Videogames have been created and used in a relatively short time frame since technology began its explosive rise to true power during the late eighties and nighties while the concept of tabletop games have been around for a similar if not slightly longer length of time. According to a young man named Neo Rangel, videogames were one of the world's best inventions, specifically the RPG, MMO and Survival RPG games.

Neo made a solid living in his home in Gotham by being a popular content creator on Twitch and YouTube. It helped him take care of things despite the fact that his uncle more than helped him keep the house after his parents' tragic car accident a few years ago.

Although the wish was corny and childish, Neo wished that his life was like an RPG because anytime he played a game like Dark Souls, Skyrim, Elden Ring, or any other RPG. He could make himself into a hero that can save the day, instead of a social outcast. When he lost his parents, that was when he truly dived into the world of content creation and gaming for hours at a time as a distraction away from the horrible feelings of sadness and loss that plagued him for years.

However, Neo never thought that his wish would come true. But this morning as he woke up, he saw a videogame styled text screen appear before his eyes that made him yelp and fumble out of bed.

[Greetings Neo Rangel, you are the host to the 'Game System' which has permanently transformed your life into that of an RPG. This is your tutorial aka your instructions on how to use your newly acquired abilities.

First is that your health and wellness is displayed via a red HP bar with the numerical amount displayed. If your HP bar hits zero you will be knocked unconscious and become vulnerable to a lethal strike.

You can be killed by a hit that either does more than double your total amount of HP or if an enemy deals a critical strike to a vital area such as your heart, respiratory system, brain and so on.

Next is your MP which is a numerical representation of your available magical power aka your Mystic Particles which are used to perform feats of great magical power.

You'll learn more about magic as you update your codex on various magical studies.

Your core attributes are determined by your STR, DEX, VIT, INT, WIS, CHA and LUK aka your strength, dexterity, vitality, intelligence, wisdom, charisma and luck.

Your STR affects all aspects of physical strength as well as granting you 25 HP points for each attribute point invested in it.

Your DEX affects your speed, balance, reflexes and so on.

Your VIT determines your amount of HP by increasing your HP by 25 for each point invested in it. This stat also affects your stamina and grants you 25 MP for each point invested. A weak body can't handle magic after all.

Your INT determines all actions and abilities involving the mind and its problem-solving abilities. You gain 25 MP for each point invested in this stat.

Your WIS determines the level of wisdom you have as well as your energy regeneration speed.

Your CHA is a measure of your natural charisma and charm which helps you during various talking actions or actions that involve communicating with mundane or magical beings.

Lastly is your Luck which doesn't outright give any positive benefits; however, it affects every aspect of your life and how fate views you.

To enhance your stats, you are given AP aka Attribute Points each time you level up. You gain 10 AP each time.

You also have access to perks which require you to complete certain and specific actions. Perks can also be acquired when a skill, a core attribute or when your level reaches segments of twenty-five. Every twenty-five levels or stat gains will allow you to select a perk revolving around what skill or stat has reached the appropriate level.

Next are the hard and soft commands of the system. A hard command is a verbal action in which you say what you want the system to show you, while a soft command is a mental instruction. For example, if you wish to see your stats, you can either say 'Show Statistics' or think of the action and the action will be displayed.

You have access to a small pocket dimensional storage unit known as your Inventory. The Inventory is accessed whenever you store something away in a backpack or a lunchbox or what have you. This also affects skills like 'Pickpocketing' and it will allow you to instantly store a successfully stolen item in your Inventory.

You are still human, and you still require basic human needs like sleep, food, water, medical attention for certain injuries and so on.

Other instructions can be viewed via the game Codex, which is a library of any and all information you stumble upon or research.

Best of luck while you play the game. Sincerely the first gamer; Han Jee-Han.]

Neo looked on in total shock and confusion at the lengthy tutorial in front of him before he pulled his covers over his face and spoke.

"This is all just a fever dream or a lucid dream…Or my sleep paralysis demon mocking me." Neo said to himself before removing the covers before still seeing the game screen in front of him that he tried swiping at. The moment he hit it, he felt a physical weight behind the floating screen that stopped his hand, which hurt.

The hallucination hurt Neo, which told him that he was either going crazy, someone drugged him, he is in a coma while having the world's most intense fever dream, or that there was some small and unbelievable amount of truth involved in this bizarre image that floated above him before he noticed a small 'x' symbol there the upper right. Neo experimentally touched it and saw the screen vanish before his eyes.

Neo simply took a few deep breaths before he decided to move on and get ready for the day as he cleaned himself up in the bathroom before looking at himself in the mirror.

