Chapter 56 Happy 4th of July

The long drive back to the bunker was tedious as usual. It required them driving for hours listening to good music to pass the time, or just talking and joking with each other and occasional stops for lunch at a diner, bathroom breaks, and later dinner at a restaurant, playing some pool at a bar to unwind and retiring the night at a motel when it got too late and they didn't feel like driving anymore.

They did call home at the bunker and talked to both Gwen and Adam who were still doing okay but looking forward to them returning. They also chatted with Ava and Charlie who were not yet done with their case and couldn't wait for them to finish and get back to the bunker and Dean promised Ava to take her out for a nice meal just the two of them when she returns.

After spending the night at the motel, the brothers got up early had their breakfast at Mcdonald's and were on the road again until they finally arrived at the bunker late in the afternoon and were greeted by Gwen and Adam. Gwen greeted Sam with a long passionate kiss and after having some lunch, they headed upstairs to their bedroom to get some more alone time while Dean also rested in his room a bit then he and Adam just hung out for a while.

Dean was still missing Ava and of course Charlie but seeing Sam and Gwen together just made him long for Ava to get back. They still kept in contact her with them on the phone as the women gave them info on what was going on.

Finally, two days after Sam and Dean returned the bunker, Ava and Charlie called them that night to let them know the case was over and they were heading back home the next morning and Dean wasn't able to contain his excitement that his girlfriend was finally coming home safe to him. It took them the day after the next day for Ava and Charlie to finally return to the bunker and Dean and Ava both greeted each other with a long hung and passionate kiss while the others hugged Charlie.

Everybody was happy that the whole gang was together again back under the same roof that later that evening they all went out to eat. Dean and Ava had their private time together earlier that day in their bedroom for some long-waited hot and heavy lovemaking and when they retired for bed late that night, they engaged in some more. As they days went by, the gang enjoyed their time together sometimes with couples Dean and Ava and Sam and Gwen having their alone times just the two of them while Adam and Charlie hung out with each other sometimes gaming together. Other times Dean, Sam and Adam their brother moments hanging out with each other leaving the women to have their girl times together.

More than a couple of weeks passed, and everything was just normal with no cases with everybody being relieved that they could just relax or spend as much time together was possible. One Saturday afternoon, Sam and Gwen were just relaxing in their bedroom watching TV and getting bored flicking through the channels to one of the cable networks. Something all of them were able to do ever since everybody had a TV set in their bedrooms, plus Dean and Sam had bought cable boxes for every TV and had installed them themselves. They learned to do tis buy watching a tutorial on the YouTube a year ago. Now they have not only basic cable but the premiere channels like HBO.

On that particular day, Sam flicked to a Christian cable channel which he sometimes does as he is still a believer and even occasionally prays especially after his dream even if he isn't devout in his faith he still practices it. On this channel was a TV program that piqued his interest since it was talking about the Darkness when the whole world lost daylight, and the sky was dark for some time and the miracle of daylight returning.

Some of the people being interviewed on the show claimed they were possessed by angels who were gathered up on a mission to defeat the Darkness and bring daylight back as the Darkness was the enemy against God. Both Sam and Gwen couldn't help being glued to the show as especially since some of the people interviewed were familiar.

On the show was Hannah or Hannah's human vessel Emily Lovett who was being interviewed as she describes the events that happened to her from her husband and daughter's tragic deaths, losing her job, about to take her own life and the angel Hannah coming to her and taking over her body after she gave her permission and finally leaving her body after daylight returned as she didn't remember a lot during the time she was possessed. She also now declared herself a born-again Christian since and is in a better place.

Sam was so amazed at what he saw that he went to the door and called the others into his room who all stopped what they were doing and went inside curiously.

"Seriously Sammy, what's up is it another potential case?" Dean asked.

"Yeah, where's the fire?" asked Adam.

"You guys won't believe this but there are folks who were possessed by angels during the Darkness and even before that on TV on this show" Sam said.

"What, where?" asked Ava.

