exactly live in the nicest place and knew this was a possibility. So, she quickly got dressed, grabbed a gym bag stuffing some clothes in it, and decided to shower at the precinct after work. She would have to call about the hot water another day.

As she walked into the precinct she overheard the latest gossip about their sheriff.

"I heard she went out with another guy last night, that's got to be a record". Was said by one of the older officers who didn't exactly like Caitlyn due to the fact she made sheriff over him. Something that was shared by many of the old timers.

There was a lot of talk the last few months about their sheriff and her dating rituals. Most were saying she was sleeping her way through the upper class of Piltover. Vi tried to ignore these rumors, although part of her knew Caitlyn was dating a lot, she was never going to be part of the office gossip. This information was most of the reasons Vi had been in such a horrible mood lately. She knew every time Caitlyn came into work wearing extra makeup, and having her hair done, that she had a hot date after work. This also meant Caitlyn wouldn't accompany her on patrol on these days. Vi hated everything about it. This is why she would stop by the liquor store on her way home when she saw Caitlyn dressed this way. Vi had always been hopeful that Caitlyn would trust her again, enough to want to date Vi herself, but that wasn't looking good for her at the moment. Either way, Vi vowed to Caitlyn, she would never leave her again, even if it meant them always being just friends.

Vi made her way to her desk, passed the gossip circle, threw her stuff down, and decided to work on her overdue reports. Just when she was getting a good rhythm going, she was called into Caitlyn's office.

"Yes boss". She said with a sigh as she hung up the phone and made her way across the office to the door that read Sheriff Kiramman. She knocked twice, before an elegant voice with a very specific accent replied, "Come in".

"Ah yes Vi, please take a seat, there are a few things I wanted to go over with you today". Vi walked in and sat in the seat across from Caitlyn's desk feeling a little nervous although she had no idea why.

"First I wanted to inquire about your overdue reports".

"Ya I'm working on them now, should have them to you by lunch".

"Yes, well if you could please get them to me on time, you're the only one who seems to fall behind".

"Well maybe if I had a reliable partner". Vi whispered under her breath hoping Caitlyn hadn't fully heard what she had just said.

"Excuse me, what was that"?

"Uh nothing, ill try and do better in the future".

"Very well, also our holiday party is coming up, and as you know you are able to bring a guest, and I was hoping that you would try and bring someone this year, it could be a lot of fun".

Vi felt attacked by this statement. Caitlyn knew she didn't exactly have friends, so what was she trying to pull by suggesting this.

"Ya, I don't think I'll be attending that".

"Vi, I really wish you would. I'm not able to make you, but I think it would help you become closer to the other officers".

"Closer, is this some kind of joke? Going to some holiday party won't help them hate me any less".

"Oh Vi, no one hates you, they just need time to get to know you, you need to meet them halfway".

Vi began to become frustrated at Caitlyn's lack of knowledge when it came to her officers. To think they would trust, or respect Vi ever was a complete waste of time. Maybe it was Vi's fault for not always sharing with Caitlyn just how disrespectful they were to her. How they would leave rude notes in her desk, or the cruelest would be when they left a pair of handcuffs in Vi's desk with the number 516, her old cell number etched into them. Vi always thought it a good idea to hide this from Caitlyn, but now she wasn't so sure.

"I think you give most of the people who work for you more credit than they deserve cupcake".

Caitlyn was now becoming irritated at Vi. She did not like being called out, especially when it came to work.

"Well, I guess we will never know unless you actually try".

"Guess not, is there anything else you would like to talk to me about"?

Caitlyn got up, walked around her desk and stood, looking down at Vi, something she often did to intimidate her subordinates.

"Have those reports to me by noon".

Vi stood up meeting Caitlyn face to face now, unwilling to let herself be intimidated.

"What ever you say boss". Vi said while giving Caitlyn a very toothy smile.

Caitlyn then leaned forward, getting very close to Vi, causing her to feel uncomfortable. She then took a big sniff, stood back before a glare began to form on her face. "Is that alcohol I smell on you"?

"Damnit". Vi thought, really regretting not being able to shower this morning. "No, I mean yes, but I'm not drunk, I was drinking last night, and well I may have spilled some and". But Caitlyn quickly cut her off.

"You're an enforcer of Piltover, and I cannot allow my officers to come to work drunk".

"I'm not drunk I swear it, ill even take a breathalyzer if you don't believe me".

Caitlyn looked closely at Vi, examining her eyes and her movements. "Take a shower before work next time officer, I won't let this slide a second time."

Vi left Caitlyn's office frustrated and angry. "How dare she tell me to shower first, she can't boss me around that much". She said to herself as she tried to sniff herself to make sure she didn't smell as bad as Caitlyn said. After doing this she didn't think it warranted Caitlyn's reaction or was she just becoming so used to the smell of alcohol that she couldn't notice it anymore. Either way she didn't care.

Vi sat down quickly getting back to her paperwork, as she didn't want to see Caitlyn's face if she didn't finish her paperwork by noon. After working hard, she finally finished the last report and she was more than happy as it was only 11:45. She picked up her paperwork, and walked smugly back to Caitlyn's office ready to hand it in. Before she was able to knock on the door she heard a small giggle, followed by a "I can't wait", Vi's stomach turned immediately, as she knocked on Caitlyn's door.

"Come in". Caitlyn was just hanging up her phone, as she looked up.

Vi walked in, set the papers down on Caitlyn's desk, "Here are the reports, sorry they were late", and quickly turned to walk back out.

"Hey Vi wait a second".

Vi stopped hesitantly, as she just wanted to leave and go back to her desk.

"I just wanted to say sorry for earlier, I feel I was a bit harsh".

"No need cupcake, all is good", she said as she made her way back to her desk.

Lunchtime rolled around as many officers left the building, most heading to the food trucks out front. Vi sat at her desk, pulling a protein bad from her bag, ready for what she considered lunch these days. Caitlyn made her way out of her office, watching Vi as she did.

"Hey Vi, I'm just heading to the food truck, you want to join me"?

"No thanks, got my lunch right here".

"That's not lunch, it can barely be considered food. Please come join me, we haven't gotten lunch in a really long time".

"I'm just not feeling it today, Cait, rain check ya". Vi could see the hurt in Caitlyn's eyes as she said this, but being around Caitlyn was becoming harder and harder for Vi. Each day closer to losing the only women she had fallen in love with.

"I'm going to hold you to it". Caitlyn said as she winked at Vi, unable to help feeling like she was losing her friend.
