Chapter 13
"Hey, sorry I was gone for so long, I guess I lost track of time", Caitlyn said as she made her way inside the room.
"It's been hours Cait, you said you were just going to get lunch".
"I know, I just needed some time I guess".
"Well, the Dr came by while you were gone, said everything came back normal. They are working on the paperwork now to get me released".
"Vi that's great", Caitlyn said as she moved in closer.
"You sure this is such a good idea, me staying with you"? Vi said with a shaky voice
"Of course, why wouldn't it be"?
"I don't know, seems like there are a few things that maybe we should talk about, you know before we blow up at each other again".
"Yeah, you're not wrong". Caitlyn said as she sat back thinking about all the things they should be talking about, but both were too afraid to. "Look Vi, I know there are so many things that need to be said, and I know with time they will come out, but for now how about we work on getting you physically healthy". Caitlyn said, doing everything she could to avoid having to talk about how she was actually feeling at the moment.
Caitlyn was usually the one to want to talk, she hated secrets and more than that she hated when things weren't communicated well. But right now, she was lost in a sea of emotions, without a life raft to hold her up. She wasn't sure what wounds would be opened if those emotions were explored, and right now she didn't have the energy to find out.
Vi wanted to protest, to get everything out on the table, but she knew this probably was not the time or place to do that.
Before Vi was able to think about it further the Dr came in with the paperwork to discharge her.
"Alright Vi, here is all the paperwork, from your visit, but before you go, we need to discuss treatment, and how you should be taking care of your body".
The Dr then stood in front of Vi, and an eager Caitlyn, as he began the long list of do's don'ts, and future Drs visits. Vi began to find herself overwhelmed by all the information, as she looked over to see Caitlyn writing everything down.
No alcohol
Change bandages daily
No long baths without aqua bandages
No physical activity
Don't get cast wet
Keep chest sleeve on for one more week
Reduce pain medication. Taking only every 6 hours if necessary
Return Dr visit in one week
Start physical therapy in 2
The list continued as Vi looked at the endless restrictions she was going to encounter for the next few months.
After the Dr finally finished, Ethel entered the room, wheelchair ready, to wheel Vi out the door.
"Ready dear", She said, as she walked over to help Vi into the chair.
"More than ready Ethel, oh and could you do me a huge favor".
"Of course, dear".
"Could you say goodbye to Becky for me, tell her I'm sorry I wasn't able to see her before I left"?
"I will definitely relay the message Miss Vi". Ethel said as she began wheeling Vi towards the elevator and out the front doors.
Caitlyn wasn't far behind, as she was carrying all the extra bags and paperwork she had collected from the room.
"I just need to go grab the car, ill be right back". She said to Vi, and Ethel, as she whipped passed them.
A few moments later, and Ethel was practically picking Vi up and putting her in the passenger seat.
"Well, that wasn't terrifying", Vi said as she buckled herself in.
"I don't know, I thought it was kind of sweet of her". Caitlyn said, as she tried not to chuckle
"Ya, so sweet to be man handled by my 60-year-old nurse, but damn Becky was right, she is good with her hands".
They both laughed as Caitlyn pulled out of the parking lot.
"So, what she we do for dinner"? Caitlyn asked as she noticed the time nearing 5:30.
"Mmm, I'm thinking burgers".
"Probably should stick to healthy don't you think".
"Cait, I'm not allowed alcohol, and I've been living off hospital slop, please can I just have this one"?
Caitlyn looked at Vi with a sympathetic stare. "Sure, I guess it won't kill us".
"Well, if it does, at least I finally be full and satisfied".
Caitlyn pulled up to the quickest burger joint she could find and began ordering. After the clerk handed way too many bags out the window for her liking they were finally on their way to Caitlyn's home.
By the time they arrived, Vi had already finished her burger, shake, and most of the fries in the bag. Caitlyn pulled up as close as possible, before exiting and running over to Vis side to help her out. Getting Vi out of the car and into Caitlyn's bed was harder than either of them anticipated.
"Cait, I really don't need to be sleeping in your bed you know". Vi said while panting.
"Like I'm just going to put you on the couch".
"Don't you have a second bedroom though"?
"Yes, but unless you prefer the floor in my office, this is where you're staying".
"And what about you"?
"I'm more than capable of sleeping on my couch, besides, it's rather comfortable".
"If you say so Cupcake", Vi said as she tried to lay into a comfortable position.
"Hey, any chance I can get some pain meds, that walk really did me in"?
"Sorry, looks like you still have a couple hours before I can give you some"
"Great" Vi said as she laid back.
"Just try and relax ok, I'm going to go get the rest of the stuff out of the car".
"Sure, Vi said", trying not to sound too annoyed.
Vi laid back as she watched Caitlyn exit the room, just now admiring how elegant a room Caitlyn had. She sat upon a very soft queen size bed, that had silk sheets, and a large purple puffy blanket with gold trim that swept across it. To her right was a large black dresser, next to a door, that led into a large walk-in closet. Across from her sat another door, the entrance to the master bath Vi suspected. To the left of that was the door to the rest of the house. And on the left side of the room, sat a vanity, filled with all kinds of makeup and perfumes. Vi stared as she admired the room, finding it was exactly like she had pictured someone like Caitlyn living. She laid back taking in the scent from the pillows, that smelled just like her partner. She then closed her eyes, hoping for a quick nap to hopefully ease some of the pain.
Vi woke up a short time later, in more pain than she was before. She thought about calling out for the Sherriff, but knew Caitlyn would just make her wait. She tossed in the blankets as she tried to take the pressure off her leg with no success. She then tried to distract herself by admiring the things that sat upon Caitlyn's nightstand.