Then everybody watched the TV show and saw Emily, Hannah's human vessel continuing her testimony. Afterwards, it showed Michael, the archangel's former human vessel, a nice looking middle-aged Catholic priest on the show now giving his testimony as he describes himself as a unhappy man beginning to question his faith and god after some tragedies occurred and how it came about the archangel contacted him and convinced him to use his body during the Darkness as he saw it as a miracle and a sign from God and then how when the archangel finally left his body, he was catatonic and couldn't move or speak until God healed his body and even spoke to him and now he's his faith has been restored more than ever before.

Afterwards, they showed archangel's Raphael's human vessels, two of them, one of them during the Darkness and the other one before who had been in a catatonic state for a long time and how God healed and restored both of their bodies and now, they are also believers and have gone back to church. Other people also claimed to have been possessed by angels some of them a few years back during the fallen of the angels from the heaven when everybody thought it was meteorites falling down from the sky and some from the Darkness.

"Wow, this is heavy, I mean a group of former meatsuits for the folks upstairs coming together to tell their stories to get their fifteen minutes and now they are all holy churchgoers" Dean said.

"Come on Dean, the experience obviously changed them for the better and now they can give their testimonies of what they been through so others who went through the same thing can relate" Sam said.

"Yeah, I think it's kind of great in a way" Gwen said.

"I agree" Ava said.

"Wow, I guess I'm outvoted here" Dean said sarcastically.

"Hey, I'm with you on this, these people just want their fifteen minutes of fame on TV, so everybody knows who the great saintly angels chose them as their meatsuits" Adam said and Dean just smirked being relieved somebody was on his side.

"Personally, I think it's their choice to tell their stories, there is nothing wrong although I probably wouldn't do it" Charlie added.

Dean was about to say something else when Sam beat him to it.

"Hey look who that is" he cried out and they all looked at the TV and saw none other than Gabriel/The Trickster more actually his former human vessel now giving testimony introducing himself as Pastor Ambrose Lomax.

He had reportedly disappeared shortly after his church in Nashville, Tennessee burned down due to a power outage almost a decade ago and he had been missing since and then turned up shortly after the Darkness with little memory of where he had been all this time only that he gave in to the archangel Gabriel who had come one night.

"You got to be freaking kidding me, you mean The Trickster's meatsuit is a freaking pastor of all things, a pastor!" Dean cried out astounded at what he saw.

"Dean, why is that so hard to believe, Dean? I mean I guess anybody is capable of being the angels meatsuits why not a pastor, what did you exactly expect anyway?" Sam asked him.

"I don't know, I just never pictured the Trickster's vessel would be some church-going pastor. To me he had that sleazy car salesman look to him" Dean replied.

"Well, I guess looks can be deceiving" Sam told him.

"I guess" Dean replied back.

They continued to watch the program a little while longer but when they didn't recognize any of the other people giving their testimonies, they lost interest and left the room while Sam turned the channel instead choosing to watch something else.

The remainder of the month of June passed by as the whole gang just enjoyed time that they weren't hunting. Gwen still went to her job at the antique store and came back home to spend time with Sam or the other women for girl time. Adam went to his kickboxing class and his skills improved and he used the firearm range to improve his shooting skills or continued to practice extra fighting skills with Dean or Sam and even Charlie. As for Charlie, she went out of town for a while for a Larping event that month.

Dean, Sam and Ava enjoyed all the free time on their hands, with either Dean and Ava spending time with each other or Sam and Dean or sometimes Adam having their brotherly times together. Madame Bess even got to visit on a weekend, and they showed her around town and took her out to dinner. Castiel would drop by few times, and they all enjoyed it when he was around, but he still seemed a bit secretive of what he's been up to.

Finally, the month ended and soon it was July and Madame Bess had invited the whole gang to spend a week at her home for the 4th of July week as there was going to be events like a parade, party and then the fireworks on the special day and they all agreed. They drove up in Ava's van on Sunday, the day before Independence Day and arrived that evening in time for dinner. They had a nice dinner and afterwards hung out talking or watching a movie and by the time they retired for bed it was quite late almost midnight.