Dark skin, short black hair with brown eyes. Average height and build for a seventeen-year-old and dressed in Gotham Academy's white long sleeved dress shirt underneath a velvet vest, brown dress pants and shoes but the most alarming thing he saw was the information floating above his head within his reflection.

Neo Rangel, Level: 3

The Gamer/Professional Streamer

"Just ignore it." Neo said to himself before he gathered his school bag and supplies along with his phone, wallet and housekeys before he headed out and towards the bus stop where he waited for the bus to take him to Gotham's most prestigious high school.

The bus ride was trippy along with most of the day as Neo saw various names, titles and levels above everyone's heads. Just like in an MMORPG he saw information about other people as if it were nothing and it started to make Neo truly question his sanity. However, a few people specifically grabbed Neo's attention despite him never associating with them before.

Barbara Gordon, Lvl: 21

Batgirl/Genius

Timothy Hunter, Lvl: 19

The Merlin/Prince of the Faerie

[Side Quest Alert!

Name: Changing Fate

You have seen the hidden truth behind two of your fellow classmates and are now being given the chance to unlock more of your latent potential, but at the cost of only being able to go down one path at the current time.

Objective 1: Become friends with Barbara and convince her to let you help her in being a hero.

Objective 2: Become friends with Timothy and convince him to teach you some things about magic.

You can become friends with both, but for access to 'Main Quests' you can only go down one of the given paths available to you.

Rewards depend on the actions you take.

Do you accept this quest? Y/N?]

Neo once again felt himself on the verge of freaking out before some strange outside force had calmed him down and allowed him to think about the situation logically and frankly, neither option seemed realistic.

Life isn't a videogame or anime or something where a teen can live a secret life as a superhero or magic wizard or something. It doesn't make sense. But something in Neo's head was telling him to take the quest and after raising his textbook he carefully hid behind it and raised his finger to select the yes option which accepted the quest.

Neo couldn't help but groan in a whisper at how easily he had accepted a 'quest' from an imaginary videogame screen. He also decided that he might need to have a talk with the school guidance counselor or something, but at the very least this 'gamer' stuff had given him an excuse to try and make some new friends.

"Alright class, its time to break up into groups for the rest of the science lessons since you'll all be working together to complete a science project that is worth a good portion of your grade. So, break into groups of three and we'll begin." Mr. Cabell announced to the class before students started breaking into three person groups and Neo somehow worked up the courage to ask both Barbara and Timothy to team up with him.

By some other miracle, they both agreed and the three of them not only started working on the science report project, but they somehow became fast friends and Neo felt a warm feeling in his chest at that.

Normally people thought that he was weird or didn't want to interact with him at all. But his two new friends were nice and actually took an interest in speaking with him. Even when class came to an end the three of them exchanged numbers and decided to form their own 'click' so to speak since all three of them didn't fit in too well in the school's social circles.

"Are you two doing anything later?" Neo asked after the school day came to an end, which he was thankful for since he got annoyed at the game alerts telling him that he got INT and WIS stat gains from some of his classes.

"Nah, I've got to go home and study for a few quizzes. I'll catch you guys later." Barbara said with a smile before she started walking off campus instead of taking one of the buses.

"I'm heading home too. But you're welcome to hang out at my place. Maybe you can tell me more about 'videogames' and how they're played." Timothy replied making Neo chuckle since Timothy apparently never played a single videogame in his life. Which took Neo by surprise and soon enough the duo started walking through the streets of Gotham until they came up to Timothy's home in one of Gotham's nicer neighborhoods.

"I have to say that it is nice to see my little Tim making some friends." Timothy's mother said when they entered the house and Neo was taken back by the stunning woman. Not just because she was hot but also because of her name and title.

Titania, Lvl: ?

Mary Rosebud-Hunter/Queen of the Fair Lands

Titania is fair skinned with a model-like figure of large breasts, hips, her backside along with shoulder length curly brown hair and green eyes while being dressed in a simple yellow and sleeveless sundress.

"H-hi." Neo replied nervously.

"Mom. This is my friend Neo and he's helping me learn more about videogames." Timothy explained while Titania chuckled.

"Well, you boys have fun. I'll make some snacks for you." Titania replied before the two teens made their way into Timothy's room where Neo saw that Timothy had a decently powerful computer which helped him teach Timothy about games since he was able to install some after installing a Steam app.

Neo honestly forgot about the quest he accepted and simply smiled as he taught his friend about RPGs of various types and genres.

'Maybe hanging out with people isn't too bad.' Neo thought to himself while Titania looked through a crack in the door with a smile on her face before she brought in a tray of tiny sandwiches.