A large book, that had a bookmark halfway through stood out the most. Behind it sat a picture of Caitlyn and her new Fiancé at the holiday party, the night he proposed.
"Ugh", Vi grunted out before tipping the photo forward, placing the couple out of site. 2 prescription bottles sat at the edge of the table. She grabbed them both, hoping one of them held her pain medications.
Caitlyn Kiramman read across both bottles. Vi went to put them back, but curiosity got the better of her as she read the first.
Take once daily for anxiety, followed by the name of the drug Vi couldn't pronounce. What really caught Vi's attention though was the date it was filled. Just one day after getting engaged to her now Fiancé. Vi chuckled slightly to herself. "I guess its not all butterflies and rainbows for the happy couple". She whispered to herself, before placing the bottle back.
The second bottle read Caitlyn Kiramman. Take once at night before bed to aide in sleep. dated the same day Caitlyn had her panic attack.
Vi set the second bottle back, as she realized on a deeper level what her partner might be going through.
Suddenly Vis phone started buzzing as she looked to see new messages coming in.
Cassie "Vi, I'm so glad you're out of the hospital, when can I come see you"?
Cassie "I have something I want to give you". Followed by a kissing face emoji.
Cassie "How long are you going to be staying with the Sherriff"?
"Ugh", Vi said while throwing her phone to the end of the bed.
A short time later, Caitlyn entered the room.
"You still in pain"?
"Yup, and it's only getting worse".
"Well, you still have about an hour before I can give you anything".
"Then why are you here"? Vi said not meaning to come off as angry as she did.
Buzz, buzz, buzz
"Hey Vi, I think your phone is going off". Caitlyn said, trying to ignore the last comment.
"Ya I know, why can't people just talk in person anymore. Sending messages through that stupid device is just too much, I don't like that people can just get ahold of me whenever they want".
"Ah Cassie huh". Caitlyn said, sounding more amused than she meant to.
"I don't exactly see you jumping at the chance to talk to Mr. perfect you know, as a matter of fact weren't you lying to him about a case, just to get out of having lunch with him the other day".
Caitlyn looked at Vi, as shock and disappointment fell across her face. She then left the room, only to return a short time later.
"Take your pants off".
"Whoa Cupcake, Doc said no physical activity, but then again who am I to turn down that kind of offer".
"Just shut up and take your pants off". Caitlyn said as she reached forward, and kindly helped Vi remove the sweatpants she was wearing leaving her in her tight boy shorts.
"Here, put this on your hip" She then handed Vi a soft cloth bag filled with warm beads. "The heat will help with the pain". She said as she grabbed a bottle of lotion off her side table, then climbed up, and positioned herself at the bottom of the bed. She then poured a large amount of lotion onto the lower part of Vis leg and began massaging the muscles.
"What are doing?", Vi asked as she sat back enjoying the soft touch.
"You still have an hour before you can have any pain medicine, but that doesn't mean you have to suffer, and I can't just sit back being your punching bag.
"Sorry I didn't mean to take it out ahhhhh Fuuck".Vi shout out as she couldn't choke out the rest of her sentence while Caitlyn began massaging the inside of her thigh.
"Too hard?" Caitlyn said as she immediately stopped.
"No, no keep going", Vi said as she grabbed a pillow next to her and covered her face with it to avoid Caitlyn seeing how red she was becoming.
Caitlyn continued massaging Vis muscles, doing her best to avoid her hip. Causing the enforcer to relax under the delicate touch of her hands. By the time Caitlyn was done, Vi found herself in a state of euphoria, unable to move or speak, as she laid back admiring Caitlyn's handy work.
"Feel better"? Caitlyn asked as she made her way up the bed positioning herself next to her partner.
Without speaking Vi lifted her left arm, giving a thumbs up, then set her arm back down, as she laid still.
"Good", Caitlyn said as she lifted the pillow from the enforcers face and stared down at her. It's almost time for bed, you want me to help you get ready, then I can give you your pain medicine, hopefully help you sleep good tonight?
Vi sat still, as she admired Caitlyn's features that were staring down upon her. She watched as her bright blue eyes twinkled when the light from above caught them at just the right angle. How her mouth twitched, when she would pronounce certain words with her accent. How her dark navy hair fell over her shoulder and sat draped across her chest.
"Hey, earth to Vi", Caitlyn said motioning to get Vi's attention.
"Oh, ya sorry, maybe just need another minute".
"Alright, I'm going to get myself ready first then ill be back to help you shortly". Caitlyn said as she removed herself from the bed and entered her bathroom.
Vi watched as Caitlyn walked off, admiring just how amazing her partner was.
"Alright, your turn". Caitlyn said as she returned a short time later.
She then helped Vi make her way to the toilet, allowing her privacy, before entering to help her continue with a nighttime routine. After teeth were brushed, she helped Vi back to the bed lying her down under the sheets.
"Sure, you don't want your pants back on". Caitlyn asked, motioning to the pants lying on the floor.
"And miss the opportunity to fully enjoy these silky sheets, no thanks".
"If you say so" Caitlyn said as she brought her a glass of water, and her pain medicine.
After Vi took the medicine, she laid back trying to get comfortable. Caitlyn then made her way to the door, ready to turn off the lights.
"You really going to sleep out there on that couch". Vi said before closing her eyes.
"Unless..Never mind, The couch is more comfortable than it looks" She said as she turned off the light. "I'll just be out here, so don't hesitate to yell for me if you need anything". Caitlyn said as she exited the room, leaving the door open.
"Just you", Vi whispered to herself, as she turned and looked at the empty space next to her.