Sam and Gwen retired to Gwen's bedroom which was still set up as if she was still living there ready for her occasional visits. Dean and Ava took the first guest room while Charlie took the second and Adam volunteered to sleep on the living room couch, but Charlie insisted he could share the bed with her as it was a king-sized bed enough room for two people and there wasn't any real reason according to her why he shouldn't use it too.

"Come on Adam, we can be adults about this, I mean I thought about this, and I do have an open mind when it comes to these things and I'm not uncomfortable sharing the bed with you" she told him.

"Look, are you sure about this Charlie, if you're just saying this because you feel bad don't I have no problem taking the couch again and wouldn't want to put you in an awkward position" he told her.

"You won't, we're practically brother and sister, we're family and the fact that I'm into chicks, it's not like anything is going to happen" Charlie reassure him.

"Yeah, but what about…." Adam was about to say before Charlie cut him off.

"If you're worried about modesty, we can work around that, I mean we can just take turns, one of us can change our clothes in the bathroom while the other changes in the bedroom and one of us can knock at the door first and the other can let on us know if it's okay to come in" Charlie explained.

"Yeah, I guess that can work" Adam said.

"Of course it can, look I just don't feel right about you sleeping on the couch again and I admit I don't want sleep on the couch and there is no reason for neither of to sleep there when there is a nice bed big enough for both of us" Charlie told him.

Finally, Adam nodded his head having been convinced. "Okay, okay I give, you win, we'll share the bed" he told her.

Madame Bess didn't have a problem with it of course as she knew that Charlie was lesbian and understood her relationship with Adam. So, that night Adam changed in the upstairs bathroom that consisted of a pajama bottom and a T-shirt while Charlie changed in the bedroom into a long night shirt with a pajama bottom that didn't match and they both just hopped into the bed like nothing, turned out the lights and went to sleep. Meanwhile, Dean and Ava and Sam and Gwen couldn't resist some lovemaking before falling asleep.

The next morning, they all had their breakfast that Madame Bess made for them, and they all pitched in cleaning up afterwards and Gwen helped Madame Bess with the dishes. It was the 4th of July and they were all excited about heading to the parade that afternoon something Gwen and Madame Bess regularly did in the past although Madame Bess was feeling a bit too old to head out there and only went over the years because Gwen didn't like going to those places alone but now that the whole gang has come up, she figured they all go without her feeling out of place with the young folks.

However, the gang managed to convince her to come along as they felt guilty leaving her behind for such an event and felt she deserved to have a good time too and she finally relented. The parade was to start around 11:00 am and go on for most of the afternoon and will consists of music, phone both and some games and contests for kids. They left in Ava's van about 10:30am and headed to Luther Place, an area in the city where the parade will begin and go all they way to Langford Park.

Madame Bess had giving everybody each a small American flag to hold, she already had her own and Gwen's and had bought five more for the rest of them a couple days earlier. They all stood around the area near the sidewalk as the people in the parade will be strolling down the street. Soon at 11:00, the parade began, and the place was now crowded with people, young and old alike many with families of small kids and babies. They stood and watched as numerous people walked down the street from a person in a giant eagle costume, to people strolling down pulling lawn mowers, to girls' scouts and other kids on bikes, even cars that including the county sheriff and a World War ii veteran being driven around, park service truck with employees etc.

The street was very crowded, and they just watched on the sidewalk in amazement waving their flags and soon took out their phones to film or take photos of the sight. Dean and Sam couldn't help enjoy themselves even though this wasn't something they were used to seeing, they never ever went to a 4th of July parade in their lives and were glad this was their first. Time seemed to pass, and they were surprised that it was a little after 1:00pm already. They then decided to head for to the park to get lunch.

When they arrived there, the park was very crowded as there were many activities for kids, that included games, contests and pony rides. Of course, none of them were interested in the kid's stuff so they just bought some lunch that they were selling and sat down at one of the benches to eat and relax.

"Wow, it's been a day" Dean replied just wanting to start a conversation.

"Yeah, never been to a 4th of July parade before" Sam replied.

"How did you like it?" asked Gwen hoping he was impressed.

"I gotta say, it was something, I never thought I would enjoy myself at parade, thought it was for kids and all" Sam said.

"Yeah, same here but it was quite awesome, I mean did you see all those classic cars driving by damn that was so cool" Dean said.

"I too never been to a 4th of July parade and now feel like I missed out on a lot" said Ava.

"Yeah, same here" said Charlie.

"I always wanted my mom to take to one of the parades when I was a boy, but it never happened. Now, I'm thinking how I wished we had gone, it could have been quite a moment for the two of us to share" Adam said looking a bit sad thinking about his mother.

"Well, I'm glad all of us are right here enjoying the 4th of July together it's the best 4th of July ever for me" Gwen said and the others agreed.

After they all had their lunch, there wasn't much to do at the park since everything seemed to be for kids plus, they were a bit tired from watching the parade, so they all left the park for the van and head back to the house to get a bit of rest. Some of them retired their bedrooms while others stayed in the living room to watch some TV. The hours seemed to pass quickly and soon it was getting close to evening. They all planned to go out to dinner before heading for the CHS field in Lowertown to watch the Baseball game which had the local team the Saints and after the game, the fireworks would start around 9:30pm.

They all drove to the restaurant called Saint Dinette which was near the CHS field as Madame Bess gave Dean the directions who was driving the van.

The restaurant was still brand new having opened the year before and they all sat down and ordered their dinner most of them getting cheeseburgers and fries while Madame Bess ordered spaghetti with salad. As for drinks most of them accept Madame Bess and Gwen got beer while they ordered sprite soda. They ate their meal and talked mostly about the game and the fireworks as Gwen was telling Sam what to expect. After they all finished their meal, some went to the restroom first and then, they all headed to the CHS field for the game.

It was a first time for all of them to go inside the stadium including Madame Bess and Gwen who normally would just stand outside the building on the steps to watch the fireworks but knowing the guys are baseball fans and even Charlie and Ava were excited about going to the game they decided to go for them. They didn't have to pay to get inside but were able to get inside the building before it got to crowded and got okay seats.

"Wow, I have to admit, at my age and this is my first ever baseball game" Madame Bess said.

"Yeah, same here, not much of a baseball fan, I just hope I have a good time" Gwen said.

"Hey, trust us once you go to a baseball game, you're going to be hooked and want to see another one" Dean said.

"Yeah, Dean's right I guarantee" Sam said excitedly.

"If you guys say so then I believe you" said Gwen.

After sitting for what seemed a long while, soon the game started as the crowd watched the local team the Saints play. As the time passed on, Dean and Sam's predictions were right since everybody was enjoying the game including Madame Bess and Gwen and all of them were cheering the team on hollering. Once again time flew by, as the hours passed and everybody was so caught up into the game and having the game spirit that they didn't notice how dark it was now outside. Then the game was finally over and when it was around 9:30 it was finally time for the fireworks.

Soon the colorful fireworks flew into the air, and it was a glorious sight for everybody as they watched them go by. Some took out their phones and filmed the event or took photos. The fireworks seemed to go on forever but nobody cared as they enjoyed every moment of them. When it was finally over, the gang all headed back to the van and return to the house. It was quite late when they got back and everybody was pretty tired from the long day and all retired to bed. None of the couples even had sex that night as they were bit exhausted even for that but just decided to go to sleep.

The next morning, the gang all got up, washed up and went downstairs for breakfast where Madame Bess was already up fixing it. They had the typical breakfast, scrambled eggs with grits, and sausages with orange juice for some and coffee for others while talking about yesterday's event.

"I'm glad all you enjoyed the 4th of July up here" Madame Bess replied as she was nibbling on her food.

"Yeah, that was the best, a parade, watching a baseball game and fireworks afterwards, I mean what could anybody ask for" Dean said.

"We all enjoyed ourselves quite a lot ma'am wouldn't mind coming back up here for the next 4th of July next year" Sam told her.

"Well, I would enjoy having you all here, it is especially nice just to get to spend time with my granddaughter" Madame Bess said.

"Same goes for me too grandmother" said Gwen.

"And all of us" Sam added.

They all continued eating and when they were all nearly finished their breakfast, Madame Bess spoke up again. "As you all know, I will be working at the shop again and won't be done until this evening" she told them.

"Oh, grandmom, couldn't you wait another day?" Gwen asked but her grandmother shook her head.

"No, it was enough I closed the business yesterday for the 4th of July but now that it's over it's back to work as usual" she told her.

"Hey, we understand" Sam said and Gwen just nodded.

"Usually after Independence Day, business gets really busy, but I know you all will be here at least for a week, and I still want you guys to enjoy yourselves while you're all here. So, feel free to go out and explore the city and find some fun things to do, Gwen will be happy to show you around and tell you all about the places to go, think of her as your guide in a way" Madame Bess explained.

"Hey, don't worry Grandmom, I got it covered" said Gwen.

After they all finished their meals, Madame Bess took all the dishes and began to wash them while Gwen helped, and the others went into the living room to relax and watch some television although nothing special was on but the news. Over an hour later, Madame Bess prepared to leave for work and said goodbye to everyone before heading out the door to the car and drove off. The rest of the gang planned what to do that day and everybody was going to split up in pairs so the two couples can have some alone time together and by the afternoon they all left for their destinations in van.

First, they drop Adam and Charlie off at the video arcade that had plenty of games for even adults to enjoy and they had bus schedule that Gwen gave as she already gave them instructions on which bus to take to go where since they both planned on seeing a movie afterwards. Then they drove another area downtown and parked. Sam and Gwen planned on going to a coffee shop and Dean and Ava to sports bar with a pool table nearby. They did all their research to find cool places to go googled a map and directions on where to go plus Gwen was some help.

"Okay see lovebirds later" Dean said to Sam and Gwen as they were on the sidewalk.

"You too" said Sam and they said their goodbyes with Sam and Gwen taking off in another direction for the coffee shop which wasn't too far away while Dean and Ava went inside the bar as they were standing right near it.

While at the bar they enjoyed some beer while listening to good music being played and soon hit pool table and played a couple of games then they ordered some food to eat for lunch when they got hungry. After finishing their meal they played some more pool and then danced to some cool music being played not caring if anybody else was dancing too although they were two other couples dancing, then they sat down at the counter to a bit of the game. They wind up staying longer than expected as before they knew it, a little after 3:00 so they decided to finally head out and maybe take a stroll around the area for a while since Sam and Gwen were not back at the van yet.

As they were walking down the sidewalk, they noticed a commotion as when they saw a young male in a gray hoodie bump and into an elderly man knocking him down the ground. The male quickly apologized and helped the old man up and then Dean noticed something off. The male appeared to take something off the old man in what appeared to be a wallet and then put in his pocket without the old man noticing.

"Son of a bitch, he's pickpocketing from that old dude" Dean replied.

"What do we do, we can just call the police" Ava said.

"That will be too late, this punk will have been long gone by the time they arrive" Dean said.

"So do you want us to handle this ourselves, we're not cops" Ava reminded him.

"We don't gotta a choice, we are witnesses, we're involved already" said Dean and before Ava knew it, Dean started walking towards where they thief and the old man were as the guy was now walking away in their direction. Dean was charging at the guy as he tried to walk pass him and grabbed at him and turned to the old man who was walking down the street.

"Hey, stop, this punk stole your wallet, I saw it!" he yelled after him causing the old man to stop and turn around.

The thief just struggled as he attempted to pull away from Dean.

"Get off me dude!" he cried out but Dean had a tight hold of his arm and wouldn't let go.

"No, I saw you steal from his that old man now give him back his wallet" Dean told him firmly.

"You're crazy creepo, I didn't take anything" said the male as he continued to struggle.

"You certainly did, and I will take back that wallet" Dean said but as they struggled, the guy's hood fell off his head and Dean finally got a clearer look at the male. He was a teenager who didn't look like he was eighteen years old yet. He had dark hair and dark eyes and was close to Dean's height. However, the shocking thing about the teenager was he looked very familiar. In fact, this was someone he knew very well a long time ago and when Dean realized who it was the shock came over him.

"What the hell, Ben?" was all Dean could say.
